4-0 out of 5 stars A good start
I don't have any designs on doing business in China but lived there for three years. It was very common that I could not find answers to questions about who had to be bribed in order to do what from local Chinese people, who would belligerently deny that any type of bribery at all EVER took place in China.
4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting series of anecdotes (not more, not less)
A bit too many small details at times but generally well written and interesting.

5-0 out of 5 stars A usefull guide for the Chinese Culture
The book gives an introduction for the Chinese market by different examples with more or less participation of the author. These examples are lively and explain in detail, why the situation developed the way it did. All situations are researched in-depth end provide names and positions of business people and politicians involved.

I'm really unhappy with both the book and the services provided that come with the book. This has several reasons of which I'd like to point out a few here (though I have to note that I only read the second part - the one about international monetary policy):

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for starting a software business
It is because I am an entrepreneur and a capitalist that I got into Forex trading. Therefore I must admire and respect those who achieve monumental success such as James Dicks. And I actually enjoy reading a book or e-book that is a good sales letter for another product. People who resent such things would do well to go through T.Harv Eker's Millionaire Mind training and other such wealth consciousness training. However, I think most people in the Forex world now realize that Forex Made Easy is a software that produces green arrows for a buy signal and red arrows for a sell signal. The programming behind the software, I am told, is based on a simple signal that is taught in at least a similar form in many introductory trading courses. Following the signal requires users to remain ignorant of all the other factors that could eliminate most of the losses. Many people who started out with Forex Made Easy have told me that they did not start learning to trade until they went on to other sources of training. I believe that Forex Made Easy may not have ever had their customer's best interest nor their success as a motivating factor when creating the company. They have made a huge amount of money with late night TV commercials and high pressure "free introductory seminars".

4-0 out of 5 stars Deep content, but terrible style
First, I should note that The Wealth Of Networks is terribly edited. Given that Benkler thanked his editor for his Herculean work at the beginning of the book, I can only imagine the state it started in; as it is, it ended with glaring grammatical errors, including using "effect" when he meant "affect" and "wave" when he meant "waive". (I'll provide specific examples sometime tomorrow.) Editing, apparently, is a craft that is only noticed in its absence. I didn't realize this until I read The Wealth of Networks. By the time I was done with the book, I was copyediting every page.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
I purchased this book about a week ago and have poured through it. I am new to the Forex market and find this book to easily understand. I focus more on Technicals when i trade rather than fundumentals but the fundamentals provided a new insight. I would highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction to Forex
This book is a pretty thorough and informative introduction to Forex. Not only is it helpful for the many people just discovering the Forex market, but also it would benefit many people who are already trading other markets and perhaps think they know what the Forex market is.I believe that if traders of other markets really understood Forex beyond whatever rumors they have heard they would not be trading anything else. The authors cover everything from what the Forex market is through technical analysis techniques and money management. There is a most enlightnening section on the fundamental forces that move the market and how to use various economic data to predict the movement of Forex currency pairs. This book gives an unbiased introduction to Forex that will enable the reader to determine whether she would like to further explore this exciting subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT book
I've read two other books on trading the foreign exchange. I've been trading the forex successfully for several months now. After reading this book, I feel that I have several more tools in my arsenal for becoming even MORE successful. The authors present a common sense approach to trading/investing that I didn't receive in the other two books. They take some complex economic topics and break them down into very easy to understand, bite sized pieces that just about anyone can understand. They also lay out a few very good approaches that teach you to consistently make a LOT more money than you lose using some sound technical analysis. This book is VERY good for both beginners AND seasoned forex investors/traders. I give my highest recommendation. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Analysis of Intl Trade by Regions
This is a well-written analysis of international trade. The title would be more accurate if changed from "Next" to "Present" Global Stage. Ohmae brings today's trade into clear focus, and (like a geographic economist) helps us understand that "global" trade is indeed limited by regional characteristics such as location, infrastructure, etc. Although nothing dramatically new is found, I would recommend it to students of business or economics to help understand global trade and economics as they "really" occur.
4-0 out of 5 stars Visionary Views of the Evolving Region-State Consistent with Friedman's Flattened World
Although globalization is a rich topic worthy of several volumes, it's a bit of a shame that corporate strategist Kenichi Ohmae's book duplicates much of the same thesis of New York Times foreign affairs columnist Thomas Friedman's huge best seller, "The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century", a book I admired last year. Both authors deal with the phenomenon of a flattened world, a macro-level regrouping of economic forces which occur periodically on a global basis. Friedman explains that the burgeoning global fiber-optic network has transcended national borders and corporate entities to the point of starting a new structure for the economy, specifically the outsourcing of the U.S. economy's service and information-technology work to India and other developing nations. Based in Asia, Ohmae is obviously not as keen on outsourcing but more on the factors that have made outsourcing so attractive to the U.S., i.e., why has such hubs of cost-effective productivity sprouted in Asia. This is how his orientation differs from Friedman's.
1-0 out of 5 stars read 'the world is flat' instead

5-0 out of 5 stars A factual "Must Read" with real stories and real numbers
James Kynge has drawn on over 20 years of life in China as a journeyman reporter for the Financial Times. I read the British release of the book and commend this with enthusiasm. This is a no-BS, readable but fact-filled story of what is really happening in China and throughout the western world as a result, told with finesse and understanding of the deep political and economic impacts unfolding around us. To read it is to arm ones self with knowledge that we all need going forward. It is a red flag warning, but also holds some interesting, ameliorating facts, such the reality that a vast number of Chinese will be swinging to retirement and related cost escalation status in 2040. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Good advice, but...
Al and Laura Reis have put together an interesting book on branding that busy people will appreciate because it is short, clear and filled with examples from well-known brands to help you understand a variety of issues important to good branding. Each of the 22 laws of branding and 11 laws of Internet branding is covered in about 7 pages and includes lots of charts, notes and photos in the margins.
4-0 out of 5 stars Something to think about
This is a book giving very clear examples of the smart and not smart way of branding. Very useful to look at every now and then not to make the same mistakes again.

This is one of the worst books that I was required to read for my MBA program. I didnt benefit anything from reading the book. The authors of this book should not be considered "authors", and people should be paid to read such a book!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written book.
This is a well-written book, which provides a generalist approach to dealing with cross-cultural issues with many excellent examples. The core idea of the book is based on the Hofstede model. One of the central criticisms of this model has been that nation state and culture are always presumed to be the same. Local culture does not follow political boundaries. The authors seem to be unable to avoid this trap. Cultural Intelligence gives good insights on how to notice "Cultural Cruise-Control" and change own way of thinking. Providing some practical tools would have added to the value of this book, but this is a good book for international managers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cultural Intelligence
Author presented interesting views and provide readers clear concept of issues in working with people of cultural diversity.

5-0 out of 5 stars A thorough and very useful guide
This is a detailed survival manual for those who are new to working across cultures. Its aim is to help such people to raise their 'cultural intelligence' - their understanding of cultural diffrences and their impact and their skill with tools to recognize and overcome misunderstanding and failures of communication based on differing cultural expectations.

5-0 out of 5 stars best introduction to international economics
I have taken a few international economics courses and of all the textbooks this was by far the easiest to read and understand. The authors do an excellent job of making the models clear by giving detailed examples. This is one book I am definitely not selling back to the bookstore at school.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great resource
This text book is a wonderful resource for all wanting to learn more about economics in the international arena. It is packed full of facts, graphs, and explanations. One problem I did find in this book is that it tried cover too broad a field. If it would have concentrated on one specific topic like the international economics, and left out the finance, it could be a much stronger work.I grew tired of hearing "as you already know..."It could have not made so many assumtions about what students already knew and used the extra area to cover them. All in all, it was a helpful resource for extra learning, however, I would suggest looking further for a book that will stand alone in teaching an international economics course. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Boring
Wow...This book was boring and confusing.I got it for my international finance class and it is just really hard to follow. It was a waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Step-by-step guide from the master
This book set me up very nicely for a career in forex markets. Possibly the gentlest introduction to international finance, the book does not waste any time with implementation of the ideas, instead provides you with the requisite knowledge, and illustrative examples. I had the fortune of being taught the subject by the author (Dr. Eun), and so the book was fully utilized. However, other teachers would also find the book an ideal companion to course notes. In fact, the book is so well written, it seems like a tutorial. You cannot go wrong if you are using it for international finance courses. The book will also help you with preparation for the CFA charter examinations.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent textbook on international finance
This book has three major strengths compared to other textbooks in this field. #1: It is soundly based on FINANCE theories. Most other textbooks on international finance have more of an "international BUSINESS" taste. #2: It is more analytical than most others. #3: It is comprehensive yet very concise. This is a must-read in the field of international finance. It is particularly suitable for senior-level finance undergraduate and MBA students as well as finance professionals with an interest in investments. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Investor newsletter sold as a book
Dr. Leeb's book makes a lot of sense regarding the consequences of running out of oil, and the growth of world demand outpacing the growth of supply even before supplies dry up. The question is when will all this lead to catastrophic consequnces for the world economy. Dr. Leeb suggests that this is imminent, and we are facing $200/barrel oil prices within the near future. As I am writing this review, oil prices are retreating; after having reached nearly $80/barrel, they are now around $60. How much this is due to a transient decrease in demand (the interest rate hikes by the Feds have slowed down the US economy that has some additional slowing effects worldwide), and how much this is due to price manipulations during the months leading up to the US midterm elections, is yet to be seen. The Feds may have averted stagflation for the time being, but it is doubtful that oil prices (a major reason for inflation) will remain at the current, milder level. Dr. Leeb has some recommendations for investors how to cope with the oil price explosion and period of stagflation. The advise is sensible, provided stagflation is coming in the near future. If we assume that Dr. Leeb has to be right at some point of time, but not necessarily in the immediate future, the investment strategy he recommends may lead to suboptimal returns.
5-0 out of 5 stars Gives what may be some practical advice about oil shortages
As other reviewers have pointed out, this book by Stephen Leeb makes some straightforward points. We have a complex global civilization and a tricky national economy. And we have a large global population. That puts us all at risk in a number of ways.
4-0 out of 5 stars Infinitely annoying, but still important to read.
A lesson from Chicken Little: when you are announcing that the sky is falling, make your argument as palatable as possible to people who obviously don't want to hear it.

2-0 out of 5 stars International Business, 9th edition
As a first time instructor using this book, I was floored by the amount of useless data in the book that students must dig through to get to the important points of each chapter.Since the power point slides provided with the book only did an outline of the chapters, they were not of much help in giving a lecture. It was also absolutely amazing that a book that bills itself as being published in 2004 (but I received in 2003) is behind the times in a significant number of topics (e.g. it still refers to the G7 - not even mentioning the G8 even though I think it was about 1997 that the G8 became official). The section on religion was a perfect example of how to offend someone in another culture. The author needs to attend a diversity training course!A majority of the questions in the sample tests did not deal with topics that were significant in the chapters, but rather minor insignificant points. It may be the best book out there for an international business class but it shouldn't be priced the way it is for what is clearly an outdated edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative Guide for "Getting Started"
If I were planning to become a brain surgeon and found a book on that subject I would not expect that book to explain how to start doing brain surgery on my own the next day. Fortunately currency trading does not take nearly as long to master as brain surgery. This is one of the few books that will provide a good background for people interested in getting started in the business of currency trading. Once you have some background from an excellent book such as this one, you will then want to follow Michael Archer's advice and begin the path of education and training that is required for success.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good primer on the forex market
I purchased this book because I wanted a primer on the forex market and trading concepts used in that market. This book provides an overview of the forex market, which includes a brief history, the mechanics of trading, and an overview of fundamental and techinical analysis. While this book does not delve deeply into forex, it does serve as an excellent primer and thus lives up to its title of "Getting Started."

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Bang for the Buck
