2-0 out of 5 stars Great Book but Rips Apart QUICKLY- NOT DESIGNED FOR TODDLERS!
My Son loves these books. However, the flaps rip off very easily. He really misses these books! Without a lot of effort or very aggressive "lifting", these flaps on several of Karen Katz's books ripped right off.
4-0 out of 5 stars Flap books always a favorite
The children seemed to enjoy the reading of this book. They were especially taken by finding the surprises under each flap. If there were one detail I might change would be to make the word under the flap more easily visible without having to fold the flap all the way back. It doesn't lay flat again after that.We read the book again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Toes, Ears & Nose
My grandson absolutely loves this book.He sits quietly for this book and doesn't for others that are not interactive. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars We Like Toes, Ears, and Nose Better
These two books - Where Is Baby's Belly Button and Toes, Ears, and Nose are so similar, you only need one of them. And my boys prefer Toes, Ears, and Nose. I'm not sure why, but maybe it's because more body parts are discussed.

5-0 out of 5 stars cute book
My two year old son likes this book, but it would be even better for a younger child. It will be passed down to his baby brother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loads of Fun for Toddlers!
My 16 month old daughter is not overly excited by most books and loses intrest quickly, but she loves this book and can play with it for an hour. She loves to bring it to us to read with her, and she loves lifting the flaps and she giggles at her accomlishment of showing us where "baby's belly button/eyes/hands etc" are.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not Age Appropriate
I bought this book for my four-year old.The age recommendation is four to eight. The text is entirely too graphic and detailed for children of this age.Parts of the book read like KISS lyrics or soft-porn.While this book is factually accurate and contains anatomically correct pictures, it is NOT age-appropriate.

5-0 out of 5 stars This was how I learned "the facts of life" :)
I remember thinking this was a great book when I was a little kid. I agree with the reviewer who said that it's most appropriate for small children; I was probably 5 or 6 when my mom gave it to me. I remember it being very cute, and not the least bit distasteful. Half of my family works as delivery room nurses, so I was asking lots of questions early on! I know folks whose parents were so embarrassed about giving "the talk" that they learned everything from kids on the school bus, etc. This book is a great way of presenting information in a way young children can understand, without having to lie to them or change the subject.

3-0 out of 5 stars Pictures are a little much...
Other than the picture of mommy and daddy in the bath tub together, I think this is a pretty good book.It puts this part of life in todler terms. If you are easily offended by graphics, don't buy this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Potty Training Book
My daughter wanted me to read this over and over again. She was amazed and eager to learn. It really helped in our potty training experience and she was easily able to not be afraid about bm's in the toilet anymore. Before the book, she was very frighted of her poop.

5-0 out of 5 stars An entralling read
If you don't like this book, get a sense of humor. If you like it, thanks for being open minded. It's a very immature book, but it's funny and let's children know that pooping is natural and that everyone does it. Elephants poop just as humans do, but in different quantities. I had this book when I was very young and loved it just as a farce. It's a cute book, but don't hope for a plot because it's merely a summery of animals that poop.
5-0 out of 5 stars ...Because Poop Happens
If you have read any of my other reviews you will see that I am a pretty open guy. I love metaphysics and all things spiritual, but one thing that I have definitely learned while here in this world of form is that poop definitely happens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous introduction to "Birds and Bees"
I purchased this book after sitting cross-legged on the floor at a major bookstore with a whole slew of books on the subject.I picked this one for a number of reasons including the fact that it discusses different types of families -- this was a huge issue to me because my daughter was adopted as an "older child".
3-0 out of 5 stars A Book with an AGENDA
Well, it is an okay book, if you tear out pages 31 & 32 (which explain and illustrate homosexual relationships). These two pages are completely inappropriate and unnecessary. Also, be forewarned that on page 42, the writer states that abortion is just a "medical way to end a pregnancy".She makes it sound like a safe, natural and healthy alternative to family planning. It is so obvious that the writer is pushing her liberal "agenda" on our innocent children. What a shame. If you do not share her personal views, stay away from this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE WORDS ...................
Oh My Gosh.I LOVE THIS BOOK.MY SON.........LOVES THIS BOOK.I thought it would be a good ice breaker to open communication about sex. Although I have started talking to him about sex, it was still an uncomfortable topic for the both of us.Trying to master the clinical side of things as well as the human /real side of things. Not giving too much at a time but trying to make sure he gets what he needs. It is a stressful balance.

5-0 out of 5 stars a great book out of a great series - a review by Eli (age 7)
This book is really out of this world.I have been hooked on the magic school bus series.I can't wait to read more books in the series. The inside the human body book is full with very interesting facts and I learned so much from reading it.Arnold doesn't know where the bus is and is trying to find it.He doesn't even know that it is actually inside him. Then Arnold sneezes and finds the bus right next to him.He doesn't understand how he didn't see it before.

5-0 out of 5 stars packed with information
Ms. Frizzle is taking her class on a memorable field trip through the human body in this entertaining book featuring the beloved eccentric teacher and her curious class. My only complaint is that the pages are so busy with information that it's impossible to sit and really read the whole book, but perhaps it's best to let a child's curiosity guide you through a number of readings rather than trying to get everything in at one sitting.Concepts are expressed clearly and with humor.Justly popular with young students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fifth Food Group: Magic School Buses
Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen outdo themselves in "The Magic School Bus: Inside the Human Body."It is their most ambitious collaboration yet, and it definitely doesn't disappoint.Read more

No pun intended, BUT I have a problem with the word fart.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Addition...
I bought this book for my daughter & we really enjoyed reading it.It was so funny that I had to share it with my sister & her baby boy.Clearly, she loved the book just as much as we did because she never returned it!So, now I have to buy it again, because it is a great addition for any child's library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious!
This book is the funniest book ever!It also happens to be a great way of explaining the very human function of gas in a nice, simple way (which makes it great for kids).I have to admit, I buy it for my adult friends (who happen to have kids) and they get a huge kick out of it.Everyone Poops is a good one too, but this one is a classic. ... After going through several books with this topic, I found one that discusses the issues important to a pre-teen without being graphic, immoral and too informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
I purchased this book for my twin 10-year-old son's (who will be starting 5th grade in August) to read. They had started to ask me questions about different things they had heard at school from their friends, etc., and I decided to look for books they could read that would give them some correct, age appropriate information.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby can't get enough
My 10 month old son loves these books so much.If he sees them he lights up and crawls over very quickly. He especially loves where is Baby's Mommy. He flips the flaps on the pages and giggles at times and he never gets sick of it.It can even bring him out of a bad mood, even if only when reading the books. He thinks he is a big boy because he flips pages and flaps and he thinks he makes things happen that way.Two big thumbs up.

3-0 out of 5 stars Gender and race
While I do like the story of these books, and my 1 year old daughter seems to enjoy the lifting the flaps task, the gender roles are pretty iron clad in these books (Mommy is dowdy and PTA-ish, Grandma bakes cookies and has low set wire rimmed glasses, Daddy is building a dog house). Also, very few nonwhite characters, excepting the belly button book. Also, my daughter was able to rip off the flaps of several pages.Just OK, I think.

4-0 out of 5 stars Baby's favorite books!
My 18 month old daughter loves these books! She loves naming the body parts and then showing us hers! She also loves looking for baby's mommy.I'll ask, "Is mommy in the closet?" and she will shout, "No, no, no!"It's so cute!I would give the books 5 stars, but sometimes they rip.As soon as we opened Toes, Ears, Nose she ripped one of the flaps. So, you need to supervise little ones with these books, but they are a big hit! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Human Research
This book tells you all about the human body.It has lots of pictures and a model of the whole body.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great fun with great learning
Since my daughter turned about 3--and now show is 5 and a half--she and I have enjoyed this book time and again each time we visit it. It generally sits in her bookshelf for a month or three, but I've seen come out during several of her playdates. If you use this book casually, every once in a while, your child will definitely learn human anatomy over time. So too, often, will the adult.
5-0 out of 5 stars fun for all ages

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great Bob Barner book
I picked up this book for almost three year old daughter because we loved Bob Barner's Fish Wish.My daughter learned so much about the ocean from that book and I thought Dem Bones would give her an introduction to the body. The book follows an old African folk song called Dem Bones."The ankle bone is conneced to the foot bone, the foot bone is connected to the leg bone" and so on.Since my daughter is so young I just sing the song to her and point out the bones on her body as we see the corresponding ones on the skeletons in the book.If you have an older child there is much more in depth information about the bones provided on each page. That is why I love Bob barner's books so much.My daughter can follow along the simple to read stories now and when she gets older I can go over the more informative parts with her later. She has already learned a great deal from this book and she really loves it.Bob Barner really makes learning fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dem Bones
As an elementary school librarian, I used this book with my classes. We sang the song as we turned the pages. Then, at the end we laughed about the names of the bones and practiced ways of using the "real" names.1)Go to the nurse after you skinned your knee on the playground and ask for a bandaid to put on your patella; 2) You stub your toe and grab it and moan, "Oh, I stubbed my phlanges", etc.5-0 out of 5 stars We love this book!
This book offers a wonderful introduction to the bone structure of the human body, even for very young children (my 3 year old daughter and niece just love this book). The use of fun, bright skeletons appeals to the reader and balances the use of scientific language in the text.Even mom and dad will learn a thing or two while reading it!You'll have your kids singing Dem Bones (the foot bone connected to the ankle bone, etc.) before you know it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Reluctant Readers
How can a 10-year-old NOT read the pages on boogers or poop? Meanwhile, the writing is clear and the essays even teach you a bit of science. Fun book, highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars boys love gross stuff
My 4th grader is nuts about this book, as it has an impressive array of information on his favorite subjects: Barf, boogers, farts, body odor, burping, ear wax, bad breath and the other bodily functions that boys can't seem to get enough of. This gives them a chance to learn the science behind these, while they laugh hysterically at the illustrrations and comments. He really did learn alot and sounds like a junior medical student accurately explaing why he just made that tooting sound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very enGROSSing
I bought this book along with the companion "Grossology and You".I didn't have to remind my 10-year-old son to do his nightly reading for weeks! The subjects are all things that boys find oddly entertaining, ie., snot, fatulence, diarrhea, etc. Each article has the facts of how and why these natural processes occur along with more "colorful" excerpts (ie., the diarrhea song) that kids love. This is a great way to entice young boys to get interested in biology and reading. After my son finished reading the book, he pointed out the others in the series and asked if I would get them as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Straightforward, engaging introduction to the 5 senses
My 5 year old son absolutely adores this book.He asks me to read it repeatedly, and has fun pointing out when he's using his senses just like the (adorably illustrated) child in Aliki's book does. It's a lively, fun introduction to an important scientific concept.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not to be confused with Aliki's "My Five Senses"
Margaret Miller's book is a simple introduction to the five senses which young children can easily understand and relate to. I use it in teaching the concept of the five sensesto my English as a Second Language kindergarten students. Miller presents each sense with the related body parts, which makes it easier for children to understand the sometimes complicated idea of what a "sense" is.For example, "With my eyes, I see..." and then she gives examples. The book is illustrated with Miller's photos of children of different ethnicities, and the items they are seeing, smelling, etc are relevant to most children's experience. My students used this book as a starting point to make their own books about the five senses. As a teacher, I recommend this book to anyone looking for a way to introduce some science content to little ones.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Five Senses
Appealing pictures accompany a straight forward text. "Sometimes I use all my senses at once...When I laugh and play with my puppy, I use four senses. I see, hear, smell and touch...each sense is very important to me because it makes me aware. To be aware is to see all there is to see...hear all there is to hear...[etc]." I like the progression from simple statements to more complex ideas, especially the use of the word 'aware'.How many early readers are aware of the word 'aware' and connect it to their senses? After reading this book, they all will! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Grand Finale
In 1986, author Joanna Cole and illustrator Bruce Degen published their first book together. It was a story about a funky-cool teacher with frizzy-red hair, who led her class on the most extraordinary, in-depth, and out-of-this-world field trips like no instructor before her.The adventures of Ms. Frizzle and her students quickly became a hit with real-life children, parents and teachers alike. No one could have predicted the success that awaited Cole and Degen once "The Magic School Bus: At the Waterworks" hit the shelves.

My science-loving eight-year-old son really enjoys reading books from the Magic School Bus series, and the topic and plot line of this one engaged him as well. But early into the book, he was asking me about nearly every other word. When I looked more carefully, I realized the reading level was higher than other books he had read in the series and many of the facts were things I had learned in junior high.I decided to take over, reading the book to him and explaining many of the topics in more detail.Don't get me wrong -- he really enjoyed the book and learned some "cool" new things about the senses. It just wouldn't have made much sense without my involvement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Science
This book is based on the television show the magic school bus, with Mrs. Frizzle. The book contains great factual illustrations for the reader. The students of Mrs. Frizzle's class are learning about the senses so they get into their magic school bus and shrink down, and go into a students nose and from there they continue to the other sensory organs.I like the format of this book because it is very active instead of reading from a textbook the children can get the same information but have fun while they are learning. I also like hands on activities and this is as close as hands on with a book as you can get.It also gives small science experiments and reports that the class has written for the child to read. The author has such great imagination and brings the fun back into learning science. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, bright, and fun!
There are actual complete sentences in this book in both English and Spanish (not true of a lot of board books), which is perfect for this age and level range. This will be a great addition to Flip Flop Spanish workbook (level 2, not released yet) to help review or even introduce body parts.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for curious young minds!
My niece has lots of questions about lots of things (3 yrs.old) and it is a continuous challenge to occupy her active mind. This book was a great find for her. She has a new bilinqual friend at pre-school and is excited about learning to talk the way her friend can talk! As these kids have a growing awareness about their bodies and many other things, it is great to find books like this that teach and expand a child's world awareness. Lots of fun and highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great teaching tool!
One of the main reasons I got this book was because of how easy it made the information to learn for kids. This book is filled with fun illustrations labeled in english and spanish. Each page also has two sentences, one in each language, which use the featured part of the body in a sentence. I would definitely recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye opener of a story
I really feel for Phineas Gage after reading his story--and I am completely amazed at how he survived his accident. The book, is geared towards scientificly curious children for the most part, large illustrations and explanations of various things. How medicine has change since Gage's time, etc.The photos are great and the book is very engaging, though I wouldn't reccomend it for the squeamish as it does describe the poor man's accident in detail.I can only wish to myself though that they had done one of those facial reconstructions from the skull and life mask, so we could see what he might have looked like as a person.

4-0 out of 5 stars Tyler H
Im Tyler Haigh and this is a book a read. I recommend this book because it is a good book on brains and a fun book to read, but i dont recommend it to people that dont like blood or get grossed out easy.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This is a great book for adults and kids alike.I bought this for my 9 year old daughter because she was doing a project about the brain. It is written for older elementary age kids, but it is interesting enough for adults too.I could not put the book down! This is a great way to introduce kids to the science of the brain through the true story of a man who survived a terrible accident.Highly recommended! ... Read more
