5-0 out of 5 stars Worth It!
Outlines the things that waste time and the things that make money. Always a good motivator.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most complete sales books of all time.
The "Sales Bible" is a masterpiece. This is one of the most complete books on sales that I have ever read. When I became a sales leader four years ago this was the first sales book our team read together. The practical sales tips and techniques Jeffrey Gitomer discloses in this book are priceless.I have a sales rep that tells everyone that will listen that "The Sales Bible" is the reason he tripled his income in less than three years!David Otis Author of "Walk Fast, Talk Loud and Smile.

4-0 out of 5 stars covers important techniques, buta bit unorganized and long
A very long book of over 300 pages.Very useful information in this book, but I found it to be too wordy and long, too much nonsense. It's hard to go back and find the usefull information. He tries to be too entertaining and all I want is the facts/techniques. Ironic, he advises to not sound like a salesman and to listen more then you speak, but then he goes and does just that. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Raise your batting average
Not only is Koegel's book the perfect "how-to" manual for public speakers, Koegel's simple (yet seldom followed) guidelines have been very effective for the sales professionals within my organization.A company may have a great product or service, but they will lose sales unless they can effectively communicate their value proposition.Make every presentation, including marketing presentation count - Koegel's techniques have raised the "batting average" of my firm's sales team. This book is a must read for public speakers, managers AND sales professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Exceptional Presenter is also an exceptional writer
If only all self-help books were like this one...

I read this book while waiting between flights at an airport in Florida. As a motivational speaker, I can truly say that I have never read anything better on the subject of how to be an outstanding presenter.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my first book on selling, one of the classics
When I started as a sales engineer, out of university at 27 yo (ok, so I was kind of slow) and lured into a company by my boss who saw a great potential in selling for me, eventhough I told him i never sold even a needle in my life, I bought this book a year later in a fleamarket, the cover was worn down, the edition older than me.. its true what they say, you cannot judge a book by its cover..
5-0 out of 5 stars If you want success, read this book!
This book is wonderful. The book highlights the key points of becoming successful in sales and any other facet of life. The book is simple, easy to read, and information packed. This book would benefit anyone of any age.If you want to become successful, add this book to your own personal library today!
5-0 out of 5 stars I am a believer
Alright...alright. Admittedly I tried to find flaws in this book because 5 stars from every reader is just unheard of. Well, I see why now. This is a great book. I like Joe Girard's book on selling but this book is better because it's not very manipulitive. It's not really deceiving like a car salesman tactics. It's borderline teaching you proper manners. It's funny, I have read many sales books recently and all of the author's write about these same principles. This book is great to read over and over again to get inspired. If you are in to any type of sales, even MLM this book should be studied. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars What Does it Take to Motivate Employees?
"The Enthusiastic Employee" was written to extend the knowledge of what works and what doesn't to managers at all levels. What sets this book apart from most management books is the fact that it is based on official research. The authors do not merely present their own ideas on what sound management is all about. They actually back up everything they recommend using years of official research. Case studies and official employee attitude surveys spanning a period of about thirty years form the basis of the advice given in this book. This adds to the book's overall usefulness because it illustrates, in black and white, exactly what employees want in their jobs and what management needs to do in order to facilitate change and improve working conditions and performance.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why is this great book atranked at 21,463 in today's Amazon Sales Rank?
When I scan through the impressive comments here, I am amazed that this book isn't purchased by everyone who wants to motivate employee performance to the highest levels. The authors refer to it as The Three Factor Theory, but it hasn't been a theory for me since I first learned how to give employees what they want over thirty years ago in the J.C. Penney Company.
4-0 out of 5 stars Well-researched insights on improving workplace morale
Just about anyone who supervises other people would benefit from reading this book, which reports the findings of three decades of research involving some 2.5 million employees in 237 companies. The book's research-based motivational strategies are immediately applicable to your company's morale and productivity. Authors David Sirota, Louis A. Mischkind and Michael Irwin Meltzer deliver revealing statistics, useful definitions and illuminating case histories in pretty accessible prose, given the book's survey-driven foundation. The one lack is that they do not set guidelines for distinguishing legitimately dissatisfied employees from the few workers who will never have a good attitude - no matter what you do. And, as the authors make clear, some managers are set in their ways, habitually act superior to their workers and will not tend to employee motivation. For such managers, this book - and most others - will prove useless. However, if you have an open mind and genuinely want to improve morale and productivity, we recommend this thorough work on motivation. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good. Helpful. Compelling-ish.
The parable of the software company in crisis was not the most thrilling read in the world, but considering it was means toward teaching me about the exciting world of corporate meetings, it was both effective and not boring.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hit Hard and Straight: A good use of my five hours
When I picked up this book I knew that there were some elements that I liked. It hooked me in the first ten-minutes because it held my attention just like a movie. It kept things going in a readible, conflict-change methodology as if I were watching it unfold like a television drama. It had a taste for talent, gossip, relationships, oh yeah and management tools that I could use too. This was a phenom book and would recommend it to anyone who's meeting did the suck dance like mine did.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting on the Same Page
Death by Meeting has been an excellent resource for our team.It provided us a common format for discussion and planning that was quick to read and easy to implement. The difference between this book on meetings and most leadership books on anything is that other teammembers actaully READ the book.

From Internet travel planning and PDAs to computer applications common to office procedures, Administrative Assistant's And Secretary's Handbook provides an important reference not to be missed by any serious professional.

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay
This is a book written in 1995 and yet there is a whole chapter on DOS and other outdated technology. No office still uses DOS!With the ever changing technology in today's world, the author would have been so much better off skipping that whole chapter.Letter formats and telephone etiquette will still apply ten years from now, but when talking of computers; today's newest is tomorrow's obsolete. So get this book for general office information but not to become computer savvy or to learn of the software businesses are now using. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An indispensible and seminal text!!
Kolb's "Experiential Learning" is a masterpiece. In it, he deftly synthesizes the strands of learning theory and psychological research that inform his 4 stage learning cycle. All committed "experiential educators" should consult this book in order more deeply to understand the deep and rich conceptual foundation(s) of our potent pedagogical practice. In his "Foreword" to the volume, Leadership guru Warren Bennis positively hyperventilates in applauding Kolb's achievement in this work. And for good reason! From thence comes Kolb's elegant & powerful "Learning Styles Inventory" (or LSI), among other things. Even if you're a cynic or skeptic re: the merit of experiential education, you would do well to peruse this tour-de-force in order better to appreciate what you may be missing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Please pass the molasses
When one encounters the word " dialectic" while reading academic texts it should be as a clear signal as a fire to forest ranger that trouble is on the horizon. This statement may be a bit of an exaggeration but it woulddefinitely be accurate to say that Kolb's Experiential Learning is no easyread. Of course, this does not diminish the value of the book, in spite ofdifficult passages. Ironically, this is the essence of the concept of"dialectic". Liberal doses of psychology are ladled throughout thebook as the masters (Piaget, Jung, et. al) are consistently consulted toback up theory. Although not professing to have knowledge about psychology,it is clear that their work is essential to establish the interrelationshipbetween cognition and experiential learning. Theory of learning and theopposing learning styles of apprehension and comprehension are explored. This book is clearly the cure for a stubborn case of insomnia. I can't saythat the book is without merit, however, because it held some greatinformation that will be useful now and in future applications when I havethe chance to practice my current endeavors. Some passages even caused asense of anticipation for the succeeding ones because there was aconsiderable amount of interesting information that I had not yet pondered.I would compare this book to putting molasses on pancakes on a winter day.It is thick and doesn't go down easily but great once you warm up to it ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Well written book.
This is a well-written book, which provides a generalist approach to dealing with cross-cultural issues with many excellent examples. The core idea of the book is based on the Hofstede model. One of the central criticisms of this model has been that nation state and culture are always presumed to be the same. Local culture does not follow political boundaries. The authors seem to be unable to avoid this trap. Cultural Intelligence gives good insights on how to notice "Cultural Cruise-Control" and change own way of thinking. Providing some practical tools would have added to the value of this book, but this is a good book for international managers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cultural Intelligence
Author presented interesting views and provide readers clear concept of issues in working with people of cultural diversity.

5-0 out of 5 stars A thorough and very useful guide
This is a detailed survival manual for those who are new to working across cultures. Its aim is to help such people to raise their 'cultural intelligence' - their understanding of cultural diffrences and their impact and their skill with tools to recognize and overcome misunderstanding and failures of communication based on differing cultural expectations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook.
I was required to purchase this book for a project management course and it's one of the better texts I've read on the topic.Well organized and easily referenced, one of the main strengths of the book is it's analysis of real world examples.Very good text overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Price for "External Evironments"
Leigh Thompson has done it again.Like few others this Northwestern University scholar takes current research and puts it on the page like few other experts.I particularly found the sections on dealing with conflict within teams, creativity, and social capital (in the External Evironment section) worth reading.I keep this book with me when I am meeting with a team.I use the individual chapters as a guide for activities there. If you have an interest in teams, Leigh Thompson is the one expert you should include in your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making the Team Makes the Grade!
Whether you work in teams, design them, or study them, you will find much of value in this book.Drawing on a wealth of social and behavioral science findings, Leigh Thompson shows the advantages, and the pitfalls, ofgetting things done through teamwork.Clearly written, with many caseexamples, Thompson builds on her research and consulting experiences tocreate a complex picture of what makes groups tick. I particularly likedher explanation of how to foster creativity in teams, as well as how todeal with the inevitable conflicts that arise. She notes that teams are nota panacea. However, under the right conditions, properly organized teamscontribute substantially to their organizations. If you're dissatisfiedwith the way things are going in your organization, this book would make agreat (anonymous?) gift for your boss! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars First Impressions
If first impressions are lasting impressions, the points made in this book should last a lifetime for its readers.
4-0 out of 5 stars Thin
I like reading "How-to" books. So obviously I couldn't miss this one.As far as I liked what was inside, the problem is that there wasn't much of it.The book is extremely thin and for that reason I cannot give it 5 stars.Out of other "how-to" books my favorite are "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegi and especially"Never Eat Alone" by Keith Ferrazzi

2-0 out of 5 stars ***
Simple advice, but that's often the best kind. I've been told I'm quite socially adept, so I read this book mainly because I liked Brian Tracy's other books, and this had a few helpful pointers I hadn't considered before. I do think the authors put a land mine near the beginning of the book by holding Bill Clinton as an example of a charmer worth emulating!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, but I've read Christopher Hitchens' paperback edition of NO ONE LEFT TO LIE TO that includes the chapter about Clinton's history of rape. So Clinton is very arguably a sociopath and so right off the book gives the impression of perhaps being a guide for snake oil salesmen, or worse. But it actually preaches being genuine for the most part. I do know people who could use this book. And heard of them. A relative of mine knows the owner of a video rental store in the heart of a very wealthy Silicon Valley neighborhood. This neighborhood is filled with computer millionaires. And these millionaires are largely computer nerds. This video shop owner was complaining that his business was doing poor. Someone told him, "This neighborhood is filled with millionaires, BUT THEY ARE ALL COMPUTER DORKS WITH NO SOCIAL SKILLS. So their love lives are nil. Stock your store with porno and your business will go through the roof." And he was right. After the owner changed his inventory, busines sky-rocketed. This video store was many of these wealthy computer nerds' main sexual outlet. Even though they were filthy rich, their love lives were zero! That shows you how important charm and social skills are toward obtaining a full life! For people like that this book would be very valuable. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good guidance for Women
Working in a male-dominated company in a male-dominated field (sales) I had noticed some of the behaviors mentioned in this book. However, "Hardball" gave me insight into WHY I saw these behaviors and how to deal with them. The book is getting a little dated (the power suit/skirt is out, the power suit with slacks is the choice of women executives these days) but still very good information. You must keep in mind that not ALL men think this way - as with all generalizations you have to keep flexible and adapt to the situation. A must read for any woman who is mystified by the behaviors she sees around her and wants to move up in the corporate world. ... Read more
