5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books on incorporating your business
J.W. Dicks is a busisnessman with actual in the field experience and an attorney with the legal background.

While there are many books on how to incorporate, this one is written by a man who has/is inbusiness, thinks like a businessman but also understands and knows the legal jargon.

I highly recommend this book along with the Small Business Legal Kit also by J.W. Dicks and Inc. Yourself by Judith H. McQuown.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must reading for anyone in business
Whether you are contmplating starting your own business or are already in one and need good, accurate information on how to incorporate, this book is a must read for.You will find all of the information you need and the necessary forms. Also recommend The Small Business Legal Kit by J.W.Dicks which is 450 pages of with a disk and easy to fill in the blanks forms. You can become your own lawyer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Form a business or corporation in any state.
This an excellent book written by an attorney and business person. Ihave purchased other books on corporations but was vastly dissappointed. This one is excellent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Money Movement Strategy, use your head!
Keep in mind that this great book by Mr. Givens was written back in 1995. In reference to the money movement strategy, interest rates were a lot higher back then so information in the book may not necessarily apply to todays economy.

On the other hand, Givens Money Movement Strategy still works if you use your head and adjust it for the times. For example, I am using the money movement stategy now and back in January began moving out of stocks into bonds and cash. Why? Interest rates were rising. Mr. Givens mantra always was:

"When interest rates are going up, stocks go down. When interest rates are going down, stocks go up."

Use the money movement strategy but use your head. Also use Mr. Givens other mutual fund advice, use no load funds only and stay away from funds with a large cap. Lastly, ignore those commissioned sales people who want to sell you loaded mutual funds with expenses or individual stocks.

5-0 out of 5 stars Money Movement Strategy.........
I noticed a reviewer states that the money movement strategy is a "mixed bag", that if you used this strategy you would have missed the big stock market drop in 2000 but would have been in too early in 2001. Not so! Obviously this individual has a copy of one of Mr. Givens older books and not the one currently being offered by Amazon.

In fact, had this person followed the money movement strategy as advised by the late Mr. Givens he would have been out of stocks in 2000, in a money market fund and then in a bond mutual fund in 2001 and then gone into stocks in 2002. The money movement strategy was revised and is available in the newest version of More Wealth Without Risk, the one currently being offered at Amazon.com.

The late Mr. Givens also states in the book; "The money movement strategy is not a get rich quick scheme nor will it get you in the markets at the absolute bottom or out at the absolute top."

Using the money movement strategy, I missed out on a 50% loss on aggressive stocks, made a 50% gain on bonds and then got back in stocks to make a 30% gain since 2002. Note that I do not invest inindividual stocks or bonds, but as Mr. Givens advises, invest only in no load stock and bonds through mutual funds.

The gentlemen who wrote the review entitled "mixed bag" obviously not only has one of Mr. Givens older books, but oobviously never even tried to use the strategy. Instead, is trying to be analytical and using hindsight along with the older, outdated version of Mr. Givens money movement strategy.

Try it. It works. People have been averaging 15%-20% with the money movement strategy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Full Bag!
I am glad to see that Mr. Gievns outstanding books are still available in bookstores and here at Amazon.com. I saved a huge amount of money on taxes, auto, life insurance and more.

Regarding the MMS (Money Movement Strategy) used as advised by the late Mr. Givens would have had you out of the markets in 2000 and back in just before Pres. Bush's tax cuts stepped up the economy in 2002. Had you really followed the MMS, you would have been out of stocks, then into money market accounts, then into bonds and then back into stocks.

The MMS had me out of stocks in 1994 and 1987. The MMS has worked for me 3 out of three times. I'm not complaining! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good man, good info. Is really trying to help you.
Charles Givens died before his time.I appreciated his way of explaining things. Because he spoke with authority, he actually lived what he was talking about. And I believe he was genuinely attempting to help people see the way to get out of their mundane 9-5 debt slavery and see a brighter way. I know he got into trouble in later years, but from reading all his books and getting to know him from his writings, I believe he was a decent person who cared. I think everyone needs to know what is in this book. Granted some references are dated, but that is only because he is dead and can no longer update his work. Would highly recommend this book as one of many references to the road to independent wealth, many people just dream about it, the real deal busts his backside getting the info he needs to attain his goal. Because knowledge is indeed power.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this along with More Wealth Without Risk
This great book by the late, great Charles Givens along with More Wealth Without Risk is all the protecion you need to save yourself from dangerous advice disseminated from brokers, insurance salesmen, car dealers, financial advisors or planners.

Financial Self Defense is actually even more hard hitting that More Wealth Without Risk. One area that I saved was in buying cars. Following the advice in this book, I bought my dream car, sold my old car myself and pocketed nearly $10,000 in savings compared to what I would have spent had I followed conventional wisdom.

Great book Mr. "G". Rest in peace and thank you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great companion to More Wealth Without Risk
If you have already read More Wealth Without Risk, you probably think you have all of Mr. Givens best strategies. Not so. Financial Self Defense is even better and offers more strategies to reach your financial dreams.

In Financial Self Defense, Givens goes right after banks, brokers, auto salesmen and even the IRS, exposing the schemes and scams perpetrated by these people.

My son was going to buy a car. I loaned him Financial Self Defense and he saved over $6,000 with the advice. A $14 book saved $6,000. Now that's not bad!

Most of us are wasting an easy $1,000 per month in financial mistakes. Givens shows you how to plug up the dike and use that money to invest or improve your lifestyle.

More Wealth Without Risk is excellent and Financial Self Defense is in many ways even better. Read both and prosper. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars CAUTION
Before you read Wade Cook's book, be sure to read about his bankruptcy in 2004. Just enter his name on Google and you will see more news articles about it than you could find time to read!
It was publicized around here, but people in other parts of the country may not have heard about it.

2-0 out of 5 stars A seven year old tax book?
The tax laws have canged so much in the last few years.Be very careful.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book by a brilliant businessman
I found a wealth of information in this book. Some, needs to be updated but at least 98% of the book is current and accurate for 2004. I no longer brag about how much I am worth nor am I going to let anyone know where they can find out how much I am worth! Too many reptiles out there looking for easy money. Think I am kidding? Just move up in the financial world and you automatically become a target.

Brilliant Deduction shows you how to keep more of what you make and protect yourself from the predators of lawsuits and taxes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good advice, but nothing new
Decent advice, but if you've read these sort of books you will find nothing new.How does one objectively give financial advice whileshamelessly self-promoting a product for sale? There are better books out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but the authors want to sell you more than the book.
This book is full of valuable financial information, but then, so are many books. What sets this one apart from others is that, in addition to the standard good advice, it approaches money from the point of view of emotion.

The book starts out by having the reader examine how s/he feels when spending money.E.g., does it give one a bit of a thrill, or does it leave one feeling guilty? It then proceeds to a more traditional exposition of the lessons of finance, but the "emotional" approach permeates the book and allows one to see money issues in a new light.

The downside to this book, and the primary reason that I'm giving it four stars and not five, is that the authors use it, at times, as a catalog for their financial and estate-planning products. If you can ignore having overpriced "estate planning kits" marketed to you by those who are otherwise trying to help your finances, then it's worthwhile to read this book... even for those who have read more than their fair share of personal-finance books. It felt a little unseemly (to me anyway) to be reading how important it is not to spend money unnecessarily, and then in the next chapter read about how one needed their estate-planning kit that almost certainly provides, but at a much higher cost, no more information than the Dummies book on the same topic.

All things considered though--taken with a grain of salt--the book is very good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Stuff!! Dare You To Implement It And Stick To IT!
This book is great. I will read it over and over for the rest of my life. Its entertaining and yet dense enough to be used as reference material well after you finish it. Amazingly organized. The subject matter progresses just as it should and the real life examples really bring the lessons to life. Empower yourself and think about your future and that of your children. Plan and never be in want. Not a strain to implement. Good for any situation. Go!!! That you folks at Money Mastery!!! I am now aware. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!Must read for consultants/small business
This book is faithful to its title. It really gives you wonderful information on what to deduct and how to substantiate your deduction. It does not teach you how to file your return, but it teaches you how to structure your life and prepare your documentation during the year with an eye to the filling day and another to the audit day.
Please note, however, that this book is also faithful to its subtitle: it is only useful if you are able to start a small business, like consulting.
I am very satisfied and highly recommend this book to anyone interested in lowering his or her tax burden.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for Aircraft Owners!
Super tax information that helps my clients. If you're an aircraft owner, or considering ownership this book is a "must read!"

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative.
This book is easier to criticize than to laud. But that has more to do with the tax code itself than with the content of the book - which is exceptionally good. It contains very useful strategies for lowering taxes, some of which could translate into savings of hundreds or even thousands of dollars. As such, the book is an excellent investment. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Wow- I had NO idea!
I have seen this book recommended by others, so my roomate bought it and I read it (he's not as motivated I guess!).
Ididn't expect this book to be too interesting; I thought it would be totally referential. And after reading "Own your own Corporation" which was amazingly DULL, I expected this to be equally dull.
INC and GROW RICH is a MUCH better book to read for this topic, and told in plain, simple english. If you are building a business, at some point, you need to decide on a business structure. I firmy believe that INC and GROW RICH will help you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give yourself a raise--courtesy of the government!
I have to admit, I was not aware of the great opportunities available courtesy of the U.S. Government untill I read this great book by C.W.Allen et all. This book is outstanding and one of the best books that I have ever read on corporations.

I also recommend Inc. Yourself by Judith McQuown, Own Your Own Corporation via the Rich Dad Advisor series and Form Your Own Corporation and Launch a Business in Any State by J.W.Dicks.

Let the government give you a tax free raise and protect your business.

5-0 out of 5 stars An easy read. Easy to apply
As someone who is just starting out in business, I appreciated the easy to understand and easy to apply advice in this book. I also recommend The Rich Dad advisor series book by Garret Sutton as well as the exellent books by J.W.Dicks.

    Editorial Review

More than two decades ago, when former Wall Street portfolio analyst Judith H. McQuown first sat down to write the inaugural edition of Inc. Yourself, the incorporation of a small company was a fairly simple procedure undertaken by relatively few refugees from the then-burgeoning safe haven of big-time corporate America. But while the appeal and the underlying need for striking out on one's own have increased markedly in the interim, the continual passage of major tax-law changes has ensured that incorporation is no longer such an uncomplicated process. Accordingly, in this ninth edition of her bestselling primer, McQuown still outlines the core information necessary to turn any enterprise into a separate legal entity replete with all of the rights, privileges, and liabilities that such a move entails. But she also updates those suggestions for today's small businesses whenever appropriate, and bolsters them with important details on newly available options for pension plans, organizing the venture, and sheltering its income from taxation. --Howard Rothman ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great information on How To Incorporate
This is one of the top three books on how to start your business and incorporate with the other two being Loopholes of the Rich and Rich Dad's Advisors: Own Your Own Corporation.

Another would be How To Incorporate in Any State: Everything You Need To Form a Corporation by W. Dean Brown.

On S Corporations, the best book I have found is S-Corporations by Robert Cooke.

Everyone that I know who is successfu in business is recommending these books. And for good reason, they work and are writtenby people who have actually been in the trenches and speak from experience.

Beware of certain [some] self publishers who have never had any real business experience and merely plagerizing the better authors such as those mentioned above.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential first read in starting your corporation
Before starting my business, I consulted with several successful business people that I knew. Aside from getting some great advice, all recommended this book as a essential first read before starting my corporation.

Now that I have read it, I agree and wholeheartily recommend it to anyone who wants to start a business and their corporation, correctly.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good book to help you set up your corporation
I read the 8th edition of this book and got a great deal from it. Loaned it out, never got it back so back the newest edition. This is the book everyone else is copying. It's the best. Complete with forms and charts to help you get your corporation going.

I also recommend Form Your Own Corporation and Launch a Business in Any State and the Small Business Legal Kit, both by J.W. Dicks and Inc. and Grow Rich by C.W.Allen.

CAUTION: There are several books being put out by self publishers. These, some anyway are being promoted by paper tigers i.e. people who are writers only and have no real world experience. Much is outdated and the best of what they offer is in good quality books like this one and the others mentioned above.

Goff luck withyour business. ... Read more

How to Incorporate is an excellent book to show the average guy how to incorporate. It is an easy read and packed with good information.

Yourself by Judith McQuown and Incorporating Your Business for Dummies by The Company Corporation. For more information on S-Corporations, How To Form A S-Corporation by Robert Cooke is the best book that I have found and the one most recommended by successfult business people.

4-0 out of 5 stars Technical and Well Rounded
This book is basically a textbook, as it contains a lot of the details that are common to incorporation in any state. While the authors have stayed general enough to remain in an interstate appeal, they have still covered almost every legal aspect of incorporating, WITHOUT giving advice as to what you should do.Also covered are: sole proprietorships and limited liability coporations/partnerships and more.Good buy if you want a good cursory understanding of business vehicles.I recommend it.Please vote if this did help you.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to any entrepreneur?s library

I just picked up this text at our local BAMM store. Very interesting and great for new business people. My only complaint is that the book is a little old (1997) could be updated and the disk is not compatible for my computer.

If you are looking for a good bookshelf legal resource, this is it.
