5-0 out of 5 stars Coco Chanel: The French self-made woman
From an orphanage in France to the Ritz hotel in Paris, Coco Chanel created an entire style empire that lives on. A French fasionista version of Eva Peron for the couture world. Coco remains an icon and legend.

4-0 out of 5 stars A designer of authentic beauty
This is a substantial book in both size and pictorial content.
4-0 out of 5 stars COCO
Mademoiselle Chanel was quite a woman. She totally invented herself, she was her best creation. This book does a fine job of showing off the clothes that made her famous and also offers many pictures of the singular Coco. The layout of the book is unique and took some getting use to, but it is informative and quite interesting. It is amazing all the men she was reportedly engaged with, she was not what one would call beautiful, but the woman had style and she knew knew how to work powerful men, a priceless talent in her day and unfortunitely to this day.Really a very good book on an amazing woman. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars thoroughly covered material
I used this textbook in a college course called Survey of the Fashion Industry. The text covers all aspects of merchandising, with a strong focus on fashion design (entire chapters on textiles, etc). Good photos and lots of material!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not only Fendi.
Information correction. The 20 cards are not only from Fendi, they also contain Dior, Chanel, GUCCI, Prada...etc. You will like it very much.

5-0 out of 5 stars It is the best visionaire in this two years
I started collecting visionaire two years ago, I think #33, Touch, is the best issue throughout these two years. (It is even better than LV #30). The brushed golden metal box is shiny and grand. There are 20 Fendi 2000/2001 fashion desigen collection image cards, every card is produced by different printing techniques, for instance, foil-stamping, sculpt-embossing, 3D...etc, It is creative and beautiful. A wearable pony skin scarf is used for packing the 20 cards in order to put them inside the golden metal box. This scarf is definitely the image of Fendi fashion style. Both scarf, golden box and image card are very match in colour and style. It is a perfect art design except it is a little bit expensive. (Actually, I really hope to cancel half star of the 5 I rated above because of the higher price)However, I still don't know how to wear the scarf. Anyway, if you like collecting beautiful creative design product and you can afford, buy it. I think you will like it because it is a full marks-5 star product. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars YOU'VE GOT TO HAVE IT!!!
My teacher recommmended that I get this book and I absoulutely love it. Karen Hagen is a great illustrator and gives a variety of ideas of different mediums to use and how to coordinate them all together. This book is also great for those who don't quite know how to draw. There are step by step instructions and the illustrations are great!

4-0 out of 5 stars Secrets that sould be known to every sewer
Although the pictures are old fashioned, to say the least, the technic and tips of how to manage the smallest details are priceless. And I thought I knew it all after 25 years of sewing. This book is a bible to every sewer.

3-0 out of 5 stars High fashion...Maybe
I was completely unimpressed with this book.It does contain some interesting sewing techniques, but for the most part she shows you how to copy design features of now out-of-style designer clothing and shares a lot of famous designer trivia (lots of name dropping). There are some useful tips, but for the price of the book, tips are not worth it. The last third of the book is dedicated to drafting patterns from scratch or copying other clothing. The only photos are of the finished garment - no photos of the techniques or steps.Illustrations are adequate, not great.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for taking your sewing skills to the next level...
If you have never sewn before or are just starting, this book is not for you.The author assumes someone reading this book has some intermediate sewing skills. The techniques in this book are useful, when you want to go from making a plain old patch/seam pocket to a double welt, bound buttonholes instead of the ghetto machine stitched ones, and there is really good information about facings, interfacing, and lining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy Crow

5-0 out of 5 stars Nancy's Big, Beautiful Book
This new book covers the spectrum from gorgeous coffee table art book to instruction on how to grow as an artist and a person.Nancy has struggled through the learning curve in a systematic and logical way, and shown others by example how to develop their personal talents and skills as fabric artists.Of course, the quilts are well beyond wonderful and the glimpes into her private life are inspiring.I wonder what comes next from Nancy Crow! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Average to poor read
I have to agree with several of the previous reviewers who fault this book for being "light" on the information.I consider myself average in wardrobe knowledge and I really didn't learn anything new.It wasn't even presented in a particularly insightful manner. Some info was a good reminder, however, but plain stuff, like buying the right type of hangers for your closet.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing to Wear?
What a fun and informative book.If anyone is unsure of why they don't wear half the items in their closet, read this book! 5-0 out of 5 stars Even If You Don't Craft, Buy It For the Humor!
This book reads like a snarky, no-nonsense conversation between yourself and that favorite roomate of yours who made all their own clothes, and somehow managed to live off of $50 a week (and liked it!). Ms. Nicolay is by FAR my favorite craft book author, simply because she writes with less pretension, more results. I'm a crafty pre-med student on a strict budget (of time and money), and this guide makes it possible for me to enter a thrift store and have a year's worth of outfits/accessories for twenty dollars or less when I walk out. Who'd have thought my worn-out Little League tees would make a cute messenger tote or that concert tee I spilled Tabasco on could find new life as side panels of a 10-minute A-line skirt? My girlfriends and I recently hit the thrift shop and bought a myriad of colorful tees, and just spent a rainy afternoon watching a stack of movies and making halter tops and safety-pinned armwarmers for that night's clubbing! Any book that inspires thrifty fashion sense, and unlimited fun whether enjoying your own company or a roomful of friends is well worth a few bucks!

2-0 out of 5 stars Repetitive designs and NO SEWING
If you do not sew and do not mind the same type of design slightly re-worked into ten different things than get this book. Most designs are slash and tie and require little to no sewing. Not what I had in mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I LOVE THIS BOOK. :) I am 24 years old and I bought this book because I have tons of band tees that are too large for me. I wanted to jazz them up and this book is perfect for it! The author[Megan] shows you the stitches you need to be able to do the sewing, and even if your hand isn't so good, 1/3 of the projects are NO SEW! and you can even make SKIRTS out of your old tee shirts! I am just so excited about this book and I'm not even finished reading it yet. Megan's writing style is so easy going and hip too. The book is quite funny as well heheGo get it!Thank you, Megan! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars BEYOND WACK
You have got to be kidding me. This stuff was tacky when it ran in magazines...so now a book of it? Whatev... not to mention the horribly CHEAPO paper and way crummy binding. What was the guy thinking? Filthy lucre, I suppose. Three to six months until it hits the remainder table. A better subtitle might have been, "How I Stopped Worrying About What a Decent Book Should Be". Saveyourself the bread.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Weber fashion primer
"Blood, Sweat and Tears" is an essential monograph. Impressive in it's sheer heft but magnificent for Bruce Weber's beautiful fashion imagery and cultural significance for a quarter century.
2-0 out of 5 stars Truth be told: pretty lame
The paper quality is poor, and the colors are washed out and not at all crisp. If you already own "Men without Ties," you can definitely skip this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars well written but not realistic
Ok, so this book took me by surprise, I expected it to be garbage but it's actually well-written (with exception to the "street language") and full of good no-nonsense advice.I was particularly impressed with the chapters on confidence, handling money, and relationships.BUT, Kimora lives in a totally different world with a LOT of money and it is easy to be fabulous when you have tons of $.This is not realistic for those of us who work 9-5 jobs to support our families and do not have the luxury of a housekeeper, nanny, cook, gardener, driver, etc etc. Case in point:I work a part-time job on the weekend so that I can be home with my children during the week. This past week both my kids were sick, and I was dealing with runny noses, fevers, vomit, and crankiness. Now I have to get ready to work 2 double shifts. When is there time to be fabulous??Perhaps she should write a book on Fabulosity:The abbreviated version for working mothers.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book!!!!! Within 5 minutes of reading it, I already felt empowered!!! Kimora Lee Simmons keeps it real with everyone no matter who you are. This book taught me how to be FABULOUS!!! It is well written and is a GREAT book for any woman. I LOVE KIMORA LEE SIMMONS!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Woman Has It Going On
I purchased the book with GREATTTT Expectations, I was notdisappointed at all, This book was worth every dollar I spent And it was worth my quiet weak-endhome alone reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Du Marivaudage" or about Seduction in french style fashion and interiors
This is a book you will enjoy. It will appeal to anyone interested in decorative arts in France between 1750 and 1789. The fashion focuses on dress and its aesthetic interplay with art, furniture, and the decorative arts of the period. Presented in a dramatic setting, the beautiful pictures of the Metropolitan Museum exhibition explore the dressed body's spatial negotiation of the 18th-century interior as a choreography of seduction and erotic play.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning collection of costume photos
Beautiful full color photographs of the Met's Louis XIV's clothing collection and furniture.Manequines are dressed in beautiful originals and posed in drawing rooms and boudoirs in real life poses, flirting, playing piano, having their hair done, playing cards. The photographs are very well done, clear and the detail pieces will be a boon to any costumer.I highly recommend this book for costumers and other historical clothing buffs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fusion of Fashion and Style, done with amazing grace
When I was young, I read a biography for children about the tragic Marie Antoinette, last queen of France, and found myself enthralled by the exquisite decorative arts of the time. It was a culture that viewed that every surface and substance was an opportunity to embellish and use. Sometimes the end results were overblown, but also managed to stay on the edge of good taste.

5-0 out of 5 stars Too lovely for words...
...but I'll try anyway! 5-0 out of 5 stars WHERE?
Visioanire is finally making its strong comeback in their couture magazine publication. Where? is in the same league alongside Visionaire 18 and Visionaire 24 which have cemented themsevles as the cream of allvisioanires, the must have magazines to make your coffee table totallyeccentric. The whole process of getting to the natural leather travel guideby Hermes is unreal. First is a black box with Visonaire 32 on it theninside this is a Hermes Box which then holds inside it a Hermes Bag whichholds the leather guide within it. Then inside the leather guide is 50postacards depicting the magical imaginative location of Where? made fromthe likes of photographers Martio Testino, Peter Lindburgh, Bruce Weber, illustrator Mats Gustafson, art director Fabien Baron, artist Nan Goldin,Wolfgang Tillmans, Oliver Wasow, Jeff Burton, Lauren Greenfield, filmmakerPedro Almodovar, fashion designer Hussein Chalayan, musician Micheal Stipeand many more. 2-0 out of 5 stars Figure Templates for Fashion Illustration
This book promises more than it delivers. The basic templates are useful, but in all other aspects this book is lacking.4-0 out of 5 stars great for copying
this isn't the 'how to draw the fashion model' book you wish taught you everything you ever needed to know. However, its good to have around when you just need to pump an idea out.It has women, men, and children.
