5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting, realistic and practical approach.
Recently, I purchased and read this book.I've to say it is an excellent source of information and ideas. Congratulations and thank you for offering a valuable resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well written
I've read a lot of books about business, investing and similar and this one is superior in writing clarity and focus. It was written by a true teacher who has that special gift of being able to explain the complex and make it understandable. He is able topredict questions the reader will have and answer them.He has broken down the sequence a beginner needs to take to be successful in starting a small importing business.

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed With Powerful Information About Selling Books Online!
I knew I was going to like this book when after a short treatise on "Why Online Bookselling?" the author immediately launched into the nitty gritting of what every aspiring book seller wants to know: "Where to Find Books,"beginning on page 13, followed by "What Books to Buy." One by one he not only lists his most successful sources for finding valuable books for resale, he goes into depth to explain how to extract the maximum benefit from each source.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Business Idea!!
I recently purchased the book, "The Home-Based Bookstore" by Steve Weber and found it to be an amazing business opportunity idea.I have loved books all my life and have even considered opening a bookstore or comic shop. While this book does not mention anything about opening a comic shop, the model could be applied with ease. This book tells you how to find books to sell, grade them, organize your inventory, and shipping. It also goes into customer service and feedback which is very important. If you have always wanted your own business and be your own boss, then I highly recommend giving this book a try.

5-0 out of 5 stars All serious book sellers need this book!
I have been looking on-line for a good, recently written, book about bookselling and more importantly, selling books on amazon. And I found it!Steve Weber's book has a wealth of information in it for booksellers.I particularly liked the section on where and how to find good books, because I feel exhausted at times, trying to find good books. However, there are many sections that provide a wealth of information in Steve's book.

4-0 out of 5 stars It helps me think ahead
I didn't put much thought of the structure of my company prior to reading this book. Now, I'm taking a serious look at it and researching ways to fully benefit from a properly sturctured corporation. It has even inspired me to set high goals on ways to expand my business.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great beginner's guide for starting a business!
This book does a great job at exploring the various options for starting a legal business entity. The writing is straightfoward and interesting, and the organization of the book is spot on.The book serves as the perfect primer for business law, and will help readers identify what legal structure is best suited for their needs.Once this is done, I'd recommend finding a book (or lawyer) that focuses on that entity.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tedious read, but good nonetheless.
This book is chocked FULL of extremely valuable & educational information from cover to cover. When getting into any entrepreneurial endeavor, the whole legal/tax side of things can be very confusing and intimidating, even to the point where many people just don't bother since there is so much to learn.Luckily, there are books like "Own Your Own Corporation" that sum it all up for us with a clear, concise and understandable writing style.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but not the only start up book you'll need if you run a service business.
This book is very good. However, the bookkeeping and financing chapters help somewhat, but don't cover service businesses. The author assumes the business you'll be starting will be selling a product, or starting a service business with products together, i.e. home remodeling, interior decorating, etc.I am starting a tutoring business, so I will have no products to sell, no vendors, and no inventory. So, if your'e starting a strictly service based business like massage therapy, house-cleaning, pet-sitting, tutoring, etc, and have no products to sell, then you'll probably need to get an additional book that's geared toward just service businesses.I think they need to add a chapter devoted to only these kinds of businesses.

4-0 out of 5 stars A little out of date.. other-wise great
This book was published in 2001... technology has certainly changed since then. Meaning as far as the E-commerce chapter of the book goes, it wasn't that informational. That section and the equipment chapters really needed to be updated...
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for someone thinking about starting a small business. Easy to read format and easy to comprehend.
There is a lot to starting a business. Some people KNOW what business they want to get involved with and start. While others are clueless. The clueless bunch are the ones who should consider reading this book. It covers quite a few topics that an entrepreneur must consider when starting a business. But it does not go overboard going into too much detail on any of the topics.

2-0 out of 5 stars Fails to give enough information
This book only provides a VERY little more than can be found in 3 minutes of searching the internet.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good companion book when starting your own agency.
How to Start a Home Based Collection Agency has some good information in it.I think if someone is thinking about starting their own agency, this book would be helpful in helping them make that decision.I feel they would need to do more research as this book doens't cover everything you need to know but it is a great place to start.I think this book is a good companion book with my book on Starting a Collection Agency.I think combined someone would have enough information to start their business.Of course, the learning is never over so joining a credit association or group would be an added asset when purchasing this book or any book on this subject.Overall, I found the book to have alot of helpful information, and is easy to read.Robert obviously has experience in this field and has written this book to share that knowledge with others looking to start out in this field.

3-0 out of 5 stars Some good information, but not nearly enough
While this book does cover a lot of topics related to the debt collection industry, it does not cover a single one of them in any detail. It is a very thin book that has large print.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for anyone in business or professional field
This book was part of my Professional Ethics class. I have to say I was very skeptical (as the textbooks are never fun and one guy gave it a poor review) at first. However, after reading the book I have learned a lot. Ethics is not a matter of conservative or liberal (if that's true than god himself has to be a liberal not to mention bible talked about ethical behavior too). This book focused on why we need ethics in business and how proper ethics enforcement can save a business from corruption and other questionable behavior which eventually may bring down a business (think Enron). It talked about both sides and didn't force someone's opinion on us rather helped us make our own decision which will be ethical and benefiting to the business. Although it was my text book I'd recommend this book to anyone as part of business strategy making.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious and Practical
Moran does not sugar coat the event planning business. If you are serious about making it your career, she has provided a road map. It isn't for the fainthearted, but it is do-able with perserverance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Home-Based Event Planning
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is considering a career in the event planning industry. The author, Jill Moran, shares so much information with her readers - more than most "how to" instructors. I was so pleased with the way she mapped out the entire process. She's very thorough; it's plain to see that she's an industry expert. She also cites many excellent resources for those who are new to event planning. I am very satisfied with this investment. It will serve as a terrific reference tool as I take steps to launch my own business. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars An Informative Albeit Dated Book
When this book was first printed in May 2002 there's no doubt it amounted to what could then be considered groundbreaking work. Well, that was then. This is now. While I still considered the book a fair read, even for a novice such as myself, it was obvious that it was a bit dated.

The Wedge process works. It's a proven way to compete and win clients based on proactive services. If you're looking to move your sales force away from the death spiral of price-based competition, read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fresh Ideas on Sales
After reading The Wedge, and applying its principles to my sales presentations, I landed a rather large account that I know a competitor was also avidly pursuing. That alone makes the investment in this book worthwhile. 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of The Best of Insurance Sales
Books on sales are a dime a dozen. Some have a focus on a specific market while others are as general as water. If your intention is to break into the broker market or just expand your market share in Insurance, Then This Book Is For You! The book is short, precise and powerful. 3-0 out of 5 stars Pages and editor missing but highly informative
I bought this book hoping to open my own home-based travel agency but decided half way through the book it wasn't really the career for me.So I received enough information to let me know that I didn't want to waste any more time pursuing a career as a travel agent. There was information on how 9/11 has negatively impacted the travel industry. It also made me realize how much more difficult it is to break into the business without negotiating with specific companies for referral commissions and that travel agencies now have to charge fees for issuing airline tickets because airlines no longer provide commissions (because most of them have never recovered from 9/11 and are on the brink of bankruptcy).I personally prefer to buy tickets directly from the airlines to avoid additional costs.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good but...
The book is really good, but it's a little outdated. I thought I was getting the most recent edition (the one issued in 1997) as this was shown as the most recent version by amazon, but there was one issued in 2003, so be sure to get that one, as without that you don't get access to the authors web site.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I was a "travel agent" for GTI and just didn't get the support I needed and found the benefits non-existent. But I found out that I wanted to become a real travel agent. I bought both books from Amazon.com and found How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency the best book for anyone wanting to start a serious career selling travel. The other book is good if you want to join GTI or organizations like that. I didn't find many errors in it at all. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great content
Have not completed my review; at first glance, my whole staff should have one

5-0 out of 5 stars Stark Logic
Although only 14 pages deep into Keith Rosen's,"The Complete Idiot's Guide To Cold Calling", it is clearly evident that the content quality of this work is superb, both in logic and presentation. The intellectual level of the content is particularly striking. Overall, the work is judged ideally compatible with the needs of professionals seeking to succeed in markets where participants are relatively sophisticated,or beyond.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just About Cold Calling But New Prospecting Ideas, Too!
Who hasn't at some point in his or her career sat staring at the phone, paralyzed at the prospect of picking up the receiver and making that dreaded call? For most of us, cold calling is the weakest link in our chain of selling effectiveness. This book puts it all together, step-by-step, and shows you how to turn this greatest of challenges into your own personal secret weapon. Plus other outstanding prospecting ideas that will help bring in even more business. There is very, very good stuff here, on every page. This book should be required reading for every business person everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and To The Point!
I bought this book after hearing about it's simplicity at my local Apple Computer Store. Not only did the book exceed my expectations, but I also found a wealth a valuable information on the included CD-Rom. GREAT value for a very little expense!

4-0 out of 5 stars Provides good ideas for creating a business road map
I've read a fair amount on how to write a business plan, and for me, this book has been the most helpful. It is a straightforward, concise book that clearly describes the sections of the author's version of a business plan. The author provides many examples to illustrate the sections, and worksheets to help the reader develop their thoughts on what should be in their business plan. The business plan presented in this book is very good as an informal tool for anyone who is starting a business.

5-0 out of 5 stars Accurate, Measurable, Focused
If you want to really focus on your business, then I recommend this book. The exercises enable you to concentrate on the plan in your mind and help you place it on paper. I had an instructor in high school who encouraged us to remove the "fluff" and get to the point. This book certainly helps you accomplish the task and helps you produce a tangible document that is accurate, measurable, and focused. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Box of Great Ideas, Especially For Small Business
This is a great book that can be read cover to cover or just dipped into for sheer inspiration and ideas that will prove especially useful in getting a small business either off the ground or to new heights.
3-0 out of 5 stars Agree with the good reviews below...but
The book is outdated.A lot of the web resources are no longer valid.Time for a new edition?

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource
There are a lot of books on marketing and this is absolutely one of the best. I guarantee that you'll find something useful here. There's good information on the philosophy of marketing and great questions meant to make you think about your business but this book really shines in it's practical bent: it is absolutely filled with ideas that most businesses can use (most are fairly simple) to increase traffic and business. There's so much here that I think several readings are needed to really get all the information. Really a good book to keep and refer to as your business grows and needs change. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I can't believe I read a how-to book!
Denise Vivaldo has done the food service industry a service of her own in writing this book.As a caterer, I couldn't put it down, I read the entire book in one sitting. If you are considering a catering, or even a restaurant business read this book!I found Vivaldo's insight to be not only helpful, but it pointed out areas of the field I had scarcely considered.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best of its kind!
After reading several other books on the same topic, I ordered and read this one hoping I'd get at least one important tip from this book that I didn't get from the rest.Much to my surprise, I found that this book was the most informative, useful and up-to-date source I'd come across. It was well organized and very thorough - far more so than The Food Service Professional's Guide. It covers every facet of the business and offers practical advice on how to run a successful catering business and also provides numerous resources in the back that will help you further your career. This book has become my primary source of reference.I can't praise it enough!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Orientation to Newbies!!
This was the first book my sister and I bought to research home catering and WE HIT THE JACKPOT!This resource is especially helpful because it has a conversational tone and reminds newbies to catering of some important points: you will learn as you go and always keep the profitabililty of the business in mind in all decisionmaking. The author literally reminds readers to "not act like you can't understand the math" and run the business properly from day one.

4-0 out of 5 stars irony
New to the subject, I found the book pitched at the right level, stimulating for the layman and a useful starting point for teaching.
4-0 out of 5 stars If you are new to e-marketing, great book to start....
I had this book as part of my Master's Digital Marketing course at coloradotech.edu
5-0 out of 5 stars Marketing viewed from multiple angles.
I enjoyed the read becuase it wasn't the 1-man point of view like most books contain. It was a discussion from multiple angles and multiple points of view that lets you come out with your own perspective once you've read it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Be Your Own Boss!
I would classify this book as more of a general overview of all the important things you need to consider before actually starting your business. For particulars you will definitely want to contact a good business attorney and a good accountant. Not to mention, you'll need to interface a lot initially with your local city/state governments to get tax forms and your business license.
5-0 out of 5 stars Home-Based Business For Dummies
I think this book is great, concise, and entertaining. It is just what I was wanting to know.

5-0 out of 5 stars Covers circulation, readership, proposal writing, optional publication formats, niche markets and more.
If you're thinking of starting a home-based publishing business, you can't be without Publish Your Own Magazine, Guidebook or Weekly Newspaper: it tells how to not just publish a winning title, but how to make it profitable - with no money up front. All kinds of successful periodicals and what made them tops are reviewed in a title which covers circulation, readership, proposal writing, optional publication formats, niche markets and more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Bang for your Buck
Of the many books that I have purchased on self-publishing, this is one of the better ones.Even though I myself was mostly interested in book publishing rather than mangazines or guidebooks, this book still served me well. It gave a lot of useful tips and pointers as well as information I never thought about.I checked the book out of the library initially, but I want my own copy.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Overview; Would Benefit From Narrower Focus
Although Williams certainly offers a great number of helpful tips and forms for those interested in pursuing publishing ventures, I agree with other reviewers that this book would have benefited from a narrower focus rather than trying to tackle the three major varieties of publications (not to mention their sub-varieties) in a single book. Though they certainly share similarities, there are enough differences to keep someone interested solely in newspaper publishing (or whichever focus is yours) rather bored for much of the text.Read more
