5-0 out of 5 stars Best Introductory book for Quantitative Finance
Hull is the one stop shop for learning (and using as a reference once you have learnt "it") almost any topic in Quant Finance. This book really has it all - options, interest rate models, volatility modeling, credit derivatives, you name it. However, use it as an introductory book - learn the main concepts from here and then move on to advanced books. As a current student of quant finance, I find Hull's book to be indispensable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book for quants new to finance
I recently entered the field of quantitative finance from physics, and this book has been by far the best resource as both a learning tool and reference. Its bredth of coverage is outstanding, covering topics as simple as bond yields and zero rates, to sophsticated libor market models, weather derivatives, bermudan swaptions, etc. While a bit wordy at times, Hull does present all the mathematics in a tractible manner.Books with more mathematical sophistication, such as Brigo & Mercurio, while interesting, are far less useful on the trading floor.

3-0 out of 5 stars NOT TO BAd~!
This book was good but not terrific. after reading best sellers like Why we want you to be rich by Donald TRump and God Doesn't run a $2 Shop by Sage Saint Francis i found that this book just was not in the same leauge.
3-0 out of 5 stars Buy and Homework
One of Jim's suggestion was to "buy and homework".This definitely stresses upon the time and commitments that have to be devoted into staying updated on the stocks that you own. However, aside from reading the headlines and listening to conference call, Jim does not disect company's income statements as I wish he could have.I guess for this task, I will have to find another book. But overall a very insightful book.Another thing I like about reading his book is that I get to listen to him on his radio, to see him in action. The combination of radio and the book make for a really good re-inforcement.

5-0 out of 5 stars "THE BOOK" is actually quite good
Cramer has done a great job explaining how he analyzes the stock market and offers solid advice on how to put together a portfolio. This is a great book for beginners as well as practitioners interested in Cramer's way of doing things. Still, I wish he would come out with a book that delved into more detail on his advanced strategies in the last chapter, and title it Jim Cramer on Running Money: Winning Strategies for Equity Hedge Funds or something along those lines. ... Editorial Review

Buffett, the Bard of Omaha, is a genuine American folk hero, if folk heroes are allowed to build fortunes worth upward of $15 billion. He's great at homespun metaphor, but behind those catchy phrases is a reservoir of financial acumen that's generally considered the best of his generation. For example, in an essay on CEO stock options, he writes, "Negotiating with one's self seldom produces a barroom brawl." This is his way of saying that an executive who can give himself compensation totally disproportionate to his performance surely will. There are uncountable gems of financial wisdom to be harvested from these essays, taken from the annual reports he writes for Berkshire Hathaway, his holding company. Just to pick one more, here's a now-famous line about those he competes with when making stock-market investments: "What could be more advantageous in an intellectual contest--whether it be chess, bridge, or stock selection--than to have opponents who have been taught that thinking is a waste of energy?"Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference book for all options traders
This book has it all with the strategies outlined in a very concise manner. Not only is every strategy listed with a nice synopsis of each one, an example of a trade is listed on every one. Also, every advantage and disadvantage of each strategy along with an exit strategy should the trade start to turn south. The nice thing about it, is it is so easy to look up a strategy you might want to try without having to comb through the entire book. And each one is listed by type of investor, aggressive, income, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference
A no-nonsense, no-introductory-material reference library of option strategies. Cross-referenced by goal, risk tolerance, strategy type, name, and more. Herein one easily can find each strategy described with its theoretical outcomes, its benefits, and its drawbacks. Order entry and exit procedures and Greeks also accompany each strategy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great book that teaches

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable quick read
I love books that are quick reads and this one was a definite good buy.I would suggest anyone that's looking for a quick investment-based, principled book to buy this as well as a book called Investing Without Losing. These two books are a great quick read for those daily train commute or plane ride.(In my case, both.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Bravo
Concise enough that it can be read on an airplane journey, the book offers a lifetime of lessons from one of the masters.I found the writing to be insightful and entertaining w/the wittiness of the author as he explains the principles of outperformance.Certainly a book I will return to often for ideas and guidance regarding my investments.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great read now, an even better reference for the future
There are a lot of best selling "value investing for dummies" type books out there these days, but most of them recycle the same old cliches while underestimating the reader's ability to comprehend complicated investing approaches. The Little Book of Value investing does neither. It is professionally written by someone who'se been in the game a long time and is willing to share important lessons without dumbing them down too much. I thoroughly enjoyed my first read of this book and find myself regularly flipping through it to generate new investment ideas. ... Read more

Editorial Review

The rich are different from the rest of us, if for no other reason than U.S. tax and securities laws allow them to invest in ways that keep us from catching up to them. That's why 90 percent of all corporate shares of stock are owned by 10 percent of the people. Kiyosaki believes it's possible for anyone to move up into that 10 percent, but it takes a different view of investing than most people have: it takes a plan to be a successful investor. And a plan is more than simply buying and selling, or collecting "assets" that bring in no cash and are thus more akin to liabilities. The way most people invest, "they might as well be pushing a wheelbarrow in a circle," he writes. A plan is "mechanical, automatic, and boring," a formula for success that has worked historically for most of those who've used it. Kiyosaki's "rich dad" (actually, the father of his best friend) tells him the simplest analogy is the game Monopoly: buy four green houses, trade them for one red hotel, and repeat until you become rich.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Kiyosaki - Does it Again!
Kiyosaki's third book in his Rich Dad, Poor Dad series delivers again. This book is a logical progression of RDPD and CFQ building on his principals of building wealth for the first half of the book.Afterwards, Kiyosaki unveals what the reader has been waiting for . . . just how the rich invest. He disclaims the book plainly for the reader looking for the next hot stock tip or get rich quick scheme. The book delivers on it's title from a principal information standpoint, which should suit readers that realize that wealth is built up over time and based upon timeless principals and a strong foundation. The last two phases of the book are extremely well-written.Kiyosaki covers financial ratios, IPO offerings, taking companies public, and of course real estate principals. He presents his information to get you thinking not to give you answers for he knows the answers will come if the action is initiated.Another aspect of Kiyosaki that I particularly like is that he discusses his failures, which should let the masses know that riches are often found after many failures (more often it is the norm). So if you want easy answers - don't buy this book.If you want principals, ingredients for success in building wealth, and systematic structure on what you should be thinking in acquiring and KEEPING your wealth - this is your book!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of my most picked up books!
I have read this book and keep this as a reference when referring to my questions on money and finance. This book is a definite read and its definitly the type of books that you read several times for reasons of referring back to the ideals of money. Another book I reccommend is THINK LIKE A BILLIONAIRE by Scot Anderson.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unique Approach
I finished "Entries & Exits" (Actually, I read it twice) and enjoyed it on so many levels. It was a great opportunity for insight into a diverse group of traders and I was especially struck by the unique blend of methods used by this group of successful traders. What is consistent is the commitment to personal growth, independent thinking, and seeing trading as a business with both fascinating and mundane aspects as with most businesses. The interviews with Sherry and Diane struck a chord as so few women make it into print in the trading literature.
4-0 out of 5 stars A great look at a diverse group of traders
In my opinion this is by far the best of Elder's three trading books. To really enjoy it, however, I believe you'd have to be at least somewhat familiar with Elder's trading style, and reading one of his earlier books would probably be a good precursor to exploring this one. This book consists of sixteen interviews of professional or aspiring to be professional traders. Some, like Gerald Appel (inventor of MACD) are very well known, and some are relative novices to the craft. But all are serious about their work. They have accounts of various sizes (from "small" of less than 250k to "large" of over 1m), come from all over the world, trade different markets, and have methods that range widely, though all are TA (technical analysis) based.I really have to give Dr. Elder credit for selecting such a wide range of trading styles and personalities-far too many to detail here.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!!
I personally has been trading for the last 6 years and I have been using Elder first book " Trading for Living" as a basis of my trading trait. This book reconfirms what I had been learning so far and strategies on this book had further advance my techniques.

4-0 out of 5 stars Technical Analysis Made Easy
This is an easy guide to technical analysis of the markets. It could be compared to the Edwards and Magee book on technical analysis. It has lots of illustrations showing many examples of all the items that are covered in this book and there are a lot.
5-0 out of 5 stars TA's "Must have" Book
A "must have" book to those who will venture in Technical Analysis.Considered to be the "Bible"...You cant go wrong with this one!!! an A+++

5-0 out of 5 stars Basic Introduction to Technical Analysis
I am not going to write a review defending or attacking the practice of technical analysis, which is roughly defined as the use of historic trading data, especially prices, volume, and open interest, usually visually displayed as charts, in order to predict future prices of securities, currencies, and commodities. If you believe in pure market efficiency or fundamental analysis only, you're not interested in technical analysis and should stop reading right here.If you are interested in technical analysis, this is an excellent place to start.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rule#1 Rules!
Overall this is the best investment guide I've found yet. Rule #1 is "Don't lose money." Fair enough; no one wants to lose $$. But how? The author answers that question. First, buy wonderful companies. For Town, that means companies with strong and consistent growth: 10% minimum average annual growth for EPS, free cash flow, sales, and book value for the last 10 years. Efficient, well-managed companies, with great return (10% or higher) on invested capital. Once you've found that company, determine the fair value, and buy it ONLY when it's at a 50% discount, thus giving you a "margin of safety" against the vagaries of the "Mr. Market."
5-0 out of 5 stars TAKE YOUR TIME WITH THIS ONE!
When you read this book, you'll discover:
5-0 out of 5 stars Good Stock market information
He tells you to buy the stock at a discount price and that is part of the method of how you will not lose money. You use formulas to figure out what it will be worth in the future and then decide how much you want to pay today.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't consider buying it...
This is such a short and unsubstantial book- do not bother buying it. Go to your local book store or library, buy the coffee drink of your choice. You can read this in 1 1/2 hours. As others have said, it is written to the 5th grade level. As for the method shown in the book and the website, I would never use only a single simple tool alone. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. If you want to read a REAL book about this topic, read books by James O'Shaughnessy or by William O'Neil.

2-0 out of 5 stars Watchout for Greebblatt!
I bought 20 stocks with Greenblatt's list. Two quarters later i have lost 25 percent of my capital.Of the 20 stocks i picked from his list, only 8 are now on his list 5 months later!!!Wow!! What changed with his numbers SO quickly?Watch out for the Hussler!!You would think that Greenblatt already has enough money and wouldn't need to milk the consumer anymore with yet another book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Limited data from which author extrapolates
My jaw dropped a third of the way through the book when the author says that he tested his "magic formula" over a 17 year period beginning in 1988.Seventeen years?! That's a long time in one's life, but statistically speaking, seventeen years is an insufficient amount of data.Numerous studies using the Compustat database going back 50 years shows that formulas that work well in some decades do not work well in others.Greenblatt should have devised his formula using this 17 year period (1988-2004), and then tested the formula in an out of sample period, such as 1950-1987.Would it have worked as well in the out of sample time period?Maybe, maybe not.Greenblatt doesn't tell us.Major flaw. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and with depth
Well, I wrote about 10 reviews on trading books so far, so that should clear off some doubts of the previous reviewer.
1-0 out of 5 stars You've got to wonder
Every reviewer rates this an exceptional book and every reviewer has only rated one book, this one. Isn't that strange (rhetorical question). I read a great many reviews of trading books; go to a book by Elder or one of the other market gurus and you'll find reviewers who have read and reviewed scads of trading books. There's of course no way for me to know, but maybe the author's real talent is writing trading book reviews.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best traders manual
I bought this book due to the excellent reviews and I agree with all the 5 stars that everyone has given it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good for first exposure to financial markets
This book is not an advanced book on financial markets, but it is a good introductory book. I use this book for my undergraduate teaching. Both I and students are happy about the coverage of the book. It is well organized and well written. Improvements will be valuable in the derivatives markets and risk management areas.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good start
I've used some version of this book for many years now, and I've seen it evolve.I think, as other reviewers have said, that there are some simplified portions of the book, especially those parts dealing with monetary economics. There are other portions which lay out the principles as only these authors can, and those parts are extremely helpful and valuable. This book allows me to teach my notes and thoughts with a textbook serving as a reference and an introduction -- it doesn't get in my way, in other words.I use it along with several other texts, and I think it gets the job done.Students seem to like it as well, mainly for its clarity. For someone wanting to learn the basics, this is an excellent choice.

2-0 out of 5 stars This book insults the intelligence of all but newcomers
Although this might be a perfect book for those looking for simplicity, I would not advise it to anybody with previous exposure to finance.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars What's Your Hesitation?

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Guys, Bad Guys and Wimps
This was not the book I expected it to be, but it has won me over.Kim isn't saying that the mechanics of investing are different for women, but the motivations, rewards and value of investing groups are. That's why there's so many references to "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" etc. - go there to learn more about pure investing.
5-0 out of 5 stars The real deal
Rich Woman is great for women who are just beginning to take control of their financial future and step out into the world of investing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best business book (of many) I've read for startups!
I'm a bit of a business book junkie, and this one is my favorite so far. It's up there on top with 7 Habits and Guerrilla Marketing.I've recommended it to several friends and family members since reading it cover to cover like a novel this weekend. If there was ONE single book I'd recommend to any startup business entrepreneur, it would be this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, funny and smart
What a great read this book is! It can be read just for the fun of understanding Kawasaki's personality, his open approach to business, or it can be read as a primer of how to really start that business. Obviously the man's words are well field-tested and there are many practical suggestions that really cut to the bone and make you stop and rethink a strategy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical advice from the master
It's very apparent from all the other reviews that this is an excellent book, both in style and substance. I have to agree.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is absolutely awesome
I hesitated writing a review for this book because I didn't want people to be drawn to it and therefore increase their understanding of options trading. However it looks like alot of other people already have written there review so I'll add my two cents worth.
