4-0 out of 5 stars The Great Bust Ahead
Very Short, (55 pages), and to the point, yet, with all of the information packed into the book, it should still take a couple of nights to read if you can put it down. Mr. Arnold has a message to get out, and he gets it said.
3-0 out of 5 stars Neutral stance
I have only read reviews and small portions of this book, however I thought to offer some thoughts as I felt a few reviewers were overly critical.
2-0 out of 5 stars No Dow Snap Back
Although I agree with Mr. Arnold's ultimate conclusion and found his demographic research useful, it should be apparent now that the increase in the DJIA, which the author asserted "must happen," has not materialized.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
Ms. Goodman's book is a much needed resource on CDOs.If you are just learning about the CDO market, Ms. Goodman clearly defines key terms and explains the structures from beginning to end. Those with extensive Wall Street experience will enjoy having one of the few well-written references available in the market. It is also a good marketing tool to give to potential investors. This is a good comprehensive reference guide.

1-0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous and outrageous accusation by an idiot reviewer
The reviewer below suggests that Moorad Choudhry has posted a negative review of this book. To him/her I say this: Moorad Choudhry did not write it. I did. Mr Choudhry actually has a very high opinion of this book, and recommended to me I buy it when I attended a Bloomberg seminar he lectured at a few months ago. "Buy the new Goodman/Fabozzi book on CDOs, its excellent" he told me.5-0 out of 5 stars Great book on CDOs - personally recommended

1-0 out of 5 stars Errors Galore
After purchasing the instructor's manual to check my answers, I found errors in every chapter!!From spelling to incorrect percentage amounts.I found myself editing the entire time to find their errors which contradict their text. When I got answers that were not an option in the multiple choice exercises, I would reference the book and the textbook would say I was correct, and the workbook did not.Not worth the money or the time.Extremely exhausting.

1-0 out of 5 stars find something better to learn from
I took a night course which used this textbook. The instructor who is a certified coder and is an instructor at other institutions found MANY misleading instructions. You can be told to do something one way in the book but in real life at a billing job, you would have to do it another way. Also, we found many contradicting statements. They say one thing but do something totally different in their examples. It's really not worth the money.

2-0 out of 5 stars Boring
This book provides nothing new.It is centered on the whole idea of setting up your retirement accounts so they automatically deduct from your paycheck. If you have 401k, duh, it does that automatically...anyway, boring. It also says to save money, don't use credit cards, pay yourself, blah, blah, blah.Oh yeh, if you save early you will be a millionaire in like forty years...zzzz. Ok, it did help me by reminding me about the interest rates in banks. One idea was to put the emergency funds in a money market account which offers a higher interest rate than a regular savings account.Upon reading this, I decided to do this and doing this made me realize the dismal .2% I've been earning on my saving account. And not realizing the latest craze started by ING, all the other banks offer an "online savings" account which offers 5% compare to the dismal .2%.I immediately switched!Other than this part of the book, it was boring.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sensible financial guide
David Bach offers a very straightforward and basically foolproof method for managing your finances in "The Automatic Millionaire." This isn't a get-rich-quick book: "The Automatic Millionaire" is based on the principle that anyone can become wealthy by following a few basic steps and learning how to manage their money well. Bach insists that the only way people can truly get rich is if they "pay themselves first" with every check before shelling out money for bills, basic expenses, and trivial purchases. The idea of making everything "automatic" stems from Bach's belief that by using automated payroll deductions for things like retirement accounts and monthly bills, people won't be tempted to stray away from their budgets.
5-0 out of 5 stars Most Americans would benefit
Yes, much of the information and advice in this book comes from other sources (The Richest Man in Babylon, etc.).And yes, most of the stuff in here is "common sense" to many people. However, reading this simple book would benefit so many people I know...and isn't that the aim of a "self-help" book after all?

5-0 out of 5 stars Good reading
You know, if you want to be the best, you need to learn from the best. George & Donald are the pinnacles of success in the real estate business. George Ross presents how things work with him & Donald in the business world, from his perspective. I highly recommend it. I have far more respect for George now after reading this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Interesting
According to the book, George Ross was very instrumental in Donald Trump's success and more power to him.His book is very entertaining and informative. Having seen him numerous times on the Apprentice it is easy to see his personality come through in his writing.I recommend the book to anyone who wants an enjoyable, enlightening and full-of-ideas read.

3-0 out of 5 stars This was okay
I think this was an okay read.I thought he had too much fluff in the beginning.I found combining this book and a book called Investing Without Losing to have a good mix, on one end you get some basic foreclosure law by Loftis intro and a how to instruction set with the latter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Solid Explanation
I'm a rookie when it comes to tax lien investing. However, Loftis does a great job of explaining the intricacies of bidding as well as the different systems used in different states and counties.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
This book is a very good resource for tax lien investing and covers some states very well. Because state laws are so different and always changing, it's not feasible to write a book that has current information for every state. This book accurately describes tax lien and tax deed investing procedures for most states. I found this book to be the most complete book in print about tax liens that I have found and it even has some information on deeds. I strongly suggest this book to anyone who want to get involved in investing in tax lien certificates or tax deeds. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars If you have the time, you will save money
If you have the time to be your own general contractor, you will save money on your house construction, according to author Smith. This is true; I know two people at least, maybe more, who built their own house in a pricey market and got better results for a lot less. But...they had the time to be a full-time or nearly full-time general contractor.

4-0 out of 5 stars Most Appropriate for Basel II
If you are Banker/Banking Consultant then this book is the closest you will get to understanding Credit Risk from a Basel II perspective. Its clear & lucid style helped me understand the gamut of techniques used in Credit Risk Measurement. Unfortunately the Book does not get into the details of bulinding models so if your looking for a model building cookbook, look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars a complete, robust and comprehensive valuable resource!
In Measuring and Managing Credit Risk, the authors provided a robust, complete and comprehensive treatment of several aspects of modern credit risk measurement and management. Written by two high talented practitioners, this book will become certainly a reference both for academics and practitioners thanks to its careful treatment of several not so known empirical issues which practitioners have to face everyday. At the same time, do not consider the book as a new recipes book for managing credit risk. Both authors already proved their deep knowledges of financial theory and establish once again, through this book, how advanced knowledges of theory combined with significant practical experience make leading researches. As a PhD candidate in Finance, actually writing on credit risk, I definitively adopted this book and higly recommend it for anyone dealing with credit risk issues either through a practical experience or through a theoritical work. ... Even more significant than the hefty down payment we fork over is the 15- to 30-year mortgage that needs feeding every month. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good Introductory Book for Those Unfamiliar with Mortgages
I didn't know a lot about mortgages before I read this book.I picked it up to learn more about any and all types of mortgages, and I wasn't disappointed. This title covers all necessary terminology, even the most basic (which is great for beginners like me).
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for mortgage buyers
If you are contemplatingbuying a home, then this book is a must. Everthing is in here. So complete.5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely helpful in getting our mortgage
I read this book shortly before we signed to build a home, and I can't say how helpful it has been. Knowing how mortgages work (especially ARMs) and the right questions to ask has definitely changed the treatment we have received from various mortgage companies. We ended up going with our builder for financing and after dealing with them, I get the impression that a lot of people DON'T read up on mortgages and just take whatever is offered. Don't just trust the mortgage companies to give you the best deal - read this first and arm yourself for negotiating! ... Read more

With only 15-18 years until retirement, I have been on a quest to learn as much as I can about money as quickly as possible. This book is a no-nonsense education that will have my wife and I ready for that time by setting and taking action on clearly defined goals, getting our finances and financial paperwork under control, and motivating our family and friends to follow suit. Even if your goal is to have $1 million over 30-40 years and you only get to $800,000, you are a lot further ahead than those who say, "I will start tomorrow." Don't start tomorrow... start NOW. This is a very easy to read book with alot of checklists, quizzes and tools/resources to make your dreams a reality; however, only YOU can take those necessary steps. This book is a gold mine of information. Take the time ... NO, MAKE the time ... to read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars the most comprehensive review on value
In short, this book is grounded on economics and common sense. It summarizes "the intelligent investor", "security analysis", and the modern books on Buffett pretty well (there are other paths to heaven besides Buffett's). Its verbiage is beautifully chosen and a joy to read, especially for avid value investors. Best of all it is a scholarly work - if you're sick and tired of the commercial investing books that flood bookstores, buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-read for serious investors of any stripe
A must-read for investors of any stripe, growth or value. This book, written by a couple of the most popular professors at Columbia Business School, explains the innovations in the field of value investing as practiced by some of the most successful investors in the field. (fair disclosure: I will be taking courses from them in 2007) This book successfully bridges the gap between the traditional Graham & Dodd style of value investing to what works today. Although it's a paperback, it's written with the density of a textbook. The writing style is not light, and the actual meat of the book takes some time to wade through. If you don't have some experience in accounting or corporate finance, then Joel Greenblatt's The Little Book That Beats the Market is good to read first.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good content, but confusing
Good content and good approach. I'm a fan of value investing. The book teaches the reproduction cost of assets and the earning power value. It also hints on how to incorporate growth.

4-0 out of 5 stars the right formula
if you are a real estate agent having trouble figuring closing costs, pricing, escrow accounts and other real estate math essentials, this is a good book. there are no "magic" math books. you have to sit down with your paper, pencil, calculator and practice. learn some basic formulas, study the material which is well organized, and you'll have a lot more "math self confidence".

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
I am an owner of a few rental properties which I kind of stumbled upon but which have provided me with some steady income.I was intrigued and decided to pick up Mr. Loftis' book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Everything I expected and more
After owning 3 condos I decided it was time to move into multi-unit properties. I had some basic knowledge, but wanted to know what I didn't know and some tactics and strategies as I moved into this new realm. Mr. Loftis took a very structured look at the subject from beginning to end and refreshingly also gave credit to other authors and acknowledged there is more than one way to skin this particular cat. The one thing I would say is the appreciation numbers are likely a bit optimistic for most areas considering where the real estate market appears to be heading(8/2006), but if you can't modify them for your area you shouldn't get into the business. In short, an excellent book - both informative and well written.

Over the last 5 years I only battle against lawyers paid by the big business insurance industry. My practice is insurance breach of contract law and auto.I hold myself out as a trial lawyer because I do not accept the crap offers from the claims assessment software that every insurer uses to evaluate human life.To that end, in order to do right by your clients you must challenge the insurers of your clients or the people who harm your clients (we can not sue the insurer of the negligent driver directly)And you must be armed with proven techniques that work. That is what this book is, one of those books you tab, highlight, copy, reuse, a reference tool. This book is a must, an absolute must for anyone dealing with insurers in any capacity. It is chocked full of useful, practicable information that you can use right away.It teaches you how to teach a jury on what 'reasonable' means when they delay and deny meritorious claims. If you are a mill and settle every case without filing, accepting the low ball offers, not doing right by your client, etc., then just keep doing what you've always done and you'll get what you always gotten. But if you correct the injustices, fight for what is right, are on the side of society that helps people, not corporations, then you must by this book and use it. I have read all of David Ball's books, attended ATLA juror bias college, conventions, books on closing, jury bias, Jury Works, TLC, NITA, etc. and with all of that I found this book very useful.I refer to it before every deposition, trial, etc.I do not know the authors of the book, (I wish I did) but they are super accomplished trial lawyers.I speak from my heart on a book that will help people who care about people - and that means winning jury trials because that is the only check on our society.Remember what Thomas Jefferson said, "the right to a jury trial is more important that the right to vote."If you practice insurance bad faith law, auto law, or any law where insurance is involved, you must own this book.(...) ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introduction to Personal Finance
For someone just getting their feet wet with personal finance, this book is an excellent introduction. It is a concise and engaging read that all high school students ought to read, as well as those wanting a refresher on money matters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the $9.75!
I read this entire book in two sittings. I found it fascinating and easy to comprehend. My husband only recently aquired a 401(k) and we were lost. Neither of us has parents in the "investor class" (financial vocabulary is not something we grew up with). It would have taken me years to figure out all this information on my own. Logically, I realized that we needed to be strategic about the early investments that would generate the capital we will continue to invest as we age, but I didn't know exactly how to do this. The book clarified almost everything for me. The book justified with evidence a lot of things I held uneducated hunches about. I now understand what a P/E ratio is! How cool is that?!In addition to clarifying most of the 401(k) issues, there were also good tips on personal finance. One reviewer said these are obvious. They are not obvious to a lot of people because they go against how most people use their money. My parents were anxious about carrying debt, and I am too as a consequence. But many people are not raised that way. This book does more than say "have a budget, don't carry credit card debt, buy inexpensive cars, etc." It explains the consequences of not doing this in financial terms that are eye-opening.If you want to learn the logic behind common financial advice this is a great place to start. It isn't a "do this, do that" kind of book. Rather, it gives you the overall picture, and the knowledge you need to take control of your own finances. Each person's financial situation is unique. Be wary of one-size-fits-all financial advice, and don't be at the mercy of others' advice because they are mostly out to make their money with your money! Not that you need to be paranoid, but knowing some basics will help you avoid putting your money in places that may look good but are really all wrong for you.

2-0 out of 5 stars Very basic
This book is not for anyone with even a basic understanding of personal finance. There were some decent ideas (a handful or so) but laborious in reading so much basic information to get to them.Very surprised for a book with the WSJ name on it. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The sequel to The millionaire next door
If you read and enjoyed the Millionaire next door this book is a great follow up for more of how the real millionaires think. I is basically the same and the before mentioned book however in this book the author makes a successful attempt to get inside a millionaires head by studying their behavior.
1-0 out of 5 stars I Couldn'tWake Up
Having read "The Millionaire Next Door," as well as most if not all of the classics in this category, I expected life-altering experiences with this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars HOW MILLIONAIRES GOT THAT WAY - PRACTICAL AND INSIGHTFUL INSIDER-INFO
Productivity...attack, working in conjunction with frugality...defense - many coaches and success writers tend to focus more on the former tactics than the latter. Interesting to learn that you may earn lots of money - millions even - and be "Income-affluent", but still not be a champion player, as Dr. Thomas Stanley sees it. The real goal, he says, is to be "Balance sheet-affluent". Welcome to the real meaning of millionaire.
