4-0 out of 5 stars Good but uneven intermovie calendar
Calendrius reviewum.OK, so Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets came out in 2002, the calendar came out in 2003, so a 2004 calendar would logically have material from the first two movies, right?Right, which this calendar does. However, the months are clearly skewed towards the second movie, with only three months are dedicated to the Sorcerer's Stone. Why not an even six/six, that's what I'd like to know?

The picture selections are well chosen, though not as good as last year's calendar. The one's that raises bemused eyebrows is the large picture of the mountain troll with Harry's wand stuck up its right nostril.Nice to see that for 31 days, that. It's the quotes from the movies written on parchment-coloured rectangles that sink it.They work if the dialogue's toe-tinglingly triumphant or something apt that fits the scene. The potion book's explaining the Polyjuice Potion, shown aside Hermione's preparation of it, great.Oliver Wood's simple "Watch it Harry" in the picture where Harry's chased by the Rogue Bludger, okay. But Harry accusing Lucius Malfoy of precipitating the events of the story over a picture of Dobby being freed doesn't work.A simple "Dobby is free!" would've been better.Another observation:none of the instructors show up-it's mostly Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

And no, there isn't a special page with stickers like there were on the 2003 wall calendar. That'll probably come with the 2005 calendar for The Prisoner of Azkaban.Reviewus terminatus.

5-0 out of 5 stars This calendar ROCKS!
This is the best Harry Potter calendar I have yet, and that is saying something, because I have them all!I just love how they put the quotes on each page!It contains the coolest scenes and characters!I will probably buy two.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Harry Potter calendar composition to date!
(Warning:The following text may contain spoilers for those who have not read the first two Harry Potter books or viewed the movies.)This calendar is entitled Harry Potter 2004 Calendar:Heroic Moments. It includes collages of photographs from the movies Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Each month contains 2-3 brilliantly colored pictures from the movies, each collage representing an heroic moment. The themes included in this calendar are:Harry frees Dobby, Harry slays the Basilisk, Battling the mountain troll, Aragog, Down the trapdoor, The Polyjuice Potion, The search for the injured unicorn, The Whomping Willow, The Rogue Bludger, The dueling club, Hermione vs. Draco, and Harry defeats Tom Riddle. Each theme has a memorable caption from the movie associated with the heroic scene.

While this calendar lacks the centerfold of stickers that previous calendars have included, I felt this calendar was a must-have nonetheless for the Harry Potter fan.Its composition is ingenious, the colors are brilliant, and the photographs are the best quality to date. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. It's been yet another infuriating and boring summer with the despicable Dursleys, this time with minimal contact from our hero's non-Muggle friends from school. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort will strike. Returning to Hogwarts will be a relief... or will it?

The fifth book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series follows the darkest year yet for our young wizard, who finds himself knocked down a peg or three after the events of last year. Somehow, over the summer, gossip (usually traced back to the magic world's newspaper, the Daily Prophet) has turned Harry's tragic and heroic encounter with Voldemort at the Triwizard Tournament into an excuse to ridicule and discount the teen. Even Professor Dumbledore, headmaster of the school, has come under scrutiny by the Ministry of Magic, which refuses to officially acknowledge the terrifying truth that Voldemort is back. Enter a particularly loathsome new character: the toadlike and simpering ("hem, hem") Dolores Umbridge, senior undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, who takes over the vacant position of Defense Against Dark Arts teacher--and in no time manages to become the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts, as well. Life isn't getting any easier for Harry Potter. With an overwhelming course load as the fifth years prepare for their Ordinary Wizarding Levels examinations (O.W.Ls), devastating changes in the Gryffindor Quidditch team lineup, vivid dreams about long hallways and closed doors, and increasing pain in his lightning-shaped scar, Harry's resilience is sorely tested.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, more than any of the four previous novels in the series, is a coming-of-age story. Harry faces the thorny transition into adulthood, when adult heroes are revealed to be fallible, and matters that seemedblack-and-white suddenly come out in shades of gray. Gone is the wide-eyed innocent, the whiz kid of Sorcerer's Stone. Here we have an adolescent who's sometimes sullen, often confused (especially about girls), and always self-questioning. Confronting death again, as well as a startling prophecy, Harry ends his year at Hogwarts exhausted and pensive. Readers, on the other hand, will be energized as they enter yet again the long waiting period for the next title in the marvelous, magical series. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good
The 5th Harry Potter Book was good-yet did not measure up to the first four for these reasons:

    a. Harry was real whiny! Where did our adoriable little boy go?What made Harry so likeable in the first four books were his sweetness- and slight sarcasm. He was funny, natural, and seemed like the kid next door that you could talk to, yet might tease you lightly. Now Harry has really become a teenager (his years as 13 and 14 were just prelimainary), and a cranky, irrating, sharp, smart-mouthed one at that.I do understand what he was going through, and how it must have been twice as hard, as half the wizarding world think he's nuts, and he doesn't have any parents, yet I wish that he would cut out the drama- and now I really do understand what my parents must go through everyday. In this book Harry additude was just to-hellish.

b.The length. Now, I am no stranger to long books-I have read books longer than the Harry Potter books (people must remeber that they are double spaced, and in big font), yet the irrating thing about the lenght of this particualar book was that a lot of it were totally uneccesary-it seemed like JK didn't want to diassapoint fans with a short book, so added a lot of unneccesary points to this book.In fact, the first and the last couple chapters were all you needed to be perfectly set for the next book(which I am waiting for feverently!)

    Now for the GOOD POINTS!

a.It's a Harry Potter book! That in itself makes it great-one thing I like about these books is that you can always expect a book which is a joy to read over and over again.

b.The other characters remained the same.Even though JK gave Harry a makeover, she wisely refrained from changing the other characters personality(though to be fair, Harry is the youngest of Ron and Hermione, which accounts for a bit of maturity)

    c. suspense.JK captures the element of suspense perfectly-which helped save this book. You wanted to keep reading(even if the part you were on was a bit dull) to find out what would happen next.

    d. Humor.JK knows that what makes her books so enjoyable is that their the complete package-which includes humor. She nevers forgets to add in quirky, funny moments which make the book really enjoyable.

e.Ties up lose ends.Harry is growing up, and this book gently shows us that the time is drawing nearer for Harry to meet Voldermort.Ahh.. the plot has thicked!

Must read for everyone-just prepare to be slightly dissapointed if you are a devoted Harry Potter Fan!And you know what... I think I'm going to go and read it again!

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the same as the other four...
Note that this book is very good, and had it not been part of a series, it would have easily achieved the precious five stars. It is part of a series, though, and so it only got four...

Before dedicated Harry Potter fanatics go bananas on me, hear me out. The first four books are astounding, and so is the fifth. So why the four stars? The fifth is just so different. The fifth seems as if it was written by a new author. Sometimes I wondered if the beloved children's series was still for children. The Order of the Phoenix is a darker tale. The language is sooo different. Harry's way, way, way too different: it's not the standard jump between 14 and 15, or the standard jump between losing someone he loves, or knowing the person who wants to kill you is on your trail and no one gives a hoot. He's just not the same, selfless Harry.

I give one reason for this. The story flows better for a movie. There's a little less magic, so to speak, take that both literally and not literally. More conflict, less of the issues that were left out in the movies. (Which are a complete injustice, by the way.) The fifth book, simply put, doesn't have the same charm as the other four. I hope to see it back in the next book. (By the way, even the, mildest Harry Potter fan should get this book. It is impossible to put down, and you don't even notice how different it is until you finish it.)

5-0 out of 5 stars BRILLIANT!!!!!
i absolutely loved this book, and i dont understand why many reviews complained about the length of it, i actaully enjoyed reading it, and when i was finished with it i read it again, and again, and i couldnt get enough of it, i was dying to know what happens next, and im still dying to know what happens next that i cant wait for the sixth book to be released. i kept reading over the fifth book hoping to find clues as to what happens in the sixth book. i think Rowling is such an amazing and talented writer and she knows exactly how to keep her fans in suspense, and i know that im probably going to be shocked and surprised when i read the sixth book, coz thats what Rowling does, she keeps you in suspense for a long time, and then surprises you in her next book with the events of the story. For example in the fifth book, i was shocked when Sirius died and was very upset for the longest time that he was dead, although i have a feeling he will somehow return or maybe just appear in the next books, i was also surprised at how bad things turned out between Cho and Harry, and it just annoyed me when noone would believe Harry that Lord Voldemort was back. thats why i love reading these books, coz Rowling puts you in the mood of reading them and she knows exactly how to make you feel with every character...i hope the sixth book is as awesome as i expect it to be! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars simply the best...
cant help but to give two thumbs up...it's nice to read a story about a mother's love, great friendship, story with atwist and humor and most especially with a plot and setting that definitely would take your imaginations to the highest level in one package...so hold on to your seats and be ready for the stories that this extraordinaire would leave you spellbound!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars What can I say?
It's Harry Potter, what can I say? It's the series that got kids reading again.Everyone knows the plot.A boy wizard named Harry grew up with his cruel muggle (non-magic) aunt and uncle after his parents were killed in a car crash. At the age of 11 he's informed that he's a wizard, and that an evil wizard named Lord Voldemort murdered his parents and very nearly killed him.His aunt and uncle dissaproved of the world of magic and tried to keep everything a secret from Harry. He's taken away to live at a castle called Hogwarts, a school for young witches and wizards where he befriends the studious, proper Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasly, a poor boy who lives in the shadow of his brothers Charlie, Percy, Bill, and Fred and George. In book 1, Harry arrives at Hogwarts and finds that someone there is secretly trying to destroy him and is hiding a VERY big secret from the rest of the school.

In book 2, an unknown assailant is attacking students and everyone thinks Harry's doing it.We learn that no less than THREE characters are not what they seem.We are also introduced to Ron's younger sister Ginny, who has a crush on Harry.

In book 3, a murderous madman is on the loose and seems to be coming after Harry. But who, exactly is he?And the very LAST character you'd ever suspect of being evil reveals his true self.

In book 4, Harry is enrolled in the Triwizard Tournament, where three different magical schools select students to compete in daring, dangerous tests of school.Harry also attends the Quidditch world cup with the Weasleys and has a frightening run in with Voldemort and his servant in a graveyard. One character is tragically killed (I actually cried) at Voldemort's hand.

Book 4 is probably my favorite, along with 1, but there's really no such thing as a bad Harry Potter book. The movies are fantastic as well, and the sixth book is due out in a few months.

5-0 out of 5 stars works of art
These books are the best I've ever read.I'm 25 years old and I find myself anxiously awaiting the next book in the series. After each book you really feel as though you've spent a school year with these characters. They are a must read for any fantasy fan.Surely these books will go down in history as classic works of great fiction. The author truly understands how to develop characters, you will find yourself genuinely caring about what happens to them.Congratulations to the author for creating a series that has been, and I'm sure will continue to be enjoyed by millions around the world. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Very dissapointing...
The Ultimate Unofficial guide for the first four books was really wonderful and I was expecting the same for the guide to the 5th book. But unfortunately I was quite wrong in my hopes that it would be good. Most of the hints and clues given requires us to do our research to what things mean using other books and references. This book is in a different format than the first as well, it doesn't have little sections reviewing what just happened in the book, and it jumps ahead pointing out things that happen 20 chapters down the road... All of the hints and clues are just very vague, leaving the reader needing to buy the all of the books that are listed as references or be left in the dark.

1-0 out of 5 stars I FEEL DUPED...
I am a 29 year old mother who has loved Harry Potter for many years.I was excited to find the first book (Mysteries of Harry Potter 1-4)and I loved it.I was a little unnerved by some of the predictions they made, but still thought-provoking...

So when I bought this book, I didn't read the title well enough and was surprised it was a hints-only book.Putting that aside, I decided to give my HP Sleuth skills a shot.I was sorely disappointed that their recommended reading list was pretty much required (not recommended) if you were to understand at all their hints.I have 3 small boys and have no time to read 80 books and poems before I even attempted to read the hints-only book.I have a Bachelor's degree in education and I still had a hard time following their running-bits, theories, and trying to decipher the character's names and such.I wanted a book that would do the really difficult, time-consuming work for me so I could spend my time making connections of my own based on really well though-out hints. This book doesn't do that for you.It was written in less than 3 months and it is obvious.THIS BOOK IS AN AUTHOR'S VERY ROUGH DRAFT THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN PUBLISHED.I wish I could return the book and get my money back.

A waste of time, money, and energy.I have yet to see the completed version she promised everybody in 2003 to be done in a year and it is now 1/4 of the way into 2005.I would have been much more content to have sat and waited for her to complete an in-depth analysis of book 5 rather than have to pay money twice.I feel duped - and I was.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, But Mostly a Tease for an Upcoming Book
While some of the "hints" are quite interesting, you shouldn't buy this book if you are looking for the conclusions made in The Plot Thickens... Harry Potter Investigated by Fans for Fans. The first 30 pages are a repetative explanation of the fact that this book is hints only. You are told several times how the next book will give possible explanations of the hints given in this one. While the "hints" given are interesting, those Griffindors of us are too busy to go through the multitudes of books listed as possible help in deciphering the "hints." I'll just have to wait for the next book to come out to see what conclusions can made from the hints in this one. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

First sequels are the true test of an enduring movie franchise, andHarry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets passes with flying colors.Expanding upon the lavish sets, special effects, and grand adventure of HarryPotter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Harry's second year at Hogwarts School ofWitchcraft and Wizardry involves a darker, more malevolent tale (parents withyounger children beware), beginning with the petrified bodies of severalHogwarts students and magical clues leading Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron(Rupert Grint), and Hermione (Emma Watson) to a 50-year-old mystery in themonster-laden Chamber of Secrets. House elves, squealing mandrakes, giantspiders, and venomous serpents populate this loyal adaptation (by Sorcerer'sStone director Chris Columbus and screenwriter Steve Kloves), and KennethBranagh delightfully tops the supreme supporting cast as the vaingloriouscharlatan Gilderoy Lockhart (be sure to view past the credits for a visualpunchline at Lockhart's expense). At 161 minutes, the film suffers from lack ofdepth and uneven pacing, and John Williams' score mostly reprises establishedthemes. The young, fast-growing cast offers ample compensation, however, as doesthe late Richard Harris in his final screen appearance as Professor AlbusDumbledore. Brimming with cleverness, wonderment, and big-budget splendor,Chamber honors the legacy of J.K. Rowling's novels. --Jeff Shannon ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More action-packed than the first
So far, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is my least favorite book (I still think it's a great book though!), but the movie was more well-done than the Sorceror's Stone movie. We once again return to Hogwarts and the characters we were introduced to in the first movie, but this time, Harry (with the help of his friends Ron and Hermione) must solve the mystery of why students are turning up petrified. There is another Quidditch match (with a new Slytherin seeker) and many action-oriented scenes, complete with ravenous spiders and a terrifying snake (also known as a basilisk). The children's acting, while improved from the first, still needs some work, particularly from Dan Radcliffe (who plays Harry Potter).
Overall, I really enjoy this movie, though it still seems a little too sugar-coated for me.However, as the books keep getting darker, so too will the movies (as demonstrated by Prisoner of Azkaban).

4-0 out of 5 stars Columbus Does itAgain!
After the great success of "The Sorcerer's Stone" I was greatly looking foward to seeing "Chamber of Secrets." Chris Columbus once again captured the magical world of Harry Potter. The amazing settings, te characters, and the new creatures was all amazing. He recreated the most amazing scenes from the book perfectly.
Columbus is a great director and he should have directed the thrid movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!
The film continues to shed light on (the very well known by now) Harry Potter, as he attends his second year at Hogwarts. His powers are growing and so is the mystery surrounding his true purpose in life...
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a highly entertaining, action-packed adventure with strong elements of fantasy, not to mention some very witty humor.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Tom Felton, Alan Rickman, and the rest of the cast have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are exceptional to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)! Very well written and very well presented, the movie is without a doubt one that can be watched over and over again.
The concept, the setting, the special effects, and the music, are all EXCELLENT!Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is guaranteed to provide for an evening's entertainment. In addition, it is one of those films that gets you and keeps you thinking long after it's over.In short, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is a movie definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection!

    Editorial Review

Here's an event movie that holds up to being an event. This filmed version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, adapted from the wildly popular book by J.K. Rowling, stunningly brings to life Harry Potter's world of Hogwarts, the school for young witches and wizards. The greatest strength of the film comes from its faithfulness to the novel, and this new cinematic world is filled with all the details of Rowling's imagination, thanks to exuberant sets, elaborate costumes, clever makeup and visual effects, and a crème de la crème cast, including Maggie Smith, Richard Harris, Alan Rickman, and more. Especially fine is the interplay between Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and his schoolmates Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermione (Emma Watson), as well as his protector, the looming Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane). The second-half adventure--involving the titular sorcerer's stone--doesn't translate perfectly from page to screen, ultimately because of the film's fidelity to the novel; this is a case of making a movie for the book's fans, as opposed to a transcending film. Writer Steve Kloves and director Chris Columbus keep the spooks in check, making this a true family film, and with its resourceful hero wide-eyed and ready, one can't wait for Harry's return. 5-0 out of 5 stars Your a great wizard Harry friendship and bravery
This movie was so much better than I possibly could have imagined it. I was not a new-comer to the on-going saga of Harry Potter. I had started reading the books in third grade and the the first movie of the seven part tale came magically to life. This movie exceeded all my expectations and if possible more. I'm in my 8th grade year and I have seen this movie countless times. It follows the story in one of the best book to screen adaptations I have ever seen. Hogwarts catsle is amazing. The Qudditch scenes are superb and the cast is perfect.
The performances of the child actors are great. The adult actors work the magic well and bring their characters to life.

Daniel Radcliffe is THE Harry Potter. He not only looks the part but does a stunning job of bringing the main character to life. He is simply irriplacible.
Rupert Grint is perfect for the part of Ron Weasley, Harry's best friend. His sarcastic lines and facail expressions are down right Ron.
Emma Watson as the know-it-all Hermione Granger is straight on. She plays Hermione to the right amount of annoyance to loyalty to the character of the book.
Tom Felton as the sly, cunning, and evil Draco Malfoy is perfection. He brings his character to life on the big screen.
All these young actors do amazing jobs of the difficulty of bringing Harry's world to life. The DVD is loaded with extra features. If you have not seen this splendid movie you have strongly been missing out on the magical phonomen of Harry's world. See you on platform 9 3/4!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Viaje mágico del papel al celuloide

4-0 out of 5 stars SIMPLY MAGICAL
I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan. I love the books and when i first heard a movie was being made I was very excited. The movie was just as I hoped it would be. It had all the elements from the orginal book. Chris Columbus was able to catch the magical world of Hogwarts the way J.K. Rowling created it. He also was able to portray the friendship of Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Chris Columbus is an excelletent director that can bring to life a world of wizards, wands, brooms, and most of all magic. ... Read more

    Harry Potter Wizard Chess

    Editorial Review

If Harry's enough of a wizard to hook millions of kids on reading, maybe he's enough of a wizard to make them crazy about chess too. This Potterized set is very nearly very nice. Although the game pieces are plastic, they have interesting (if not very Hogwarts-specific) designs with good detail, and they're a decent size--knights and bishops are 4 inches high. However, too many corners are cut. Despite a disclaimer that colors and decorations may vary, the simple truth is that the pieces in the box are either plain-dark gray or slightly speckled light gray. Unlike the ones on the box photograph, they look like pieces waiting to be painted. (Which would be a decent project, perhaps, but buyers ought to know that's what they'll get.) Also, the fold-out board is plain white and has to be glued to the included paper chess board, and no rules are included. --Richard Farr ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not real happy with this.....
O.K. it's chess - The pieces should have been molded of a heavier plastic, with a base on them - they are hollow. The box is completely cheesy, Really cheap and flimsy - It should have a heavier stock cardboard with a molded insert at the very least to store the game. The board is also a bit too small for the size of the pieces.

I like the look of the pieces, but they should be heavier. This game should have been designed to be sold as a real keeper - it was sold like a destined-for-the-trash toy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!
I bought this last year as a Christmas gift for my boyfriends sons and they love it.They have learned to play chess really well and the pieces are durable they have to be to have lasted this long.

4-0 out of 5 stars But Look at the Price
From what I've read of the existing reviews, it might be a good idea to IMPROVE the design of these inexpensive chess pieces. When I get my set I will probably toss the accompanying board and buy a bigger better one. I'll probably roughen the shiny plastic surfaces of the pieces with maybe a wire brush to give them sort of an antique feel. Then I'll fill the pieces with rock gravel buck shor or fishing sinkers and plaster of paris and glue thick felt on the bottoms. On a classy roomy board the set should be hefty and handsome. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Therapeutic Tool--Believe It or Not!!!
I am a child psychologist AND a Harry Potter Nut.I bought this game because I love Harry Potter and I thought that since some of the children I work with like Harry Potter too that it'd be a cool game to use for play therapy.Little did I know that every child on my caselod would want to play this game every session over the past year or so that I have had this game.Even some of my adult clients want to play this game!!Believe it or Not!Not only has this set of cards held up to constant use but it continues to remain interesting to all my clients. It has been especially useful as an icebreaker with new clients--you know, if the therapist is interested in something that you as a little kid is interested in, then the therapist must not be so scary after all!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun variation of Uno...
If you love Harry Potter this is a must for any fan.It is great for Uno fans also.I have a lot more fun playing games with characters that I like. And this is one of those games. It is fun for everyone and all my friends and I have a blast still to this day playing with the Harry Potter ones. And we are all in our Twenties.Harry Potter Uno also has some twists and variations to the game that may take some time getting used to but you can always opt out and play the way many of us grew up playing.

like there is no difference between normal uno and harry potter uno. they are both pretty boring too. it is very durable though i threw them in a lake and nothing happened to them. Editorial Review

Harry is getting himself into a sticky situation in the Chamber series of action figures. Dressed in a red sweater over a blue shirt, blue pants, and tennis shoes, the young wizard looks like an average boy. Put on the black robe he wore into the Forbidden Forest (so it's now covered in cobwebs) and place the wand in one of his hands, and he looks more like the second-year student we all know and love. Included with the figure are a black cauldron and a container of colored slime. The slime can be used to fill the cauldron, to pour over the figure, or simply to drip back and forth between your hands. Harry has enough points of articulation to make play fun and he's able to stand solidly on his own. --Pam Lauer ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Why this figure is so Wonderful
This is a review from a huge fan. THis figure is great. But in order to make him stand you must force him to stand. The wand gets lost easily so keep it in a safe place. And the slime dissapears after playing with it for a long time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Harry Potter and the Chamber of Slime
I really enjoyed the Harry Potter Slime Chamber figure it was quite a good figure. Harry comes with a wand and a black cauldron with a plastic lid and a rubber bottom. The slime is blue and is really well slimey!but you have to be careful and close the lid all the way or the slime will dry out. Harrys robes are removeable except for the sleves they stay on. Harry has bendable knees and moveable legs and arms his elbows are not bendable. His wand will stay in his hand if you tuck it into the red sleve of his unbent arm. This is a great toy I recomend it to all Harry Potter fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Fun for Harry Potter Fans!!!
This toy is great! Harry is durable, but the slime isn't. To make the slime last for awhile you need to put it in the refrigerator when you're finished playing with it. The cob-webs on the robe give Harry a new look! HAVE FUN!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One great game
This is the best of the 4 Harry Potter games. The graphics are good, the music is good, and the gameplay is great. The spells you learn are really creative. This is the hardest Harry Potter game I've played. However, you have to restart the game to acsoss the Main Menu.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great game for all ages!
Harry Potter and the Chamber Of secrets is a very fun and interesting video game. You start out having to save Ron from the Whomping Willow. On the Whomping Willow there will be a sign that means you may cast Flipendo on it and save Ron. When you arrive at Hogwarts, you're first day you will have a lesson with Proffesor Lockhart on the Third Level. You will have to hit an arrow key on the keyboard as a wand makes its way around it. This is called Rictusempra. It stuns many unusual creatures. It is useful in this game, though. You will then go to the Rictusempra Challenge. When you arrive in a room that has three boxes where you can cast Flipendo on it, look at the doors. On each floor level there will be a picture of Proffesor Lockhart. Cast Flipendo on the blocks until you have the three bottom level doors unlocked. Then unulock the left door and go into it up into the next level and so on. Then when you arrive in the last room You have to hit the creatures into the pit where they belong. Then go up to get the Completion Star, and your time will become your new personal record. What I like to do after I complete the Rictusempra Challenge is go to the Dueling Club and duel other members. After you beat levels, the courts change. Then finish all of the other challenges. When you arrive at the Chamber Of Secrets, I have barely any advice. The only advice I have is that when fighting the Basilisk in the second round, only hit him when his mouth is open. Before you fight the Basilisk, you must gain a lot of health. After you defeat Tom Riddle and the Basilisk, you end up in Dumbledore's office. Go up to the top of his office and look for a Wizard card. Then, when you are finished, do not i mean DO NOT go to the feast. First, you must make sure you have every Silver Wizard card to advance to the Gold Wizard card Challenge. If you do not have every Silver Wizard card, I would duel people and buy cards from sellers. That is all the advice I have. And I recommend to purchase Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. ... Read more

    Editorial Review

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is the perfect game forPotter fans who've read the books, seen the movie, and still want more of J.K.Rowling's amazing world. As would-be wizard Harry Potter, you can run amuck in avirtual Hogwarts, learn to cast spells, play Quidditch, eat chocolate frogs, talk with teachers and classmates, and, of course, try to defeatYou-Know-Who.

This is one of those rare games that both very young kids and their parents willbe able to enjoy. You don't need the hair-trigger reflexes of a 13-year-oldNintendo ninja to explore the complex and mysterious world of Hogwarts School ofWitchcraft and Wizardry. In fact, exploring the school is half the fun. Thereare secret passages, shifting staircases, and dangerous shrubbery wherever youlook. The ultimate battle at the end is suitably challenging, but overall, thegame is fairly forgiving. And you don't have to discover every single nook andcranny in order to pass to the next level.

Interacting with one's fellow students is also fun, and a real treat for seriousPotter fans. As in the books, some schoolmates are helpful, some are rude, andsome are simply awestruck when they meet you, the famous Harry Potter. Nearlyall the characters from the book can be found in the game, including Potter palsHermione Granger and Ron Weasley. Some characters are even more fully realizedthan they were in the movie: Fred and George Weasley, for instance, are alwayspopping up in unexpected places via elaborate secret doors. Thanks to excellentvoice work and diligent artistry from the game developers, the characters in thegame look and sound like the characters from the film.

It's hard not to lose yourself in the lush graphics and delightfulconversations, but as Professor McGonagall might say, Harry is at Hogwarts tolearn, not to socialize! The way you learn and perform spells is clever: youmust trace a specific onscreen pattern with the mouse. Accuracy and speed inyour lessons wins house points for Gryffindor. Aside from your schoolwork, youmust win Quidditch matches, solve mysteries, and eventually confrontYou-Know-Who.

The game is charming, but it is unfortunately obvious that a few corners werecut. For instance, sometimes solid walls can go semitransparent from certainangles, and the edges of the oval-shaped Quidditch Pitch look blocky andamateurish. The game also has a few bugs here and there. And finally, disappointingly, the pictures don't move. Still, the fun of this game is not inthe playing of the game itself. The main fun lies in progressing through andinteracting with J.K. Rowling's unforgettable universe. On that point, the gameis a huge success. --Eric Fredrickson

    Pros:

    • Talking with the characters from the book/movie
    • Sneaking around Hogwarts under the Invisibility Cloak
    • Quidditch
    • Easy navigation
    Cons:
    • Obvious that a few corners were cut in making the game
    • Relatively primitive 3-D graphics
    • Hogwarts pictures don't move

1-0 out of 5 stars wow...
The idea that anyone reading this doesn't know the endings of all the books so far is ridiculous.Who would read the Harry Potter books for the first time while stopping every other paragraph to read what "Galadriel Waters" has to say about it?That's right, no one.People who buy this book are fans suffering from withdrawl and looking for something to read while waiting for the next book.Well I should have saved my money and stuck with fan fiction.

Speaking of which, how on earth did this book get published while volumes of infinitely more intelligent speculation/fanfic can be found by simply looking on the web?(Not that I can talk, since I bought this.HP withdrawl makes you do the crazy.)Speculation, I might add, that they produce for their own and other fans' enjoyment, not to make money off Jo Rowling's creativity.

To get into the actual content of the book, I have the same complaints as pretty much everyone who gave this a negetive review.Half of it is taken up with plot regurgitation, which for reasons I stated before is completely unnecessary. The smilies, stupid comments, and repetitiveness of phrases like "the HP sleuthoscope is..." are obnoxious. She analyzes the most irrelevent details while completely missing everything important. And she's "fairly sure" of about everything she says. No, "we" are fairly sure, whoever "we" is.Was this written by more than one person, or could she actually be implying that by the time we read this, we'll have no choice but to agree with her brilliant theories?

Whatever the case, this is pretty darn big headed of her.Theorizing is good fun, but everyone I've read online who've come up with their own ideas knows that it's all to be taken with a grain of salt.No one is "fairly sure" of what's going to happen except JK Rowling.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kinda Sorta Iffy.
Honestly, I'm not really sure how to rate this book.It has undoubtedly enlightened me to a few of the secrets and hidden meanings in J.K. Rowling's brilliant and cleverly weaved tale, but the author(s) analyze nearly every paragraph in the books!

According to this book, every word has a hidden meaning.I do not deny that MOST words have hidden meanings or alternate meanings, but to say that so many of them is slightly ridiculous.Though J.K. Rowling is a very brilliant woman, indeed, no one is clever enough to find hidden meanings in everything.

Though I enjoy the lighter tone the author(s) use throughout the book, it seems very unprofessional at times, and the excessive use of "smileys" is a little annoying. The "running bits" aren't always running bits, in my opinion. For example, in the analysis of "Chamber of Secrets," it is presented that every time a character's eyes are described, it is a "running bit" because of the Basilisk's eyes being fatal. This *could* be a clue to the plot, but in all reality, is she supposed to sacrifice her description of characters in order to NOT make it a plotline clue?Maybe the "eyes" in the book were merely there for descriptive purposes.

The Ultimate Unofficial Guide is, of course, a very entertaining read if you can get past the basic plot summaries and the use of smiley faces, but I certainly wouldn't call it essential or true to the series.A lot of the statements made are merely opinions that can be found just as easily on a Web site. For hardcore "Harry" fans, I would suggest reading this, but only if you're looking for a filler while you wait for J.K. Rowling's next masterpiece.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting book
That guide is interesting that helps to remind me of those books I read. I went like, "Oh, yeah." "I remember that." "Ha, ha, ha, ha...." etc... That is really nice book.

One small problem is... that the kind they published them with ink (for texts) that can be blur by water... when I was reading and then water running in kitchen sink... very few little drops from water got on my book and then I noticed ink (text) start to run. I was like, "Oh, my god!" I need to tell the publication that they need to solve that one. Made me feel scare if I accident drop the book in water and then lose it. That is bad choice of ink for this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comedy for a Cause
I bought the set from Amazon to complete my Potter Collection.I was very amused by the witty comments of the trio and the random notes scattered through the books.Living in England I've learned a great deal about the U.K. charity Comic Relief. For a small amount of money you're supporting a great cause.I particularly enjoy having a small bestiary (Fantastic Beasts and where to find them.)This small book will make more sense of the 3rd year Defense against the dark arts final or the various beasts involved in the Tri-wizard tournament in year 4.I totally recommend this set and have bought one for myself, my sister, and my grandmother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Yes, these books DO seem like you're actually reading schoolbooks.. but hey, isn't that what was intended?

Somebody said that they were just to make money.
I'm not sure what it was like in America, but in the UK, the books were sold for 'Comic Relief', a British charity. Not sure if they're still sold for charity in the UK now though. So yes, they were made just to make money, but for a good reason.

I liked the little sidenotes by Harry and Ron in 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them'.They were REALLY in character. Hermione also has about two notes, and, just like Hermione, she's moaning about how Ron should have bought a new book instead of dungbombs, then he wouldn't have to share Harry's book. Priceless!

'Qudditch Through The Ages' is an interesting read on Qudditch. While not having the notes of 'Fantastic Beasts', it has a Library List on the front page, with some of the names being recognisable. :D

I'd reccommend both of these books for big fans of Harry Potter!

Harry Potter aficionados: remember when Buckbeak, Hagrid's petHippogriff, was put on trial by the Committee for the Disposal of DangerousCreatures? This crazy idea was not invented by Harry Potter's creator, J.K.Rowling. In fact, from medieval times all the way up to the 19th century, animals and even insects were often charged with crimes, arrested, imprisoned, tried, convicted, and sometimes executed. Harry Potter's fantastic world ofmagic has its roots in true history, mythology, and folklore; father-daughterteam Allan Zola Kronzek and Elizabeth Kronzek have now made this wealth ofastonishing information available to Muggles in their Sorcerer'sCompanion. From astrology to Grindylow to reading tea leaves to witchpersecution, this fascinating volume gets to the bottom of every magical mysteryconnected with Hogwarts. Readers learn the unusual method by which premodernEuropeans protected themselves from the cry of the uprooted Mandrake, involvinga loyal dog and a rope. (Professor Sprout's solution was to have her herbologystudents wear earmuffs). Hermione probably knew, when she was hexed by DracoMalfoy so that her teeth suddenly grew past her chin, that hexes originated inEurope. But did she know the connection between hexes and the folk magic of thePennsylvania Dutch? For fans of the tremendously popular Harry Potter series, oranyone who is intrigued by magical lore, the Sorcerer's Companion willquickly become a true friend. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good beginner's mythology book
If you're expecting a "Harry Potter" book don't buy this one. If you are interested in learning about the myths that inspired Rowling, then you'll like it. In fact this book could have been written pre-1995, the only difference would be that there would be no refereces to JKR's work. (Rowling would have found it usefull in writing her stories.)

I have been studying the occult for 8 years, so not much of the information in this book was new to me. I bought it because I have been reading the Harry Potter books for 4 years, and have recognised many things in the books that closely resemble occult truths. I wanted to see someone else's take on the subject, (given the way Rowling is criticised for the occult-ness of her books).

This book would be best for those who are beginners in the area of mythology/occult teachings. Those well versed in this area will probally not find a great deal of new information in this book, but would probally still find it an amusing read. Also for those who are totally Harry obsessed (as I am).

If they come out with a new edition for the remaining books I will definitely buy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars good read
This is a really good and accurate study of the things in harry potter.

it gives you the histroy and the background aronud some of the more mysterious subjects you come across in the harry potter series and of corse so of the more common subjects.

it even teaches you a little bit about each subject. it gives you a good explanation of arithmancy and enough info to do some basics on it.

    Same with tea leaf reading.

    good read and worth it.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Welcome Companion Along the Road of Wizards
I found this book VERY entertaining, and funny. It doesn't offer anything in the way of clues to the mysteries of Harry Potter, but it will broaden your understanding of mythology throughout history, and give you a better understanding of many things mentioned in the the HP books. Including a bit on Arithmancy (which you can actually do yourself), and Transfiguration, and the meaning of those Rune stones Hermione's always talking about. It also takes a look at the origins of spell casting and mythical beasts like the basilisk, hinkypunk and kappa.

Understanding better why JKR choose some of the creatures and myths that she did for her books helps in your enjoyment of them, and this book will certainly do that. It's also helpful when trying to form some of your own theories on the HP books.
Expanding on the legend of the Grim, this book notes that they are creatures found only at graveyards or in burial grounds, and that if Harry knew this he might not have thought the dog he was seeing in POA was a grim, we then hear from JKR that indeed there is a graveyard at Hogwarts that will turn up in book 6. I found this to be very interesting and wonder if JKR will use that part of the grim myth in her next book. It was also funny to read the part about vampires being irresistibly drawn to counting anything. And can be distracted by throwing a bunch of pebbles in front of them, so you can get away.
There are many more bits like this to be found throughout the book, and whether you use it for sleuthing purposes or not, it's a great read! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars More work than I expected
I bought this for my son thinking it would satisfy his wanting for a slushie maker.Had I realized how long it took to make one(I ground ice for over 45 minutes and only had a half full cup of ice)I would have reconsidered spending the extra money for a motorized slushie maker. My son really liked the product, but we won't be using it very regularly.Maybe in summer when the ice might melt and shave easier it won't take as long.Just be prepared to wait on your finished product for quit awhile. This definately isn't for the impatient.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horrid - awkward, frustrating, and tastes dreadful
Lousy toy. It's an ice shaver that's awkward to handle and too small for even one ice cube at a time - you have to break the cube into pieces before the lid will go on.The flavoring is so bad that my kids all threw the stuff away rather than eat it.A nuisance and a waste, this is the only lousy Harry Potter toy I've come across.

5-0 out of 5 stars H. P. Pumpkin Drink Maker
The Drink Maker is well worth the money. My daughter got one from her sister recently on her 11th birthday. It only took one day to use up the mixes, but we bought some cheap strawberry ice cream syrup and she said that it tasted better than the mix.Good fun. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Symphonic Masterpiece!
This Harry Potter Soundrack is the best! The symphonic orchestra is great and the music is so catchy. It is perfectly pitched for this movie. My personal favorite songs are "Fawkes Reborn" and "Leaving Hogworts". Their melodies are perfect and if you buy this cd, you won't be able to stop listening to it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars she's very cute
I bought this stuffed Hedwig for my sister's brithday. She thinks it is really cute. Even some of the people we know who aren't into Harry Potter think she's adorable. She is a little bit short and fat for a snowy, but that makes it possible for her to stand on her own. Our younger counsins saw it on my sister's bed and knew exactly who it was. I think that is the most important thing. She is also very soft and lovable. Her little talons are espeically cute.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too cute to pass up
Finally they made Hedwig into a plush toy! She's tiny, but adorable. This is a great buy for a little kid who can't get their hands off stuffed animals.Or, just buy her to add to your Harry Potter decor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hedwig make me shine !!
I bought this Hedwig for my Halloween custom --- I was a Harry Porter this year.It made me very identical because people may not recognize you in the first minute the saw you, but with Hewig standing on your shoulder, they know you are Harry Porter immediately !!

And suprisly, many girls show more interest on Hewing than Harry Porter, they come and touch it. It is very durable because I used strong tape to make it stand on my shoulder, and it is still perfectly fine now.

Even without the cumstom, Hewing is still a very vute and lovable decoration when it stands on my desk. I love it ! ... Read more
