5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful in Understanding Globalization
Most discussion of globalization consists of uninformed opinion that is not worth listening to or reading. Not so with "Making Globalization Work" - the author is a Nobel prize-winner in economics and has worked at the IMF and the White House. He provides an excellent summary of the current problems with globalization, and a number of suggestions for improvement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Globalization is the greatest reorganization of the world since the Industrial Revolution
Globalization is an irreversable trend, and the current form of it led by transnational corporations that use their lobbies to create unfair trade agreements will drive us to the brink. Many have been misinformed about globalization by reading Thomas Friedman's pean to corporate globalization, a runaway bestseller.
5-0 out of 5 stars A well-informed and thought-provoking work
In this book, Stiglitz gave his advices on how to make globalization work for most of the population on earth:how the world - especially the developing countries - can reap the enormous benefits of globalization while containing the equally enormous problems -- problems well documented in his previous book "Globalization and Its Discontents" - that globalization creates.

5-0 out of 5 stars A REAL MARVEL
I OWN THIS BOOK. I REFERRED THIS BOOK DURING MY MBA PROGRAMME. THIS BOOK IS SIMPLY GREAT. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE AUTHOR, PUBLISHER. IT IS RALLY A MARVEL TO OWN IT. WORTH POSSESSING IT. I HAVE NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE IT.
4-0 out of 5 stars there is a 6th edition
I apologize for writing a "review" before reading the book... I couldn't find any other forum to let people know that there is a 6th edition of this textbook, but Amazon does not yet carry it.I found this out when I arrived at my class with my brand new 5th edition, and it wasn't the right one.The bookstore apparently has the 6th edition.Make sure you know which edition you need before purchasing this one!

3-0 out of 5 stars Review
This book contains a lot of unformation concerning the international market and how to function within its barriers. It offeres many cases which help explain the issues and problems concerning the market.Alhough, the book is confusing and is hard to understand the language if you do not have a background in business. The information is inbedded in the text which makes it difficult to find what your looking for, and also offers many points of view which make it difficult to understand what is the correct answer. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars its a perfect strategy for the 21st century: for all MNCs to follow
A new approach which in fact is so easy but psychologically so difficult to accept. We have tried it out and and observed companies doing it since 16 years: to design and market low end products for the "Bottom of the Pyramid" (BOP) with high profit margins at low cost. We have developed a tool which we call MMP or Multiple Market Positioning which shows step by step how to implement this BOP idea successfully. Editorial Review

In a global economy, it is crucial for business peopleto be sensitive to cultural differences. And although the best reason for doing so may be ethical, it's great for business as well! This is an invaluable book for "doing well while doing good" in your intercultural relations, covering the protocols of appointments, business entertaining, greetings, forms of address, gestures, dress, and gifts in 60 of the nations you're most likely to be doing business. 4-0 out of 5 stars Avoiding the cultural faux pas...
Today's business world is such that you are very likely to have working relationships with global business partners. And you *should* know that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do".But what exactly is that?Terry Morrison and Wayne A Conaway bridge some of that information gap with the book Kiss, Bow, or Shake Hands. This is one of those books that could help you close a big deal (or avoid killing one).
4-0 out of 5 stars A resource for me
Written for the international business traveler, this book was a great resource for me as characters in the Marketplace novels came from around the world. For my fans who keep asking me for "the protocol:" hey, start here and you tell me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dissapointing!
60 countries, and the only country in the entire continent of Africa the authors wrote about was Egypt? C'mon. While the authors do, in a similar compilation published after this one, include South Africa (the only other country in Africa included) and a few other countries, it is still a disgrace that books and compilations such as this one ignore the importance of proper business ettiqute in countries such as Kenya, Senegal, Ghana, and Tanzinia and do nothing more than perpetuate falsehoods, myths and fears about doing business in the aforementioned African countries and many others. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Engaging and Informative
In a series of 'interviews', the book talks about "macro" investing from the viewpoint of a few relatively well-known managers. The reader should essentially be ready to use the book as a framework for his or her own critical thinking on what the "next big thing(s)" could be in the investing realm. While the points made by the interviewees often jump out of the book, the format of the interview and presentation leaves an incomplete picture. Given that most questions asked to the different managers were similar, it would have served the reader much better if the book was organized thematically and not as a series of disjoint/stand-alone interviews (typically, that is a magazine format?).Other than that, the reader will be able to pick up some interesting observations on risk management, asset allocation, information gathering and analysis and behavioral aspects of trading.Overall, a decent addition to the library. The reader shouldn't expect any hand-holding, though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Welcome addition to the literature
This book comes a welcomed addition to the burgeoning literature on hedge fund trading stratagems for the professional/informed layman. Each interview appears carefully selected to demonstrate the wide variety of professional backgrounds of the individuals working in the industry, as well as the ways in which each has attempted to add alpha to assets under management.
5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT READ! modern day equivalent to "Market Wizards"
The book truly interviews the best out there!

I am currently using this book for my Multinational Finance class. This book is not written with the student in mind. There are very few complete examples to learn from, and most of those are poorly worded. There is a lack of simplicity and elegance to all of the materials presented in this book.I think the writers forgot that students need to learn from this book. There are no study aids in this book, and the website for the book is sparse. You will not gain knowledge from this book, only confusion. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Both Honest, and Dishonest, Just Like the Magic Kingdom
I can't give this book a one because it does summarize Disney's business morals well, BUT, it leaves out what is obvious, it's lack of respect for God. Disney, as this book shows, relies on pleasing the customer, not God. It's also helpful in that it does give business advice, although not totally.
4-0 out of 5 stars Seven Keys to Success
This is a fun book, easy to read, great ideas to make your business more successful and customer friendly.I would recommend it highly and it is a great tool for a staff training or retreat.

5-0 out of 5 stars Customer Service 101:A Must Read for Your Staff
This is an excellent tool for managers. While a good manager knows the seven secrets, the presentation in this book reinforces what you know. The secrets are presented in a different format that makes you think of other ways to motivate your staff. What makes this book really stand out is it is an easy, interesting book to read. Most books of this type are presented in a boring, academic format...while this is presented through various characters...those we have in our workplaces.I would recommend this book for all managers...especially those first time managers. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Not the best for undergrad international economics
As an instructor teaching an undergrad international economics, I used this textbook as designated reading for the class. There are several merits about this textbook: simplicity, tons of real-world examples, and plain description. Unfortunately, there are several disadvantages about this book that I can't stand:

5-0 out of 5 stars Good inexpensive text for International Business
I use this as a text for an undergrad capstone course in International Business Strategy. Hill is co-author of a fine Strategic Management text, and much of the treatment in that text is evident here. 3-0 out of 5 stars Lack of recent data
The book covers nearly all subjects under globalization. In the first part, it describes the environment of global enterprise. In the second part, it discusses about strategies. The examples given in the book aregood and specific for the subject. However they are not the recent ones. Insuch a fast growing business environment, the examples should be much morerecent. The most recent ones are from 1994. For example it only coversAsian crisis in the postscript. Therefore I would recommend a book whichhas recent data and examples in it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth reading
I took a course at my university requiring this book. What I found most useful is the numerous updated examples and cases that the author provided. In addition, the discussion is objective and thought-provoking.

4-0 out of 5 stars Littletext.com switch
Ordered this book from Littletext.com as a new hard cover and recieved a softcover international addition.I wouldn't mind using international version since there is hardly any difference, but don't bait and switch on me I don't like it.I'd buy from someone else if the price was within a couple bucks. Got my book not from Chicago as advertised, but Thailand. However it was delivered in no time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much self-reference
I had this book for one of my classes at my University this semester, and although the content of the book is concise and updated, nonetheless the authors rely too much on self-reference. The book is written too much froma "USA is superior" perspective. I also found some errors such astranslations from other languages that were completely off. If you have toget this book for Intl. Business it is overall a good book, but if you canget a better one, do so. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read if you are in economics
The works of Adam Smith are an essential part of universal culture, especially for economics. The introduction to the book places you at the time it was written, which makes it even more valuable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting read
This book is a modeling exercise about the components of a nation's wealth, whereby: Wealth of Nations = Land + Labour + Stock (ie Capital accumulated). This model serves as the foundation of the arguments in the entire book; and an excellent guide to analyze our modern market economies.Smith touches on various topics, ranging from market economics, history of colony establishments, state of opulence (briefly describing China in the 18th century), and of human nature and behavior in general.
5-0 out of 5 stars Put on top of your reading list.
A classic... mandatory but pleasant reading if you are into Economics... not boring despite the size. Read with a pencil handy to highlight the too many good quotes. Get the Bantam Classics edition--cheap, small and unabridged (doesn't get much better than this). Mind boggling how good Adam Smith is. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Great Turning
In The Great Turning, From Empire to Earth Community, author David Korten hits on the rarely discussed conflict facing Humankind in the 21st Century, the struggle between the forces of materialism and the forces of spirituality. Although David does not define it as such, he expresses it in his excellent analysis of the Five Orders of Human Consciousness.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading for executives - and politicians
This book is deservedly already an international management classic, and should be required reading for anybody who needs to interact with other nationalities and cultures. Hofstede got there first with his classifications of cultural dimensions, but Hampden-Turner & Trompenaars' are arguably more compelling, and - more importantly - the book is both highly readable and replete with case studies. It gives American and Northern European business people insights into why their assumptions about what motivates people from other parts of the world are wrong, and why so many US-centered initiatives founder on the rocks of unrecognized cultural differences. Send a copy to the White House!

5-0 out of 5 stars For Business Poeple and Managers
This is a shorter, and more condensed version of the authors' earlier book 'Building Cross Cultural Competence'. In this book, the authors' target managers and business people who are looking to understand cultural differences and how to deal with them in a variety of circumstances and situations. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good start
I don't have any designs on doing business in China but lived there for three years. 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting series of anecdotes (not more, not less)
A bit too many small details at times but generally well written and interesting.

The book gives an introduction for the Chinese market by different examples with more or less participation of the author.
