5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a must read for any True American!
Why is America's economy in a never ending downward spiral? Why do most Americans think they get back money from taxes, and never think how much they already have paid? This book is a great eye-opener to what is really going on in America's tax system and what needs to be done to fix it.This book is not just about what needs to be fixed, but also what is being done right now, that most Americans are unaware of.For example, did you know that about half of the American popular pays one hundred percent of all income taxes. And did you know that corporations do not pay corporate taxes, we do!

2-0 out of 5 stars Easy Read
I'm generally NOT a book reader, but managed to read The FairTax book in just over one day, while on the road with the family.I'd already heard a great deal about the FairTax from listening to talk radio, but I was really hooked from just the first ten-page (or so) chapter.I find it hard to believe that anyone could learn about the history of the income tax system, and the 16th Ammendment, without beginning to boil. How could we have been so short-sighted to allow this to happen?
5-0 out of 5 stars The Fair Tax: The Country needs this badly!
Please read this book,it will open your eyes. The Fair Tax is the way to go,the mere fact that the IRS code needs over sixty thousand pages should tell you that there is alot of legal graft and corruption built into the system. The Fair Tax would eliminate this.Do yourself a favor and buy this book, read it and then take action.

2-0 out of 5 stars I'm not employed by a tax lawyer
This would probably be a great book for a law student, but not for a lay person. I consider myself to be fairly intelligent, but I had a bit of difficulty wading through this to find the little bit of info that I needed.I'm sure it's also a great book for someone with a tax background.

1-0 out of 5 stars unable to review
unfortunately, at the time of writing, 9 August 2005, I still have not received the item ordered on 7 July 2005. Therefore, I am not able to give any views on the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars International Taxation
Doernberg provides a helpful overview of the important topics most relevant in International Taxation. This summary will be a useful guide for students, practitioners and anyone else interested in the U.S. tax issuesrelevant in international business. While short by design, this bookcontains a surprising amount of information. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Great for entertainment value...
...but that's all it is.The book makes a lot of amusing arguments as to why you don't need to pay tax and you may find it funny if you are a tax attorney (as I am), accountant, enrolled agent or any other kind of tax practitioner.Considering Mr. Schiff is in prison for tax evasion now, I'd consider this book to be completely bogus.A good laugh, yes; good advice, definitely not.

3-0 out of 5 stars To be read with a grain of salt
While I agree that Schiff makes some interesting points in his claims such as paying the income tax is voluntary, that 'income' does not include wages, that it is okay to file a zero 1040 return, etc., following such advice will be fine until the IRS comes knocking at your door.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth Can be Costly
Irwin Schiff is correct and amazon is brave for still having a link to this book still up. This book is banned material in all forums and this includes amazons selling of it. read the court order banning the book at www.paynoincometax.com . Schiff is under is prosecution (persecution is more like it) by the Feds because they of course want to keep us all slaves. And we are slaves no matter how you want to justify it. (paying a "fair share" is a socialist term) Serfs in feudal England were considered slaves and they got to take home more than we do now. The Federal Government operates outside the Law and the courts are clearly simply ignoring the facts. Go to his site and read the motions and decisions rendered so far and see for your self how the court behaves. There is of course one reviewer here who is clearly a Federal Agent. Do note that according to the Patriot Act, once you purchase this book, the government will know about it and you will be on thier hit list. So if you can get it through other means. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Advice that could get you in trouble...
Famous authors of several other books like this one, for example Jerome Schneider, have already been * convicted * of tax fraud and have handed over their entire client lists to the US Government.
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't read at your peril
If you are looking for a "feel good" book that only gives you the sugar frosting about offshore without warning you about the many pitfalls, then this book isn't for you.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good book for newbies
This is a good book for teaching newbies the basics of how to go offshore, open bank accounts, and (perhaps most importantly) avoid offshore scams.

5-0 out of 5 stars International taxation made understandable
This book makes international taxation easy to understand.
2-0 out of 5 stars Sloppy and superficial
This book was disappointing for three reasons. First, there are computational errors in the chapter on the foreign tax credit. Second, there are errors of fact in the summary of Aiken v. Commissioner on page 239. The author confused the roles of the Bahamian corporation and the Honduran corporation or, at the very least, doesn't adequately explain the relation between the two in this case. The case is only 2 pages long, which makes this slip inexcusable. Third, the author is capable of better. He openned his career with one of the most powerful critiques of the "substance over form" doctrine. This book, by contrast, reads like something that was tossed off in a week. Moreover, the work is out of date. Four years is an eternity in this fast-changing area of the law. Conduits are old-hat. The "limitation-on-benefit" clauses included in every US treaty since 1979 has killed them. Where is the chapter on dual consolidated losses and other double-dip transactions? Why does the author cite cases from the 1920s when there are more recent guidance on point? Etc. etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply a Great Book
What a delight it is to read a book that simplifies the areana of international taxation. The author has written a book that is easy to digest and actually makes the topic interesting with practical examples. This book is well worth the purchase price.Well done! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Out of an abundant Heart...
He put's his faith on africa's young up and coming "cheetahs", and so do I. I feel empowered by George's bare knuckle rumble in the jungle with the political elite and can't wait to join this fight.
5-0 out of 5 stars InsightfulAnalysis of Africa Today
This is the most brilliant texton Africa I have read, and I don't say that lightly. With almost 500 pages of small text, it's not exactly a breeze to get through, but it is worth every second spent. The author unapologetically describes the mess that the "Hippo" generation following decolonization made, and how it ruined the continent. His prescriptions, which amount to `Africans must solve their own problems in their own way, growing out of African traditions', is right on. I hope that anyone interested in Africa reads this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars good book

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Overview
The authors present a well written view of how the exercise of individual rights cost money if those rights are to be accomplished reasonably and in the abscence of armed force on the part of the individual.A number of previous reviewers have sanctimoniously and self righteously assumed for the book objectives far beyound its meager size and intent.I suspect they are the usual (1) "no gummint is good gummint" and (2) "no taxes is good taxes" types who feel that God, or something, made them exempt from cooperating with other people - a general description of so-called libertarians and far-right conservatives. In other words, their rights are paramount and they have no responsibilities or accountability. That road appears by magical thinking, as did garbage delivery and the sheriff's department in their view. They don't owe anyone anything for any reason, and they will shoot you to prove it.Sounds like they did not get socialized in K-12.Read the book for its intent, which is to object to "no gummint and taxes" movement in the US over the past decades which has brought us a really sorry pass and nearly into a form of fascism light.Holmes and Sunstein have done a great service here by raising substantive counter arguments to the "screw you, I got mine" groups in this era.

3-0 out of 5 stars Revealing Explanation of the Necessities of Taxes
While it wasn't the most exciting book I've read, "The Cost of Rights" was a refreshing twist on the taxes issue. It challenged opponents of the current tax system or any tax system to think critically on the subject.I felt that Holmes' and Sunstein's approach was more effective than a listing of statistics.Rather than explaining economic reasons for taxes, they brought it to a level that related more to readers.Everyone has a reason to be interested in the preservation of his or her own rights.Without taxes for government support, we could not be guaranteed equal representation before the law.Taxes pay for law enforcement and other government services that are vital to our liberty.Without taxes, no one would every truly own property.Taxes serve as the standard for American's to exist and be governed by.They do not discern our morals, but instead preserve our rights. In "The Cost of Rights", the case for taxes was presented in such a way that I couldn't see liberty without some sort of tax system.

1-0 out of 5 stars The author was convicted for giving out this advice...
Don't waste your money.
1-0 out of 5 stars Author Is Going to Prison
Anyone who believes this BS is either really stupid or really naive. The author has been charged with defrauding the federal government, has agreed to a plea bargain, and will enter the U.S. District Court in San Francisco next month to plead guilty. As part of the plea bargain Mr. Schneider has turned over his client list to the IRS, complete with addresses, phone numbers and other information. Some tax advice: When something sounds too good to be true - it always is.
1-0 out of 5 stars Tried it, book doesn't work.
I followed the book's instructions to the letter and tried toopen a current account at three Singapore banks recommended in the book. Only one replied, saying I could only open an account denominated in US dollars or Singapore dollars, and not any othercurrency, contrary to what the book says. In addition, this bank wanted somebody already known to them to introduce me to them before they'd deal with me.This book is a waste of time and money. I'm now doing internet research to get the informmation I need to do what I want to do. It takes a lot more time, but I feel confident of success. ... Read more
