4-0 out of 5 stars The best book ever
Actually I had the previous version of this book and after reviewing other comments, I decided that the previous version would be more than enough for me. What I want to share with you here is how I succeeded from 540 to 740.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Tool
This book has many practice problems, but the overall review of the materials is lacking. If you aren't up to scratch on the math and verbal already, you should consider spending on some other review materials. Make sure you time yourself while doing the problems -- timing isKEY. I used this book along with Princeton's Verbal Workout. It worked out.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Official SAT study Guide
Any student preparing to take the SAT should not go with out this book. The Book provides accurate practice test created by the Test makers (ETS). But don't count on this book to give you excellent review. Review for the SAT is very brief. also this book is no good without the solutions manual which you could buy on amazon. so without the soulutions manual you won't be doing anything but just taking the practice test and not knowing where you went wrong. anyways good luck!

4-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for your SAT prep; but no accurate diagnostic tools
Official materials are always the most important for the SAT, and this is currently the only source available for authentic SAT questions. The questions and essay topics contained in this book give a nice overview of what an SAT-taker will see on test day, so it would be wise to complete and review as many questions as you can in this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Improved My Score by 130 Points in 2 Weeks
I only had 2 weeks to study for the GMAT.I bought three books to help me, all of which were highly rated on Amazon. They were:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Inside Scoop
No short (even at 560 large pages plus a CD) book is going to replace what you should have learned over many years of classwork. You should know the basic rules in English, mathematics and the rest. Instead, this book concentrates on the testing aspects: what areas does the test cover, how is it administered, what is the format of the test, things like that.
4-0 out of 5 stars It's OKbut it's not enough
Although I liked the way the authors went through and reviewed the topics I needed for the exam, I did not execute most of their strategies during the actual exam.

4-0 out of 5 stars All in all, it's worth a read
Eric Bischoff: Controversy Creates Cash is the autobiography of Eric Bischoff, who rightfully self boasts himself as the second most influential man in professional wrestling history, behind Vince McMahon. In his autobiography, he attempts to cover his side of the things. Although he does tell an interesting story, some things just seem to be missing.
3-0 out of 5 stars Bischoff doesn't tell all
I was expecting to read about Bischoff criticizing many WCW and WWE wrestlers because, if you've ever seen WWE Raw during a commercial break, Bischoff runs down a list of people in the wrestling industry who he believes will be angry with him when these certain people read his book.I don't think so.His opinions on the wrestlers are pretty brief and he doesn't do much in the way of putting down anyone.Disappointing.
4-0 out of 5 stars Well Written Read With A Lot Of Information
You learn a lot about Eric Bischoff and what has driven him. This book shows the side of him that we don't see in front of the camera. The information about the wrestling industy and the politics of it were very fascinating to someone who has been a fan for many years (particularly a fan of WCW).

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Supplement to the Official Guide
There isn't much in this book to distinguish it from the verbal portion of The Official Guide for GMAT Review, but that's ok: if there's one thing GMAT students need, it's practice questions that look and feel just like the ones on the test. While the questions in the Quantitative Review book are somewhat easier than in the Official Guide, that isn't the case (to the same degree, anyway) with the verbal, so I can recommend this to just about anybody.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This is an excellent book with the real GMAT questions. It explains all the questions and answers and also explain why a particular answer is correct. Till now, this is the best GMAT practice book I've seen. Anyone preparing for GMAT needs to have this book

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Additional Book for Math Problems
I bought this book with the understanding that it was not a study guide. This book should be only used as an additional aid for the math section of the GMAT.This book has really great sample questions that are very similar to the questions that you will see when you take the GMAT.This booked coupled with a GMAT Review study guide, such as the books offered by the Princeton Review makes an awesome combo.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good if you need to review your math
This book is very good if you only need to review the math part for the GMAT.I would recommend for a few more dollars to get the bigger book that covers all sections. It has the same amount of math questions as the Analytical one has.

3-0 out of 5 stars Nothing's better than test-like practice
This book is slimmer than the orange Official Guide, weighing in at about 300 problems, but if you need more math practice, it's a great resource. One caveat: the average difficulty level of questions in this book is somewhat lower than that of the questions in the Official Guide. If you're already getting a 650 or better on practice tests, or if you are comfortable with the vast majority of math problems in the Official Guide, go ahead and skip this one. If you're not yet at that level, this is an excellent supplement to the orange book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful, Refreshing Child Development Book
Finally, a book that offers sensible and realistic approaches to child development which departs from "mythical" ideas of past and archaic culture. Luckily, this volume isn't afraid to address the homogenous fallacies that have plagued our society and discusses significantly the exploration of truly modern theories embraced around the world. People of all walks of life, education, and backgrounds will rejoice in an important concept that this book teaches: genuinely nurturing children as opposed to treating them like pets.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the Best
Beginnings and Beyond is still the best Early Childhood Education text out there.

1-0 out of 5 stars Moral people beware
If you have a conservative, moral or Christian bone in your body, this book will sicken you beyond your wildest imagination. If you fall into any of the above described categories, then this book will classify you as a "European male," or of "European Ancestory".This book preaches strongly a so called "diversity" but if you are a white male the "diversity" of opinions stops.(unless of course you decide to agree with the author.)And if you are a Catholic, you have even more to digest, as the book reaks of anti-Catholicism. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Practical & Informative
The title of this book pretty much spells it out: Dr. Sousa explains how brains learn.Considering the subject, the text is very readable--enough to recommend this book to anyone who wants an understanding of how we are able to retain information. It covers the entire gamut, from the basics of biology to the subtler aspects of the active mind.
5-0 out of 5 stars Educator-friendly
This book is an excellent resource for educators. It is easily adapted to classroom use no matter what level is being taught.Great insights to hemisphere preference, transfer, critical thinking, teaching strategies.Even the biology and physiology is palatable. This book would lend itself well as a resource for inservicing teachers with its many practioner's corner activities.I recently read Jensen's Teaching With the Brain in Mind and, while I found that book to be a good one, this book if FAR more useful.Every teacher will find easily adapted activities to put to immediate use.Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic!
A book designed to be used. It offers both theory and practice. There are fifty plus pages of practical suggestions: including "Testing Whether Information Is in Long-Term Storage," and "Using the Primacy-Regency Effect in the Classroom." It also contains a glossary, an eleven page bibliography (with five internet site references), and a three page index. A well balanced 305 page classic. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars This book grew on me (slightly)...
This book was an assigned text for a seminary class, which is the only reason that I read it.I have a degree in secondary education, so I spent considerable time during college studying these types of concepts, though the terminology in this book was new to me.I began this book with a chip on my shoulder about the psychobabble that seems to dominate many discussions about pedagogy, and she certainly reinforced several of those irritations. For instance, she spent considerable time describing the futility of lecture.I realize that lecture has significant limitations, but I think it is a silly overgeneralization to disregard its potential entirely.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good for new educators
When you are teaching a class of adults, do you find yourself wondering if the class is getting the information?Do you wonder if you are talking too much? These are questions for all adult educators, and this book is a good first start. It teaches the use of learning tasks rather than lectures.4-0 out of 5 stars an important book for all training professionals
I think this book is a must for all people working in the field of adult education. Jane Vella has a unique way to give new life to old concepts, and to make us rediscover the basic principles to be used when designing and leading trainings. The concept of learning task Vella offers into this book it's a powerful tool for creating learning experiences that are going to make a difference in partecipant's life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for eLearning Designers and Reviewers
With many years of experience in building eLearning and educational software I was looking for a reference to back up my "I know it when I see it" thoughts on good and bad courseware. This book met or exceeded my expectations. I like that the chapters are shorter and that the observations are backed up with study results. The References section is a valuable collection of eLearning studies in itself. There are also useful checklists included with the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book that every person in this field need to use
e-Learning and the Science of Instruction is a must have for anybody that is already a pro, or just starting out at designing web-based instruction. The authors give outstanding guidance for every step of the way, from explaining theories to the best way to set up your web site.It shows excellent illustrations of what to do, as well as what NOT to do.This book is a tool that every one in the business shouldn't be without.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent practical book for practitioners
I have been designing and developing e-Learning for 6 years and this book has been wonderful to help remind me of some basics, teach me a few things, and give excellent practical advice as I continue developing.I am not one to read textbooks or non-fiction but I find this writing style very easy to read and I am able to easily apply the concepts. If you have never developed e-Learning but are studying the topic in school, this book may come across as dry and hard to read.Hold on to it and pick it up after you've been developing for a year or so and I'm sure you'll find it as useful as I have. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I got into my first choice program with this
In the fall of 2003, I applied to 7 top PhD programs in my field (in the sciences), including the 5 best.Although I had graduated from the top Ivy League university, I had worked for 5 years and wasn't sure how I'd present myself to the graduate programs.I had reasonably good GRE scores, but all of my recommendations were from industry, so I needed to massage my personal statement to reflect strong industrial experience.
4-0 out of 5 stars To someone who wants to apply graduate school
Summarize the important information from graduate school! To student who wants to apply graduate school, especially for non english speaking students. Author has good sense of humor. He also gives us key points in applying schools and how the schools cope with different students' application.

3-0 out of 5 stars Working on the Work
After reading the reviews given to this book, it is obvious to me who are the ones who were told to read the book and who are the ones who were asked to read it as well as offered support with the content. It is just like our students. If we just say "read the book", how engaging is that?If we are given the support to utilize the theory, the book makes much more sense. So, I can understand both ways of seeing the book.I, fortunately, am in a district where we were asked to look into this program (which is really what Working on the Work is) and decide if we would like to use it, as a district. We first, though, were given the opportunity to attend a conference where the presenter was from the Schlechty school. This was where the "practicality" came from. The reviewers are correct in that the book does not give those practical, concrete examples and studies we, as teachers, crave for our own learning. But, that is exactly the point of the program. How can we make our tasks as engaging as we are?The standards at the back of the book are going to be the most useful for teachers. Those are how you structure a lesson to be most engaging. So, I highly recommend that if you get this book that you pair it with some kind of support or research, so that the practical part can be understood along with the theory.

4-0 out of 5 stars Working on the Work
The thesis of the author, offer students work that is meaningful and engaging, is a paradigm shift. The usual way of improving students' experience in the classroom is to offer professional development seminars to teachers so that they might become better educators. However, Schlechty shifts the focus away from improving instruction to working on the work that we require students to do.
1-0 out of 5 stars Edu-speak
This is the sort of book school administrators love and teachers hate. It's long on vague, lofty sounding goals and absolutely no specifics to help teachers get there. What teacher wouldn't want to be more engaging?Who wouldn't want to inspire their students?Simply stating "be more engaging" doesn't get a teacher there any more than the teacher telling their student to "be smarter".But admin types love Schlechty's program. It puts the burden on the teacher to "work smarter, not harder...", "work the work" and "be more engaging and entertaining",and absolves students, parents and administrators from any responsibility for student improvement.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Framework for Leadership in Todays World
During a time of rapid change and so-called leadership gurus, Michael Fullan draws from a wealth of research, case study scenarios, and theory to present an interconnected framework of five capacities for leadership which are relevant in today's world. These five components include moral purpose, understanding change, relationship building, knowledge creation and sharing, and coherence making. When effective leaders possess characteristics of energy-enthusiasm-hopefulness and practice the five components, one can expect the outcome that "more good things happen" and "fewer bad things happen."5-0 out of 5 stars Leading with Clarity
In this book, Fullan integrates theory, research, case studies, and anecdotes to flesh out the dynamics of effective leadership in this post-modern era of complexity, interconnectedness, and rapid (often transformational) technological and social change. He identifies and elaborates on the five components of leadership, which can affect sustainable change: Moral purpose, understanding change, relationship building, knowledge creation and sharing, and coherence making.Fullan sees leadership as a process that all organizational stakeholders, who strive for survival and improvement in a competitive and complex world, need to embrace.Drawing from Heifetz (Leadership Without Easy Answers, 1994), Fullan stakes out new territory for change agents: "Leadership, then, is not mobilizing others to solve problems we already know how to solve, but to help them confront problems that have never yet been successfully addressed." (p.3)5-0 out of 5 stars No recipe, but a new mind-set
In an increasingly complex and fast-changing world, we cannot just rely on charismatic leaders to solve our problems. We need to cultivate leadership at all levels of any organization, business or education, "to face problems for which there are no simple, painless solutions" (p.3). Instead of prescribing recipes of set steps for leaders, Fullan gives a framework or new mind-set of 5 themes or capacities. Figure 1.1 (p.4) gives a clear image of the non-linear interacting components: the inner pie of moral purpose (acting with the intention of making a positive difference), understanding change, relationship building, knowledge creation and sharing, and coherence making. It is surrounded by an outer rim of the personal characteristics of leaders: "energy-enthusiasm-hopefulness". Effective leaders thus mobilize commitment, both external (based on management policies) and internal (getting a job done is intrinsically rewarding). The aim or outcome of leadership is to make sure that "more good things happen" and "fewer bad things happen" defined according to different contexts. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on the Subject (... and I read a lot)
I read a lot of books about MBA admissions.Your MBA Game Plan was the shortest, simplest ... and by far, the best!
2-0 out of 5 stars Too basic, Montauk is much better
This book is simply too short and generic to be of use. As an applicant, I can confidently say that the Montauk book ("How to get into the top MBA Programs") is much more comprehensive and overall better. If you want more specific info on the top programs (i.e. so you can tailor your essays or prepare for interviews), complement Montauk with "ABC of Getting the MBA Admissions Edge". Although at first blush "Your MBA Game Plan" aims to cover both the fundamentals, like Montauk, and the specifics like "ABC", it falls short on both counts. The only good thing about this book (compared to the other two) is that it is small and light, so easy to carry anywhere :)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview
The book is what it says it is. Interesting tips and facts about the ideal strategy to get into an MBA. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for passing the exam
Knowledge on Project Management comes purely from practical experience. However the professional certifications matters a lot. To pass the exam, probably this is THE ONLY best book in the market. However if you want to learn project management, then sorry !!! - you are on the wrong web page dude !!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I passed the PMP test on my first try on September 25th 2006. My preparation material:
5-0 out of 5 stars The Best PMP Prep
Thanks in large part to this book and other Rita Mulcahy products, I passed the PMP certification test yesterday. I purchased the PMP Exam Prep Book, PMP FASTrack, as well as Test Tactics Numbers 1 and 2 (1 is better than 2). They were all very, very helpful, and the best of all the study aids I used. Questions at the end of each chapter in the book are similar to the actual test questions. Of course you will need to read, read, read the PMBOK as well as other material. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Looking for Help with Assessment
This book is an excellent resource for someone trying to understand how good assessment works. It is very easy to understand, provides lots of examples and doesn't try to confuse the reader by using excessive education jargon.A very good buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners
If your college is just beginning institutional assessment, then this is the book for you. It has several talking points that will allow faculty and the administration to join together in the task. Overall, I enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very practical, highly usable
This is a great introduction to the assessment process with chapters specifically for departments and general education. The appendices include sample forms and processes for all types of assessment. A great practical resource for anyone responsible for creating an institutional or departmental assessment program. I know at my institution, faculty and administrators have been looking for something like this that can give them a concrete process for doing assessment. If you have only one book on assessment, this should be it.Other books fill in more about the theory and why, but the theory and why are nothing without implementation. ...
