Comprehensive and with depth
Well, I wrote about 10 reviews on trading books so far, so that should clear off some doubts of the previous reviewer.
You've got to wonder
Every reviewer rates this an exceptional book and every reviewer has only rated one book, this one. Isn't that strange (rhetorical question). I read a great many reviews of trading books; go to a book by Elder or one of the other market gurus and you'll find reviewers who have read and reviewed scads of trading books. There's of course no way for me to know, but maybe the author's real talent is writing trading book reviews.

More conspiracy theory propaganda
Wake up and understand who controls the media and who they vote for.Why would these Dem voting owners and employees possibly push a Republican Agenda?Can you possibly answer that?
ed herman's a genius
Ed Herman has often written quietly behind Chomsky's bigger name but he's no less important a messenger and translator of American media and foreign policy bias and hypocrisy. Manufacturing Consent is a withering analysis of these "inconvenient truths."Herman and Chomsky's important writings, both as collaborators and individuals, have been largely ignored by the mainstream press for the last 40 years, affirming, ironically, their very thesis. If you read this book undefensively, putting aside your biases, you will experience Kierkegaard's "fear and trembling." If you read Ed Herman's other books, you'll appreciate why he's not more widely known, but should be.

A very important book
In Manufacturing Consent, Hermann and Chomsky present a very powerful institutional analysis of the media.The authors put forth a "propaganda model" which outlines various ways in which the media filter information to serve the interest of the powerful elites.Although the propaganda model makes sense from a logical and theoretical standpoint (given the economic constraints faced in the news industry), the real power of the book are case studies that provide near bullet-proof support for the model.In fact, the model is introduced in the first chapter, while the remainder of the book is a series of case studies.Even the most skeptical reader (as I was) will be pretty hard pressed to poke holes in the model after the gauntlet of case studies it is put through.Because this book tells us so much about the objectivity of the news we receive from the agenda setting news sources, I honestly believe that Manufacturing Consent is one of the most important books ever written.

Packed With Powerful Information About Selling Books Online!
I knew I was going to like this book when after a short treatise on "Why Online Bookselling?" the author immediately launched into the nitty gritting of what every aspiring book seller wants to know: "Where to Find Books,"beginning on page 13, followed by "What Books to Buy." One by one he not only lists his most successful sources for finding valuable books for resale, he goes into depth to explain how to extract the maximum benefit from each source.
A Great Business Idea!!
I recently purchased the book, "The Home-Based Bookstore" by Steve Weber and found it to be an amazing business opportunity idea.I have loved books all my life and have even considered opening a bookstore or comic shop.While this book does not mention anything about opening a comic shop, the model could be applied with ease.This book tells you how to find books to sell, grade them, organize your inventory, and shipping.It also goes into customer service and feedback which is very important.If you have always wanted your own business and be your own boss, then I highly recommend giving this book a try.

All serious book sellers need this book!
I have been looking on-line for a good, recently written, book about bookselling and more importantly, selling books on amazon. And I found it!Steve Weber's book has a wealth of information in it for booksellers.I particularly liked the section on where and how to find good books, because I feel exhausted at times, trying to find good books.However, there are many sections that provide a wealth of information in Steve's book.

Part of the equation
Pro photographers use a variety of methods of marketing their work, from advertising to word of mouth, with each method tailored to the particular type of work that the photographer wants to do.Freelance photojournalism and fine art photography and portrait sittings all require their own brand of selling.

Lots of information, horrible presentation
I am in my last year of school and preparing to embark on a career in banking. Out of all the finance and economics (I'm a double major) textbooks I have used this is the absolute worst bar none. While the text has a very large amount of information that same information is simply thrown at you with no real presentation.

TEDIOUS, REPETITIVE, BUY NYQUILL INSTEAD!!
This is likely the worst textbook I have come accross in my finance career.The writing is extremely dry and the authors do not make an effort to summarize anything.They love narrating long concepts and mixing it with dull examples that make you completely lost.The concepts in each chapter are repeated twice for absolutely no reason.This sucker will make you fall asleep as fast as NyQuill - without the good relaxing feeling. ... A book from a REAL trader
What I really liked most about this book is that it was written by someone who actually trades for a living instead of a vendor who makes his living off selling courses, classes, and books. Gary Smith took a $2,000 account which he struggled with for 19 years to a $700,000 account after reading hundreds of trading books. How did he do this? By finally quitting trying to go for the big when and focused on gaining money each month. He really made the big money at first by trading S&P futures then when he got in the 6 figure range he switched to mutual funds only because he can not deal with the volitilitu of individual stocks. This book is like a modern day version of Nicolas Darvas's "How I made $2,000,000" it is the true story ofhow an individual broke the trading code. Here are my key learnings:
Refreshing honesty with no hype
This was one of the first books I bought on trading while I was doing it part time. I was struck by all of the parallels between what he had experienced and what I was experiencing in my trading.
Gary Smith Is the Real Deal
I first learned about Gary Smith on the floor of the CBOT, where he was something of a living legend to speculators there. This man is the real deal. Yes, he actually knows how to trade, unlike the myriad of charlatans in the trading book business. One of the most important points to emanate from Smith's book is the fact that the man went through years of suffering as he attempted to reach his goal. Trading is not something you can master in a few months. Many people quit lucrative jobs thinking they are going to be the next Jesse Livermore or Nicholas Darvas. Folks, it's not going to happen unless you are prepared to study, work hard and take a series of blows to your trading account and your ego.

Full of Lies
Let's face facts: home depot is known for abysmal service and really, really shoddy haphazard installations.They probably spend more on defending lawsuits than on store development.This book makes them look like such wizards, such brilliant and benevelont businessmen, when in fact they have done studies to see what the minimum level of customer service they can get away with is - and then tried to stretch that envelope. A great story...
and very well told, which really makes this book a fast read (I had a hard time putting it down).Read more

totally worthless
It always amazes me how some people have the ability to write a whole book with nothing to say. If you can make money using the techniques in this book please email me, as far as I'm concerned this book is only meant to promote their services. The second half of the book is surely meant to impress, not to teach. I hate these selling techniques: they even make us pay for their promotional material.

Pragmatic advise to those who can listen.
If one were to follow the advise in this book, they would be successful.The author leaves nothing to chance and is trying to teach the reader that he too must leave nothing to the whim of the market.The premise on which this excellent book is founded is to react to the market and not forecast it.As Jea Yu points out, it is harder to do than you might expect. The battleground is really the "baggage" that we all bring to the table - our ego's, our budget and most of all our bad judgment.This is a great book and teaches a winning style, if the trader has the discipline to follow it.

Outstanding. Read it again and again.
A novice should probably read that fluffy Toni Turner book to get an idea of the lingo, but no one should contemplate day trading without reading Lu. This book is a detailed description of the intricacies of no-nonsense, hardcore daytrading, written by a consistently successful practitioner. Read more

Fundimentally flawed, but a fun think piece.
In Team Rodent, Carl Hiaasen delivers an honestly entertaining picture of his own reservations at what he sees as the Disney Corporation's attempts at becoming a culturally omnipotent force.This piece is more of a political pamphlet in format: it's too long to be considered a simple essay, but it's certainly short enough to be read in a single sitting.
A quick, fun read for Hiaasen's fans
Not much to add beyond the title of this review. Yup, Carl despises Disney.A very lucid and well written diatribe.

In this essay-style book, Hiaasen takes on Disney and all its decadence from the point of view of a true Floridian. Very funny and full of disturbing Disney facts (including one about the mysterious torture and death of an Animal Kingdom rhino; ties between Disney and the destruction caused by Hurricane Andrew; and all the yucky deals made between the rat and the state of FL's government). An overall good book that needs some update and expansion.
Two knowledgable authors gave in-depth treatments on the subject of DCM. The math is fairly easy to follow in most places. The biggest strength is a nice combination of theoretical and practical issues. The readers howevershould be benefitted from a new edition, which should include, among otherthings, extended exposures on ordered responses and grouped/aggregated dataanalyses with DCM. An introduction to the existing software and relevantissues should also be a plus.

Neat To Read But Probably Not That Useful In Real Life
I don't know how useful this book actually is to anyone, but it makes for interesting reading, if for no other reason than because it shows that an organized grass roots countercultural "underground" is as alive and well in America today as it was when the first of these books came out back in the days of hippiedom's original flowering two generations ago.

if possible, I'd get this book less than one star
In comparison to "Whole Earth Catalog:Access to Tools" the Millenium Edition was - at least to my tastes - horrifyingly bad. "Access to Tools" presented information to solve problems. A true visionary
As a music industry vet, I can say without hesitation, that Gerd is one of the few people I have run across that GETS the reality of where music business is going.This is a must read for anyone who wants the inside track in succeeding on all levels in the business.

Great so far
This book is very easy to understand, but my copy is missing pages 100-117. Plus, pages 177-133 are repeated later in the book. Something must have gone wrong in the printing press!

Too simplistic
A much too simplistic look at a complex issue- intergenerational-management. To read this book, you'd think that Gen X and Baby Boomers are dinasaurs with attitude problems and that Gen Y comes to the work place with nothing but exceptional skills and enthusiasm. It would have been much more valuable to compare positive work styles and philosophies of these different generations, rather than using the extremes of one generation representing the nightmarish boss and the other representing the bright young professional. Keep shopping for a better book.

Answers to Key Issues
This book is an easy read providing answers to the many difficult questions surrounding Generation Y.Mr. Tulgan identifies important characteristics, and management techniques for dealing with Generation Y employees.Perhaps the best tools are the "real-life" practices he outlines to deal with the fouteen characteristics of the new workforce.I highly recommend this work for any manager with young employees.

Help with Gen Y-ers
As a Boomer in charge of a bunch of entry-level Yers, a lot of what Martin and Tulgan had to say about this generation really hit the target. I find my Yers incredibly impatient about getting training and having more responsibility. It seems like they all expect to go from college grad to CEO in their first year! On top of it all, I have several that are pains in the neck about all kinds of things--pay, dress code, scheduling, you name it, they want to change it. I bought this book to see if I could find a way to rein my Yers into our work culture. Martin and Tulgan showed me that I was thinking about all these things as problems, when they're really solutions. In the book, they give fourteen ways of being a better Gen Y manager, along with tons of ideas on how to achieve each one. Some of the ideas are better for me in my position in my company than others, but there's something there for everyone at every level in every company. ... Read more

Outstanding and Scholarly but. . .
From primarily economic and historical perspectives, this is a wonderful and very scholarly book. From the perspective of sociology and anthropology, it is however unfortunate that virtually all Muslims despite their actual national or ethnic backgrounds are referred to as "Arabs."Even Berbers are nowhere mentioned. With this exception, this is a monumental work of scholarship.

The most brilliant work of medieval scholarship in years!
First, before you proceed any further with this book, you ought to know that it is not abou the origins of the European economy.If you are looking for a book about economic life and change in Europe between 300 and 900, this is not really the book for you.McCormick's book is specifically about trade, and largely "international" trade, between these years. a real must for scholars
To write a history of the changing patterns in economy between the slow end of ancient world and the slow birth of middle ages is a great challenge for any scholar who tried, but I do recommend this "Bible" to all who are interested in this subject.
