Too much detail about the design of his shoe.
BUT, if you take anything out of this book, it's the fact that Jordan works harder than his peers, whether it was basketball or business.His inner drive and desire to succeed and give it his all is what I took away from the book.I would skim the parts on shoe design and focus mainly on his words and advice, especially on work ethic.

Not just for basketball fans
As a yoga instructor and athletic trainer who works with professional athletes, I wish I had found this book sooner. I just read it and plan to reread it again. Amazing. Absolutely thought-provoking.You'll find yourself thinking about this one in the shower, just contemplating Phil's wisdom and how you can apply it to your own life. Anyone considering or presently on a path to spirituality and self awareness--no basketball interest or experience required--should read this book. If you want to gain a better understanding of the value of staying present in the moment, I urge you to pick up this book and let Phil Jackson enlighten you. It brought me peace.
When I was going through a very hard time in my life, my boxing trainer recommended I read this book.I'm not a basketball fan and am not normally into self-help books either.Phil Jackson takes the reader down a spiritual road that overlaps with his career as a professional basketball coach.I've found some of his techniques and philosophies have brought great mental peace to me, while the stories of the professional sports business were interesting and entertaining.

Brutally honest
If you like a teaspoon of New Age mumbo jumbo combined with a mustachioed author's psycho-babble, I suggest you check out Star Jones new book. Phil Jackson has had greatness thrust upon him. Michael Jordan, Stacey King, Kobe Bryant, and Shaq are the reason we know his name. Not his Jerry Garcia, Phoenix University degree, dimestore analysis of the spiritual side of coaching and people management. Make him the coach of the Trailblazers and see how great he is. ... My Losing Season is no loser...
Okay, I admit it, I'm not a big basketball fan. Still,I would read anything Pat Conroy penned--including the owner's manual to my DVD player. My Losing Season shows a more mature author reminicsing about a magical time in a young man's life. Not magical because it was perfect, but because it wasn't. Conroy's writing is not only about college ball, it reflects all that life offers in a clearer, deeper stye and tone than in his previous novels. Conroy's work resonates more than ever.

Wisdom for Writers in My Losing Season
There are many reasons why people write. It's cathartic, for one. You can get off your chest whatever's been eating at you. You can be the hand of justice and dish out rewards and penalties like the gods of ancient Greece. Some people write simply to tell a good story. They have imaginations that cannot stop. There are stories in their heads, relentless, begging to get out. And then others write because they have learned something, and they have something to say. They have wisdom that can only truly be learned the hard way, through painful experience.
My favorite read this year
Maybe even my favorite read ever. This book was a pleasant surprise to me even with my wife's endorsement. She thought I would like it because she did and she couldn't even follow the details of the many basketball games that the author describes. Having played some basketball, I was captivated by Pat Conroy's account of his games and I found myself re-reading some of those passages. This is one of those books that make you feel that you are sharing some of the same feelings that the author is feeling- the joy of winning, the disappointment of losing, and the fear of his father's reactions.

This book tells about Micjaels jordans life all the way from his college life in north Carolina to the nab playing on the Bulls. He led them to 6 nab championships. Then he went on to win the gold in the summer olympics. For The Love Of The Game : My Story
In the book For The Love Of The Game. One thing that I learned about this book is that you should never give up and always keep on trying. Even if you are not good at something at first then you should not give up and keep on trying untill you get good at the thing. And that you should not just stick with one thing but, try other things. You might be good at it. And that things just do not come to you, you have to work at it. That is what I learned about the book.

Stats and Pics
The book is full of great photos. I especially liked the one of Jordan and Dr. J! It also has great statistics from Michael Jordan's career. The layout is very different. I did not like it all that much. I was also a little disappointed that we did not really get to see more of the real Jordan. For a brief moment, we saw his humanity when he wrote about his father. Briefly, he mentioned his family. But mostly, he wrote about himself on the court. I guess I was hoping for more humility from this superstar. I believe he has it in him but the book doesn't show it. A Fantastic Memoir
Conroy's fiction has always been a biography of sorts (Great Santini in particular) but I think his choice to chronicle his life through his final basketball season at the Citadel was brilliant.It brings together all the elements of his fictional life that we have come to love and respect:His overbearing father, the south in the 1950s and 1960s, and the one character common to all his books: Sports.
Disappointing, overrated
As a memoir of a relatively prolific and popular author, this book is a very disappointing.Ardent fans of Pat Conroy obviously love this book, but then again, they love everything with his name on it irrespective of content (a cook book?)Conroy revisits his early experiences that provided the repetivive themes in his fiction as psuedo-non-fiction.(The dialogue in the book reads more like fiction, and it is simply not credible that he could recount exact conversations from childhood to college.)He gives the reader minimal insight into his experience as a writer.Rather, the book reads like an exercise in self-therapy that does explore his well known issues rather deeply (although losing is not one of them.)Conroy may have provided all that he can in terms of describing his process and how he approaches his craft.If that is the case, then this book should serve as inspiration for aspiring writers.Publishing fiction is not necessarily about literary excellence.It's a business.
Another 3 Pointer For Pat
Pat Conroy is a national tresure. His writing is sublime, he is one of the few writers who can capably place the reader into almost any situation and paint such a realistic portrait that the reader feels he is actually there.

Great advice from a Greater man
You can't miss with Wooden's thoughts, words and advice.If you're coaching yong people, he hits home lessons that every player and coach should know and understand.Even if you're just a parent or someone's business supervisor, read this book to learn how to better deal with and motivate those who rely on you for leadership.Don't let the coach down and pass these wonerful skills on to the next generation.Wooden's vision will live long past his coaching days.Find out all about it right here.
A good text for leadership
I purchased this book as part of a Ph.D. level class as a lesson in leadership.Coach Wooden shows his ability to lead and educate through his expertise in the fundamentals and the basics.He demonstrates his ability to change tactics and styles with different individuals, which is essential in good,effective leaders.I would recommend this book on several levels.At face value, it is an exceptional story about an exceptional coach and man.At a deeper level, I think it portrays a good example of how to lead and and how to set an example for those you are trying to lead.

I coach volleyball and am not even particularly fond of basketball, but I found this book to be incredibly worth reading.Wooden may have coached athletics, but the lessons he shares from his own experiences trancend sports and touch on any undertaking.This book will be a permanent fixture in my library. ... Indiana Basketball at its Finest
Coach Bob Knight is a colorful figure who ranks among the all- time greats in college basketball. Known by many people all over the nation for his outspoken personality and occasional temper tantrums, Knight has taken advantage of his skill at playing, recruiting, and coaching to reach the apex of his profession at every level through and including college.
only for knights when you can't sleep
With Coach Knight's long-time antipathy toward writers, often commenting how simple their job is compared to coaching, he left himself wide-open for criticism with his autobiography. Unfortunately, it reminds me of waking up a hibernating bear and jotting down his every yawn and gripe. A few moments of insight amid the tedium.

America, America, God shed His grace on thee
I truly believe there is only one way to judge a college basketball coach.League titles, NCAA appearances, total wins, Final Fours and National Championships are the norm in measuring success.And, of course, prowess in these areas will secure the legacy of anyone.However, the way I quantify coaching greatness is much more important than wins and losses.It's something you can't tangibly gauge.Simply stated, it's the relationships he or she cultivates with players.And the loyalty they show after they graduate.

Allen Iverson Fears No One
This is a book a bout a young man who is born into poverty but overcomes all challenges he is faced with. Allen practices all his life and is able to make it to the NBA.This book is great because it tells you about alot of basketball games that Allen played in. The author really gets you into the game it feels like you are in the fans watching the game. There was nothing about this book that I didnt like. A part that I really liked was when Allen said "This was a perfect ending to a day" I liked it because i could get excactly what he was saying. If you love basketball you should get this book as soon as possible!

Allen Iverson: The Feared One
If you like sports books then this is the book for you.The book about Allen Iverson tells about a young man who grew up in the flums.He became a great basketball player,and retires and has a great life and family.This book attracted me because there was tons of basketball, and it's always interesting to find out about someone's life from when they grew up in a tough neighborhood. One thing that i didnt like about this book was that it talked to much about his college carrier instead of his more interesting pro carrier. Allen Iverson was obviously my favorite character because of what he had to go through in his though neighborhood with all that violence and drugs and how he stayed away from it and became one of the NBA's greatest players.My favorite line was when Iverson said "This is a great ending to a day!" He said that after he hit the winning buzzer beating shot on page 132. It just made me feel good inside because you know that anything could happen.If you like basketball then you will love this book!One question i have is that why did he do some of those foolish things as a child?I recomend this book to everyone because it teaches that if you try your hardest you can suceed.

Allen Iverson Fear no One

He lived in a bad neighborhood where people sold drugs and killed people for no reason.Iverson had two sisters.He was the oldest one. he went to Georgetown when he was in college and was a point guard. In college he was the mvp on his team and is the mvp on his team right now in the NBA.Allen Iverson plays for the Philidelphia Sixers.In the 2001-2002 Allstar game Iverson was the mvp.He led his team to the playoffs and then to the championship to play against the L.a. Lakers who was number one on the western cenference.Although the Sixers lost the championship Allen Iverson and the other players on the Sixers Played a heck of a game.The Lakers were impressed to see how good Allen Iverson was and how a little man like Iverson played with sush a big heart. Skywalker soars
David Thompson was a great basketball player in college and had a great start in his pro career.Unfortunately, David gave in to the lure of drugs and his career and life suffered.Somehow, through his belief in God and his love of family, David was able to eventually overcome his demons.His rebound was too late for his basketball career, but not too late to save his marriage.
David Thompson: Skywalker
Enjoyed this look into the life of David Thompson, both the good, the bad the really bad and the good again. The chapter recalling the 1974 NC State/UCLA semi-final game was so detailed, it was like watching it all over again. Additionally, the book did not shy away from the dark side of David Thompson's life and although he may have not fulfilled his full professional basketball potential, it is gratifying to see his life is now at peace. Not just for hoops fans, but hoops fans will throughly enjoy !

Skywalker comes down-to-earth...
The essence of David Thompson's impact on the NBA and it's fans is captured in the following memory...a playoff game in 1980 with Thompson's Denver Nuggets playing the Seattle Supersonics in the Seattle Kingdome...the game was in it's closing minutes and the outcome was no longer in doubt (Seattle had the game well in hand). Most TV viewers (especially those of us on the East Coast) had already undoubtedly turned off the TV, but I noticed that DT was still in the game. Telling myself to keep watching as Thompson may do something memorable, I kept my attention focused until with about 30 seconds remaining, DT had the ball at the top of the key. Faking left and driving right, he took off from just inside the dotted circle...cuffing the ball in his right hand (at 6' 4" his hands were too small to palm the ball), he sailed in and threw down a one-handed windmill tomahawk slam over two amazed Sonics that brought me and the remaining crowd in the Kingdome to it's feet. My mission then complete, I felt it was safe to then turn off the TV and go to bed.

The Rivalry's Got Game
No two players in NBA history better epitomize the dichotomy between individual excellence and a willingness to blend their talent for the collective success of the team than William Felton Russell and Norman Wilton Chamberlain.
good for anyone who enjoys nonfiction or basketball
A lot of times, these nonfiction books about games and scores and statistics and so on are packed full of information but are dense and not very compelling. John Taylor, however, does an excellent job of presenting a ton of information in a fun and interesting way. The book is easy and entertaining to read, and you'll probably learn a lot about Russell, Chamberlain, and the period during which they played basketball. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys well-written nonfiction, whether or not he is a basketball fan.

Great topic-poorly written
The Chamberlain-Russell "rivalry" is one of the more interesting stories in sport history over the past 40 years, which makes just about any account of it at least halfway intersting. Unfortunately, this book is just that-halfway interesting. It seems as if the author doesn't really understand basketball, and in many places the book reads like a sports bio written for adolescents. A cautionary tale of misused talents.....
Besides being well over six feet tall, Jack Molinas stood above the basketball competition he faced in other ways. His I.Q. was a whopping 175 and he used his native itelligence and skills on the court to fix college games for Columbia during the 50's. Later on, he was suspended from the N.B.A in his rookie season for working the same scams there. The culmination came with the basketball scandals of the early 60's and his arrest and subsequent five-year prison sentence. After leaving the 'big house' he turned his talents to upholding the law by becoming a renowned lawyer. He had spent his life manipulating and lying to people so it seemed a natural fit that he eventually moved to California with a girl friend and became a porn producer. Ultimately, his mob ties from his fix days and shady connections caught up with him however. Apparently, he had welshed on sports bets to bookies connected with La Cosa Nostra. Obviously, a very dumb thing to do for someone gifted with his level of intelligence. He was shot by unknown assailents in his home in 1974. Clearly, out of all the people he cheated in his life, the author of this book makes very clear that the person he ultimately short-changed the most was himself.

BORING
This is probly the most boring book I have ever read. I have read alot of basketball books and by far this is one of the worst. It seemed interesting so I bought it. Then it started out all right but by page 100 I could not keep reading it I just lost interest. I would not reccomend this book.

A little more Charles, please, and a little less editing
You never know what to expect when you tune in to Charles Barkley or begin reading one of his books, but it's safe to assume that it's going to be interesting and most likely controversial.This book lives up to those expectations.In it, Barkley covers a wide range of topics, many dealing with race or race relations in one way or another, and mostly in a sports setting.
I May Be Wrongbut I Doubt It
After being born in a poor Atlanta neighborhood, former NBA star, Charles Barkley shows the reader how a little hope can go a long way. Barkley begins his story growing up and playing basketball in Atlanta; his basketball skills got him a scholarship to the University of Auburn. Fortunately, Charles's mother lived near Auburn and tried to go to all of his games. As you can see, the bond between him and his mother was very strong. After years in Auburn, Charles was then drafted to the Phoenix Suns; from then on he became one of the most renowned basketball players ever. He was traded to the Houston Rockets and retired, being known as one of the best in the NBA. TNT offers Charles as a job as a studio analysis. The question on everyone's lips now is "what will Barkley do next?"
