5-0 out of 5 stars I've never read a more interactive book!
I have read a lot of books recently to increase my work knowledge, and I have to say that this book was the easiest and most fun to read. The writers have done an excellent job getting the reader involved, which increases the amount of information one is able to remember. This book is a real pionner in how to write educative books.Oh, yea, and the content was outstanding!

5-0 out of 5 stars Telling Aint Training
Great book!! Any body in the training field should get a copy. Herald Stolovitch and Erica Keeps keep the reader involved throughout the entire book with constant examples and activities that are very interesting and fun. I am in the US military and training is constant in my job. Techniques are drawn out and easy to understand, making it easy for anybody to comprehend and transfer to their own training. The use of the five step training model really sets up how a training session should be held. I will use this book over and over again in the development of my professional training career.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gets to the Heart of Training
Stolovitch gets to the heart of training--changing the behavior of the trainees. Whether you are giving a short speech or conducting a three day training session, Stolovitch shows how simply dumping facts (what everybody does) is never effective. This message can not be said enough. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good guide, but can be confusing sometimes
This is a good book. It is crammed with lots of information that is specific to the loan industry. It is a comprehensive guide covering most of the aspects of the loan industry. I turn to this guide every now and then to check up on problems and questions that I run into with my loans.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for the new mortgage broker!
I wish I had found this book the very day I passed my state exam.It would have saved me much frustration and my confidence could have been boosted a lot sooner, which is key to succeeding in this business. This book is putting me equal to, if not ahead of many people who have been in the business for years.I'm shocked at how little people know and I'm pleased at how much I've learned from this book.Absolutely the best money I've spent on my new career!

5-0 out of 5 stars Jameson Thottam (worked with The Loan Page, IndyMac Bank, Homestore)

4-0 out of 5 stars Tools for creating a Learning Culture
Peter M Serge, The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook
4-0 out of 5 stars enlightening concepts about leadership
It seems to me that The Fifth Discipline (the previous publication of the series) is more attacting to me. The second book can be more precise and concise in content. Generally speaking I still like these two books as a foreign reader.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Fifth Discipline
This book is a collection of theoretical summaries, reports, analyses, and strategies all quite useful to anyone interested in generating some thinking and action around change. The team of five writers (Peter Senge, Richard Ross, Bryan Smith, Charlotte Roberts, and Art Kleiner) provide some original work, but also serve as editors to a vast quantity of material drawn from practitioners, theorists, and writers in the field of organizational improvement. According to Senge, "great teams are learning organizations - groups of people who, over time, enhance their capacity to create what they truly desire to create." (p.18) This book is really about creating and building great teams. The learning organization develops its ability to reflect on, discuss, question, and change its current and past practices. To do this, people and groups in the organization need to meaningfully pursue the study and practice of the five disciplines - personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and systems thinking. 5-0 out of 5 stars OUTSTANDING!
This great book should be on the desk of every stressed out business executive. It brilliantly describes what it takes to be in a peak state of mind when you need to be.There is no question that business people as wellas everyone should train their bodies to get their minds in top shape.Thisbook illustrates that with great information about diet, exercise, and properattitude.A wise investment.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lacking new Insight to an age-old problem
I waited in anticipation for this book to arrive. Much hype had been made about this new research and the 21 day plan.Business men and women stuggle to balance work and home-life, and the foundation of this book isright on. If we loose weight, drink more water and exercise we will havemore energy for both. The problem with this book is that it says verylittle more.I found myself brousing through the book looking for newideas to give me some boost. The book does have some excellent chapters onhow to deal with stress in the work place. In fact, this book is worthbuying just for these two chapters. However, for those of us who read selfhelp books on a daily basis, you might be looking for more.

5-0 out of 5 stars At the Top of Your Game
Finally - a book that delivers on its promise to help you get to the top of your game, to help you achieve maximal performance levels in life - and does so using a common sense approach that integrates experience, study andscience with focus and commitment. The key is training like an athletewhether its following an exercise or nutrition program or developing apositive attitude. What a refreshingly realistic concept in this "apill a day takes the fat away" world!Through Dr. Groppel'sconvincing clarity, it all makes perfect sense. And you don't have to bein the business arena to benefit from the principles of THE CORPORATEATHLETE.Maximizing performance can be a goal that crosses age, gender andoccupational or vocational boundaries. But what makes this book stand outfor me is Dr. Groppel's holistic approach - completing the palate offitness by incorporating the physical, mental and emotional with thespiritual. It takes courage to take spirituality out of its politicallycorrect closet and plop it onto the Board Room table, to make it a keycomponent of performance enhancement.Could it be that the growth ofcourage, confidence, conviction and character is a natural end product ofone's development into the ultimate corporate athlete? I am convinced, after reading the book, that this is the case. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Worth The Effort
This book described my work environment to a "T". You can drive yourself dizzy motivating your employees with certificates, gifts, or money and they still don't perform to your expectations. 365 Ways To Motivate And Reward discusses the motivators, which drive a person to work. The book advises managers to fit recognition to their staff's motivators. Helpful surveys, provided in the book, can reveal employees' motivators and guide you to the appropriate form of recognition. It further stresses that recognition begins with daily interaction. The tips for recognition that the book provides are mind-boggling. Tips range from one-year of dog food to senior management washing employees' cars. It seemed silly to me at first, but these suggestions beat a boring certificate and they probably make a bigger impact. It is a chore getting educated on the book's theories and putting its practices into action, but it's worth the effort if it results in better productivity and smiling employees.

5-0 out of 5 stars Motivate Young Employees
I was often puzzled by employees in their early 20s.They brought different values, expectations and skills to the workplace. My job was to teach them the service ethic, to keep them long enough to get the benefit of my training efforts and keep them motivated to put in a good day's work.

2-0 out of 5 stars MostDisappointing
Having worked in the mental health community for sometime, I was already familiar with this technique and have been using it already.I felt the book was really droll and somewhat condescending in tone.I wouldn't purchase it again. His companion book "Why Employees Don't Do What They're Supposed to Do and What to Do about It" is a more practical read and enjoyable too--I would recommend that one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Coaching for Improved Work Performance
Good, basic book on how to work with employees to uncover and address performance issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for eLearning Designers and Reviewers
With many years of experience in building eLearning and educational software I was looking for a reference to back up my "I know it when I see it" thoughts on good and bad courseware. This book met or exceeded my expectations. I like that the chapters are shorter and that the observations are backed up with study results. The References section is a valuable collection of eLearning studies in itself. There are also useful checklists included with the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars A book that every person in this field need to use
e-Learning and the Science of Instruction is a must have for anybody that is already a pro, or just starting out at designing web-based instruction. The authors give outstanding guidance for every step of the way, from explaining theories to the best way to set up your web site.It shows excellent illustrations of what to do, as well as what NOT to do.This book is a tool that every one in the business shouldn't be without.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent practical book for practitioners
I have been designing and developing e-Learning for 6 years and this book has been wonderful to help remind me of some basics, teach me a few things, and give excellent practical advice as I continue developing.I am not one to read textbooks or non-fiction but I find this writing style very easy to read and I am able to easily apply the concepts. If you have never developed e-Learning but are studying the topic in school, this book may come across as dry and hard to read.Hold on to it and pick it up after you've been developing for a year or so and I'm sure you'll find it as useful as I have. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of Content Here
Pike packs in the content here. Thorough and updated, this book should be a part of any trainer's library.

4-0 out of 5 stars Turn nervousness into confidence
I am an independent corporate trainer and saw this book praised in a variety of places. I bought it and read it from cover to cover. While I was reading it, I kept saying to myself, "Isn't this stuff kind of simple?" When I finished reading it, I felt like I had not learned enough to justify the high price. These first impressions were not lasting impressions. Here is how I can tell: Whenever I feel nervous about a new training assignment, I open this book and quickly find solutions that turn my nervousness into confidence. I grew to understand that the simplicity I observed during my first reading is actually the result of skillful winnowing by an expert.5-0 out of 5 stars The best book I've read on the subject
I've had a bit of a hard time finding books on training the trainer to train and I feel that this is THE book that does it best.I work for a new company and ended up doing most of the training of new employees.I've thoroughly enjoyed it and this book helped me to be more effective at it.I love the 'instructor led, participant centered' idea that he presents. It allows me to treat the trainees as adults but we still have fun.Being new to training I didn't feel that he was talking over my head.It was to the point, useful information that I was immediatly able to put to good use. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Use
Opening a dining establishment is complex. There are many different things that need to be taken into consideration from food costs to training of employees. For those who have never had a restaurant before, the training of employees could be a little intimidating, especially when it comes to those who interact with the customers and whose service could make or break the business, the wait staff. This book takes the bewilderment out of hiring and training these very important people.
2-0 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected!
I purchased this book to help me become a Professional.I have had experience in the Food Service Industry and was looking for some help in Fine Dining. This is a beginner book.I have since purchased the book entitled - Remarkable Service - published by The Culinary Institute of America and found it to be a source of "Higher Class" Instruction.I would not recommend Waitstaff Training Handbook unless you are a beginner and would like to be bored to death. It touches on the basics but does not go into depth. I find it too simplistic.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Academic
This book is much too academic. Can somebody recommend an organizational change book written by a practitioner? This book is designed for undergraduate students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional 'Keeper'
This 'Guide' book is one of four used in a Human Resource Development course that I took in a masters program. The content is the type that will be referred to over and over again in the course of an HRDV career. Some principles should not change, and the ones in this book are rich.A copy is staying in my personal library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terra Vanzant-Stern, PMP, SPHR/GPHR, Director of OD and Training, IHS, Denver, Colorado
As a Director of Organizational Development and Training, I am always searching for resources that will allow cost-effective implementation of new programs.L. Bonita Patterson, one of the authors of the book, is the president of Colorado Human Resource Association in Denver, Colorado. Her personal grasp of emotional intelligence and her business savvy prompted me to read the book. I have always believed that happiness and optimism leads to success. It was exciting to see Ms. Patterson validate that these were important competencies of Emotional Intelligence. All of the information and exercises, in this book, may be used in individual coaching sessions, staff meetings and in formal training. This flexibility and format is very appealing to professionals who want to implement quality training and/or facilitate meaningful conversations about emotional awareness.L. 5-0 out of 5 stars Practical ideas for facilitators
I have worked with adult learners for more than fifteen years and have always tried to incorporate whole-brained, participative learning. This book provided some excellent theoretical background as well as a lot of new instantly usable ideas.I wasn't even all the way through before I applied a couple of the techniques and got an excellent response from my client.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent training tool
I was getting ready to prepare a training program for 44 persons when I read this book.Immediately! after I used the guidelines to prepare my session.Preparation was fast and easy -and fun! I really couldn't believe that it was that easy to apply and it has been one of my best sessions to date. I refer to it when I need a refresher or a new perspective. I definately reccomend this book for trainers who need to keep their material fresh and interesting (esp. in-house trainers).

4-0 out of 5 stars Accelerated Learning Handbook
Finally, teachers and administrators have a useful tool to recharge their classrooms/schools. We have become so test oriented that many times we forget that the process of learning comes from the doing. The statement comes to mind that we utter with new approaches," When do I have the time to get it all in?". That is where the problem lies! We are so pressured with these new demands that we loose sight of what is important, the process. This book will give us a clearer picture of how we can recharge our teaching and can provide the key so we can use the ideas to change the way we teach or approach the students' learning who are in our care. ...
