Large sharp illustrations make this book a must for any Kelly fan. Rarely do you find such a collection of Kelly's Plant lithographs. It is great for someone wanting to study his work or for the person who appreciates the beauty of a line drawing. I have been waiting a long time for such a book. 5 stars ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not for the Collector!
THIS DOES NOT CONTAIN THE COMPLETE LITHOGRAPHIC WORKS OF CHAGALL.
3-0 out of 5 stars Should come with a magnifying glass!
Chagall was such a prolific artist that of course any book that is a complete catalog of anything he did, let alone lithography, would have to have small pictures or require a forklift.Nonetheless, it's a pity that so many of the lithographs in this book are reproduced in a size not much bigger than a postage stamp.
4-0 out of 5 stars For any Chagall fan!
I never thought that I would own that book one day because of its price. But as a HUGE fan of this artist, I have finally decided to buy it... and I don't regret it! I bought many books on Chagall's painting, and this one isundoubtebly a masterpiece. It is beautifully illustrated andexcellentlydocumented. The interviews at the beginning of the book (for example, theone with Henri Deschamps) are quite interesting, and the global"presentation" of the book is simple but beautiful. The onlything that disappointed me a little is that I was kind of hoping to seemore full-page lithographs. I knew that this was a catalogue raisonnbefore I bought it, but was hoping just the same to see more one-pageillustrations, although the ones that are there (for example, the completepaintings for Daphnis and Chlo) are wonderful. The quality of printing isjust superb and this book is definitely a good buy for any Chagallafficionado. In fact, I would say that this book, completed with"Chagall" by Jacob Baal-Teshuva (Taschen)-- if you could findit!-- would be the best two buys you could do. Trust me! :) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Lithographs
This book contains the prints of lithographs made by Miro' first produced in 1944, at the time of World War II. The illustrations are all black and white - some forms are quite whimsical, others reflect the influence of Picasso and surrealism. Though Miro's works usually contained bold colors, these works are all the more pwerful for the tonal values of black and white.4-0 out of 5 stars Miro
What can I say about Miro's art? I love it. Art is a purely subjective thing. I enjoy the subtle technigues you notice in his art when you look closely. Sitting back and absorbing the art allows all sorts of images to come to mind. Miro has some very lovely backgrounds for his work, using shades of color to add depth and a sense of realism to his work. Some of my favorites are "femme et chat" and "animal composition". ... Editorial Review

When graphic designer Paul Colin published a limited edition of lithographs he'd made of dancer Josephine Baker and her revue in Paris in 1927, the French fascination with American jazz musicians and dancers was at its peak--and the 500 hand-colored copies quickly sold out. 5-0 out of 5 stars As a textbook
I use this text for basic and advanced courses at RIT. This book explains the multiple systems on modern offset lithographic presses. It is usually clear and concise (except its explaination of the many possible dampening systems is confusing). The diagrams and photographs are very helpful.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Little Gem
I was disappointed when I first received this book.I had bought it as recommended reading for my design course and ordered it blindly.I don't know what I had expected but this wasn't it.Then, one day, I pulled it off my bookcase, looking for information on a certain type of design - and suddenly found myself enthralled with the beauty of this book.Let it not fool you, it's a beautiful little gem packed with design and information. Not a centimetre wasted.

5-0 out of 5 stars Details, Details, Details...
If you are looking for pure details for specific styles, this book is for you.If you are looking for overviews or full pictures, this may not be for you.If you are into design, I think it is a great resource to put on your shelf!

5-0 out of 5 stars This CD is the best.
I have the thin booklet as a reference to the CD, which I purchased some years ago. If you do Webpage design this CD is a must have. Unlike other CDs of Grammar of Ornament this one has the images in EPSF, JPEG and PDF form. Others I've looked at onlyhad PDF and that doesn't do me any good. I've used Fireworks from Macromedia's Studio MX Suite to make backgrounds and buttons for webpages made with Flash and Dreamweaver. If you can get your hands on this CD or any of the other CDs Direct Imagination has created, do it. I do think Grammar of Ornament is the best of all the ones Direct Imagination produced. Having the book for reference with it is handy, but if you can only get the CD alone, do it anyway. After a while you just know which plate has which graphic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Through the eyes of Toulouse-Lautrec
This book collects art created by Toulouse-Lautrec in the 1890s. Among the pieces in the book are commercial poster and song-sheet covers. Toulouse-Lautrec captured memorable images: dancers, women wearing fashionable clothes of the era, a clown, a carriage ride in the country, and more. This book is a great resource for those interested in art history. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Litho by the man who created litho
Lithography was a major step forward in printing. It combined the versatility of intaglio prints with the production capablity of letterpress, and made printed reproduction accessible and affordable. Back when copying meant hand-copying, it was quite remarkable (to use his example) to have fifty copies of a meeting's minutes an hour after the meeting. What amazes me is not just the fact of the copies, but the low cost that made it worthwhile to record even mundane meetings.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars TOULOUSE WHOSE MOTHER WAS A CONTESS
Even those who are not interested in art know TOULOUSE-LAUTREC, he has become universal.Yes he is the guy who used to hang around bordellos and the MOULIN-ROUGE will always be associated to him.ARISTIDE BRUANT and YVETTE GUILBERT two popular FRENCH singers were immortalize by him.TOULOUSE-LAUTREC was never interested in doing landscapes, he was mostly a portraitist who had fun as a caricaturist of his society LA BELLE EPOQUE.The book summarize his life the way it should be and has some useful documents that makes it interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really interesting (even if you don't like his art)
I prefer the smaller size of this book (compared to "coffee table" editions). Even though it is a practical size, the reprinted art is vivid and does not suffer from the smaller pages. Also this book isreally informative (not alot of meaningless art jargon and expert opinions)like so many of those coffee table books suffer from. ... Read more
