4-0 out of 5 stars Gobs o' fun
This is quite possibly the funniest book I have ever read.

2-0 out of 5 stars KROUSHER IS A ...
Although a lot of the information is accurate, I got the distict impression that Richard enjoyed writing this book far more than was appropriate!100 reasons why one oughta eat one's gun rather than be captured alive in some backwards 3rd world hellhole!NOT for the squeamish (or anyone else for that matter!).

4-0 out of 5 stars Scary Stuff - Physical Interrogation is...
I read this book from cover to cover.Picture yourself driving down the highway; you notice a huge accident happen about 20 cars in front of you.Traffic stops.Do you get out and try to help?Do you get out to look? How about when you drive by an accident that happened recently? Why do you look at it? Trying to see dead bodies?Decapitations?Gross, huh?But you just can't help looking!!This book is the same way.

It was incredibly difficult to put down. The ideas are sound. The whole thing makes sense; from the nakedness as a break-down technique to humble your target, to the passage about the eyeball.Don't ask - just read the book. You will certainly be grossed out.You will definately look at Physical interrogation (AKA "Torture") in whole new manner.... FEAR!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
Yes, this is a morbid but extremely interesting little book and was well worth the purchase. The descriptions of the executions are realistic at all times, and you wont read it in a linear fashion, as it is an encyclopedia. This book made me ponder human nature, to read of such cruelties you could be forgiven for thinking the minds who thought them up werent human. Mankinds cruelty can be fed directly from his imagination. Some of these methods are extremely bizarre, particularly sewing inside a dead horse and the truly revolting scaphismus, as a person who loathes insects, i have to say that that method for me was probably the worst, perhaps there is possibly too much emphasis on more mundane forms of execution (we all know enough about beheading and hanging already for example)though their inclusion was perhaps necessary for completeness, in those cases the historical background is fascinating anyway. Though it is hard to measure these things, one could argue that being placed naked inside a brazen bull, or being fried to death is the worst (if you were actually suffering either one of these, you'd 'want' to be slowly digested by maggots instead no doubt). See what i mean? This book is a filthy little morsel for the imagination.

Thumbs are up

5-0 out of 5 stars Gruesome, gory, and great!
If you are fascinated by each and every detail of state-sponsored executions, you will find this book enlightening and very entertaining. It covers all manner of executions, from "Axe" to "Torn Apart by Wild Beasts." Ouch. What are you waiting for? Buy it, and you will have an endless supply of great execution stories for friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars Reality Check
An excellent introduction into the topic. A little less informative than I would have liked on some topics and to much detail on others, almost to the point of stating the obvious.
But, again if you're looking for a book to give you a taste of the topic then this is the one for you. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Morbidly fascinating
Very informative, although perhaps a little too monotonous. It is well laid out and is sure to give you many "wow" moments. May not be suited for the weak of spirit.

4-0 out of 5 stars With a turn of the screw, this review is for you
With The Instruments of Torture, Mr.Kerrigan has written a superbly informative and gruesome journey into the hellish world of torture. He illustrates his book with nightmarish visions of a world gone mad! The author's text is both well researched and entertaining. This book ranks with Innes's History of Tortureand Farrington's History of Punishment and Torture. Only John Swain's masterpiece The Pleasures of the Torture Chamber ranks higher!

5-0 out of 5 stars A real pick me up
This is the kind of book that makes me break out in warm shivers all over the place.Me and my gay lover, miranda, love to use this book for inspiration when our sex life gets bogged down. The pictures are informational and simply drawn, and the "how to" section is a must read for your typical sado-masochist who loves to try new things.I strongly suggest that you try the "Roundhouse of Doom" with your next (...) of blood, pain and violence. So, if you like to dress up in stiff leather vestiments and whip your mate, this is definately the book for you. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference on Oriental Meridians
I was really surprised to see so many negative reviews for this excellent book. I can only imagine that the writers were expecting a book teaching them the art of Pressure Point fighting, and while there is a brief section on both healing and martial arts applications in the book, this work is really about the Meridian and acupoint system of the human body, and it succeeds brilliantly as such. Also to be commended is the author's excellent overview of Western Anatomy and explanations of how Eastern and Western concepts mesh. The book is packed with info, mostly in the form of charts with short explanations.Certainly, you aren't going to learn everything there is to know about TCM, but what a great reference! As an Asian style bodyworker,I love this book. It's the best one I've found yet on Oriental Meridians. It is very straightforward and the Meridan charts are first class. The quality of this book is also first rate: nice stiff pages that read well and will hold up to a lot of pawing and page turning. Buy and study this book to learn the "whats" and "wheres" of TCM. Then find a Master to learn how to apply this wealth of information. This book WILL show you where the points are and how the different points and the meridians affect the body as a whole.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not enough martial arts content
I think that the title is a bit misleading. This book does have lots of good information compiled into one source. The problem is that it is more of an anatomy book than a martial arts resource. There are good illustrations though I do not think that there is enough depth or analysis in the surrounding text. Discussions of meridians and pressure points are more suited to acupressure/acupuncture students than to martial artists who are the target of perhaps 10% of the content. There is almost nothing, for example, about how martial techniques work from a bio-mechanical perspective, nor how applications affect the body medically. If you want a good overview that compares and contrasts Western and Eastern thought it's a decent reference, but if you want an in-depth study suitable for serious martial artists this is probably not your best resource.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so essential
A very misleading title and description for this book. Other than some very basic western concespts of anatomy (you got them in the 8th grade), this book is good for little more than it's thorough coverage of the meridians, which comprises more than 80% of it's content. ... Read more
