5-0 out of 5 stars Best Introductory book for Quantitative Finance
Hull is the one stop shop for learning (and using as a reference once you have learnt "it") almost any topic in Quant Finance. This book really has it all - options, interest rate models, volatility modeling, credit derivatives, you name it. However, use it as an introductory book - learn the main concepts from here and then move on to advanced books. As a current student of quant finance, I find Hull's book to be indispensable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for quants new to finance
I recently entered the field of quantitative finance from physics, and this book has been by far the best resource as both a learning tool and reference. Its bredth of coverage is outstanding, covering topics as simple as bond yields and zero rates, to sophsticated libor market models, weather derivatives, bermudan swaptions, etc. While a bit wordy at times, Hull does present all the mathematics in a tractible manner.Books with more mathematical sophistication, such as Brigo & Mercurio, while interesting, are far less useful on the trading floor.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference book for all options traders
This book has it all with the strategies outlined in a very concise manner. Not only is every strategy listed with a nice synopsis of each one, an example of a trade is listed on every one. Also, every advantage and disadvantage of each strategy along with an exit strategy should the trade start to turn south. The nice thing about it, is it is so easy to look up a strategy you might want to try without having to comb through the entire book. And each one is listed by type of investor, aggressive, income, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference
A no-nonsense, no-introductory-material reference library of option strategies. Cross-referenced by goal, risk tolerance, strategy type, name, and more. Herein one easily can find each strategy described with its theoretical outcomes, its benefits, and its drawbacks. Order entry and exit procedures and Greeks also accompany each strategy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great book that teaches
So many financial books are hard to follow. The author usually gives a vauge idea of what they do to make money in the market. The process is given in easy to read examples of what you do if you think (A) is going to happpen you do this (B).

If you read and follow the principles in this book you will make enough money on your trades to pay for this book many times over. I have been active in the market for years (Averaging <20% return a year) and I agree with this author completely having lived out the greed, fear, and mistakes he talks about.Read this book and save yourself a lot of unnecessary losses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique Approach
I finished "Entries & Exits" (Actually, I read it twice) and enjoyed it on so many levels. It was a great opportunity for insight into a diverse group of traders and I was especially struck by the unique blend of methods used by this group of successful traders. What is consistent is the commitment to personal growth, independent thinking, and seeing trading as a business with both fascinating and mundane aspects as with most businesses. The interviews with Sherry and Diane struck a chord as so few women make it into print in the trading literature.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great look at a diverse group of traders
In my opinion this is by far the best of Elder's three trading books. To really enjoy it, however, I believe you'd have to be at least somewhat familiar with Elder's trading style, and reading one of his earlier books would probably be a good precursor to exploring this one. This book consists of sixteen interviews of professional or aspiring to be professional traders. Some, like Gerald Appel (inventor of MACD) are very well known, and some are relative novices to the craft. But all are serious about their work. They have accounts of various sizes (from "small" of less than 250k to "large" of over 1m), come from all over the world, trade different markets, and have methods that range widely, though all are TA (technical analysis) based.I really have to give Dr. Elder credit for selecting such a wide range of trading styles and personalities-far too many to detail here.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!
I personally has been trading for the last 6 years and I have been using Elder first book " Trading for Living" as a basis of my trading trait. This book reconfirms what I had been learning so far and strategies on this book had further advance my techniques.

4-0 out of 5 stars Technical Analysis Made Easy
This is an easy guide to technical analysis of the markets. It could be compared to the Edwards and Magee book on technical analysis. It has lots of illustrations showing many examples of all the items that are covered in this book and there are a lot.
5-0 out of 5 stars TA's "Must have" Book
A "must have" book to those who will venture in Technical Analysis.Considered to be the "Bible"...You cant go wrong with this one!!! an A+++

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic Introduction to Technical Analysis
I am not going to write a review defending or attacking the practice of technical analysis, which is roughly defined as the use of historic trading data, especially prices, volume, and open interest, usually visually displayed as charts, in order to predict future prices of securities, currencies, and commodities. If you believe in pure market efficiency or fundamental analysis only, you're not interested in technical analysis and should stop reading right here.If you are interested in technical analysis, this is an excellent place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is absolutely awesome
I hesitated writing a review for this book because I didn't want people to be drawn to it and therefore increase their understanding of options trading. However it looks like alot of other people already have written there review so I'll add my two cents worth.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Options Bible
This is the essential book for aspiring options traders. It is written in easy to understand language from a practitioner's perspective, as opposed to an academic's perspective. Nevertheless, a run down of the mathematics for the theoretical models is provided in the appendix.

3-0 out of 5 stars A mediocre followup to Trading for a Living
I should probably begin by stating that I've read Elder's first book, Trading for a Living, and found it interesting but not groundbreaking. While it had some interesting concepts and had some great technical advice, the book did not revolutionize me as a trader. This book is more of the same with a little more added toward the end.In it Elder essentially restates what he taught in his first book, tweaks it a little (but not enough to justify buying another book), and then shows a few handpicked trades of his and attempts to demonstrate his theory in action.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Basis
Having been through many authors/gurus this is very simply the
2-0 out of 5 stars Not for Short-Term Trading
I am glad that Elder recognizes that applying his concepts to short-term trading, such as daytrading, is much harder than applying them to a longer time horizon.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Explained Option Strategies
This is an excellent book.It has a logical progression and thoroughly describes option strategies from the conservative to the aggressive. My only suggestion to enhance the book's practicality would be to have an appendix showing profit and loss worksheets for each strategy. His website, The Option Strategist, has some useful option market commentary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nitty-gritty street smarts for options traders
"McMillan on Options" is a rare kind of book, and one of the very best.Especially revealing are the discussions in Chapter 4, "The Predictive Power of Options", on how certain patterns of option trading volume and implied volatility can be tip-offs to insider activity and sharp moves in the underlying stock, and on how to take practical advantage of such patterns. The chapters on trading systems and on how to trade volatility and the volatility skew were also well written and useful to the active options trader. All in all, I would recommend this book to anyone seriously contemplating getting involved in the options game.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exercise your option and buy this book!
As a ROP (registered Options principal) I feel I am uniquely qualified to review this book. First, understand that Larry McMillan is considered by many to be the best options mind on Wall Street (sorry Bernie Schaeffer). His knowledge of this less-than-logical derivative investment is the equivalent of Alan Greenspan’s knowledge of the economy.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
It is most refreshing to find a book that discloses the less than glamorous side of Forex trading. The percentage of people who consistently win is very small but this is the case with all businesses, not just trading. The information discussed in this book is precisely the kind of information that makes the difference between those seeking fast wealth who then drop out a few months later, and those who persevere and are able to stack the odds in their favor. Forex trading is indeed a matter of learning to beat the odds by trading based on a combination of factors that add up to high percentage odds which create consistent wins over time. Igor has earned my respect as one of the few legitimate traders who is not in the business to be a broker's employee selling glamour to the masses who have no intention of undergoing the discipline and work it takes to become a successful trader. Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars A light at the end if the tunnel
Being exposed to Forex for a little more than 13 years now, I have to honestly say that having read numerous volumes on the subject this book stands out both by it's simplicity and complexity combined. It is a well known fact that a majority of really great things are simple. Here is where this book comes in. Even though it might lool a bit comlex after reading it carefully and grasping the idea, or better put, the strategy that Igor describes you will get the sense of safe heaven. Forex markets are driven both internally and externally by such an abundance of information that it is difficult and sometimes very tiresome to make sense of it all. This book gives a clear cut picture of what needs to be done at a a very specific points in time. It doesn't just give you the tools to trade but also, and that's extremelly important, teaches you the right attitude to forex. It gives the trader the peace of mind with clear cut money management and trading techniques to be applied when the market presents it's opportunities. This strategy can be used by both seasones traders as well as novices. You can work and still manage 20 to 40 min a day to do your analyses and enter the orders for the trades. Or you can watch the market constantly and identify and react to the situations that present itself. I highly recomend this book as a unique approach to trading and consistently making money with a very limited stress that most people experience in this bussiness. For a person with an opened mind this could be a breakthrough that they need to develop their own profitable trading routine.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands-on trading guide
I view this book as the best possible instruction manual and survival guide in a cold and merciless trading world.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Psychology of Hedge Fund Trading
After 30 years as an manager and researcher with Morgan Stanlety, and 3 or 4 years as a "hedgehog" (a hedge fund manager), Barton Biggs give us this entertaining memoir of his professional life. Mostly consists of chapters profiling leading investment figures under fictional names. Really interesting to see how even the hottest, smartest, and most driven investors come to grief on a consistent basis; that includes the author himself, who confesses here to some of his mistakes such as shorting oil when it kept going up. Lots of sleepless nights and anxiety in the business, although apparently even the no-talent hacks can make at least 150K a year, and many of the more talented are billionaires. Many of the hotshots in the professional investing world sound like narcissistic cranks in Biggs' description, but entertaining cranks to read about. Like Lefevre's classic REMINISCENCES OF A STOCK OPERATOR, this is mainly interesting for its insights into the psychology of trading.
2-0 out of 5 stars They called him a guru because they couldn't spell charlatan
In this book, Mr. Biggs does not discuss the fact that before he left Morgan Stanley he was unmasked as having fabricated comments used in his research reports (claimed to be from his plumber, Ron Valentine) [see NYT, May 21, 2000, Sec 3, p2]. Readers and potential readers of Hedgehogging should, however, remember. It explains the view smart investors have had of Mr. Biggs for some time: he is mildly entertaining, but not someone you should use for serious advice. And above all: never give him any money.
3-0 out of 5 stars Two quick points from this book to give a sample
One anecdote here involves "Michael," a pseudonym for an investor Mr. Biggs admired, and hired, while he (Biggs) was at Morgan Stanley.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST
If I were to be deprived of all the trading books in my collection but one, that would beThe Encyclopedia. 5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Guide to Making Money in Forex
I had been looking for a book with currency-specific technical analysis techniques that I could recommend to the many people who are looking for such information. There was a book by Cornelius Luca with a similar title that went out of print. Now used copies are selling for as much as $1700. This one is far better and more useful.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great...with minor flaws
If you are already familiar with TA, then the strength of this book lay not in the standard discussion of patterns and indicators/oscillators. Instead, the main strength is to be found in the well-described trading setups that the author covers...setups that I have found to be quite profitable (when combined with proper risk-management, of course)
4-0 out of 5 stars Read First - for beginners
This book covers the basics of FX market first, then going through each standard TA tools one by one, as on how they apply to FX.If you have read books on TA already, you may find it really basic, even it keeps using FX trades as examples.

5-0 out of 5 stars What more could you ask for in abook???
Trading is serious business, although you wouldn't think so, considering the way many people approach it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Solid technical analysis book
This book is worth the money. The author presents solid explanations on the use of technical indicators and statistical calculations of the market. He guides you step by step in order to understand the specific applications and use of technical analysis and use of mathematical calculations applied to the financial markets. The depth of research and examples is very broad and extensive, plus the examples of the actual programming code in order to create your own trading systems is very helpful. Recommended by MTA to complete the CMT course.

5-0 out of 5 stars Technical Details for the Technical Analyst
Many people refer to the Achelis book for simple, straight-forward descriptions of technical analysis tools.I too have it on my primary bookshelf. However, lately, more often than not, I find myself reaching for Kaufman's book to get good background on the various ways of technically analysing trading options. He has chapters devoted to practically every indicator type you may encounter:chart reading, events, regressions, trending, momentum, oscillators, seasonality, cycles, patterns, multiple time frames, and advanced techniques. He then goes into some details regarding system testing, practical considerations, risk control, and diversification. As a wrap up, he provides some end-notes for the mathematically inclined.

5-0 out of 5 stars Perhaps best book on making a living from speculating
Link's book is among the best book you can read about if you serious about making money investing for a living. There are tons of books about technical analysis and stock picking, but you won't get far unless you can recognize and control emotions, have a system and money management plan, and learn discipline. High Probability trading is one of only a handful of books that covers those aspects, which is most important in determining your success. Unlike many guys, he actually admits to making big mistakes and blowing through $$$. You have to accept the fact that you'll lose money at first and that large chunks of money that you blow through is really "trading tuition". This guy is really an ordinary Joe who has journeyed through many painful experiences in the investing world. Link teaches you how to deal with them.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best trading book on my Shelf
I have never found a book that you could sit down with and directly trade the market using the set-ups in the book. This book is no exception.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best I've read
For starters, I do not want to pick a fight, and I am not saying this book is by any means perfect, but I hope no one is influenced by Larry Livingstone's review dated May 18, 2006. In case you don't know, Larry Livingstone is the character in Lefevre's classic, "Reminiscences of a Stock Operator", which is itself a slightly fictionalized biography of the very real Jesse Livermore. Just so you'll know. Read his review and then come back.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Outstanding!!
I didn't know anything about options, and had come to Amazon to find a book that I could read that would cover the basics and hopefully go over practical trading strategies that a novice could execute. Well, I read the customer reviews on this book, at the time 9 reviews, all 5 out of 5.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
This is a really practical book that illustrates how to trade options in context of what's happening with the price of your stocks.I like the sample trading plans, and there's an excellent chapter about trading psychology, something that is way too often overlooked.Recommended.
5-0 out of 5 stars Thorough yet User Friendly
This is an excellent book that I now keep by my desk.Big emp
