If It's Cronin, It HAS To Be Five Stars!
In our library, we can't keep her books on the shelves, and the once-again winning combination of her words with Betsy Lewin's pictures just cannot be beat.Our small patrons love her books on one level, while their parents are getting a kick out of them on a totally different one.I always appreciate authors who understand that they have two audiences, after all, and Ms. Cronin feeds both appetites.The clever, gentle humor of this book will be welcomed by discerning parents, and by the end, I am sure of two things: Farmer Brown will never catch on, and I will never hear "Born To Be Wild" again without thinking of the beloved Duck.

Better than its predecessors!
I didn't think life got any better than Click Clack Moo, but Dooby Dooby Moo tops it. I love it! Dooby Dooby Moo is one of those rare books that holds enjoyment for kids and adults alike. Kids like the story of the talent show and each animal's attempts to win, while parents get to laugh their heads off at the pig's interpretive dance. It's a great read-aloud book because the adult can sing along (very easy tunes we all know) and kids love that part. A must have for storytime before bed
We started reading this book to my daughter at about 6-8 months old. She's now 2 and STILL loves the book. It's one of her favorites.

We love this book.
We love this book. My 20 month old daughter and I. We read it every night. It is the last book we read before nursing. It has nice ryhmes and the illustrations are beautiful too. Much nicer than any of the other going to sleep books. I highly recommend this book for small children to add to your nighttime ritual.

simple and fun
Caps for Sale is a delightful tale that is simple but with the right amount of absurdity that kids love.The repetition of words and the copycat element (when the monkeys imitate the peddler's actions)is entertaining for very young children.

Funner than I even remembered!
In searching reviews to find great books, I struggled to remember if I liked this one as a kid!I remembered the cover, but not the story!When it came, I was delighted to find that I loved the story, and my son has a NEW favorite book!He grins ear to ear as soon as the peddler wakes up from his nap and discovers only one hat left on his head.My 20 month olddoesn't sit still from that point on in the story.He crouches so as to make monkey gestures and sounds.He wags his finger and says "tsk tsk tsk" just like the monkeys!He stomps his feet and waves his arms just like the monkeys!The monkeys are so mischievous, and I think my son relates! LOL!All in all, the little copycat monkeys throw their hats down to the peddler when he gets angry enough at their taunting to throw his hat down on the ground!It is very cute.There isn't variety in the illustrations as the same vintage colors are used on every page, but the story is so strong that I have to give this one 5 stars!Enjoy!I still do!

"Caps for Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina is a marvelous children's book. An ingenious plot that I remember from my childhood. Now I am enjoying it again with my children. I was always fascinated by how he balanced those hats. The illustrations are quite simple but intriguing. Just looking at Pezzo with all those hats piled one on top of another is more interesting than many of the high tech special effects I have seen in today's movies. Sometimes the simple way is the best.

My son loves this book before bed!Very cute, rhyming passages. Also have "Going to Bed Book" by this author and we love both!!

Best Boynton Book
We've checked out a number of Boynton books from our library, and Pajama Time is the first one my daughter has really loved.She just turned two, and she is always asking for "Jammie Time" to be read to her, especially when we are getting her ready for bed.I like how the book can be sung, which always brings a smile to my daughter's face.The pictures and words are silly and seem to be very appealing to toddlers.

A family favorite for years
We love this book so much that we buy it for all our friends and family that have babies.It is the perfect rocking chair companion.We love the sing-song rhyming of the story, and we read it so much to our children (5 & 6) that we still remember all the words.

Quick, easy reading BOARD book.
This sneaky gorilla steals the zookeepers keys. As the keeper says goodnight to all the animals, the gorilla is behind him (with his pet mouse who is dragging his banana for him) letting out all the animals so they can spend the night in the house of the keeper. Cute, colorful illustrations. Repetition of words and known animals allows this book to be an easy reader.

Amazing!
We have recieved this book as a gift, but had to buy it too, because my baby have been reading it too much! The book was "torn" to separate pages, because she wouldn't go to sleep, in the car or even eat without it. The pictures are great! And it is hard book, so my girl also tried her teeth on it!

A great gorilla!
When my son was born, two of our friends independently decided that the best way to buy him a baby gift was to take their young daughters to a book store and let them choose books they thought he would like.This was the only one they both selected.Our son is still in the "I licked the corner and it was good" stage of book appreciation, but I've enjoyed reading it to him.The pictures are colorful and interesting, with lots to point out to a small child.And the storyline is surprisingly gentle, with the gorilla leading a parade of zoo animals to the zookeeper's home where they all curl up around his bedroom for sleep.It's easy to see how this one made it onto the favorites list. ... Absolutely Splendid
The 23 original tales by Beatrix Potter comes in a sturdy presentation box. All 23 tales are of the original art work and are beautifully made. Greatest kids book in our house
This book was a gift and has quickly become a favorite, my favorite. It has beautiful illistrations, some rhyming and lots of imagery. I have given this book as a gift to everyone having a baby!

My son and my favorite book
I bought this book when my son was 11 months old.The cadence of the whole book is wonderful.I've read it slow and I've read it so fast I can't keep up with myself turning the pages.It was quickly a favorite of mine, and when my son was old enough he would get this book from his 'library' and hand it to me.Even now (he's 8) we love this book.He reads it to me.And I love to ask "faster, faster" like he would do when I was reading to him.This spring we planted a strawberry pyramid and 3 blueberry bushes.It was funny that I didn't think of this book when my son said he wanted to plant these.But it makes perfect sense now.This will be a book that is handed down to his children and bought for his nieces and nephews I'm sure.The board book format is so excellent, the book is still in fabulous shape. ... Popper's Is Easy reading
Mr. Popper's Penguins is an easy read for a twelve-year old boy, and I found it enjoyable. It wasn't necessarily suspenseful, but each chapter ended with a problem that needed to be solved. This book would be great to use for a book report.The characters in the story are well developed and can be compared and contrasted.It would also be a great read-aloud for little children because of the silliness in it.

Timeless classic
I loved this book when my second grade teacher read it to us over 43 years ago.My second graders love it today.There are so many extras to learn with the actual story - what life was like before television, when people traveled by train, when people went to see newsreels, when people saw trained animal acts at the theater...And they love all the funny things that happen to poor Mr. Popper and his family.They learned about Antarctica and the explorers like Admiral Drake and Captain Cook.They wrote about how they thought the story would end.Then they wrote letters back home but I don't want to give any more away.You'll fall for these lovable penguins and their family too!

Goodnight Moon in Spanish
As an NY born of Dominican decent, I love reading this book to my little one.My 20 month old daughter loves this book. We have both the English and Spanish versions of the book.Often times she brings her Dad or me both books to read to her.We start with one gets tired of it mid-way and then she wants us to pick up where we left off in the other language.It doesn't really matter to her which language we start/end with.We change it up all the time.I agree with some other reviewers that the translation is not exact, but the flow is very good with the changes that were made.I especially like "la viejecita que teje muy calladita" instead of "a quiet old lady who was whispering 'hush'," especially since I knit and my daughter can relate to that.Because of this book she has begun to comfortably alternate luna/moon and star/estrella.I think it's really important for my little girl to learn both Spanish and, obviously, English and this book makes it that much easier to accomplish.

Our family does not speak Spanish.However my son is currently taking Spanish 5 in high school.He believes learning a foreign language is important and wants to teach his new niece.He is looking forward to reading it to her!

Book for kids that parents will love too
This is one of the best pre-k early reader books ever!What makes this a great book is it has humor that mom and dad can appreciate too, which is great since they'll be reading it over and over again!The art and vocabulary are simple but very effective in communicating the emotions of our hero the pigeon.This is a must have in every child's library.

A Classic!
This book, in the tradition of McCloskey's "Make Way For Ducklings" or Sendak's "Where the Wild Things Are," is set to become a classic.The story is sweet and the illustrations are brilliant.Every page can be studied [by old and young alike] and enjoyed: the illustrations are full of humor and drama that enhances the storyline, as is so typical of the talented Kevin Hawkes.I highly recommend this books for any grandparent or parent who enjoys reading--and discovering--with their child.And it goes without saying that this book is a must-have for every library in the country!

Every library should have this book
Absolutely beautiful.The illustrations are wonderful,the story is original and draws you in from the very first page.A lion wanders into the library and from the start the librarian at the desk(Mr. McBee) is to put it mildly quite upset.He runs to the head librarian(Miss Merriweather) to inform her of this turn of events.Her response is that as long as he isn't breaking any rules he can stay.This totally dismays Mr McBee but what can he do, she's the boss.The lion wanders over to story hour and he loves it. When the story hour is over he wants the lady to continue reading.When she doesn't, he lets out a roar.This of course brings Miss Merriweather,who tells him if he does that again he can no longer come to the library.So everyday the lion comes to the library(he loves the story hour) and he slowly becomes a welcomed, helpful, much loved by everyone but Mr McBee visitor.One day he is helping Miss Merriweather and she gets hurt(not by the lion).The lion runs to get Mr McBee, but of course because of the way he feels about the lion, he ignores him.The lion has no choice but to roar to get Mr McBee to go to Miss Merriweather.Mr McBee of course runs to her, to tell on the lion because he wants him kicked out of the library.The lion leaves the library on his own before anyone finds out why he roared.He knows he has broken the rules. All turns out well in the end though. This is one of the best book purchases I have made this year. I highly recommend this one to any one who appreciates a truely beautiful childrens book.The child who is lucky enough to have this read to him will be enchanted and probably will want to go to the library to see if there is a lion.

Surely among the most lovable of all Dr. Seuss creations, Horton the Elephant represents kindness, trustworthiness, and perseverance--all wrapped up, thank goodness, in a comical and even absurd package. Horton hears a cry for help from a speck of dust, and spends much of the book trying to protect the infinitesimal creatures who live on it from the derision and trickery of other animals, who think their elephant friend has gone quite nutty. But worse is in store: an eagle carries away the clover in which Horton has placed the life-bearing speck, and "let that small clover drop somewhere inside / of a great patch of clovers a hundred miles wide!" Horton wins in the end, after persuading the "Who's" to make as much noise as possible and prove their existence. This classic is not only fun, but a great way to introduce thoughtful children to essentially philosophical questions.How, after all, are we so sure there aren't invisible civilizations floating by on every mote? Our son received this book when he was 1 and started loving this book then.It's better than Dr. Suess.HE LOVES IT!

Great First Reader
The words are basic and simple so they are easily accessible to the early reader.And, of course, kids have always liked the drawings in this book.This was a favorite of mine as a child and it is one of the first books my son read on his own.He now enjoys reading it to his brothers.

Toching Spirit Bear, and Me
Cole has many problems. His dad beats him, his mom says nothing about it, so his anger towards his parents is taken out on the world, and specifically at a schoolmate, Peter. Peter tells on Cole, so Cole smashes his head into the sidewalk, causing severe damage both emotional and physical. When Cole is put into a detention center, Garvey, a man working at the detention center, tells Cole about a Tlingit Indian justice ritual called Circle Justice. Cole will do anything to get of prison. He agrees to his terms and is sentenced to a year of banishment on an island off the coast of Alaska. There he encounters a Spirit Bear. After almost being killed by it, Cole is left thinking about his life, his choices, and the healing ramifications of Circle Justice.

I'm in sixth grade and this was the best book I have ever read. I read it twice over the summer and I am getting readey to read it again for my book report. My kids love this book
I have a 3 year old and 5 year old who love the books of Mo Willems. Recently the 5 year old took this book to school as his 'show and tell' in order to read it to his class. It was a huge success! We started our Mo Willems collection with 'Don't let the Pidgeon drive the Bus', we've added 'the Pidgeon finds a Hotdog' and 'Don't let the Pidgeon stay up late' and just recently added this book and 'the pidgeon has feeling too'. I love these books because my kids love them and that encourages them to keep reading! Well done Mo Willems.

Love it!
Our first Mo Willems book was Knuffle Bunny and we were hooked. We've sinced bought 4 more of his books including The Pigeon Loves Things That Go! They're all great. Our kids love them and for kids books they're pretty darn amusing for adults too. Good stuff!

There are about 100,000 kinds of insects in North America, so obviously they can't have a field guide in the same way the 650 species of birds do: something both portable and complete. The National Audubon Society has produced a remarkably useful compromise. This guide has photographs and descriptions of 550 insect species and 60 kinds of spiders. Most of the families of arthropods on the continent are covered, as are all of the most common species. It's a very useful resource for any North American naturalist, and the best choice for an adult who is not an expert entomologist. Read more

Great Guide
This Is a field guide and it is a good one, you may not be able to ID what you are looking at but you can narrow it down for further research. I use this with two other books one on spiders and one on dragonflys and have been able to ID everthing pretty easyly

Fantastic For A "Guide"
I bought this book because I am a photographer with a growing interest in spiders and insects, and I need to know what my subjects are.Before I bought this book, I mostly did Internet research to try to find the exact species.Since I'm not an entomologist or arachnologist, I'm sure you can imagine that my search words often weren't very effective (for example, brown spider in California).Now that I have this book, IDing spiders and insects is much easier.I'm not saying that everything I take a picture of is in here; in fact, the exact species often aren't.But most of the time I can narrow it down to the point where further research is much more successful.This book also explains the correct terminology, which is extremely helpful when searching online or in other books.I know a lot of people out there are disappointed because this book is missing so many species.But honestly, they should have known better than to expect a small FIELD GUIDE to contain so much.If you're looking for a complete encyclopedia of insects or spiders, this book will very disappointing.But if you're looking for a GUIDE (i.e., you're an amateur and you just need to be pointed in the right direction), then you should find this book extremely helpful.

I found this book to be overly broad, which should not have surprised me, given the subject.
