5-0 out of 5 stars Very solid book
As someone new to OLAP, I found this book to be VERY helpful really getting a solid handle on OLAP.My company needed to understand and move forward on building a OLAP solution. This book helped my get a handle on what we needed to do, and a high level of how to go about it.
5-0 out of 5 stars More than just a great read
In my mind this book is defintely the most definitive guide to dimensional modeling.Although there are some chapters (the last two that deals with process and other issues, the biggest part of the book is solely about dimensional modeling. Yes the first chapter deals with what it is (in general), why we would like to use dimensional modeling and some myths and caveats. However, from chapter 2 through 12, the book is hand-on.
5-0 out of 5 stars The standard
If you only have time to read one book about dwh, read this one. It gives beguinners a complete overview about the most important aspects (technologies and techniques) involved, for the advanced one this book a good reverece (especially in terms of data modelling).

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
It is up to date with all the necessary info to jump right into an organization and take charge!Well written.

5-0 out of 5 stars great book
I bought the book for a class but I highly reccommend it to anyone aspiring to be a leader in their given profession.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good motivational book
Leadership is to be an active process that gathers people to participate in a common vision.Leaders are to set a good example, take risks, encourage others, and never quit.Although the authors present their book as a new approach to leadership, they share nothing that is original. For instance, under "Model the Way," leaders are encouraged to follow the Biblical principle of Matthew 5:37- "But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'" (NKJV), and of Ephesians 4:29- "Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them (NLT)."In "Encourage the Heart," the authors appear to utilize B.F. Skinner's "operant conditioning" theory by suggesting leaders to provide rewards and congratulate people for work-related achievements."Enable Others to Act" is built on the principle of teamwork as found in 1 Corinthians 12:12-27- "The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up only one body... each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it" (NLT).From a secular standpoint, the book offers good insight; however, from a Biblical leadership model, it falls short in certain areas. For example, the best leader to model is the one who models Christ- "Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ" (1 Cor. 11:1 NKJV), while the attitude of a leader should be: "Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men" (NASB).Leadership should never be taken lightly, in fact the Bible says, "Let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment" (James 3:1). The real challenge for leaders is to exhibit Christ-likeness in the workplace by achieving success without succumbing to greed and resisting the temptation for power and prestige, while gathering workers to work as "one body." ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Old stuffs in a new bottle--save your money
It seems to me that most of the stuffs covered in this book have already been covered several times in other books already in market. I challenge any reader to prove me wrong. That means anyone who can find that more than 10% of whatever this book says about leadership is by any means NEW. 10% is a low standard for a book aiming to help you "lead at high level". right?
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation...
Not only does this book bring together years of research, but it also aggregates the minds of multiple leaders in the Blanchard organization. If you haven't read the other books coming out of the Ken Blanchard Companies, you'll definitely want to read this book. If you have read the others, this will be a great refresher and it provides a different format. As you know, many of the Blanchard books are in story format (aka parables) and now those story-based lessons are gathered into a more standard non-fiction book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
Good overview on what you need to consider before you start your own business.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's... OK.
The presentation of this book is excellent; It holds the reader's interest quite well. However, despite a recent "update", it shows it's age when the author regularly goes off on dot-com tangents, bringing the internet up in contexts that I believe the last few years have proven are not viable. Good grief, ppl. This isn't freaking 1997! We need a business text, not the wet dreams of a bunch of computer geeks turned businessmen! Anyways, if you are looking for a text with a lot of depth, look elsewhere. This book is to business textbooks what Quickbooks(c)(R)(TM) is to accounting software. In short, don't waste your money, unless you need it for a class. If so, be happy. If your prof teaches out of this, your tests will be very easy.

5-0 out of 5 stars I've never read a more interactive book!
I have read a lot of books recently to increase my work knowledge, and I have to say that this book was the easiest and most fun to read. The writers have done an excellent job getting the reader involved, which increases the amount of information one is able to remember. This book is a real pionner in how to write educative books.Oh, yea, and the content was outstanding!

5-0 out of 5 stars Telling Aint Training
Great book!! Any body in the training field should get a copy. Herald Stolovitch and Erica Keeps keep the reader involved throughout the entire book with constant examples and activities that are very interesting and fun. I am in the US military and training is constant in my job. Techniques are drawn out and easy to understand, making it easy for anybody to comprehend and transfer to their own training. The use of the five step training model really sets up how a training session should be held. I will use this book over and over again in the development of my professional training career.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gets to the Heart of Training
Stolovitch gets to the heart of training--changing the behavior of the trainees. Whether you are giving a short speech or conducting a three day training session, Stolovitch shows how simply dumping facts (what everybody does) is never effective. This message can not be said enough. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick Read, excellent motivator!
I loved this book. I recommend purchasing it for anyone in sales. I gained some truly interesting tidbits. The website and newsletter for Jeff Gitomer really adds to the overall enjoyment of learning better sales techniques.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Changed the way I thought about the selling process!
Gitomer's book helped me turn my slumping sales career into a blossoming cash cow.I found his ideas especially useful in the real estate profession. The relationships I was able to build with my potential customers solidified their trust in me and allowed the buying process to move forward, smoothly and efficiently. This is the second book of Jeffrey's that I have bought and each one gets better and better, chock full of new idea and strategies.

5-0 out of 5 stars WARNING: If You Don't Want Stronger Business Relationships and More Sales, Don't Read This Book
Much like most small business owners, I wear many different hats in my business. This book simply took hold of my sales hat and my head and screwed them on properly! What an interesting view when you're looking at things the right way.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not one of Womack's best works
I personally do a vast amount of reading with lean enterprise being of special interest. Womack has done some great work, but this is a "tough read" even for serious lean enthusiasts. I typically finish a book of this length within 2-3 days then re-read it and highlight. It literally took me 11 weeks because I was lulled to a point in which reading further would be of no benefit and would have to put it back on the shelf and revisit it days later. I realize that scholarly and business writing is not especially exciting as I am constantly reading and doing research but this one was tough even for me, an avid reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars Common Sense isn't so Common
This book provides a very unique perspective on how to run a business. These methodologies can be applied to any industry, as the authors suggest.
5-0 out of 5 stars LEAN as it expands
After reading "The machine that saved the world" (which I recommend reading before this one) from the same great authors, I got more and more interested in the LEAN concept. As described in this book, by 1996, LEAN became a way of thinking and operating, expanding around the world in several industries. Although this book gives a clear explanation of LEAN principles, it is still oriented into manufacturing. This book is not enough if you are willing to implement LEAN in your organization, but rather convinces you of applying it if you are still hesitating. Check out the latest book in this series "Lean Solutions: How Companies and Customers Can Create Value and Wealth Together". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Important Distinctions for Leader, Manager, Individual
What a pleasant surprise this book is.I admit I was reluctant to pick it up because in my experience as a management consultant there is always more than "One Thing" to managing a situation successfully. So I found the premise questionable. However the book came highly recommended and Buckingham's First Break All the Rules was so useful and succinct that I decided to give it a try.I'm glad I did.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile Read
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It is well written and includes a good balance of information mixed with real life examples and stories. I really agree with the author's conclusions, having been in business management and leadership myself for 30 years.

4-0 out of 5 stars a different definition of consistency
This entry in Ken Blanchard's One Minute Manager Library uses the narrative style that has for better or worse become standard in business literature to teach `situational leadership' in terms of flexibility, diagnosis, and partnering.
5-0 out of 5 stars By Far My Favorite
This is by far my favorite Blanchard book. Situational Leadership is now MY leadership style!

5-0 out of 5 stars Clear and simple book on situational leadership
I am a fan of the One Minute Manager series, having read "The One Minute Manager" and the "The One Minute Manager Meets the Monkey."This booktells the story of an "entrepreneur" who seeks advice from the One Minute Manager. In the process, it covers the basics of situational leadership in a concise, easy to read style. The text covers the four basic leadership styles -- directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating. It also discusses matching a leadership style appropriate for various development levels.Like the other One Manager Manager books, I see myself re-reading and referencing this text.Highly recommended. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I used this text in my MBA stats class and have found it to be very informative and useful.I found the examples for Excel and Minitab to be well written and of great use.I would recommend this book for anyone who uses statistics on a frequent basis or simply would like a good reference manual in their library.

1-0 out of 5 stars 12th ed. has problems
The 12th edition of this book contains a surprising number of errors.I am currently using this book for a statistics course in an MBA program. We are twelve chapters into the book now and in most every chapter I have found a mistake; more often than not there are multiple mistakes. What is worse is that the majority of the mistakes are in the practice problems which are where the student learns to apply the skills. This serves to create confusion and frustration on the student's part. Some of the mistakes are sloppy editing while others more significant are providing wrong information. The editors need to take another look at this book and the authors should also take note.

4-0 out of 5 stars For making managers remember what really matters
This book is full of information of things that current managers have forgotten. Every new project is wanted done with less money, less time and with higher quality than old projects, putting a lot of pressure to the project team. Managers do things that they believe is good for the project but actually damages the project (and the company) at long term. I have seen many co-workers leave my company for issues like the ones described in this book. Managers and company owners: Please read it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Lean book at there on Product Development
Lean originated on the production floor over sixty years ago in Japan. But Toyota product development has been sadly overlooked by corporate America. Where is the connection between Toyota stellar production practices and Toyota product development? You can't argue with the tried and true principles to systematically eliminating waste--that is the bedrock of the lean philosophy. Lean thinking is making inroads to a number of different environments and industries beyond discrete assembly like car making. Does waste occur in non-manufacturing? Oh yes, and it has largely been an untapped, dormant opportunity for applying lean. Improvement initiatives are being re-focused on office settings and now product development. There aren't many product development(PD)lean books out there but, Liker's book is excellent--it is so thorough, well researched, logical and well written! A lean novice may have difficulty because it is not "lean 101" and PD is not quite the same as lean manufacturing. But, if I forced to pick a single book on lean product development--this would be my #1 pick. It is such a good start point for lean PD. The lean benefits are self evident: cut development time in half and never miss milestones? That's has been the Toyota norm. Liker's book will walk you thru the 14 principles on how to get there the subsystem levels (Processes-People-Tools/Technology). If your PD efforts are adrift, it's reassessment time. Start here. You won't be sorry.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read
A very detailed and at times difficult read. However, it is a must for anyone involved in product development.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Toyota Product Development System
I found Morgan and Liker's new book The Toyota Product Development System to be an excellent discussion of the key fundamentals that are missing in Detroit today based on my experience in the automotive industry. The most important reason Toyota is best is because of the way they develop and value people. This book describes the basics required to build a great Engineering organization. Engineering is the foundation that drives cost, quality and timing. This book should be required reading for everyone in the automobile industry from top management down.Morgan and Liker provide a great map for going forward for any company that designs and manufactures a product regardless of industry. The key is to start the Journey. This book is a great place to start. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Introductory
This isn't a bad text for an introduction to management in IT. It's not technical and certainly places emphasis on managing IT infrastructures. If you're moving up from being a follower to directing and managing employees and departments, then this book may help to get you a glimpse into it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent General Overview of the IT Industry as of 1/06.
I have never left a review on Amazon before (I've been a customer since 1997) and had no intention of doing so, when I initially searched this book description for some unrelated information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent concept; a bit repetitive
This book offers a great way to approach difficult conversations. There are several templates in the book to show the reader how to do this. However, after reading it, it does tend to repeat certain aspects of the material.I am sure that some of that is for effect; but for someone who is capable of applying material quickly it can be somewhat boring.I still recommend it as a read, but I do not recommend that you need to completely read the book to get the overall message.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good content-very dry
The content is excellent but she narrated her own book and it's very dry to listen too.I recommend buying the book and working through that.

5-0 out of 5 stars It really works!
The information and the examples in the book are easily applied and really do make a difference.I used the book as a reference working with first line managers; it is especially useful to them in confronting passive aggressive communication styles. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Thought provoking reading... but not convincing
I toally aggree that pattern recognizers and somebody who can see the big picture will lead the world. Right-brain activity adds color and mystry to our lives while left-brain activity let us understand why things they are. But fundamentally one has to have strong L-Directed skills to excel on anything at all. The L-Directed skills can be aquired later at life but R-Directed skills are more of natural. The book make us feel like if we all go persuit those R-Directed skills, we will all better off. To me, in the real world, it is only for thos ones who already master R-brain skills and happend to have some L-Brain potentials which has not been exploired.

3-0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking but...
A Whole New Mind is the kind of book that many life coaches will love. Pink presents ideas that will reassure us we can have fun while reaching success. Creativity wins. Meaning matters more than money. Your job (and even your industry) could be automated or exported out of existence.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worth reading
In this book, the author says that just like how we moved from the industrial age to the information age (computerization), now we are moving from the information age to a new era called "conceptual age". With the effects of globalization and abundant wealth in the western world (especially in US), there will be an increased demand for the right brain skills like creativity and empathy. Though it "feels" to be little exaggerated, it is quite interesting and worth reading. ... Read more
