5-0 out of 5 stars Best personal finance book out there
David Bach wrote a personal finance and investment book that anyone can benefit from, no matter how old or young you are or what your financial situation is.David wrote the book in a very approachable, comprehensive format so the reader should walk away with many ideas about how to improve his or her financial situation. You will probably not agree with every word on every page (and David probably wouldn't want it that way), and for example, I am very happy being a renter at the moment rather than taking on a mortgage, and I have very good reasons for doing so.
5-0 out of 5 stars There's hope for anyone!
Excellent and informative. It got me really excited about planning for my future, even if you are at middle age. It really points out what you SHOULD know about your finances and how to find out what you don't know by giving you alot of links to look up. It was really helpful in explaining the 401k and how to invest for it. Mostly, I found it inspiring. It made me want to go out and be somebody!

5-0 out of 5 stars Start Late, Finish Rich
I just finished the book. Based on additional financial information presented in the book, I now have an action item list to finish rich with a late start. As far as the information on employment is concerned, I now have better direction on how to become a great employee and not just a good one. Answering the questions honestly provided me that direction. I will admit, I have to go back and really read the chapters on real estate. With owning my own home, I already have a head start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Enough for American Investors, Lack International Perspectives
Tobias writes a bible in personal financial investment without the lack of humor and personal touch. He is clear on investing principles he preaches, states his opinions precisely and still provide overviews of investments he believes are pure baloney.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not rich but comfortable
This is the only investment book I can get my husband to read.I gave copies of the 1987 edition to my sons when they graduated from college and I am giving them the 2005 edition as they approach 40.Tobias has been consistent with his advice over the years. He does not promise to make you rich but he gives guidelines for ending up with a comfortable retirement; partly by getting one to acknowledge what one does not know.

3-0 out of 5 stars Getting Started in Real Estate
This was an all around decent book for someone desiring to get started in the real estate business. It has 30 short chapters focusing on getting into the real estate business with no money. One of which is called tapping the equity in your home. Nothing really new there. The book contains some good concepts but a lot was just common sense. If you haven't bought real estate before and don't no much about financing then this will open up your eyes to some concepts that you may not have thought of before. There is a chapter on why you should own property. One on negotiations, one on using partners and another on overcoming roadblocks to your success. There is also a chapter on how to retire in 5 years. All in about 280 pages that will go by quick.
4-0 out of 5 stars Stuff
Some of it kinda sounds farfetched, but I guess if sellers are desperate enough it could work.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boycott Robert G. Allen!!!
Robert G. Allen is a notorious and relentless internet spammer. If you should happen to somehow end up on one of his email lists like I did, he will send you several junk emails a day.Unsubscribing doesn't work, and trying to block the sender's domain is useless because the emails are sent from a different domain every time. The funny part is that the emails aren't even coded properly. They always show up as just a bunch of html code.Would you really take internet money-making advice from a guy who can't even code html properly?Anyway, his spamming practices are completely illegal and it's only a matter of time before the law catches up with him.But that shouldn't come as any surprise considering that mister Allen has been in trouble with the law before. He's had several run-ins with the IRS, lawsuits against him, and a chapter 7 bankruptcy.I would also stay away from his Nothing Down real estate methods. Many of those practices are illegal, and the president of the Nothing Down club in Atlanta wound up in federal prison because of it.For more info on Allen, visit johntreed dottcomm, click on Real Estate Investing, then click Real Estate Guru Ratings.Bottom line, don't trust this guy and don't buy his books. And if you're reading this Mr. Allen, take me off your @%#&*$ mailing list!!! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great original book on coaching - still work a read!
This book was outstanding when it first came out - and it has truly stood the test of time. Sir John provides a welcome breath of reach air from the often all too frequent US-based and over-hyped coaching genre. Along with Thomas Lenard, Sir John Whitmore is one of the real pioneers of life coaching and workplace coaching. A great book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The "Grandfather" of Coaching Books - and Still One of the Best!
This book, now in its third edition, is the grandfather of coaching books and approaches. Much of what has come to be known as professional business coaching came from Timothy Gallway and Whitmore's sports training techniques. As such, the book provides a simple foundation for coaching based on the context of awareness and responsibility through asking questions and listening. He presents the G R O W model of coaching - Goal, Reality, Option, Will - as a format for coaching sessions.
2-0 out of 5 stars Difficult leap from tennis to business
I used this book for a class on coaching and developing employees. There were eleven people in the class that read the book and each was very disappointed. The overall conclusion was that the author should stick to sports, as the attempt to link the priciples to business was too far of a stretch. We will not be using this book again. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Shady Advertising
Had I known about the holy roller content throughout this book (especially in one chapter, but sprinkled throughout), I wouldn't have bought it. I wouldn't have a problem with it at all...except for the fact that such religiously-based content was concealed in the title, description (on the back), & introduction (in the front & back flaps). There was no mention of God, Jesus, Bible, etc. in any of these places. If this author is so keen on using his religious beliefs (inner-mingled with an extremely secular, materialistic topic) to turn a profit...fine. But at least be honest about it. Isn't that one of the tenets of Christianity? If the author is so devoted to his faith, perhaps he shouldn't be shy (shamed?) about shouting from the rooftops that his book is about money and Jesus.
5-0 out of 5 stars Repair
I bought this book in 1998 after my Chapter 7 bankruptcy.I give this book the credit for me now having a credit score of over 700.I was told by Mr. Synder of a great secured credit card at that time "FCNB" (not available anymore) that was one of the best to help repair credit.I have always paid low interest rates on cars (1.9% thru Honda) and purchased a brand new (just built) home in 2002.I have purchased boats and four wheelers all financed thru reputable lenders.I loved this book!!!I really liked the part where it explained how you need to get a copy of your credit report after discharge and make sure all the outstanding balances are changed to zero.I believe that was the best tip ever.I had a finance manager at a auto dealer tell me I had the best looking bankruptcy credit report ever.

5-0 out of 5 stars Addresses issues of significant importance in the wealth management process
As principal of a financial planning and wealth management firm, I highly recommend this book for families who have acquired wealth and want their children and future generations to be concerned about their human, intellectual and social development in addition to the growth of their financial resources.
4-0 out of 5 stars Recognizing the importance of human and intellectual capital in family business settings
I have read many books on the subject of family businesses, and this book has done an excellent job in recognizing that the development of human and intellectual capital in families is a precondition for the continued development of financial capital.

5-0 out of 5 stars Invaluable for the novice
When searching for a good teaching tool/reference for first time home buying, the list of publications can be endless and confusing. This one book will lead you step by step through each of the processes involved.Having NO PRIOR HOME BUYING KNOWLEDGE, I eagerly opened this book with highlighter in hand, reading cover to cover on all topics from finding an honest agent to buying fixer-uppers, researching mortgages, neighborhoods, etc., even whether you should consider renting vs. buyng, and all the little details in between. You will learn things you never knew before, and I found myself constantly referring to many chapters throughout our experience in searching for a home. I recommend this book to anyone seeking stratightforward and easy to understand info, no fancy jargon to cut through, just plain language writing on a very in depth subject. The book's lay out is reader-friendly as well, making it very simple to locate exactly the subject you need. Don't pass this one up!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good For First Time Home Buyer with No Resources
I am trying to buy my first condo and I bought this to try and help me since I didn't really have anyone to ask questions. The book is very generic since home buying varies quite a bit from state to state and sometimes within states.
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy this book!
I bought this book and "A Complete Idiot's Guide..." If you want in depth details on buying a home, then this is the book for you. The other one was too fluffy and general and didn't really explain anything. I knew NOTHING about buying a home and this book takes you step by step and teaches what you need to know. Should buy or rent? Are your finances in order? What can you afford? They answer all your questions before you even leave chapter 1!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for Fundamental Investors
First, I just want to say that many of you might find this book boring to read. If that turn out to be the case, you can read the commentary (which uses more relevant and recent examples) for each chapter by Jason Zweig, which is worth the price of the book alone.I got tempted to read the commentary only but I forced myself to read the entire book and I'm glad I did it.Warren Buffett is right, this is the best book on investing ever written, by far. This is one of the reasons in my opinion why Warren himself never write an investment book (plus the fact that it is not easy to explain Warren's intelligent on a paper.Instead just learn from what he does).
5-0 out of 5 stars Preeminent guide to value investing
This is a classic investment guide for anyone interested in acquiring a solid foundation of the investment concepts and principles used by serious investors.
4-0 out of 5 stars An Annotated Classic
I enjoyed this book, for two reasons.First, it gives us the accumulated wisdom of one of the best investors ever in our markets.Second, the annotations by Zweig provide some updated historical context, so that we can see how the environment has changed.Graham's central point is to invest in such a way as to maintain a margin of safety against killing losses, and he outlines some methods for doing that for both defensive and enterprising investors. My main, but small, complaint is that the stories and case studies run on too long for my taste and tend to be somewhat dated, but the fundamental principles he describes are still sound. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Power and ample information and graphics
I found this book to be one of the best out on the topic, of which there are too few at present for such an important topic. The depth and breadth of place-making topics and their coverage makes this a very excellent easy-to-read-and-understand as well as a long-term reference tool. The graphics are very well done. Having recently attended a Harvard program on retail for cities and new towns and urban center given by Bob Gibbs and Terry Shook, I especially found the book right on target. 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best straight option book out there
Mr. Lucier has written a book with no bullspit or filler material. He simply gets down to the business of educating the reader about straight options and the best way to profit from them.

5-0 out of 5 stars It only takes a Dollar to make more Money!
This book is great. It's concise, educational and to the point. Mr. Lucier provides enough information that Realtor's would never tell you. He also provides forms to guide you in the right direction. I am also reading his book about Pre-Foreclosures and it has a lot of insight with the in's and out's of the housing market.
5-0 out of 5 stars Not for you real estate slackers out there...you know who you are.
I have read Mr. Luciers book from front to book in its entirety and I'm about to re-read it again along with taking notes and contacting the attorneys, combing thru public records, etc to make this strategy work.

5-0 out of 5 stars A most useful handbook with practical and clear language. For consulting on a broad range of industry topics.
I have always been a fan of handbooks. They always provide practical information about a subject in concise articles that help practitioners (or, in my case, would-be practitioners) get oriented on the vast array of topics in their field. Most of us are expert in narrow areas of information, yet we cannot afford to be ignorant of the broader sweep of the fields in which we work.Handbooks and practical guides help us competently handle those activities that are relevant to our work, but only come up once in awhile or in areas we are just beginning work. This really cool book, `After the Trade is Made" by David Weiss, is ideal for investment professionals, investors, and anyone curious about how the back of the house processes and clears the trades made by the customers and the sales team.I like the way handbooks discuss things in practical and easy to implement language.Theory is great and appropriate for textbooks, but in doing a job you want to know what it is you should and have to do.
5-0 out of 5 stars Seminal Work on the Securities Backoffice
If you need to understand the nuts and bults process ofwhat happens after a trade is made, this is the book for you. A must for those in the industry, in particular,IT developers designing securities software. When I was in the industry, it was my bible.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learn about securities processing, if you stay awake.
If you manage to stay awake then you too can learn about securities processing from start to finish. This is a great book about how the sell-side brokerage firm works, although much of the information here is outdated; electronic systems have streamlined the process and made it more efficient.Still, this book has a great wealth of information in it.This book impressed me in its clarity and at the same time, its magical ability to be so boring. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Pearls of wisdom - encrypted over and over
First off let me assure you that Mark Douglas deserves all the generally positive reviews he's received for this book and for "Trading in the Zone."What Douglas has to share is essential, extremely valuable information for both aspiring and veteran traders alike. That said, stand warned that Mr. Douglas has quite a tedious writing style. He suffers (and thereby, so does the reader) from a particularly diffuse, circular, and repetitive style. He gives redundant a bad name. Here's a sample, you be the judge:

4-0 out of 5 stars All about trading in the stock market
William O'neal covers all major stock trading areas in this book: how to find a broker, his CAN SLIM method for making money on stocks, When to sell, how to diversify, when to buy options, he shows charts of the biggest stock winners from 1953 to 1993, how to read stock price history charts and much more. It is a lot of information to take in and is not for beginners. I would advise reading "The neatest little guide to the stock market" before reading this book if you are just starting out in the land of individual stocks.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, but use your experience also
If anyone read How To Make Money In Stocks once or twice and made aconsistent profit over the last three years, my hat is off to them!
5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great introductory book
This is a very good introductory book for stock trading. Its concept of CAN-SLIM system provides an entry point for novice of how to do stock trading. Besides, it also points out many bad habits of major investors which should be avoided. Even for experienced investors, this book is good for review too. ... Read more

Editorial Review

There are plenty of heavily pedigreed personal-finance experts dishing out good advice, but not many who know what it's like to have to eat ramen all month to make a car payment. On the other hand, there's Mary Hunt, a recovered credit card addict whose free-spending ways landed her family in the middle of $100,000 of unsecured debt in the early 1980s. Pulling herself out of that morass gave Hunt the courage to strike out on her own as a writer, motivational speaker, and the brains behind Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars really really helpful!
as a recovering shopaholic, mary hunt's book is a lifesaver! she reall knows what youve been thru and her debt was 10 times worse then mine! and she now lives debt free, and debt proof... which is an amazing inspiration. she really details exactly how to get out of debt, and then prevent from slipping back into debt once your paid up - which she describes as only the starting point! amazing new ways of looking at money management, and really sensible - i dont agree with all her ideas, but most of them are really helpful, and if you are in debt or just got out of debt this book is a must read!!!! she is an amazing woman - with a great humourous and fun to read writing style... i flew thru this rather large book in a matter of weeks... defiantly worth it!!

3-0 out of 5 stars Debt-Proof
I was already out of debt when I read Mary Hunt's book. I found it to be a good book and things that had already been covered in other books. Some of the same material was covered in Debt-Free Living by Burkett. It was an easy to read book.
5-0 out of 5 stars A practical guide that I am still using 5 years later

3-0 out of 5 stars Limited Good Info. Maybe Usabale
I have to tell you.... this author is really not a writer, BUT he has something to say. It's true about the poor presentation, grammar issues, etc. BUT, like I said the author does have something to say - moreso in everyday layman's language. I believe he could have spent a little money on having it properly published - nicer layout, proofing, etc., BUT even I got the message. Trust me you have more to gain than lose.
