Extremely helpful genealogical tool.
Thanks to these volumes I was able obtain a great of information on my French-Canadian ancestors corroborating material I had found before and filling some missing blanks.

"Our French-Canadian Ancestors" by Thomas J. Laforest is an excellent resource on the early French Canadian history.It includes genealogical information of the early settlers and a little about thelifestyle of about 20 different families.It's got a great historicalreference about the King's Daughters.I was fortunate enough to find manyconnecting links to a family tree of my ancestors.Excellent resource tobegin a collection of French Canadian information.

This series offers a very readable translation of the original FrenchCanadian-language series, adding drawings, historical briefs and appendicesthat are especially of interest to American-born descendents of Quebec'spioneer families. For history buffs, this series also offers insights intothe motivations of New France's immigrants and portrays highlights of dailylife, social activities and civil actions among the colonists. Some of theprofiles were prepared by family historians, who often wrote longer workson the same subject. My ancestor, Jean Le Brodeur, is featured in Chapter13 by Clement Brodeur of Quebec. The information is valuable on its ownmerits and as a starting point for further research. Most French Canadiandescendents are related to many of the persons portrayed in this series,due to the close-knit society and intermarriages among relatively fewfamilies. Flawed
We learn nothing new in this book.The book blames everyone but the actual person who really killed the Meech Lake Accord, i.e. Robert Bourassa.Did anyone oppose Meech before the Quebec premier invoked the notwithstanding clause of the constitution?No.The book also tries to support the myth that he was some kind of political genius; a master strategist.The bottom line? Everything he did blew up in his face.Bill 22?Lost the 1976 election because of it.Bill 178?Meech Lake.The rest of Canada should have just ignored him and gone about its own business.Save your money and buy another book. ...
