My Review of Artemis Fowl The Lost Colony
I think Artemis Fowl The Lost Colony is a great book.As with all Artemis Fowl book's it was suspenseful, "filled to brim with action", and always kept reader guessing.
The Best One Yet
This is the best one in the seris yet! Mr. Colfer has struck again with another enhancing novel under the Artemis Fowl seris.

I steamrolled through the first four books in the Artemis Fowl series this past spring and found them genuinely delightful. Unlike some other reviewers I think that this book is best when read in the context of the series, and not as a standalone.

A VERY WELL DONE BOOK - QUITE INFORMATIVE
I normally do not care all that much for "pop-up" type books, as they tend to sort of come apart at the seams with constant use.This one is differnt though.It is well made and is able to stand a lot of use and abuse.The story is great, tellin the life cycle of a butterfly.The illustrations are quite colorful and very easy to follow and understand.The text goes perfectly with the pictures and it is amazing how how the little one cannot keep thier fingers out of the many holes the caterpillar chews through on his way to becoming a butterfly.This explains the life cycle of the butterfly.I found, with my grandchildren, that after reading the book (time and time again) that when we captured a live caterpillar, gave it plenty to eat, and let it go through the entire process as shown in the book, they, the grandchildern were absolutely fascinated.Recommend this one highly.

Love this book!!!
This book is one of my childrens' favorites.From the time they were both too little to know their days of the week they still chimed in when the caterpillar ate and ate and was "Still Hungry" until they could say the days of the week with no problem, this book will forever be a staple among my families' collections.The illustrations are Eric Carle's usual terrific array of colors and creatures. This book is also great for nursery school teachers to read and explain to their children the beautiful transformation from caterpillar to butterfly by using live caterpillars as an educational tool.

Wonderful, colorful book

My daughter LOVES this book
I actually surprisingly just bought this book earlier today and my almost 17 month old daughter already loves it.She loves the rhythm of the words and the large colorful animals.She like the fact that she is familiar with all the animals and can tell me what noise they make. I purchased the board book because she like to turn the pages on her own and I didn't want the book to be messed up.All in all. . . NO REGRETS

Great book to bond with your child
This is the first book that my daughter and I read every night.She points out the different animals when I read.It is a great book that teaches colors and animals.I recommend this book to every parent as first reading material with your child.

"Inspiring!"
this book falls under my favorites!In the beginning of he book the demonic Opal Koboi reluctantley plans her revenge to kill Captain Holly Short and Artemis Fowl.While Opal Koboi is plotting in her fake coma, she secretley breaks out and is finally ready to kill Holly and Artemis.This book was absolutely phenominal!!the plot stuck right on a trail but ended completely unpredictable.the character were very believeable except for most of the mystical creatures, but you could feel their emotions.this book in my opinion ranks right up nest to Harry Potter, Eoin Colfer did an excellent job!!

Holly, a soldier in the lepRecon has messed up many times.Last time she got captured trying to replenish her magic by the wicked Fowl family.This time when she replenishes her energy and strength Artemis visited her for help (not very likely).There is a new enemy among the community and he might even have out smarted Artemis himself.

My 9 month old loves this book!
I read many board books to my son and the first time I read this to him, he couldn't get enough!We haven't bought Brown Bear yet, but certainly do that after seeing his reaction to this book.
Not what I was expecting
I was so pleasantly surprised when our copy of Polar Bear, Polar Bear arrived, I immediately read it to my 2 and a half year old son.He owns the board book, so I decided to purchase another copy since the board book has seen better days.We both just simply loved the replacement.It was in mint condition and the quality of the pages is wonderful.Couldn't be more satisfied with our find!!!

Hi!I just finished reading BUD, NOT BUDDY by Christopher Paul Curtis. It's a very good book I must say and this is why I give it a 5 star rating.

"Bud, Not Buddy" was a heart-felt book. Ten-year-old Bud Caldwell was the main character of this book. His mother had died when he was six years old. He had a suitcase with his personal things in there. Nobody was allowed to look in there without his permission. He also wrote a book for himself. It was called,"Bud Caldwell's Rules and Things for Having a Funner Life and Making A Better Liar Out Of Yourself." Bud's mom never mentioned anything about his father. He had a flyer in his suitcase that had a picture of a band on it. He was pretty sure that the person who played the bass was his father. Herman E. Calloway was the guy's name. Since he had nowhere to live, he went in search for Mr. Calloway. Bud's destination was Grand Rapids. In order to get to grand Rapids, he had to get to Hooverville, Flint. He was already living in Flint. He just had to find Hooverville. Hooverville was a place for people without money. When he got to Hooverville, Bud made a new friend named Deza Malone. She later became his girlfriend. She gave him tips for living life without money. Bud's ticket to Grand Rapids was just a train ride away. Unfortunatly, Bud missed the train. He had to walk from there. He was stopped by a man named Lefty Lewis. He offered Bud a ride to his home. Since Bud didn't have a home, he had to use his book to get him out of this mess. Bud told him that he lived in Grand Rapids and that Herman E. Calloway. was his father. Lefty Lewis fell for it and took Bud to Grand Rapids. Bud was finally at his destination. He went inside the building where the band practiced. He confronted Mr. Calloway and told him that he was his Bud's father. Mr. Calloway was mad at this and replied with a no. Bud didn't believe him. At the end of the story, Bud finds out that Herman E. Callowaywas actually his grandfather. I would have never guessed this ending until I read the entire book. It was very surprising. Bud Caldwell came looking for a home and ended up being with his long-lost grandfather. He struggled through some difficult times but he succeeded in the end. ... Read more

Great Book for Soon to be Big Brothers!
My son is just barely 6 and will be a big brother in about 3 weeks.I got this book to help prepare him for the arrival of his baby sister and it was a great purchase.It has helped him understand that the baby will be pretty helpless for a while, and that he can help with the baby.It also talks about how great it is to be the "big kid". It is a simple book that doesn't have a lot of pages.It would definitely be appropriate for younger children.

Cute -- not memorable.
Great pictures. Just an average book. It is written from the point of view of once the baby is home. At any rate, it helps get your child ready for the coming arrival.

A great teaching tool!
My 21-month-old son loved this book while I was pregnant. When the baby was born, he quoted the book to us many times, going over and over what babies can and cannot do. "Can't walk, can't talk, can't play toys...can drink milk, can sleep, can cry."I think it really helped him with a difficult adjustment, and gave him the reassurance that Mommy and Daddy love him still, even though there was a new baby to love, too. ... Artemis Fowl
I myself am a huge fan of sci-fi fantasy. I like HP, Artemis Fowl, and others. So I'm not taking sides on HP vs. Artemis Fowl. I found this book enjoyable and a quick read. It was very different from what I expected, though. For instance, fairies are extremely technologically advanced. It's filled to the brim with excitement and adventure. Artemis captures LEP officer, Holly Short, and when she is freed, Artemis must escape the bio-bomb. I think that this is a good book for all ages.

A little slow
After reading the Harry Potter series with my son, we decided to try this book. I was a little disappointed in the story and the pace.

Good for families who are adopting
My husband and I are adopting a baby boy. I have been trying to find a 'Big Sister' book for our daughter, but so many of them are about mom being pregnant and giving birth to the new sibling. Thisbook is the only one I have seen that is suitable for both situations (adoption or giving birth). The story itself is simple, but very sweet and reassuring for the older child. My daughter absolutely loves it.

Favorite of 2-yr-old big sister
Our daughter was given this book a few months before her baby sister arrived.She liked it alot pre-sis and still requests it now that li'l sis is here. Upon receiving it, I didn't think much of it (not a "cool", super-aesthetically pleasing cover), but my daughter really liked it.The book always refers to "our baby" so that it works expecting boy or girl.I really appreciated the intro to what baby will be like - my daughter thus was able to enthusiastically spout some facts (slightly altered/added by us) about baby before she arrived - "Baby cry alot.Baby poop alot.Baby sleep in crib."As for the book baby being bottle-fed, I just told our daughter that our baby would nurse (fortunately we had friends that were nursing so she could see what it was versus me explaining it ;). Overall - I'm ordering the book for my sister-in-law who's expecting her second.

Way too mainstream.
My mother bought this book for my daughter, and I absolutely detested in.My daughter was confused as well, as to why everything was "wrong," especially with the bottlefeeding.I know most women give up quickly on breastfeeding, but couldn't the author even pretend that some women breastfeed?And of course the baby is always in a stroller or bouncy seat, sleeps in a crib, etc.

Best pop-up book so far.........
This is one of the best pop-up books around. I also LOVE his other book The Wizard of Oz. My daughter LOVES this book also! She brought it for show and tell and her classmates were oohing and aahing throughout the whole book. This is a must-have for your bookshelf. The pop-ups are very detailed and just amazing! 5 stars is just not enough for this 10+ stars book.

A great gift
This book is an incredible pop up book!I purchased it for myfour year old daughter.There is too much text to actually read the story to her but we all know the story so we make it up and enjoy the pop ups.It is a book that requires supervision for younger children because the pop ups are delicate and amazing.It is a wonderful unique gift to give at birthday parties when everyone else gives toys! We love this book and have great interaction reading it and talking about the story and pop ups!

The Watsons Go To Birmingham was a story about real life things. In the beginning, Byron and Kenny are outside scraping ice off of the Brown Bomber a.k.a. the Watsons car. Then Kenny hears a noise coming from the other side of the car where Byron is. He doesn't go over there because he thinks Byron will trick him, because a few days before Byron and Buphead (Byron's best friend) played a trick on Kenny and hit him in the face with snowballs. When Kenny goes to the other side finally he sees Byron's lips stuck to the mirror. He then ran in to get the family. Daniel (their dad) started laughing because he had never seen anything like that. Daniel and Wilona (their mom) were trying to think of a way to get Byron's lips off of the mirror. Daniel decided to get water so he could pore it on Byron's lips but it just made it. Wilona tells the family to go inside then. When they were all inside Wilona pulled on Byron's lips until they came off. When Kenny was in school he got picked on by Larry Dunn because he had a lazy eye and he was a good reader. One day a new kid named Rufus came to school at Clark. Rufus started getting picked on more than Kenny because Rufus talked different (he had lived in Arkansas) and Rufus didn't have a lot of clothes. Kenny and Rufus became good friends but one day somebody said something about Rufus and Kenny laughed. Since Kenny laughed at him Rufus stopped hanging out with Kenny. They ended up fixing the problem and became friends again. When winter came, Kenny shared his gloves with Rufus for awhile but then decided to act like he had lost them so his mom gave him his other pair of leather gloves and Rufus got the old pair. Then one day, Kenny's gloves went missing and Larry Dunn had gotten a pair of leather gloves instead of cheap plastic ones. Kenny found out that Larry had stolen his gloves so Byron and Buphead beat Larry up. Kenny then got his gloves back. When Byron kept lighting matches in the house Wilona got mad at him and said if he would do it one more time she would do something to him. Then one day, Kenny saw that Byron went into the bathroom and locked the door so he went and looked through the key hole. He saw Byron in there making Kleenex's into parachutes and then lighting matches and burning the parachutes to where they would fall into the toilet. When Wilona came upstairs she smelled smoke and saw Kenny looking through the keyhole so she got Byron out of there and took him downstairs. Then Joey started crying because Mama had gotten out matches and Vaseline. She knew that Mama was going to burn some part of Byron. Joey then got scared and kept getting in front of Byron so Mama couldn't burn him. When she got Joey away she lit a match but Joey ran over and blew out every match that Mama lit. So Byron never got burned. Since their dad only paid for groceries at one time Byron and Kenny thought they were on welfare but then found out they weren't. A few days later Kenny found Byron in a tree behind the grocery store with a full bag and an empty bag of Swedish cream cookies. When Kenny realized what Byron had done it was too late because he couldn't tell on him since he had eaten some of the cookies. A few days later, Byron came home with his hair straightened and permanent red gunk in his hair. Wilona was in shock because she and Daniel had told Byron not to put that stuff in his hair. Wilona knew he had gotten the stuff from Buphead because he was the only other kid with hair like that. Daniel then shaved all Byron's hair off! A few weeks later the Watsons started packing for Birmingham. They were going to Alabama to see Wilona's family. They decided that Byron would stay with Grandma Sands for the whole summer and maybe the school year. The family drove straight through all the way to Alabama. While they were down south the kids went swimming and Kenny almost got pulled under but Byron saved him. Joey went to Sunday school with some friends she had made. Then there was a loud boom. A bomb had gone off at the church. Joey ended up being safe because she had followed Kenny home. Wilona and Daniel decided not to leave Byron in Alabama. When they went home Kenny decided to give his dinosaurs to Rufus and Cody (Rufus's little brother). The Watsons lived there lives like they had before they went to Birmingham. The bombs going off at church made them rethink about there lives and feel good that they had everyone still in their family. I thought that this book was really a good book and I would reccomend it to anyone.

The book Watsons go to Birmingham 1963 is the coolest book ever.I don`t know anyone who dosen`t like this book.I love this book,it`s soooo funny,except the true part that was sooo sad.My favorite charactor is Byron he`s very funny.I love the part when Byron got his lips stuck on the window of the brown bomber.And dad was making fun of him.When I get a chance I`ll buy the book becauce it is awesome.

The Various Elements
While I must agree with some of the other people here who said that the main plotline of whether Sam and David were going to have sex or not was boring, there was more to the book than just that.In particular, I had a soft spot for Harold and Lucy's budding relationship, as well as the plotline of Sam's job at the video store.Also interesting to me was the 'slut' plotline, since I have personally witnessed such hypocritical behaviour at my own high school.While the end scene of everybody calling themselves sluts was a bit unbelieveable I must admit that I did give an inner scream of joy when Harold went up to join the girls.

Fun with reading and movement
This was a great incorporation of words and movement, I read itto my 3.5 year old and he loves it,but I also think older children will have fun acting like each animal.

We love this book!
My daughter is only 20 months old now, but we began reading this book to her at about 14 months.She has learned the names of fruits in spanish and how to count to 5 within a couple of weeks of beginning to read it.It is one of her favorite books along with "Oso pardo, Oso pardo...".This is one of the required books for a spanish class that she will be beginning when she turns 2.As a spanish speaker it is a really easy book for me to read with fun pictures that my daughter enjoys. Even now she loves to put her fingers in the holes to count the fruit.For parents/caregivers who are not quite as experienced in reading spanish, it may be a little difficult to pronounce some of the words, but with some help you should be able to read the words effortlessly after a few times.My parents and in-laws don't speak much english and they love reading these spanish books to their granddaughter.It's a great way for them to bond.

Spanish version of a classic!
This Spanish version of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" is just as cute as the English version.Children will love the pages of varying sizes with holes where the caterpillar has eaten up the food.

a great book out of a great series - a review by Eli (age 7)
This book is really out of this world.I have been hooked on the magic school bus series.I can't wait to read more books in the series.The inside the human body book is full with very interesting facts and I learned so much from reading it.Arnold doesn't know where the bus is and is trying to find it.He doesn't even know that it is actually inside him.Then Arnold sneezes and finds the bus right next to him.He doesn't understand how he didn't see it before.

Ms. Frizzle is taking her class on a memorable field trip through the human body in this entertaining book featuring the beloved eccentric teacher and her curious class.My only complaint is that the pages are so busy with information that it's impossible to sit and really read the whole book, but perhaps it's best to let a child's curiosity guide you through a number of readings rather than trying to get everything in at one sitting.Concepts are expressed clearly and with humor.Justly popular with young students.

The Eternity Code
John Spiro, a very wealthy and successful business man, and Artemis Fowl, a boy genius who is trying to keep the Fowl wealth up, meet in a seafood restaurant because Artemis has called with a proposition. Artemis and Butler, his manservant, are waiting at the restaurant when Spiro and his bodyguard, Arno Blunt, arrive. Artemis had created a cube that was a micro T.V., verbally controlled computer, mobile phone, and a diagnostic aid. Artemis won't sell the C cube to Spiro, but will keep it off the market for a year if Spiro will pay him. Spiro doesn't want to pay, steals the C cube, and abruptly leaves. Arno and the restaurant "staff," hired by Spiro are left to fight Artemis and Butler. Artemis manages to escape, but Butler is badly wounded with a bullet shot half an inch below his heart. Artemis must figure out a way to get help to Butler. The People, underground fairies and elves, play a part in restoring Butler back to life. He's alive, but a lot different.

In the third installment of the Artemis Fowl series the boy wonder decides to do one last "business" deal because he thinks that the recovery of his father and his new outlook on life will soon prevent him from committing his scandalous heists. He takes the stolen fairy technology he got from his first encounter with the fairy people and makes a computer that is decades ahead of what is currently on the human market. He proposes a deal with a very powerful business owner named John Spiro. The deal was that Artemis would allow Johnny boy to buy some shares of the soon to be opened Fowl Enterprises but John wants that box of cash for himself. A gun battle occurs and John runs out with the cube and in the process john's bodyguard gives Butler a fatal wound. After some quick thinking on Artemis' part he is able to save his dear friend's life. He then plots revenge against Mr. Spiro with the help of some very familiar friends from the fairy community. This book is kind of intriguing. There is some good plot development and the dialogue was top notch. There is a lot of character development in this book and this series as well. There are some things that concern me however. The book is too easy, sure there may be two hundred some pages but a child could read it in a day max. Some places were kind of repetitive and had the same thinks in the previous editions. This book I consider is one of his good ones. There are some that I have to say need some work. I personally like his writing style. It has this directness to it that doesn't wander so much even though that might be a deterining factor as to the length on the boo
