2-0 out of 5 stars More of an ad blitz than a teach yourself rapid reading.
Picked this book up with an interest in increasing my reading speed, but was disappointed when the book turned out to be one big ad for the Evelyn Wood Speed Reading Courses. Most of the book was devoted to informing the reader how fast and efficiently they could study, and how successful their courses are. There was very little instruction and what was there was vague. The book ended up being of negligible help to my reading speed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read over and over until you get it.
Every junior high, high school, and college student should read this book. It takes lots of practice to learn how to do it proficiently but once you've got it figured out you'll love how fast you can read and how well you can retain the information.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nice paperweight
I read this book because it claimed to help increase reading by 50%.I thought that I was a strong reader.I read about 230 words per minute.Well, after reading this book, I read about 250 words per minute.20 words wasn't worth it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book I wish everyone to read
This is a unique book, though written to help become financially independent, the principles may be used to help achieve anything you may want to have in life or want to become.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good. But not the best of Napoleon Hill's CDs
This is a good CD. I own it and have listened to it a few times. Earl Nightingale gives a clear summary of Think and Grow Rich. To me, Napoleon Hill is the greatest success author/speaker ever and Think and Grow Rich is the single greatest book I have ever read. However, a part of this particular CD feels like an advertisement and could have been skipped. Also, the editorial reviews and the narrator of this CD talk about 13 principles. This could sometimes be the cause of confusion. Hill organized 13 Steps Toward Riches (in Think and Grow Rich) and 17 Principles of Personal Achievement (in his courses and lectures), also referred to as 17 Keys to Success. This CD talks about the 13 Steps in T&GR.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good place to start reading about leadership
Leadership books remind me of cooking, there are a finite number of common ingredients that make up the majority of dishes, but there seems to be an infinite number of ways to combine and present these ingredients.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not so innovative
Maxwell's concepts of what a leader is is quite accurate. However, I don't think he needed to spend over 200 pages to define what a leader is.That's what this book came to be: one long, repetitive, obvious definition for leadership.I didn't see these as laws so much as nuances of what he'd already said.
5-0 out of 5 stars Begin Here
If you've never read anything by John Maxwell, then you should. And this is the best place to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Find out what type of person you are when confronted with change.
This book can identify to all categories of people and how they react to change.I think at some point I have played all roles when someone has moved my cheese.I think I should read this book on an annual basis to remind myself of which mouse I would like to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars Confrontational, enlightening but too simple
This book uses two mice and two little people who look like mice to make a serious point. How do you respond to change? In Who Moved My Cheese?, we see those who immediately seek a new viable option, those who move forward only when a situation is life threatening, and those who refuse to budge.Isn't this what we see in everyday life?My biggest concern about this book is that the question provided to deal with the fear that stops us from moving forward is "What would I do if I wasn't afraid?" This is an example of repressive coping, and does not deal with the reason for the fear, and does not resolve the fear.To learn how to best deal with troublesome feelings that stop us from making the most of our lives,I recommend Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self.I recommend each of these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good slap in the face!
This book is an excellent quick read for everyone. The analogies utilized remind people how to properly, and improperly deal with change and are superb.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb!
This is the best book I have read in regards to successful business. If you work in the corporate world, this is a must read.It is based on five years of research, and the author doesn't try to prove anything other than that which the facts prove.I am reading it for the fourth time now and draw more from it each time.Again, a must read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good to Great review from Steven Vornea
Every single person needs to read this book and just buy it! This book can be a life changer for people.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best business books out there
Jim Collins puts forward one of the great concepts in business...and in life...that getting the right people in the right situations is the best staple of great leadership.Collins' message can be applied to any situation (business, sports, education, etc.).He has an engaging writing style and uses a wide variety of companies to illustrate his central theme of leadership as leading to great success.Collins also illustrates the great importance of a humble leader, one who gives of him/herself for the betterment of the system as a whole. This was a fascinating read, and you will close the book with a great deal of insight into how you run both your professional and personal life.A terrific, terrific read.In fact, I have gone back and begun to read Built to Last, which is actually the prequel to Good to Great.I honestly could not recommend this book more than I do. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Take work from your strengths
A fantastic book of weekness and strength, a human being is a mixture of weekness and strength equally and those among us who take work with thier strength come out successful regardless of the profession they are involve in, they can focus on thier strength rather than weakness, positive attitude regardless all the adversaries of a life. I learned a great deal out of this Marcus Buckingham book and I strongly recommend to the book lovers don't miss this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Novel Concept
By:Jeffrey W. Bennett, Founder of LayMentor and author of Under the Lontar Palm.
2-0 out of 5 stars Ok~ but I think the Keirsey Temperment Test is more accurate - and cheaper.
This book has its good points. If anything, it helps you put into words what you wantfrom a supervisor, but it is not very accurate. The online test does not account for a difference between when 2 of their options are both exactly like you, or if they don't describe you at all. This messes up the results, and it did not describe me very well. I am not just in denial. I have taken a lot of personality type tests, like the Keirsey Temperment sorter and have a pretty good idea of my strengths. So, although this book is pretty good in making you understand the importance of incouraging your strengths, it still leaves you wondering about how you fit in to their terminology.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Aladdin factor
A pretty good book.I expected a "how-to" book, but was pleasantly surprised. The book is mostly anecdotes but really helps you focus, and lets you apply the "lessons learned" yourself.A very enjoyable read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Aladdin Factor
Bottom line is ASK, ASK, ASK for what you want. It's amazing how many people are afraid to ask for what they want or don't even think of it!
5-0 out of 5 stars Asking is a good thing
I hate to ask for help, I have an aversion to it.And being a strong individual has helped me, but it has also hindered me.The Aladdin Factor changed my life in the first three chapters.I realized why I don't ask for help, how that is hindering me, and how to change it.In the first week I began putting the principles into action and wow, I asked and I received. It has been amazing.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Collection of condescending cliches stressing the obvious
I found this book (I listened to the audio version) to be a major disappointment. The tips offered by Carnegie may have appeared insightful and provocative to assembly line supervisors back in the 1930s, but in the more enlightened 21st century a lot of his "good advice" comes across as irritatingly simplistic and sometimes even downright condescending and offensive. It's so easy and straightforward: Be nice to people, remember their first names, always be positive and you will instantly be liked by everyone. Overly obvious and trite - hardly the kind of stuff that would find its way into today's Harvard Business Review. Adding to the sense of irritation is the voice of the reader who tries to sound upbeat and optimistic, giving the whole performance the hollow feel of amateurish propaganda better suited to "Pleasantville" than to "Wall Street".
4-0 out of 5 stars Back to Basics
This little book is recommended reading in the company I currently work for and unlike some of the other recommendations, Fish and Moving My Cheese for instance, this has some value.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great "Beginners Guide"--Well Worth It.
As a 20 year veteran business consultant I strongly recommend this one because it presents the "meat and potatoes" of leadership.I personally am tired of all the "fad" books out there trying to put a spin on leadership when what is important are the essential skills of leadership. This book captures those skills and is great for a new leader.

1-0 out of 5 stars If you want to become a great boss, don't read this
Fox uniquely attempts to give suggestions on how to keep the best employees. Fox divides his book into fifty short stories that sometimes include a real life situation. Many of his anecdotes have serious flaws in the basic principles of Organizational Behavior, while others do not fully explain how to handle potential problems. There are instances where his suggestions can be very useful in becoming a good manager. At other times, his stories have good concepts, but do have loopholes.

Since 1987, Starbucks's star has been on the rise, growing from 11 Seattle, WA-based stores to more than 1,000 worldwide. Its goals grew, too, from the more modest, albeit fundamental one of offering high-quality coffee beans roasted to perfection to, more recently, opening a new store Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Marketing Master, yes. Quality Coffee roaster.....Now he's full of ____!
Being a specialty roaster since 1975 and being part of a local specialty roaster group. I can tell you that starbuck's main accomplishment is their marketing ability. The coffee they distribute is garbage, and this doesn't have to come from my mouth, it comes from people who come to me after tasting their supposed "specialty coffee."Starbucks lost their specialty status the moment you could find them on every street corner and/or supermarket. Where they beat most is their non stop advertising and brainwashing of people. The reason starbucks got big was because there was noone around to fill that demand, or more importantly, due to the nature of the specialty market, noone who wanted to fill that position. The amount of coffee they are forced to produce lead to only one scenario, inferior quality.Concepts of mass production. Economics 101. The higher the demand, the less likely quality is to have influence.

5-0 out of 5 stars How Starbucks changed the World
What a great read! This is a story of how Starbucks changed the world. Howard Schultz, the CEO, tells the history of Starbucks starting with its founding in 1971 up until 1999. Schultz tells how he came on board, later bought the company and its sky-roacketing growth.

4-0 out of 5 stars simple and fun
Caps for Sale is a delightful tale that is simple but with the right amount of absurdity that kids love. The repetition of words and the copycat element (when the monkeys imitate the peddler's actions)is entertaining for very young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funner than I even remembered!
In searching reviews to find great books, I struggled to remember if I liked this one as a kid!I remembered the cover, but not the story! When it came, I was delighted to find that I loved the story, and my son has a NEW favorite book!He grins ear to ear as soon as the peddler wakes up from his nap and discovers only one hat left on his head.My 20 month olddoesn't sit still from that point on in the story. He crouches so as to make monkey gestures and sounds. He wags his finger and says "tsk tsk tsk" just like the monkeys! He stomps his feet and waves his arms just like the monkeys! The monkeys are so mischievous, and I think my son relates! LOL!All in all, the little copycat monkeys throw their hats down to the peddler when he gets angry enough at their taunting to throw his hat down on the ground! It is very cute. There isn't variety in the illustrations as the same vintage colors are used on every page, but the story is so strong that I have to give this one 5 stars!Enjoy!I still do!

"Caps for Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina is a marvelous children's book. An ingenious plot that I remember from my childhood. Now I am enjoying it again with my children. I was always fascinated by how he balanced those hats. The illustrations are quite simple but intriguing. Just looking at Pezzo with all those hats piled one on top of another is more interesting than many of the high tech special effects I have seen in today's movies. Sometimes the simple way is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!
The complete "Unleash Your Power Within" 6 cassette set is not easy to come by.Unlike some of Robbin's programs that require a stricter format, the 'Unleash' program allows you to excel at your own pace (bit by bit or all at once).

4-0 out of 5 stars Strategically brilliant.
In order to become a market leader you must choose what kind of customers you want to serve, and design your operating model to fulfill the chosen customer value, while maintaining appropriate standards in the other two customer values.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read for Customer Perspective in Balanced Scorecard
This book's concepts for strategic marketing management are so widely accepted that the popular Balanced Scorecard concept of Kaplan and Norton in 2001 decided to adopt the ideas for the "customer perspective".
5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for the sales and marketing folks!
This business book should be in EVERY marketing and sales professional's library. In one reading of less than four hours you can understand the distinct value disciplines that define your company. And, just as important, you can recognize the value disciplines of your customers and competition. But, you don't have to be strictly a sales person. I'm my company's Chief Technology Officer and I felt the book was very valuable - after my CEO made me read it!Read more
