4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook.
I was required to purchase this book for a project management course and it's one of the better texts I've read on the topic.Well organized and easily referenced, one of the main strengths of the book is it's analysis of real world examples.Very good text overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth the Price for "External Evironments"
Leigh Thompson has done it again.Like few others this Northwestern University scholar takes current research and puts it on the page like few other experts.I particularly found the sections on dealing with conflict within teams, creativity, and social capital (in the External Evironment section) worth reading.I keep this book with me when I am meeting with a team.I use the individual chapters as a guide for activities there. If you have an interest in teams, Leigh Thompson is the one expert you should include in your library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Making the Team Makes the Grade!
Whether you work in teams, design them, or study them, you will find much of value in this book.Drawing on a wealth of social and behavioral science findings, Leigh Thompson shows the advantages, and the pitfalls, ofgetting things done through teamwork.Clearly written, with many caseexamples, Thompson builds on her research and consulting experiences tocreate a complex picture of what makes groups tick. I particularly likedher explanation of how to foster creativity in teams, as well as how todeal with the inevitable conflicts that arise. She notes that teams are nota panacea. However, under the right conditions, properly organized teamscontribute substantially to their organizations. If you're dissatisfiedwith the way things are going in your organization, this book would make agreat (anonymous?) gift for your boss! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Crack the Bullwhip!
I am the Corporate Lean Champion for a global manufacturing company.I had heard of the bullwhip effect but did not thoroughly understand it before reading "the book" as I refer to it when recommending it to my Lean students.Streamlined helped me to put a plan together utilizing rate based planning, Lean variation reduction tools, and pull protocols to Crack the Bullwhip effect and drive it out of our organization!
5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Guide
I actually got the opportunity to study under Srini and can verify his expertise in this field.I picked up more than a few great ideas in this book that I hadn't seen in the many books I have read on the subject.I would recommend this book to students, managers, and specialist at all experience levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent textbook for an advanced undergarduate course as well as MBA courses
I have adopted "streamlined" for an advanced topics in management course on lean supply chains. The challenge of finding a book that goes beyond the abstract concepts to more detailed and parctical steps for implementation has been greatly alleviated by "streamlined." Dr. Srinivasan provides the reader and the student in particular with a very well thought out and written text. My students' initial worries about the rigor and difficulty of the subject matter were quickly mitigated after reading the first few chapters.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lots of information, horrible presentation
I am in my last year of school and preparing to embark on a career in banking. Out of all the finance and economics (I'm a double major) textbooks I have used this is the absolute worst bar none. While the text has a very large amount of information that same information is simply thrown at you with no real presentation.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book iz awesome!!!It r0xx0rs!
Dizoctor Tim Koch is the bomb.He has created the perfect book.At a svelte 1.5 inches it perfectly fits underneath the busted leg of my entertainment center. Finally, I can pliz-ay my new XBox 360 games without worry. Thanks Dr. Koch! You're the b0mb!

1-0 out of 5 stars TEDIOUS, REPETITIVE, BUY NYQUILL INSTEAD!!
This is likely the worst textbook I have come accross in my finance career. The writing is extremely dry and the authors do not make an effort to summarize anything. They love narrating long concepts and mixing it with dull examples that make you completely lost. The concepts in each chapter are repeated twice for absolutely no reason. This sucker will make you fall asleep as fast as NyQuill - without the good relaxing feeling. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars First Impressions
If first impressions are lasting impressions, the points made in this book should last a lifetime for its readers.
4-0 out of 5 stars Thin
I like reading "How-to" books. So obviously I couldn't miss this one.As far as I liked what was inside, the problem is that there wasn't much of it.The book is extremely thin and for that reason I cannot give it 5 stars.Out of other "how-to" books my favorite are "How to Win Friends and Influence People" by Dale Carnegi and especially"Never Eat Alone" by Keith Ferrazzi

2-0 out of 5 stars ***
Simple advice, but that's often the best kind. I've been told I'm quite socially adept, so I read this book mainly because I liked Brian Tracy's other books, and this had a few helpful pointers I hadn't considered before. I do think the authors put a land mine near the beginning of the book by holding Bill Clinton as an example of a charmer worth emulating!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, but I've read Christopher Hitchens' paperback edition of NO ONE LEFT TO LIE TO that includes the chapter about Clinton's history of rape. So Clinton is very arguably a sociopath and so right off the book gives the impression of perhaps being a guide for snake oil salesmen, or worse. But it actually preaches being genuine for the most part. I do know people who could use this book. And heard of them. A relative of mine knows the owner of a video rental store in the heart of a very wealthy Silicon Valley neighborhood. This neighborhood is filled with computer millionaires. And these millionaires are largely computer nerds. This video shop owner was complaining that his business was doing poor. Someone told him, "This neighborhood is filled with millionaires, BUT THEY ARE ALL COMPUTER DORKS WITH NO SOCIAL SKILLS. So their love lives are nil. Stock your store with porno and your business will go through the roof." And he was right. After the owner changed his inventory, busines sky-rocketed. This video store was many of these wealthy computer nerds' main sexual outlet. Even though they were filthy rich, their love lives were zero! That shows you how important charm and social skills are toward obtaining a full life! For people like that this book would be very valuable. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
This edition is one of the better editions to come out. My professor didn't use the book in class, in fact he gave it bad reviews. We were advised to have the book to look up topics in more detail. We were also advised to study the chapter review questions, as they were used as test questions.
5-0 out of 5 stars Buy It
An excelent source of information on Business Law. I had this book for my first college course in Business law and without it I might have failed. The book utalizes real cases and situations to explain virtualy every topic. The text is presented in a very clear and concise manner and applies to Business Law as practiced in America today. I personally have even used the information in this book to argue a case of my own in small claims and won. Im sure the other reviewer of this book just didn't take the time to study and learn the information. Rely on experience, not ramblings, buy this book!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not understandable
I found the book to be confusing in most cases. It would seem as though it would make runaround in descriptions. It would try to explain things in to much detail, thereby confusing the hell out of you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book! Just don't buy the eBook copy!
It's a decent book that outline the necessary steps and precautions that need to re-engineer your company. However, I made a mistake by buying the eBook copy of this book because I needed it right the way. However, for this eBook, I cannot print any of the pages and, worse yet, I can't view the book on another PC.So my suggestion is that DON'T BUY eBOOK, it's the worst investment you can make.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good, and in addition.
This is a very good series of articles. In addition, I strongly recommend "Strategic Organizational Change" by Beitler. It is time and money well spent.

4-0 out of 5 stars Insightful
This book points out a lot of things women might be aware of but don't really think about. It really changed my perspective and the whole office politic games.I bought this book are a couple of women friends in management and would recommend this to anyone in a supervisor position.

4-0 out of 5 stars Learn to play hardball--woman style
This review is a collaborative writing project completed by a ENGL/227 class at DeVry University in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good guidance for Women
Working in a male-dominated company in a male-dominated field (sales) I had noticed some of the behaviors mentioned in this book. However, "Hardball" gave me insight into WHY I saw these behaviors and how to deal with them. The book is getting a little dated (the power suit/skirt is out, the power suit with slacks is the choice of women executives these days) but still very good information. You must keep in mind that not ALL men think this way - as with all generalizations you have to keep flexible and adapt to the situation. A must read for any woman who is mystified by the behaviors she sees around her and wants to move up in the corporate world. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best "how-to" book I've read on achievement
This is a really great book on the building blocks and requirements for attaining fulfillingachievement.I think one of the best parts of this book for me was the author's classification of achievement as an art. This softened the definition of achievement for me and liberated the concept from my perception as a cold,money-producing necessity to something beautiful, fulfilling, exciting and worthy of creation.Everyone is different, of course, and how we do things is always different from how others do things, even when we seemingly are doing the same thing. We all put our personalities into everything we do.That combined with our ability to choose how we use our unique, God-given abilities to create achievement art that will help both ourselves and others, makes fulfilling achievement very worth creating.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Achievement

This book provides the best definition of a mentor that I have come across thus far with the statement "...and at there best they inspire us to reach beyond ourselves; they show us how to make a positive difference in a wider world". It is an easy to read reference tool filled with applicable information about how to prepare for and what to watch for during your journey as a mentor. 4-0 out of 5 stars A good overview of the role of innovation in organizations
In her book, The Seeds of Innovation, Elaine Dundon shows how companies can foster and grow this innovation.Dundon founded a company called The Innovation Group Consulting, Inc.This is a consulting group that works with individuals and corporations to help them with innovation.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is needed NOW, more than ever!
Dundon makes it clear that "innovation" is not the same thing as creativity.Importantly, she establishes that the work of innovation requires 5-0 out of 5 stars Gives the reader real innovation techniques to use
Innovation is an overwrought, overused word/topic with many books written about it. You are reading this review because you are seeking thinking tools and techniques to apply to your version of Innovation, whether for an organization, community, or to be used personally. This book provides you, the reader/user, with an excellent andsensible framework to define, understand, develop, and implement processes that empower and support environments where "innovation" can happen (you still need to do the work). Dundon defines innovation as "the profitable implementation of strategic creativity." Whether your "profit" is quantified in money or good will, this book gently instructs you in the finer arts of achieving real innovative results by taking a holistic 3 innovation-dimension views on your challenges. I have purchased 20copies of this book and given them to professional colleagues, the book is that rewarding. Innovation is not creativity, which is a very common misperception. 4-0 out of 5 stars Sound framework, good case studies
This book provides a strong framework in which to understand ethical decision making, which Kidder distinguishes as "right vs. right" situations as opposed to the "right vs. wrong" of moral decisions; ethics isn't about whether you do the right thing despite the temptation to do wrong, but how you choose the course of action when either solution could be defended as morally correct.Kidder explains the rational considerations you can use to better make such choices.

3-0 out of 5 stars Limited in scope
The exercises are good, but limited in number.I've also had problems with the exercises appealing to a wide range of kids. The book is useful, and the philosophy that teens are doing their job by having their developmental crises is a positive change from the "disaster" of adolescence that we hear so much about.I would recommend it for those working with basically high-functioning kids with "normal" kinds of difficulties/crises.

5-0 out of 5 stars A practical and creative approach
This book is noteworthy for its pratical approach. Along the book you can find lots of creative exercises to do with your teenage clients. I consider these activities an excellent resource even for individual therapy (someare very easily adapted), because they are ready to use (the authorprovides already made materials appropriate for this developmental phase),self diclosure eliciting and presented in a game-like fashion, what isappealing for the adolescents. The activities are divided into severalthemes, related with adolescents problems and concerns. Some of thesethemes are not easy to approach within the group due to some resistance, insecurity and fear of rejection by other members and by the leader. Itsnecessary to know how to get to core of the hurting issues without makingthe group feel threatened. This is what this book is all about... ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars An insult for the intelligent reader
In StephenSilbiger's words, "I realised that the basics of an MBA education were quite simple and could easily be understood by a wider audience." What the author is trying to do with his book is to cram in two years of an MBA education into 350 pages. Naturally, the book misses the whole point of the exercise of a University education: it takes time to grasp the often complex models that students will have to master in order to be eligible for a diploma with their name on it. It may be true that a lot of MBA programmes are very repetitive and that the basic information can indeed be summarised into a few pages only, however this means that all the details is missing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Confidence Builder
I love this book!It makes these business topics within reach of anyone willing to read and study. This book covers the basics thoroughly. Remember, it is a book on the basics only and not a textbook; funny how some people rant because it doesn't cover everything a "real" MBA knows.
4-0 out of 5 stars Useful and Intuitive
I am currently enrolled in an MBA program, and I use this book for reference! It is a must-have for MBA students, and those aspiring to higher education. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide!!!
As I was reading the other reviews of this book, I could already see the success this book's advice is giving to high school students, especially to seniors. My mom suggested this book to me, and I could have never imagined what a gift it would turn out to be. Applications are all about how you look on paper, and this book gives any student who follows its suggestions a leg up on the competition, especially in the crucial essay-writing phase. So many college prospects find themselves hampered by essays and struggle with them. Taking suggestions such as these into consideration can certainly make or break an application. I also applied to Princeton University early, and I was also accepted. I truthfully do not know what my life would be like now without this book. Thank you Dr. Hernandez for your insights and solid advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended
After being accepted early decision to Princeton University, I had to write a review of this book!I was fortunate enough to find it near the beginning of my junior year of high school, and it stayed with me right up through the agonizing process of completing applications and ultimately gaining admission from my top choice school.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent with many valuable details on the topic
Michele Hernandez is one of the best private college counselors in the nation. She is also the author of the excellent college guide "A is for Admission."This book is one of the best among the 10 ones I have read."Acing the College Application" is not as rich in insights and information as "A is for Admission."This is because it is focused on a more mechanical and narrow topic (how to best fill the actual application so as to maximize your chances).
