4-0 out of 5 stars Identifying talent
This ia a worthwile read about people management. The author's take a non-traditional approach to people management and their points are usually sensible and logical. The fundamental point of this book is to identify the talent within the employee and how to harness that talent for the good of both the company & employee.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You're a Manager ... You Need To Read This
I must agree with the Amazon reviewer who said that if you could only read one business book, this should be it.It really should be required reading for all managers and supervisors, and definately a required read of all MBA students.

5-0 out of 5 stars How to eliminate swamp gas
This is a revised and expanded edition of a book which has proven especially helpful to those responsible for planning and conducting meetings but also to those who need to improve their presentation skills in other situations such as when meeting with a supervisor (e.g. to provide a progress report) or with a client (e.g. to make recommendations concerning new initiatives). Kelsey and Plumb are professional meeting facilitators who also train others to become effective facilitators. In this new edition, they share much of the same material found in the first edition (Great Meetings! How to Facilitate Like a Pro) but develop it in much greater depth, in response to extensive feedback which they have obtained since 1997. They respond to questions such as these:
5-0 out of 5 stars If you're running a meeting you should get this book
This book is 15% theory, and 85% practical tools and techniques.Anybody responsible for facilitating any kind of meeting will find this book to be a treasure trove of helpful ideas, and welcome wisdom. It's light-hearted and easy to read.I'd be comfortable giving it to somebody quite inexperienced in running meetings, but also found much that spoke to this seasoned practitioner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Veteran facilitator comments
I have used Great Meetings alongside several other facilitation texts for several years in a course on group facilitation in the Conflict Transformation Program at Eastern Mennonite University.Recently a student in our program wrote an enthusiastic review. She has many years of experience as a community facilitator and has demonstrated herself to be highly knowledgeable and competent. With permission of the author, Phoebe Kilby, owner of Sympoetica, phoebek@sympoetica.net, I post it below. This is a review of the 2003 edition of the book. The book has been republished in a 2004 edition.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wast of time and money
This book is a wast of time and money. Basically you get the forms but no way to change them to suit your business. The CD is is Adobe and you are unable to do aany modification to the form, just print as is. Also, the Adobe reader included on the CD is corupted, and you have to get it elsware if you need it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have for anyone preparing for a career in food service
The Encyclopedia of Restaurant Training is a no-nonsense, thorough resource covering the necessary training for all positions in the food service industry, from professional chef to maitre d to bartender and much more. Written in clear, easy-to-understand terms and charts spelling out explicit training instructions, and illustrated with some diagrams (such as a picture of how to properly set a formal table), The Encyclopedia of Restaurant Training spares no effort to be as understandable as possible. No background knowledge in any trade is needed to grasp explicit instructions ranging from a step-by-step breakdown of the hostess job to the proper order of service for a luncheon handout to how one can go about creating a memorable presentation to food service employees, and much more. A CD-ROM accompanies this absolute must-have for anyone preparing for a career in food service, or charged with the responsibility of training food service recruits.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential Dictionary of Real Estate
Useful book, especially when I'm stuck for an understandable definition of a real estate term. Some of the definitions are different than those given in the real estate class I'm taking. Then again, some terms have more than one definition, and both are correct. Not state-specific. This is for national.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best how-to book on storytelling
I have been through a number of the most popular books on corporate storytelling, and this is by far the most useful of them. While they all contain a number of case studies, this book goes one step further and actually provides the reader with clear step-by-step guidelines on how to start using storytelling within your own organisation. Budtz, Fog and Yakaboylu evidently have a lot of real-world experience with their subject matter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly informative
It's rare that a European book on branding is endorsed by American gurus such as Philip Kotler, Kevin Kelly and Tom Peters - even marketing guru Seth Godin calls this book "one of the very best marketing books of the year".

4-0 out of 5 stars A review on Andragogy and learning theories
The Adult Learner by Malcolm Knowles is a comprehensive and informative book covering various aspects and theories on learning beginning with the roots of andragogy. The reading then progresses through adult learning in human resource development to elaborating how andragogy is applied in practice. Lastly, strategies are introduced to tailor learning to individual differences and to be able to implement adult learning in organizations. I specifically found useful the new perspectives on adragogy that has emerged from research and theory in a variety of disciplines from the learner's need to know working your way through the core principles to motivation to learn. Even though this is definitely a worthy read because of the comprehensiveness of the content it would be more suitable for a reader that already has had some what of a foundation within the adult learning realm.

5-0 out of 5 stars THE ADULT LEARNER, SIXTH EDITION
This book was in excellent shape.I received it sooner than I expected.

2-0 out of 5 stars A classic, but it does not use its own advice.
Malcolm S. Knowles is the founder of the theory of Andragogy (Adult Education), and I agree with him on many of the points he makes.

Editorial Review

Until the early '90s, project management was definitely located somewhere near the unsexy end of the business spectrum. But now, with the rise of downsizing and outsourcing, it has become one of the hot disciplines. Professional membership of the U.S.-based Project Management Institute has quadrupled in the last decade, and Microsoft claimed recently to have over 2 million users worldwide of its project-management software. The reasons for this growth are simple. Project management is about managing "projects," that is, unique pieces of work (as opposed to ongoing operations). Downsizing, outsourcing, and the accelerating pace of change have meant that, increasingly, work is carried out on an ad-hoc, one-off project basis. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding and Comprehensive Introduction to Project Management
As someone who has performed a bit of project management in the Aerospace industry I can honestly say how much I wished I had read this book BEFORE I started doing PM. Without it I got by, through hard work, trying to apply common sense, and the luck of having great bosses. But it was painful nonetheless and often felt like I was walking an icy tightrope in pitch-black.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best Project Management books

5-0 out of 5 stars PMP Instructor Recommendation
I have been teaching a PMP preparation class for several years now and I recommend this book to every one of my students because it fits and supports the strategy which I stress: concepts, concepts, concepts - if you get the concepts, the rest (processes, formulas, techniques, etc.) comes easier.I recommend this book because it nails the concepts consistent with PMI's PMBOK guide plus it provides an approach to the application of these concepts in the workplace. If you're preparing for the PMP exam or just need a guide to help improve your project management skills, I highly recommend "The Fast Forward MBA in Project Management, Second Edition." ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Sucked
My husband came home with this book last week.I am considering buying a business of great interest to me, but I have next to no experience with retail. He has his doubts about the whole "dummies" series, but thought maybe it would help me.We both found the text to be vague, as I was looking for concrete definitions to some of the unfamiliar business terms which the book did not provide. At the same time, the suggestions for running a small business were ridiculously obvious and downright condescending. The book went back to the store, and I ordered a copy of Specialty Shop Retailing (How To Run Your Own Store) by Carol L Schroeder from my local library.I would HIGHLY recommend this book, and once I finish reading entirely I'll take the time to provide a thorough review. But really, the book has a great layout and it's enjoyable reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Small Biz Bible
This book has been very useful. The author gives practical tips, advice, checklists and forms - all in an easy to read format. He makes things that seem overwhelming at first suddenly seem manageable. The CD ROM saved me a bundle in legal fees.He seems to know what it is like to have been in the trenches.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent book but not for my cause
I was toying with the idea of creating an online based business selling educational material and decided to buy this book because I wanted to learn the specifics of running a homebased business.I was searching for facts about taxation, how to get a business liscense, and a directory to web resources. These were in here but with such little detail. Also the book does not tackle small business management like I thought. It explained how to set up a larger business with a board of directors and examples of balance sheets working with millions of dollars in transactions.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for all serious scholars of leadership
I have found the "Handbook" to be most useful.I disagree with my Swedish friend above about the book.In fact below is a snippet from THE journal of leadership about the book.According Schriesheim, Scandura,Gardiner and Lankau (1993) the Handbook is "the outstanding foundationsource for information on leadership theory and research" (p. 104). Schriesheim et al. state further that the handbook is "the sourcewhich scholars should consult first in attempting to understand any of thesubsidiary topics...subsumed under the general rubric of 'leadership theoryand research'" (p. 108).4-0 out of 5 stars A classic, comprehensive work
Bass presents a thorough, but brief synopsis of the findings in leadership research. His chapter on stress and leadership ignores the positive effects stress has on leader behavior and its relationship to subordinates.

1-0 out of 5 stars Social science back 60 years?
This text displays a plethora of simplistic, presumptuous and shallow typologies purporting to explain what is a leader and why it has to be so. Without any concern for contemporary social studies the author tells usabout what inborn qualities signifies a female leader, why there are fewerblack leaders than white ones ("scientifically proven" lowcognitive ability according to the author, pp. 740-741), and the litanygoes on. It is baffling that this stuff is still available in the bookmarket as anything else than obscure reminiscences of American socialscience in a time we rather forget about. ... Read more
