5-0 out of 5 stars The Girl In Tower 1
The absolute best book out there on 9/11.I wish they had a volume 2 and 3 and 4, as there were enough photos.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book that focuses on a powerful event in our country.
I am glad to have this book in my collection on the tragedy that gripped New York City on September 11th. The pictures showed the emotion of that day. It was well worth the money to purchase this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Words can not describe...
This book is so special to me that I bought a copy to put away for my two year old son.It is important to me that someday he will fully grasp the enormity of that day and the consequences that he will experience from it throughout his life.

5-0 out of 5 stars This thing's a beast
This is 600 pages packed with deep analysis. It will take a while to read, but you will probably know more than many Hollywood directors by the time you finish it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted
This book helped me to understand the inner philosophy of cinema and its techniques. I'm a Director in film and tv industry. I tried to find resources about the art of my specialty. This book is what I wanted it's writing about Low budget film making but in a totally profecional way. I was so bored of these books writing about the "HOLLYWOOD" filmmaking standards. I appreciate that this book brings the art of Cinema in the hands of ordinary people, with no money to make the "extraordinary production" films but in people which trying to find the real essence of Cinema.

5-0 out of 5 stars Plain speak on directing
I have read many books on directing, and recently been directed my first project with a real budget, real crew. This book is the best for learning the production process, and covers it all in a plain-speak nuts & bolts fashion. A great resource ro prepare a director who wants to work at the professional level. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars More recent version: exhibition in Santa Monica, CA
I cannot highly enough recommend either the exhibit or any of the accompanying materials: books, poster, etc. We waited to see this for 2 years, until it went to CA.
4-0 out of 5 stars The peripatetic mission of global unity
The Nomadic Museum, a facility constructed onsite in various locales(now in Santa Monica, CA) out of boxcars, cartons, and pipes is in itself an artwork and the peripatetic museum houses some wispy photographs by Gregory Colbert of moments of world observation that in context are strangely moving. The object is to bring the spirit of mankind into a space outside the usual exhibition venues and in doing so it becomes an experience for the people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
This is a must have for artists, animators and actors. Yes, the photography is superb, so as a pure art book, it's great. But I also recommend this book as a teaching tool. I have seen many, many books on facial expression, but this one surpasses them all by miles. Not only because it uses actors instead of ordinary Joes, but Schatz puts them into character by giving them a situation to react to and a personality to react with. Other books on expression, simply state "sad" or "confused" or "angry". Schatz directs the actors by saying "your are a man who has been told he has inoperable cancer", for instance. The results speak for themselves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Look closely-
The camera never lies. Howard Schatz has re-invented celebrity photography. The actors in this collection playfully dance through a myriad of emotions (directed by Shatz) and later wax sentimantal about their career. Any coffee table of any stature should be proud to have this book lying on it.
5-0 out of 5 stars BEAUUUUUUUUUTIFUL !!!!!!
Love this book, just bought it at Barnes & Noble in Ft. Lauderdale. I know all these actors but have never seen them making faces like this. Robert Klein is so cool, and so is Edie Falco. It amazes me that photographers come up with such fantastic ideas for books. I get bored looking at family albums, so gimme more of this!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its title
It's easy to come up with seductive titles for image editing books, purporting to help you "Master" the topic or offer a "missing" manual. But when you get right down to it, most of the books just offer the same old basic information. 5-0 out of 5 stars Top of the bill !!
As a "collectionner" of the best Photoshop books on the market I must recommend this excellent book from Richard Lynch to all the digital photographers among us.Other reviewers explained the content of the book in detail so I won't do the same,I can only agree their comments! 4-0 out of 5 stars Power at a bargain price
If you are already comfortable with Elements 4, but feel a little frustrated by the lack of a number of tools of its bigger brother, this is for you. I bought it for the tools: I discovered the book is full of invaluable advice. Workflow, separations, masking... The combination of Elements 4 with the book and tools covers all my expectations for a dedicated amateur. And yes, I like shooting raw, taking advantage of 16 bits, black and white... and I have still much too learn from the book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Intense, Deep and Smartly satisfying
Photographer Lili Almog truly impresses with this volume: beautiful photographs, great compositions, enlightening observations...Itotally enjoyed every page, and highly recommend it to all. Brava!!

5-0 out of 5 stars stunning
I picked this book up at the book store just to thumb through it. I shortly sat down and slowly went through these stunning photographs.Almog has captured a sense of serenity and simplicityin these photographs. They are also thoughtprovoking, revealing many aspects of convent life. The quotes scattered throughout are also lovely and interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up
I would recommend this book if you're looking for something with great pictures and a brief narrative. The photos were good in that they weren't all taken in the summer, as in most books of this type.It was nice to see these historic homes in the spring bloom, fall colors and winter white-scape.Of course the summer shots were also beautiful.A good book for your own or for a gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous Old Dominion
Gleason really excelled in books of this kind, he really knew how to capture these old grand buildings. This book is first rate and it covers all of the well known homes as well as some that may not be so familiar. All of his books of this genre are consistantly top notch. The colors are vibrant and just pop off the page.I recommend this book to anyone interested in the grandeur of the Old South, it's just amazing how many of these houses survived the Civil War, with battles often within earshot of the veranda.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
I'm not really a lover of wildlife photography, but this incredible book impressed me because it is so very much more than that. It is a celebration of the beauty of African scenery; it provides intimate encounters with African fauna and flora; and it simply carries the reader away on a dream journey into wilderness spaces.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book
I've travelled all over Africa and have never before seen something that captures the best of its beauty like this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Magnificent!!!!!!!!!!!10 out of 10!!!
I am a collector of coffee table books, and I have many in my collection.I can say without a doubt that AFRICA by michael Poliza is the finest photography book that I have ever seen!In both presentation and content it is quite simply a magnificent book!!It is huge, 15 X 11.75 and 408 pages. There are 180 color photographs in it, all spread over 2 pages. The back of the book has small thumbnails describing each photo. Most of the photos were taken in Southern Africa, with the great majority being in Botswana.there are many close-up shots of animals, with a few landscape and aerial photographs included.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic book for a very much loved park
Did you know that the elm lined mall leading to the Bethesda fountain and the view of the ramble are actually based on the layout of a church? Or that all of the lakes in Central Park are manmade. This and many other very interesting facts are interspersed with lovingly taken photographs of the park which were taken by the author of the book as well. Miller starts decribing how the park came to be and the leading ideas and ideals that lead to its creation by Olmsted and Vaux. She proceeds to describe systematically the various sections of the park providing historical information as well. She delves into the some of the controversies and compromises that Olmsted and Vaux encountered in the creation of one of the finest examples of 19th Century art but it is not a comprehensive history of the park. There is a 2 page map of the park at the of the book with a legend identifying each of the features discussed in the book. If you are first time visitor to the city wishing to explore the park in detail or a life long New Yorker this book will delight and surprise you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Definitive Review of the Finest Work of Art in NYC
As an avid fan of Central Park who has been exploring it and studying the books on it for decades, I was amazed at what there was still to learn about it from Miller's book. For example, other historians allude to a connection between Central Park's design and the Hudson River School of landscape art: Miller provides actual sources of the designer's inspiration and shows the results explicitly in the photos. And all in a way that is not at all "bookish" but instead makes you want to go right in and see for yourself the scenes she shows so well in the book's illustrations. The beautiful photos and fascinating stories and the well chosen historical prints all work together in such a compelling and entertaining way that one might never realize one is being educated by a superb textbook in the field of art.
5-0 out of 5 stars New York's Oasis
Central Park is breath taking and this book does a fine job of giving the reader a feel for what makes this 850 acre masterpiece so special. The book is quite thorough and does an commendable job of disecting various sections of the park. The color photos are vivid and well thought out and the text is highly informative. The author has a real love for the park and it comes out in her writing. If you have never visited Central Park or have visited and fell in love with it like so many others, you will love this book. This oasis really is the heart of New York City and to understand New York you have to understand the parks historyand its vast importantance to the city.Central Parks importance to New York and New Yorkers cannot be overstated, I can't imagine the city without it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have!
What's truly amazing about this book is that it combines high quality artistic nudes, by talented photographers throughout the world, with in-depth discussion of techniques. It's rare to find both in the same book, and to find them so well integrated. The quality of the images is so high that I could well have bought it for the photos alone - something that almost never is the case with photo how-to books! And, the reproduction quality is absolutely amazing, rivaling that of some of the highest quality hard-bound coffee table books! And, that leads me to the final point ... The price is actually reasonable, because it is in paperback form (not really paper, but rather that high quality durable plastic clad type of "paper").If you like books with artistic nudes, this one is a must have!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent book for the Doré or Dante lover
The quality of this book - along with an amazingly affordable price tag - quickly persuaded me to pick up a copy. Its really everything you could ask for in an art book;
4-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful (Really 4 and a half stars)
I have looked at a variety of Dante artists. Some well known and some are not. Suloni Robertson, John Flaxman, Willam Blake, Sandro Botticelli, Sandow Birk, Herb Roe. Do a google search to look at the works of some of these like Sandow Birk. There are some that are more obscure which in a way documents the Comedy, more specifically the Inferno. I'm not going to say who I don't like but Dore is the best. I am rather specific about artists. Dore makes the grade. He is good, really good and when you look at this book, you feel like you are in the terrible depths of hell. I like purgatorio too. I feel the religious prayer songs in my head as I see Beatrice's entrance. There is so much symbolism in these pictures, especially in Paradiso. Though I do disagree with the depiction of Muhammad in hell, the rest is fantastic. I mean that he looks more like he's British then Middle Eastern. I imagine him with blonde hair in the plate. The tortured look on Dante's face in the plate with Betrand de Born, (The cover pic) is extraordinary. I felt how he felt. That is why Dore is so good. I had also hoped for more detail with Ugolino because his story is fantastically horrifying.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Dore's Illustrations for Dante's Commedia are great.
The Illustrations from the 1st canto in the Inferno to the last of Paradiso are great because they help as a visual aid when reading the Divina Commedia. One can really see how and in which ways Dore, when he design the illustrations, followed the text very closely. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Atlas of Foreshortening: The Human Figure is Deep Perspective
The book is okay. My biggest beef is that a lot of the poses that the models are in are pretty boring and could have been more interesting. They seemed pretty repetative to me as well. However, it does over insight on the muscles shapes formed when looking at the body from deep perspective. You can then takes that and push it to your needs.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent!
This is the book I've been searching for for years! Most art photo reference books will either give you very standard standing, lying, walking poses or very artistic poses(ie unclear) . This book has clear photos of the body in unusual positions. There's a wide variety of poses and sections. Both male and female models.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful
There are lots of visual reference books out there. It would be easy to populate a bookshelf with them. After a while, though, they start to look the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, thought-provoking and utterly magical
I recently discovered Sugimoto's pictures browsing the web. This book is beautifully produced and plate after plate demands not only an aesthetic response from the viewer but also a decidedly intellectual and conceptual one (maybe that's the same thing!).It's rare to find art that is simultaneously so beautiful and so profound. ...
