5-0 out of 5 stars A great wake-up call to American business leaders... it's all about process innovation
As the book description says, Hamm gives you a rare glimpse into the mind of Wipro's charismatic chairman and thought leader, Azim Premji. Premji's adoption of world-class business processes helped Wipro thrive. Indeed, the Wipro Way will soon be a baseline for management, as was The Toyota Way in years past.
5-0 out of 5 stars More than Offshoring
While the book focuses on WIPRO (an Indian high tech company), it really is an insightful description of a major global economic shift. While the book focuses on a particular Indian company, it carries significant messages for North American companies - not only what we need to learn to be competitive, but also how we need to adjust to take advantage of the things that "WIPRO" brings to our businesses.I discovered that these Indian companies provide much more than low-cost labor for things like programming or phone services. They are building a whole new infrastructure to engage in the full gamut of development and innovation in high tech.

5-0 out of 5 stars A thought-provoking book
Kotabe/Helsen team has really set the standard for the international marketing textbook market.I have read three other similar textbooks, but there is no other book measuring up to this one. They offer an excellent analysis of market converging and diverging forces adding to the complexities of global marketing and how to cope with them.Although I am not an academic, this book provides great conceptual foundations so useful for me to use in preparing my own presentations to the executive board at my company. They have plenty of excellent, well thought-out real-life examples, and those examples are so well built in along with conceptual frameworks that I come away with a lot of useful, and more importantly, usable knowledge.

5-0 out of 5 stars A modern, analytical textbook on global marketing
I teach Global marketing and I think this textbook is the best. It is not full of anecdotal stories about global marketer's failures orsuccesses but very analytical with straightforward methods studentscan try out. The cases are excellent and support the theorical lectures very good. From my experience with the research literature it is state of the art.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very comprehensive yet user-friendly book
I am a doctoral student and have taught international marketing at a state university for a couple of years so far.Among several books I examined, Kotabe&Helsen book stands out in the crowd. It is a joy seeing my students actually enjoy reading the book and learn from it.This book is full of useful insights and timely examples. It is a must reading if you want to be a true professional in the international marketing area.Great! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Right On
Reading from the experienced perspective of an unemployed white-collar worker (IBM got rid of me 5 months ago after 28 years of hard work and dedication), there is truth in this book, even if the undercover job was not acquired. Ehrenreich's insight into the resulting leeches selling transitional services is right on -- people marketing $200 to $7000 services and clueless activities for finding a comparable job. If you are one of the nervously employed, I recommend reading this book. You will see what is in store for you should you wake up to corporate downsizing tomorrow, after having done everything right.
4-0 out of 5 stars White Collared
The premise of this social commentary is pretty straight forward. The author/investigator set out to find a corporate job and quickly found out the frustration involved in that process.
2-0 out of 5 stars Bait and switch indeed - most of the book not really aboutjob-searching
I really liked her "Nickel and dimed" book, enough so that I bought this one just on the strength of it. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent text for teaching and student research
One of the few marketing texts that discusses in detail the complexities of international and cross-cultural marketing. Thought-provoking. The case studies are interesting and unique, great material for class discussions and debates! A real resource for Master's level courses in marketing and international business. It's good for required reading or as a secondary text, to support a more step-by-step marketing text. The writing is sometimes a bit long-winded and not too easy to read, which is why I didn't give the book five stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading for active international marketers

5-0 out of 5 stars Very unique look into the biggest market for years to come.
The 86 Percent Solution : How to Succeed in the Biggest Market Opportunity of the Next 50 Years (Hardcover)
5-0 out of 5 stars Expert Guidance to Almost Unlimited Opportunities
With regard to the meaning and significance of the title, Mahajan and Banga explain that 86% of the world has a per capita gross national product (GNP) of less than $10,000 per year. So what? Not only do those markets represent the future of global commerce; "they also present rich opportunities for companies that have the imagination and creativity to envision [consumers within those markets]. But you won't recognize these opportunities through the lens of the developed world. You won't reach these consumers through the market strategies that work in the 14 percent markets. Developing markets have no smooth superhighways, no established consumer markets, no distribution networks, and, in many cases, no electricity. Developing markets are younger, behind in technology (but rapidly catching up), and inexperienced as consumers. These markets are very different. Yet with creative solutions tailored to their distinctive characteristics, ...you can realize the rich opportunities of these 86 percent markets."

3-0 out of 5 stars unorganised, simplistic, full of errors
This text is definately not an 'upper level' text. It is poorly organized, essential theoretical information is left out, there are abundant, unexcusable errors, and the middle third of the book is essentially a waste of paper.
4-0 out of 5 stars An econ book with real world uses!
Daniels and VanHoose have put together an easy to read, real world applicable textbook. The topics covered are upper level collegiate international finance, but it's presented in a down to earth, orderlyfashion. While I would have wanted color graphs, the full examples ofcomplex operations (derivatives hedging, theoretical currency exchangerates and the like) more than made up the difference. They separate theelitist mathematics from that which students want and need.As a collegestudent without a lot of time, that's a huge help. The most importantteaching tool used extensively throughout the book is historical data. Being able to show why in theory, give evidence, and then present thedeviations takes effort. There is no easy way to explain how the centralbanks around the world use different tactics in thier policies, but theygot through it. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars too rosy of a picture
I am going to quote Aihwa Ong - Antrhopology Professor from UC Berkeley who criticized "Modernity at Large" since I cannot state it any better than her:
4-0 out of 5 stars An ambitious attempt, and some provocative thinking
Appadurai's book, Modernity at Large, offers quite a few tools to help us think about that big fuzzy thing called "globalization."He coins quite a few words to describe multiply-constituted networks of culture - ethnoscapes, mediascapes, ideoscapes, financescapes, and technoscapes. All are different ways of looking at the global cultural flows that we're trying to describe, and all are strongly influenced by perspective, overlapping, and rapidly shifting (though the term doesn't quite capture the instability and mutability of global cultural flows).
1-0 out of 5 stars A waste of time
Obtuse and without meaning in the real world.Appaduarai needs to set foot on real soil and realize the world is not created, nor can it be defined behind ivy walls.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Introduction to Globalization
This is a solid, although biased, introduction to globalization.Bhagwati defends many practices associated with the general term "globalization."He offers reliable explanations based in mainstream economics for why globalization works. He also is critical of certain aspects of globalization, especially issues related to "hot money" financial flows.
4-0 out of 5 stars Review on "In Defense of Globalization"
Good reference book, but somewhat technical and not the most organized.

3-0 out of 5 stars Globalism's Indian perspective
The author attempts to have a fairly rational conversation about a topic that often arouses exceptionally heated rhetoric.

5-0 out of 5 stars realistic guide to the developing world
The book provides a hard hitting summary of both the risks and opportunities of the developing countirs. It also included a lot of solutions to the problems one faces. I liked the way in which it addressed issues from an operating company, equity investor's, and lender's perspectives.Nobody else does that. The anecdotes on various regions were entertaining.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!
Former investment banker Jeffrey C. Hooke now carries out financial deals in the developing world. He describes the potential for doing business or investing in the world's 156 emerging markets. Hooke is realistic about the great risks - such as unstable governments in impoverished countries - but he highlights future potential. His book is a solidly researched and clearly written guide to assessing the business climate and deciding what types of products make the most sense in different developing countries. After an overview of the nature of emerging markets, why companies want to participate in or avoid these markets, and how to invest and make loans there, he looks at particular markets in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe and Africa. We [...] recommend this worthy book to those considering working or investing in emerging markets, but academics or readers interested in how business is conducted in foreign places may also be intrigued.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introductory book on Analysis for FM
It is one of the best books I have ever used for course reference. One of the reviewers (on the back cover) taught me the Corporate Finance course at HBS with this book as the reference text and it was a great learning experience. I also find this book as a great reference material for my CFA exam. Can't wait to get my hands on the next edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent introductory text
Unlike most textbooks the book by Higgins can actually be an engaging read. It doesn't get into too many technical details on any of the subject matters covered, but includes some interesting sections that I haven't found in other general (and much heavier) financial management books. For instance, I liked the appendix on the venture capital method of valuation and the explanation on how venture capitalists arrive at a required percentage ownership given multiple rounds of financing.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great introduction to Finance

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Big Picture" and "Very Long Run" view. Excellent Book!
Traditional wisdom about investing is full of conflicting messages. We all heard that past performance doesn't guarantee future results (means it's hard to say about future based on the past data). But at the same time, we are told that US stocks are expected to return about 8% annually based on the past performance (means it would be reasonable to expect 40%+ return over 5 years). And at the same time, in Q1'06 Dow is still lower then it was 5 years ago (hmm, if 5 years is not a long run, what is?). Each statement describes the US market, sounds simple and straightforward, but they are giving conflicting views, so this knowledge is not really helpful. Simple, but doesn't make sense.
4-0 out of 5 stars Common SenseApproach to Investing
I find this book informative, candid and very refreshing. The author is able to apply his broad expertise not only in analysing past events affecting world markets, but is able to project himself and the reader forward into possible future scenarios in the world markets. His premise is that future financial growth will be found in Asia, particularly China, with the USA and Europe lagging behind. His insight is useful to those who wish to position themselves early into an expansionary wave of financial profits. The information is based on sound research, uncommon knowledge, and a huge dose of common sense. This book is well worth the time it takes to read and the money it costs to purchase. Enjoy and learn!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A book that one can go back from time to time
I first got to know Marc Faber on reading articles of financialsense.com. I then researched his book along with Jim Rogers' on Amazon.com. I bought both and more.

Issues of race have become central to American historiography in the past generation or so, and no modern historian of the American colonial era (or any other era afterwards, for that matter) can justifiably ignore its impact. Yet despite this, it is astonishing how little of the African political, social and cultural origins of New World slave populations is brought to bear on analyses of the Atlantic world. This relatively slim yet dazzlingly efficient book amply redresses this blind spot. In addition, the passivity customarily attributed to Africans is swept aside and replaced with a much more realistic and complex agency asserted on both sides of the Atlantic. It is truly astounding how much Thornton is able to cover in such detail within a mere 334 pages that include a rather general and theoretical introduction to Atlantic historiography with its roots in Fernand Braudel's pioneering "Annaliste" school of regional history, and an initial chapter on the birth of the modern Atlantic world as a whole (albeit with a recurrent focus on Africa's role).
