4-0 out of 5 stars Great Ideas
Zig Ziglar definately gives alot of thoughts and ideas in the book. Some of the things he said, really hit home to me and I felt I could really apply what he was talking about.
5-0 out of 5 stars so what if hes christian?
a very ignorant thing to do would be to exclude everything he has to say because he would cite the bible or jesuses teachings.given alot of people are christian, alot of people dont mind.i myself am not christian, im a setian, however it doesnt mean that even when he cites the bible, what he has to say isnt valid or doesnt hold water.
5-0 out of 5 stars Right on Target Advice!
"In my own life I always pray for guidance as I choose my goals," writes Ziglar. In the margin I dated it and wrote "I do too." This book contains so much rich, practical, doable wisdom, not wonder it's a classic for achievers. Persistence leads to desired results. He quotes Robert Collier in making the point when he noted, "Success is the sum of small efforts--repeated day in and day out."Read more

Editorial Review

The transformation from a manufacturing-based economy to one that's all about service has been well documented. Today it's estimated that nearly 75 percent of Americans work in the service sector. Instead of producing tangibles--automobiles, clothes, and tools--more and more of us are in the business of providing intangibles--health care, entertainment, tourism, legal services, and so on. However, according to Harry Beckwith, most of these intangibles are still being marketed like products were 20 years ago.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Selling the Invisible: The Art of War
Harry Beckwith's Selling the Invisible reminds me of Sun Tzu's The Art of War in that it is not so much a manual on its subject as it is a primer on how to think about its subject. Knowing nothing of service marketing when I started to read it, I found many of its precepts counterintuitive (selling relationships?) but with the numerous examples aided by my own observation of the things Beckwith talks about, my eyes were opened in a way Sun Tzu's first readers must have been. Beckwith understands the core of service marketing is the service itself and focusing on the consumer's needs, not clever marketing designed to separate the customer from his cash or dazzle him with an empty sales pitch for unwanted products (take notice, Apple). This relationship to the customer and understanding his or her needs defines the successful business and indeed IS the successful business. Beckwith illustrates this with many practical strategies relevant to any service business.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy This Book!
Terrible is all I can say. This author breaks every rule he suggests to you.The introduction is boring. It is small story chapters with a bold sentence or two at the end. These are the principles he is suggesting. You can read these bold sentences in less than 30 minutes.Don't bother to buy this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have book for anyone involved in marketing and selling
This book is a real page-turner. (My copy is dog-eared with notes written in margins and post-it notes stuck on 11 different pages.)Harry Beckwith is a marketing genius. One quote I have used over and over again in presentations:"People who say, 'The businesses in our industry are basically alike' should recognize a human trait.People feel a need to justify their buying decisions, so they look for differences upon which to base their decisions. What does this mean to a company in an industry of lookalikes? It means that the more alike two products are, the more important each difference becomes."So very true.

4-0 out of 5 stars simple and fun
Caps for Sale is a delightful tale that is simple but with the right amount of absurdity that kids love. The repetition of words and the copycat element (when the monkeys imitate the peddler's actions)is entertaining for very young children.

5-0 out of 5 stars Funner than I even remembered!
In searching reviews to find great books, I struggled to remember if I liked this one as a kid!I remembered the cover, but not the story! When it came, I was delighted to find that I loved the story, and my son has a NEW favorite book!He grins ear to ear as soon as the peddler wakes up from his nap and discovers only one hat left on his head.My 20 month olddoesn't sit still from that point on in the story. He crouches so as to make monkey gestures and sounds. He wags his finger and says "tsk tsk tsk" just like the monkeys! He stomps his feet and waves his arms just like the monkeys! The monkeys are so mischievous, and I think my son relates! LOL!All in all, the little copycat monkeys throw their hats down to the peddler when he gets angry enough at their taunting to throw his hat down on the ground! It is very cute. There isn't variety in the illustrations as the same vintage colors are used on every page, but the story is so strong that I have to give this one 5 stars!Enjoy!I still do!

5-0 out of 5 stars Caps for Sale.........Caps for Sales......Caps for 50 cents!
"Caps for Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina is a marvelous children's book. An ingenious plot that I remember from my childhood. Now I am enjoying it again with my children. I was always fascinated by how he balanced those hats. The illustrations are quite simple but intriguing. Just looking at Pezzo with all those hats piled one on top of another is more interesting than many of the high tech special effects I have seen in today's movies. Sometimes the simple way is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Sales Solution!
This is the BIBLE for customer focused consultative selling!
5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Get Lost in the Sales Cycle
It would be great if you could develop some new technique for walking into a large corporation and closing a major sale on the first visit, but it rarely, if ever, happens.Chances are, you're in for drawn-out process with lots of players. Most corporate sales professionals meander through this process hoping to "do what it takes" to close the sale.Miller, Heiman finally offer up a way of keeping score -- of knowing where you stand in the process and what you have to do to keep it moving in the right direction. By developing a standard nomenclature to discuss buy types and their relevant position in the sales process, Miller, Heiman allow you to keep track for yourself, but discuss it with your sales management. This is likely the most important book about the strategic side of selling. I can guarantee you this:read this book -- practice the technicques within, and you will never find out you lost a sale after the fact.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive sales methodology
_Strategic Selling_ is a valuable book, especially for those of us who are not "salesmen" in the classic sense, but have to operate in the Complex Sales environment.Consultants and Client Relationship Managers will find it especially valuable. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Re-reading the Classics
The canon of Sales Lit goes back only a couple of decades. In that canon, Neil Rackham's first "Spin Selling" takes a special place as one of the classics or founding texts. So, if you need help preparing a meeting with one of your largest accounts, take the time to re-read this classic text.
4-0 out of 5 stars Revealing selling process
SPIN Selling illustrates the validaty of the method by showing how real Fortune 500 sales forces have improved by asking the right questions to uncover customer pain. This book will enlighten sales managers and any representatives who manage large sales transactions. Also, executives can benefit from the insights about large sales. I have personally improved my sales numbers greatly after utilizing the ideas in SPIN Selling. This book deserves a place in all-time sales manual classics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book on asking the right questions
A very good and interesting book and very easy to read. For me this book was very convincing for 2 important reasons: 1. SPIN selling is based upon scientific research of many sales calls for many years. 2. The idea of SPIN selling is about the fact that customers decide whether they buy somehting (or advance the sales call) upon their own ideas, their own beliefs, their own assumptions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy and fun read with an emphasis on Sales Professionalism
The Book is a joy to read and full of great suggestions on how to improve your sales. Some suggestions and topics should be 'common sense' but Zig shows how these common sense philosophys help you achieve extraordinary sales results. It is a must read for the True Sales Professional!

5-0 out of 5 stars Use Your Prospect's Objections to Make it Easyto Buy
When I first read this book, last month, I was drawn towards it because I couldn't find Maxwell Maltz's books on selling. And, I remember reviewing this book, thinking that I had not heard objections from my prospects, yet, by the time I read page 304, of this 400 page book, I created a notebook with 35 pages of notes, each begins with specific objections that I have heard.4-0 out of 5 stars 5 steps to succesful selling

4-0 out of 5 stars It helped me
I dont know the information it has is basic or advanced (because I'm not a sales guy) but I do know that it helped me a lot. I like the style of the book. Very very direct. Not like other books where author write the whole chapter for explaining one concept, beating the bushes. But it contains a lot of tips with enough explaination. I really like this book and will definitely recommend others. Again, I'm not a sales guy but starting my own business.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is what gives Salespeople a bad name!
In a nutshell, this book is awful. This guy is so clich, I am surprised he has been successful.I have taken many legitimate sales courses that have taught me great things about dealing honestly and candidly with customers, but Tom Hopkins suggests a different approach. He espouses that, when faced with rejection, you should accuse the customer of not trusting you or your companies integrity and to "guilt" them into giving in.This is NOT how professional salespeople become successful.Give me a break, buddy!Go back to selling steak knives door-to-door.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't believe every reviewer rating like the ones below this
I purchased this cassette based on the "consumer's review" from Chicago below.I usually trust customer reviews because when I write a review I am as honest and hopefully as helpful as I can be.So that I provide insight for someone thinking about making a purchase.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Read!
Doc Morey's inexpensive, practical book takes a no-nonsense approach to operating effectively on the telephone. He gives special attention to people who perform customer-service and sales roles. The book briefly describes common worker-on-the-phone problems and offers a quick rundown on how to overcome them. Its concise format helps make it a handy reference guide for anyone who regularly works on the telephone. The specific, efficient tools offered actually can increase your telephone effectiveness, so we [...] recommend this book for anyone who uses the phone in business, especially telemarketers and customer service representatives. Supervisors might want to take a look, as well, so they can train staffers and develop guidelines.

"Advanced Selling Strategies" in an excellent audio cassette by Brian Tracy. I have now developed exceptional self-confidence in my selling abilities. I have now managed to overcome the psychological barriers that were curtailing my sales and personal success. I have acquired skills and expertise on various facets of selling such as creating positive first impression, how to create a unique selling proposition, how to develop trust with my prospects, and how I should close the sale.

A must have , great easy to listen beautifully narrated, excelent tips one of the best, perfect for every level, highly recomended. Defenitely worth every penny.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you are a pro, there is still some value, if you are new it is good stuff
I would not say The Art of Closing Sales has any ground breaking secrets that you cannot find in other sales books or courses. I will say the presentation style worked well for me. The information is not flying by to fast nor does it drag on and on. I would say for a professional seller who has been doing this for years will find a few points that maybe of value. Someone who is getting into selling should find this helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars An appetizer, but not the ful meal
This tape set by Brian Tracy is an abridged version of the program by the same name that Brian did for Nightingale-Conant and his fabulous seminar.

4-0 out of 5 stars Better Than Some I've Read
I have to admit that I had never read any of Janet Evanovich's books until this one. Some of the reviews here were not as favorable as I would have expected. The reviewers were disappointed that nothing new had been revealed to them, wrt the mechanics of writing, but so what? I have many books at home dealing with that and can refer to them when needed. My interest in reading How I Write was just to get this particular author's view of the writing life. What motivated her to chose the mystery genre and how she came up with plots for her series of novels about Stephanie Plum. I wasn't at all disappointed in what I read and was actually inspired to get back to my own writing, particularly the advice Miss Evanovich gave to stop working and reworking the first chapter and to move on asap to chapter two. It helped to unstick myself and to move forward. Since finishing this book, I've begun reading the Stephanie Plum books. They are fast paced and quite humorous. I recommend How I Write to anyone who needs a chuckle and a little motivation.

4-0 out of 5 stars If You Like Evanovich, You'll Like This Book
I've been a fan of Janet Evanovich since her first Stephanie Plum novel. I like her breezy and humorous style, and it's in great evidence in How I Write.
1-0 out of 5 stars Mostly fluff

After reading the first 10 chapters of this book, I picked up several techniques and ideas from Tom's strategies that helped me. They helped me so much in fact, that I got two listings in one week! The commission on those two listings totaled $20,610! If I could recommend any sales book for a beginning sales person, or an experienced sales person that just needs some new ideas, this would be it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for anyone in sales!
I found this book to be very helpful. My close ratio has increased by 150%! But most importantly, now that I have this knowledge I can finally afford a pool table for my basement and daily veterinarian appointments for my cat!

Truly a fine compilation of the best sales closings and how to use them. ... Read more
