5-0 out of 5 stars Best Distribution channels book around
Excellent book both in terms of framework and use of practical examples.Comprehensive coverage.Quite updated and international coverage due to the alliance with E. Anderson that teaches in Insead. The mix of the authors's background clearly enriches the book. Highly recommended and easy to see why it is in its 7th edition.

5-0 out of 5 stars every CEO should read this book
This edition is really a significant leap forward with so many great examples bringing the framework and principles to life. All the other changes help to broaden the readership appeal and increase the book's usability.

4-0 out of 5 stars Read it in One Night
There aren't many eBay books that are entertaining but this one was. Lots of good stories to keep you interested, and when all is said and done there's a lot of good information here on creating auctions and really thinking like a seller. Somewhat self-promotional, buy hey the guy's a success story.

3-0 out of 5 stars Enthusiasm is contagious, but Ginsberg has much to gain
This book is fun and well written, but it started to sound a lot like Network Marketing books I'd read in the past, and when I first sniffed the aroma of Ginsberg's intent to sell me ebay tools, I was a bit dismayed...okay, he's got more than one agenda. I agree that there is A LOT of repeition, but maybe that's a good thing.. .it sinks in. However, Ginsburg's writing gives the feeling sales are really hot on Ebay...and that if you put stuff upyou're very likely to sell it. Maybe, maybe not. Halfway through the book I went online to check the seller listings... as he suggests....and I was pretty mollified to see just how much goes UNSOLD on EBAY every day.Putting those stats side by side would be a bit sobering, I think. I love to buy on ebay, I've tried to sell a few things without much luck (except new books.)YOu have to spend more to sell more and I've been stingy.. so with his help, I plan to experiment a bit...but I have no doubts this is not as easy as his enthusiasm makes it sound. But when you're making millions, I guess it's easy to get enthusiastic, especially if that sells more books and more software. Now I'm looking for a book that says... yes, you can, BUT!:-)

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of information for the beginner.
There is a lot of information to get you excited about starting to buy/sell on Ebay.A tiny bit too many "stories", but excellent source of the basics.Just be sure to flag pages as you go to reference and your start up will be much easier.Just attended Ebay 101 class ($95) and much of the stuff I had already learned from this book.Definitely worth the price of the book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Get correct edition
Amazon's listing for this book is very confusing....as seems to often be the case with Amazon. The 5th edition was released in 2003 (ISBN # 0072553928) and the 4th edition was released in 2001 (ISBN # 0072497017). Vastly different books and more care by Amazon should be given when listing books. It can be done.....Barnes and Noble does it at their website.
4-0 out of 5 stars Basic introduction with a few bright spots
This book serves as a basic introduction to retail, though it often feels like "baby talk".It basically describes, without much analysis, the types of policies retailers adopt in several areas including merchandising, inventory management, ordering, HR, finance, store layout, etc.Good as a reference to what others are doing, but not at the cutting edge of retail.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good read, but too rudimentary
One thing is for sure - if you really intend to start your own retail business, Retail Business Kit for Dummies will not take you far. It is very rudimentary, to say the least. My real disappointment is because of the CD that came with the book, supposedly full of useful forms, reports etc. They looked as if they were written with a typewriter.Anyway, regardless of your profile, I do not think that this book will help you open or run a successful retail business, nor significantly compliment your existing knowledge.
5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for the beginner
I could hardly put this book down after receiving it.I especially liked the section on writing a business plan.Lots of detail in this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for basics, too general for experienced marketers
I should preface this review by saying that I am probably not the typical reader the author had in mind when writing this book.As a marketing consultant, I was recently was engaged to develop retail feasibility study and project plan for an Internet retailer planning their first bricks and mortar store.Although I have retail marketing experience, I bought this book to make sure that I had all bases covered and to get some fresh ideas on visual merchandising, retail POS systems and operations for small retailers.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book I have read on selling on eBay!
"eBay income," by Cheryl Russell is unique among the hundreds of books on the subject, in that it takes the reader on a step by step journey through the process of learning how to sell on eBay, without overloading them with difficult to understand language that is so prevalent in other books on eBay selling. 5-0 out of 5 stars A knowledgeable "reader friendly" grasp of just how to go about doing business on the eBay website
eBay Income: How Anyone Of Any Age, Location, And/Or Background Can Build A Highly Profitable Online Business With eBay by Cheryl L. Russell offers a knowledgeable "reader friendly" grasp of just how to go about doing business on the eBay website. Outlining in considerable detail the most tactful and profitable approach to making the most profitable and productive management approach to sales online through the auspices of eBay, readers are provided with a wealth of first hand, experienced-based, practical advice that can have those readers up and operating before the day is out. If you have something to sell or are looking for something to buy as part of your own online entrepreneurial venture utilizing the Internet's most popular do-it-yourself website for buying and selling, then eBay Income is especially recommended and essential reading for its profusion of precise, intelligible tips, overall ideas, and step-by-step instructions.
5-0 out of 5 stars From the basic to the inspired
Never been on eBay before but looking for a place to sell some treasures that you found at the second-hand shop?Put up a couple of auctions and wondering why they never sold?Trying to figure out how to maximize your profit in such a variable environment?Look no further!Russell's book covers everything from setting up a seller's account (and the different types thereof) to writing a business plan, marketing strategies, and success stories. The main point of the book is that, like any business, running an online eBay business required professionalism in all areas. What separates the eBay hobbyist from the profitable business owner is the willingness to plan ahead, account for income and expenses responsibly and legally, and to sell yourself at every opportunity. This book will show you how. After the first chapter (an introduction to eBay's mission and history), the book moves through the information you'll need to know through the process, and each chapter ends with a checklist of steps to complete before you move on to the next chapter. The book is clearly and entertainingly written, with lots of fun anecdotes showing you other eBay sellers and how they learned the hard way (so you don't have to).Although you may not be able to find exactly what you're looking for using just the chapter titles or section headings, I really would recommend that you read the entire book and complete the worksheets before moving on, anyway.I've recommended this book to a number of my personal friends and clients, and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to increase profits and reduce hassles. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars How Wal-Mart Delivers Such Low Prices
Some Wal-Mart shoppers will prefer to remain ignorant of the impact this company has on local economies around the globe. But for consumers who prefer to know the mechanics of obtaining a bottle of shampoo for 41 cents less than at other retailers, this book is educational and thought-provoking. The author does make an attempt to present a balanced account, but is handicapped by Wal-Mart's refusal to provide information usually available from publicly held companies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good overview of Wal-mart
If you've more than skimmed a newspaper article on Wal-Mart, you probably have a general idea of what this book is going to say.Wal-mart has made some management mistakes. They've pressured suppliers into lower prices, often lowering the quality of merchandise (and lowering the quality of labor practices and/or impeding outsourcing). They offer damn low prices for goods, so low that Wal-mart may have a measurable impact on keeping inflation lower. He doesn't add so much to the knowledge of the issue as make it very digestible as a quick read and give the Wal-mart story life.He has a good mix of individual case studies and academic sources to display evidence of his arguments.
5-0 out of 5 stars A brilliant spotlight on American values
For those who are still existing under the misapprehension that Wal-Mart is a benign gentle giant, "The Wal-Mart Effect" is a startling expose.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Tips, Good Read
I loved this book, and I've read lots of eBay books. Unlike some other writers these guys give you the straight story--the good with the bad--and don't make a lot of pie in the sky promises. This really keeps you centered, and realistic.I found some great tips for sourcing, which is a real challenge for all the sellers I talk to. There were also helpful tips on auction management, customer service, and selling internationally. The profiles of actual PowerSellers and many quotes and anecdotes really made this a good read.

5-0 out of 5 stars My best eBay book investment to date.
As you can see from my Me page, User ID harleyglasses. I have read many eBay related books. This one tops my list for may reasons. Althought they are not powersellers, Brad and Deb don't pretend to have invented the information in their book, they start off by thanking all of the Powersellers and other professionals that contributed to the book. I might add that many are in the top 100 sellers on eBay and are members of PeSA, the Professional eBay Sellers Alliance. Brad and Deb have all the right connections :-)
3-0 out of 5 stars Not as good as expected.

2-0 out of 5 stars APromising Start but dissapointing finish
While waiting for my wife to finish shopping at the Tyson's Corner LL Bean store in the Washington DC area, I came across"The Making of LL Bean".Leon Beam, the grandson of LL Bean, weaves an interesting story about his start with the company and his struggles with an entrenched older icon that chooses to rest on his laurels instead of modernizing a family business ["I eat three meals a day, I can't eat four," is one of the elder Bean's more infamous pithy quotations].
5-0 out of 5 stars Bean's Best
Since Mr. Gorman was kind enough to give me a copy of his book, as he did to all his full-time employees, I thought I'd be kind enough to read it.I'm glad I did. This is the finest business autobiography I've read in years.Apart from the wonderful discussion of values--a lot of companies talk about values; at L.L. Bean we live them--what makes this book compelling is its candor and the complex portrait that emerges of founder Leon Leonwood Bean, who, I gather, could be a real bear to work for. There are other delights as well, such as Mr. Gorman's insistence that employees be well-paid and treated with respect, exemplified by the elided quotation: "Superior paying jobs attract superior performing people."How many corporate leaders build that perceptive consideration into their strategic initiatives? Not many, I'm afraid.
5-0 out of 5 stars Balancing tradition against growth...
L. L. Bean is the classic example of the cultural icon company...One that has been around forever, runs by a different set of rules, and has a fanatically loyal customer base.Leon Gorman, the last family member to serve as President of the company, recounts the history and struggles in his book L. L. Bean: The Making of an American Icon. It's an interesting look at how doing a few things correctly can overcome a number of other things done really badly.

2-0 out of 5 stars could be more concise
Was rather of a long story and sometimes hard to read as it doesn't get to the point quick. But I did get one good idea from it so there was some value in it for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
I have worked in retail for over seven years in both corporate and small business settings. I'm now conducting marketing research for a souvenir shop. I've read several book and this was by far one of the most helpful. It's an easy read that doesn't take long to finish but is packed full of useful information. I anticipate referring back to it for quite some time for basic information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mostly good but badly edited
A very good read with rich statistical factoids on an increasingly popular topic.Only problem is bad editing or sloppy fact-checking.Example:page 3, "Three major factors impact...", followed by only two factors.Pages 55 and 75, hailing both Gen X and Gen Y mothers as "...the most ethnically diverse population in the history of the United States".

5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with Knowledge!
If men are from Mars, mothers are from Venus and advertisers are from another galaxy altogether. Fortunately, authors Maria T. Bailey and Bonnie W. Ulman have a hot ticket for corporations that hope to rocket to the new frontiers of mother-focused sales. Backed by credible marketing data, real-life case studies and their own experiences as mothers in the world of marketing, Bailey and Ulman decipher the consumer motivations of modern moms and New Age grandmothers. They include excellent examples of successful corporate strategies and of some misdirected advertising campaigns as well, plus easy-to-understand charts, sidebars and graphics. This makes the book repetitious in parts, but still strong. We warmly recommend it to marketing, public relations, advertising and business development professionals.

5-0 out of 5 stars TRILLION-DOLLAR READING FOR BUSINESS OWNERS
This book is brilliant. If you're in any type of business, you've got to understand what your customers want. And since women make 80% of the major purchasing decisions, you need to think about what your company can do to meet women's needs. Especially savvy mom shoppers. Their pocketbooks represent a $1.7 trillion market.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sad
If this book really does cost what it says it does, then the editorial review is less than useless. It's sad. Hey, I understand your stock prices are dropping, but don't start loosing the quality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands on advice for web copy
Although the book was very focused on selling, I found the advice very interesting and hands on! What interested me the most was the part with the psychological motivators.

5-0 out of 5 stars Yes. Yes. Yes.
Another excellent book that clearly illustrates how different copy written for the web and for emails needs to be. Maria shares a lot of secrets that any serious practicioner should adapt to the online medium. The magic word here is adapt, since her emphasis is on products. I also find that short copy, or long copy that feels like short copy, is important when writing for an online audience. Still, this book is well worth the money. I recommend it to my clients and Creative Marketing Workshop attendees.

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm very happy I bought this book
I have a website and I realised that my sales pitch (copy) was poor. I decided to look on amazon for some inspiration. 'Web Copy That Sells' seemed the best option, so I purchased it. I don't read too many books, but I just couldn't put this one down. I have since embarked on transforming my web copy on my website.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Look into the Nordstrom Culture
The Nordstrom Way was not developed overnight. It has been four generations and over one hundred years in the making. It is a culture, not an act that can be turned on and off.It is a pleasure also to have its recent top salesman Patrick McCarthy share his story.
5-0 out of 5 stars Nordstroms - Still a Solid Read
This book made a big splash when it hit the stands in 1995.If you are worried about it being outdated, don't be.I found it to be very thorough in it's study of Nordstrom's, and it is still a good lesson in what we should all strive for.4-0 out of 5 stars Review: The Nordstrom Way
After reading this book, I noticed that Nordstrom dominates their competitors in regards to customer service. The author successfully explains how the original Nordstrom store eventually grew to become a large, powerful company. As a customer of Nordstrom, I felt encouraged to continue giving the family-run company my business.I recommend this book especially to those who own or work for a company, small or large.Anyone involved with retail will benefit from reading this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars fantastic read
This book did great things for my understanding of a challenger brands greatest strengths and strategies. Not to turn this into a forum, I have a few questions though:Does anyone know more about Adam Morgan?Did he work for TBWA?Any other agencies? What was his discipline?Any info would help.

5-0 out of 5 stars one of the best marketing books available
I own (oooooh) probably between 80 and 100 books on marketing, some are obligatory read for my masters in marketing, some are handpicked in stores and on amazon and I stand by the title of my review. What can you take out from this book: YOU CAN compete with big brands, there are attitudes and ways of running your business that can knock down the goliath in your industry, and this book explains how, giving numerous examples from various industries. Only negative, if I can call it that, is author's writing style, which was rather hard for me, but then again, I am croatian, so it could be my english, not mr Morgan's :). A MUST!! have.

5-0 out of 5 stars Demolish the 3-piece suits that stand in your way
I don't know how to explain the insightful ideas I have taken from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
Like most good books dedicated to buying and selling on eBay this book fits that category nicely. It is aimed at the more serious seller and goes into several deep layers on techniques and strategies to make your activities lucrative and profitable. In all I like this book because it does contain a lot of useful information at whatever lengths you decide to take you're your eBay activities. If you want to really get out there in the trenches, this book will accommodate that ambition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A real "love-hate" relationship......
That's exactly what this book offers. You'll absolutely love the information the author offers, but you'll also hate yourself for not adding it to your eBay reference library sooner. The information discussed, and revealed, in this book will make you think, explore and create what you have wanted all those months you finally decided to be a successful eBay seller.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for powersellers & advanced users
The title of my review is not meant to suggest that this book won't work for beginners. It simply means that this is a book that ANY eBay user will be able to appreciate, even powersellers who assume there's nothing they can learn from a guide.
