1-0 out of 5 stars Am I missing something?
This book was really bad- even unreadable.I read about 10 pages and then had to jump around and try to find anything good. This is just delusional acid-tripping.What a bunch of 1970's garbage.Think before you flush this stuff into your mind.I have no idea why so many people rated this book so highly. Are there lots of other silly idiots out there? Yes, there are a few good points and some interesting stuff sprinkled around, but it's all so chaotic and so soaked in drug induced delusions that you have to recoil. This is New Age sewage at its worst.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting Read
If you like reading about the occult, futurism, UFOs etc... you will like this book. It's interesting how Dr. Timothy Leary's predictions from the 7Os never came to fruition. However, I think it attests to his eternal optimisim.

5-0 out of 5 stars VERY TOUCHING!
I believe in psychics as I have psychic dreams of what I am going to see or hear the next day myself. The one story that got me was the story of the Dad astronaut and the child waving good-bye as he blasted off into space. I won't give out anymore details, but buy it and see for yourself. It was tear jerking. All of his books are worth reading, even though this is my first one and his audio CDs are worth getting too.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Big Growth for John & the Readers
After I recently read After Life, I am immensely moved by the last chapter Papa, Can You Hear Me?.It must have taken John a lot of courage to open up and tell a true story about himself and his father.
5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and honest
John Edward cuts right to the heart of skeptics, believers, and what and how he hears from the other side.I am a huge fan, but was particularly struck by John's behind the scenes look at his own life and the lives around him as the other side makes it's case.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Step In the Right direction
I expected another great book about nature's ability to communicate with life forms in more ways than we expect.Instead I got MORE!Influencing each other in ways once couldn't imagine, this book builds past the works of even Michael Roads (author of great works like Journey Into Nature). It is almost too advanced for me just now, but a book I will definitely go back to again and again.
5-0 out of 5 stars When you're ready, it's a journey you cannot miss!
A down-to-earth and simplistic account of valuable insights shed on the relationship between humans and nature and how humans can interact with nature and/or the spiritual realms to bring about profound changes to the quality of human life. What a blessing life can be just so much easier if only we're willing to make it so!

5-0 out of 5 stars despite some other reviews.....
this is a very good book.it's basically an auto-biography and gives the reader an insight into sylvia's early life and early psychic adventures.also, shows childhood pics and pics of her sons and grandchildren...definitely a good read!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
One star is too much. I didn't know much about Sylvia Browne before I read this book, but I now know all I want or need to. This book left a distinct bad taste. The first 60 pages were devoted to chronicling the young Sylvia's social life and the succession of beaus that were supposedly in love with her, as well the various outfits she wore and how she styled her hair before going out on a date. Gifted or not, the whole book seemed boastful and conceited. Plus I really question the spirituality of a person that could dismiss her mother's death as "no real loss" and refer to her ex-husband as "evil" andproceed to slander him at every turn. She constantly wanders off in her anecdotes focusing more on details of crimes rather than psychic ability. This is a vanity book. Save your money and find something else to read.

1-0 out of 5 stars What those with lost loved ones want to hear
The name Sylvia Brown sounded vaguely familiar to me when a friend of mine told me about this book and borrowed it to me so that I could read it.She grew up in a non-religious household and seemed eager for something to believe, and so she enthusiastically recommended it to me.I suppose I fit comfortably into that category of people that "believers" classify as "skeptics," and I am amazed by some of the reviews for this book that recommend it to all skeptics, saying that it will make a believer out of them.It will not.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wilsonian Romp
There really is not much for me to say on this one. It's just a fun ride. The kind you come to expect with Wilson. It is book you can read without having read the Cosmic Trigger books, but it helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars What a conclusion
How many books can begin with their author dieing?Well, it seems that nothing is impossible to Robert Anton Wilson.Finding out about his death on the internet, Wilson takes us along another journey of self discovery and an examination of belief systems.5-0 out of 5 stars OK, HERE'S THE DEAL....
I feel that Wilson might be a genius. He seems to me to be smart enough to realize that his opinion isn't necessarily the best one. He's careful to state that his opinions are just that, OPINIONS.This colors everything he does. {People looking for answers should run screaming the other way.) Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Kiss Them Good-bye
Great book can't wait for her to write some more books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating book!
Well-written, authoritative book about psychics (mediums) and what makes them tick.I have wanted to believe that my departed friends and family are in another world, and she offers proof that they are.If you're a skeptic about life after death, this is the book for you.If she doesn't convince you, she'll surely make you think about it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money
I mostly bought this book because I am a fan of the TV show Medium and thought this book might give me an idea of who / what the real person was.I was hoping also to hear more about the criminal profiling aspect of Alison Dubois' "gift".Unfortuantely none of the above were achieved. This book seems to be more about telling it's audience to accept the psychic's in their lives.I didn't feel it gave me any insight into the afterlife.Overall I was very disappointed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hail The Master Of Knowledge - Wilson Has Done It Again
Wilson has done it again. from james joyce to leary. just when icke was starting to wake up to some of these things...
3-0 out of 5 stars A decent follow-up, but nothing outstanding
R.A. Wilson's "Cosmic Trigger: The Final Secret of the Illuminati" was a fascinating look at the events leading up to the writing of the classic Illuminatus! Trilogy. An intriguing look at relativism in literature and reality, the first Cosmic Trigger delightfully wove acid, Uncle Al, and conspiracy theories into a head-trip of "cosmic" proportions.Wilson's follow-up, unfortunately, fails to break any new ground.2-0 out of 5 stars George Burns was right!
It's funny how Robert Anton Wilson's chosen subject matter has effectively invalidated criticism of his books. One of his central themes is the mistrust of authority and "experts".Also, much of the chapters in any of his book are dedicated to intentionally misleading the reader in order to force said reader into performing the heinous task of thinking for themselves.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant tribute to a remarkable life.
Regardless of how you feel about the subject, this opus will guide you to a balanced understanding of the man known as the beast. Well written and incrediably researched, I never found the book dull and it allowed me the ability to make up my own mind as to how to view Crowley. Kaczynski understands what it is to be a writer of biography as you never feel any type prejudice or bias in his work, allowing the reader to form their own opinion of the subject. A rare feat and very much appreciated since Crowley is not an easy study and his life and achievements deserve a fair chance to be understood and studied under a balanced light.

5-0 out of 5 stars I very Highly recommend this Biography of Crowley
I thought I had reviewed this, long-ago. Perhaps, I hit the wrong button. I very Highly recommend this Biography of Crowley. This book led me to an English class project in college about Poets affiliated with occult orders, which will take me many years to research and finish.Kaczynski's fascinating portrayal of the life of Crowley and the famous (and infamous) people he was associated with is exciting reading. I could not put the book down. I treasure my signed copy, along with the rest of my research collection, but this Biography stands-out from many other Crowley bios because the Author has the collegiate background and Access to fully research the subject. His approach was very honest, even when not favorable to Crowley. It is good to read the other bios for different perspectives, but "Perdurabo" is the Crowley biography I always recommend most frequently, and at the "top of the list."

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't order this book!!
Unless you never really want to receive it. I ordered this book six months ago and just last week I was sent an email from Amazon saying that they were unable to fullfill my order. Now, I love Amazon and I understand that the book is out of print. But six months is a long time to be dragged through on this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Secrets of the Talking Jaguar
This book is such a pleasure to read and reread.... lots of food for thought about modern culture and alternative ways of living, about aging, about wisdom, about Mayan culture, and about seeing the challenges of life in humorous ways!

5-0 out of 5 stars beautiful & intelligent book
I give this book as a gift to everyone I know who has read Marlo Morgan's appalling book of lies about the Australian aborigines. Here is a story that actually HAPPENED, has none of the racial arrogance of many "new age" books where some rich whitey goes off and lives "with" the natives and grants them recognition. (Morgan's 'Mutant Message Downunder" has made +100 million, even though the woman made the whole thing up, stole a whole lot of religious symbols out of some anthropology journal that shouldn't have published them in the first place, stole the end sequence from a film called "Quigley Downunder", wrote absolutely absurd and stupid things about the Australian landscape and when the real aborigines demanded that she stop spreading lies and saying they want to die out and are no longer real aborigines, and to stop pretending she is the true guardian of their culture, she admitted the fraud, but her publishers sheltered her and told her to keep going.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant writing, laugh-out-loud humor, a touch of the supernatural
". . . Real magic doesn't come from achieving the perfect appearance, from being Cinderella at the ball with both glass slippers and a killer hairstyle. The real magic is in the pumpkin, in the mice, in the moonlight; not beyond ordinary life, but within it." - Martha Beck, Expecting Adam
5-0 out of 5 stars a wonderful exploration of life and living
Martha Beck has written a stunning memoir of her journey from driven Harvard grad student to delivering and parenting a child with Down's Syndrome. And yet, Beck's story and lessons apply far beyond pregnancy and having a child with Down's. She explores and challenges the premise of modern life, which is hurry up and constantly do more, without taking time to appreciate and enjoy. Her account is honest and insightful, making it all the more valuable as a vital life lesson. The loss of dreams and expectations, when faced and acknowledged, is transformative, and Beck openly shares the difficult and painful twists and turns that redefined her identity of wife, mother, and indeed even woman. She deftly weaves the love and joy Adam brings into the background of her life. Beck doesn't take the easy way out by proselytizing-instead, she openly admits the heartbreak of being judged and found wanting for choosing to continue her pregnancy when it was discovered that her son had Down's. This is thankfully not an anit-abortion story. It is the ultimate pro-choice testament-and what a testament it is. Beck has the courage to describe her struggle to move beyond reason and logic, which are innate to the Harvard culture, and reside comfortably with intuition and a sense of something bigger than the concrete, visible world.
3-0 out of 5 stars Went on too long...
Kinda felt like 9 mos. had passed while I read this book, she really could have used a better editor.I did learn a lot about Down's Syndrome from Ms. Beck, which was interesting.Got bored with the constant Harvard references--enough already. Was distracted *SPOILER* by what has happened to the Beck's since this book was written--both spouses have "come out" and live with same sex partners. How that all came about would be an interesting book to me. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars An Egotist's Mid-Life Crisis, Part One?
Here is this book in a nutshell: Shirley Maclaine, one-time Hollywood A-lister, finds herself in her early forties (during the mid-1970's) and as many people do upon reaching this hypothetical mid-point in life, Shirley Maclaine feels an inner motivation to seek out answers to humanity's heftiest questions. Does life have meaning? What happens when we die? Has she been on the right path? Is there a God? Is there anything beyond or outside the visible world? While all these are normal, natural, respectable inquiries that anyone with any substance surely makes at some point, the unfortunate fact is Maclaine asked these questions in the time and place she did---California in the '70's---and like the proverbial P.T. Barnum maxim about a you-know-what and his money, this financially-secure starlet soon fell into the clutches of a number of cons and frauds and fake "channelers" who filled her head with non-sense, even as they emptied her bank account. Toss into this retro-New Age tale a trek into the wilds of Peru, some asides about UFO's, an affair with a married British MP (later revealed to be a disguise for Swedish Prime Minister Olaf Palma) a friendship with what was surely an emotionally-scarred young man whose mental issues Maclaine confused with "depth" and you got it all. Maclaine is perhaps to be commended for her courage in presenting her experiences and newfound convictions before the public, and for clinging to her beliefs while being made fun of by those who do not hail the legitimacy of spirit channelers who charge mega-bucks for their services, but what it all comes down to is this: she asked good questions and got (expensive) bad answers in return

5-0 out of 5 stars Shirley Charlemaign
Adam and Eve is at it again.Great movie that summarizes all that we know to be real and doesn't pull any punches or spon the insanity of reality.

1-0 out of 5 stars poor demon-possessed Shirley
How sad that so many people have been fooled by a troubled woman who herself is being fooled by the demon spirits of the so-called New Age movement.

I didn't get the impression that the author was absolutely convinced of the things he wrote about, such as his psychic ability. He seems convinced and then he doesn't.It made me question his gift. The writer comes across as a nice guy, but he is no writing genius.Unless one is really interested in all he has to say, the writing tends to get boring.Sorry.

2-0 out of 5 stars A decent book about an interesting man
I had heard of Edgar Cayce before, mainly because I shelved so many books by or about him in my years as a bookseller. It was only recently, though, as I was browsing through one of the Stranger than... books by the late Frank Edwards that Icame across a brief biography of Edgar Cayce and learned more about his mysterious diagnoses given while unconscious. I remembered that I had this book, one of the Time-Life Collector's Library of the Unknown reprints, on my shelf and so I dug in.

Editorial Review

Known as the Camino, the Santiago de Compostela Camino is a famouspilgrimage that has been undertaken by people for centuries across northern Spain. It is saidthat this 500-mile path lies directly under the Milky Way and that it reflectsthe energy of the star systems above it. Facing her sixth decade of life onearth, writer and actor Shirley MacLaine decided to go on this trek. She wasn'tsure why, she only knew that the Camino had been traveled for thousands of yearsby "saints, sinners, generals, misfits, kings and queens. It is done by theintent to find one's deepest spiritual meaning and resolutions regardingconflicts in Self."Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Past-Life Pilgrimage
In the Nineties, Shirley MacLaine traveled to Spain to walk the pilgrimage trail that ends at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Along the way she experienced foot blisters, wild dogs, autograph hounds, paparazzi, and spiritual visions. These visions gave Ms. MacLaine glimpses of a past life as a Moorish girl during the time of Charlemagne. They also re-introduced her to an old friend and spiritual mentor, John the Scot, who took this opportunity to share some esoteric teachings.
1-0 out of 5 stars What a mistake- save your money
Well, I suppose there is something for everyone, but this book was not for me.I even question if someone could even write such a diluted, empty book based in ridiculous illusions of spirituality. In fact, it seemed that one of her top priorities was proving that at 60, young men are still attracted to her.Who cares?I personally feel that she never did the walk but bases her experiences in loose facts read elsewhere that consequently allow her to give the superficial appearance of having walked the ancient pilgrimage route.

Truth or fiction? History or fantasy? Biography or geography?
4-0 out of 5 stars Gurdjieff's First and Last Good Book
When I was in college in the late 70's, my small circle of friends were philosophers, shaman, and spiritualists... which really means, we liked to discuss amongst ourselves the deep meaning of it all, around bong hits and Budweiser. WARNING: Budweiser is BAD for you, and I no longer drink alcohol!!! One of these friends loaned "Meetings With Remarkable Men"to me, and it made a lasting impression, just as David Carradine did in the TV series "Kung Fu", which kicked off the kung fu - Buddhist - Shaolin - Taoist journey for Americans, more than Bruce Lee was able to accomplish (Bruce Lee was all about martial arts, and didn't have a whole lot to offer the spiritually thirsty. His lack of dimension was his failing). Anyway, we sat around, smoking and drinking, discussing, and watching "Circle of Iron", and formulating the shape of civilization to come.
1-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps I'm confused
I'm not sure.Maybe it's because I'm not a Gurdjieff follower or studier, but this particular book seemed like it was written by the founder of the Ego Strokers Anonymous Club.Throughout, Gurdjieff doesn't talk as much about other remarkable men as how remarkable he himself is in these meetings with these others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart warming journey through a psychic life...
I have just finished reading Dr. Judith Orloff's book Second Sight where she chronicles early life confusion and bewilderment regarding her intuitive/psychic capability. Then, in the end, Dr. Orloff leads us to her full acceptance of herself, these gifts, and ways. Today, she incorporates her intuitive sense into her role as a psychiatrist. It should be noted that Dr. Orloff is board-certified. It should also be noted that an individual cannot become a psychiatrist without first becoming a medical doctor. It is this groundedness, this knowledge of healing in all its facets Dr. Orloff brings to her own healing through sharing with us her evolution in Second Sight.
5-0 out of 5 stars An honest and moving autobiographical work, with good tips.
Dr. Orloff is a really good writer. What makes this book so interesting, aside from her rather brutal honesty and candor about self and others in her personal life, is her reconciliation of the scientific with the metaphysical/intuitive.She has harmonized these orientations in such a way as to show that they are not at all dichotomous. In other words, one helps and augments the other.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Story
In Second Sight, Judith Orloff, M.D. takes us to the heart and soul of her search to validate her psychic gifts. This gifted writer and healer shares her story, and gentle spirit as she becomes a psychiatrist, to give credibility to her psychic work.

4-0 out of 5 stars An NDE and Paranormal Experiences
Kimberly Clark Sharp writes a personal memoir about her near death experience at the age of 22 and all the things that take place afterwards. Paranormal and spirtual happenings follow her life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Jeff G - London
A very easy read - full of humour and personal experience, but at the same time insightful and thought provoking.
3-0 out of 5 stars If you want a more structured answer to your questions
This book of personal NDE experiences and the effect on the author's life is like many others and while they may give you some solace and comfort they don't answer many questions. The best books that I've found that give you a structured view of what your existence is like when you are not occupying a human body will be found in the works of Michael Newton - Journey of Souls and Destiny of Souls. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I was saddened
A vital perspective on Roberts and the Seth Material; I see now, as I had only glimpsed in the Seth books, how compulsively disciplined Jane and Rob were--very far from Seth's ideas about spontaneity--how severe their lives were, in terms of diet and overall lifestyle, although not in a classical "spiritual" way (obviously they drank and smoked, for example); how much more important was Jane's view of herself as a writer, than as a psychic.I'd never have guessed that Sue didn't like Jane's poetry much, something she apparently didn't have the nerve to write while Jane lived.
2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing
As I delved into the Seth works, I started wondering just who Jane Roberts was.Since this 'memoir' was the only book on her I could find, I bought it despite iffy reviews.Well, I have to say that although it was a quick read, it is an awful book and a real letdown since I really wanted to know about Jane's life.
