5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
I bought this book for my daughter and she loves it. She now wants me to buy her the sequel. I'm going to buy it for her since she enjoyed the first book so much. I'm so happy that my daughter is enjoying to read and that she found a series that she really likes. I recommend this book highly for any parent to buy for their child.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Great Great
This book is so great! It is moving and so heart-warming of a unicorn having a secret friendship with Julie. Children of all ages will love this fun book with all of the great adventures. My daughter loves the part where Sparkles, the unicorn, brings Julie to the fairy land. This is a fantastic book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book

    Editorial Review

It's almost Christmas and it hasn't snowed yet. As the farmer naps onhis small farm, he dreams of being covered in a gentle blanket of new snow. Then, one by one, he dreams of each of his five animals (aptly named One, Two,Three, Four, and Five) being covered as well. When he awakens, he discovers thatreal snow--not dream snow--has fallen. And "Oh my! Oh my! I almost forgot," thefarmer shouts, and, bundling up, hurries out to his tree (named Tree) with a boxand a sack, looking remarkably familiar in his white beard and red suit. Afterdecorating Tree, the farmer shouts "Merry Christmas to all!" and pushes a buttonfor a surprise Yuletide jingle.

Young fans of Eric Carle's TheVery Quiet Cricket, TheVery Clumsy Click Beetle, and other multisensory books, will delight inpushing the same microchip button the farmer pushes to hear the tinkling, oddlyeerie holiday tune. In an even more unusual departure from standard picturebooks, Carle inserts a clear plastic sheet, covered with snowflakes and a whiteblanket, before each illustration of the dreaming farmer and his animals. Turnthe plastic page to discover what kind of critter lies beneath the snow. Carle'smagnificent collages, as always, are the heart and soul of his books. (Ages 3 to8) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not that great of a holiday book
I'm quite surprised after just receiving this book to find that the reviews of it are so great. I'm not sure why either. I'm guessing that it is because of the author's previously successful books. However, I found nothing interesting about Dream Snow, no imagination stirring events, nothing original, just sorta hum-drum.When he gets to the part about the snow covering the animals, there's five pages, count them, 5 that have one sentence which is as follows, numbered accordingly: "The snowflakes gently covered one with a white blanket, the snowflakes gently covered two with a white blanket," and on, and on it goes until it mentions all five animals. And the story proceeds from there and doesn't really go anywhere. The animals wake up to find the farmer running to decorate a tree. There's no imagination with this story at all. It doesn't even mention that the farmer is Santa, so you're left with this vague feeling of obscurity "what was that?"It just didn't make much sense to me, a writer, nor did it to my little one.

In addition, the song is really strange and quite frankly, my little one really didn't like the illustrations. I have the "Book Child" in my house - he has a zillion of them and loves books very much. He took one look at this and didn't even want me to read it. I'd go after another story to be quite honest. Something that stirs the excitement, joy and wonder of Christmas because this one certainly does none of that. It just doesn't go anywhere with the imagination, nor does it stir any excitement. If you are thinking about it, check it out of the library first and see if your little one enjoys it.There's just more to the Christmas season than obscurity.

4-0 out of 5 stars A genuine holiday classic
In a world filled with commercial holiday books based on popular kids' movies or cartoon characters, it's nice to have a simple story about kindness, hope and the magic of the season. I bought this book for my older son when he was 4. Now both my sons, 6 and 2 love to read it year-round.

    Little Red (Little Red)

    Editorial Review

When Little Red and her friends plan a "buzz of a day" picnicking in Bluebell Wood, none of them anticipates the dreadful noise that disrupts their placid gathering: "SPLAT SHWOOSH THWACK THUMP SQUEAK SPLOSH." Little Blue and the others are all for skedaddling, but brave Little Red insists: "If someone was in trouble, she and her friends should try to help." Young readers will be as anxious as the cute little protagonists, wondering what could possibly be making that big scary noise, and hoping it’s not as bad as it sounds. Luckily, the story behind the noise is not, in fact, as bad as it sounds, and the day ends as happily as it began. Sarah Ferguson (a.k.a. The Duchess of York) writes on the back cover, "When I was a little girl, I wanted to have a friend like Little Red. She’s sweet and brave and funny and kind." And so she is. Illustrator Sam Williams creates a friendly, old-fashioned backdrop to the Duchess's quaint story about courage and friendship. (Ages 3 to 6) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Garbage
This is just the worst of the worst.Stilted language and a saccharine (or should I say treacly?) sweet story.Little catch phrases that are supposed to be cute abound.Yuck.
Of course my 2 year old loves it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Well...the pictures are cute...
Currently, it seems all sort of celebrities think they can write a children's book, especially if a great illustrator is brought in to "pump up" the content. This story is very weak, although the pictures are cute.Story line: Little Red reaches out to a lilly pad to rescue a bunny. The book was given to my daughter; I would never have wasted my money on this.

(And why on earth is Sarah Ferguson still banking on her Duchess title-it's been how many years since she was divorced from her Prince??) Oh sorry, different rant.

2-0 out of 5 stars Charming pictures, disappointing story
This book looks really cute, especially the inside cover illustration of Little Red's "world".Unfortunately, once you get past the really charming illustrations, you find a story that is about as engaging as those mass-produced "character" oriented books where the author is basically "Disney".For a book of 40 pages with this many illustrations, remarakably little actually happens, and you could sum it up in once sentence: While on a picnic Red and friends hear a loud noise, investigate, discover creaures in need of assistance, render aid, and everyone shares the picnic. That's it.Really.Don't waste your time. ...
