Despereaux is a fun book.
I would recommend this book, The Tale of Despereaux, by Kate DiCamillo for animal lovers and lovers of fantasy. Despereaux, a mouse, is born in the medieval times.A rat named Roscuro captures the princess and the brave mouse Despereaux goes to save her. The book is about bravery no matter how small you are.

Full fathom five thy father lies
I suppose that there must be some people in world for whom the name "David Wiesner" means nothing. I can't fathom what this kind of an existence must be like. I suppose it would be the literary equivalent of not knowing what chocolate was. Or snow. The minute the new Wiesner book comes out I, like hundreds of thousands of others like me, rush out to purchase it for friends, relatives, and passing acquaintances I met once in the grocery store. Little wonder that the man has won two Caldecott Medals AND two Caldecott Honors. Now one of those numbers is about to change since Wiesner has produced his most ambitious creation to date. Wordless (as always) and more intense than his light-hearted "Tuesday" and "Sector 7" ever were, this is a book overflowing in deep-water mysteries and delights.

We love it!!!!
This is the best Walter book yet!I had a hard time reading it aloud the first time because I was laughing so hard that I was crying!My sons, 10 and 6, were rolling on the floor giggling.That's my kind of storytime.....

Is this a Scratch and Sniff Book?
What a crass topic - I didn't think it was possbile to write and publish such a stupid book. How many IQ points do you lose if read the book? Read the others in the series? Actually waste your money on something like this?

One Star for Intriguing Art
I like the imaginative artwork. That said, why does everything under the sun have to be discussed/applauded? I agree with the previous review in that the world was a better place when there were concepts such as discretion, privacy, decorum, taste other than poor, etc. The world has LOST something. Warriors of the Dawn
If you havn't read the series this book may be confusing. It is a very good book. The characters were mazing. There were five cats that walked all the way to the sun drown place. Feathertail dies but she saved all of the other cats. When they get back with thier Clan Squirrelpaw was told that her sister was captured by the two-legs. Squirrelpaw ended up saving her and a bunch of other cats. Graystripe was caught in the process of the rescue. Near the middle of the book the two-legs drive the cats out of the forrest. They head for the mountians to get to thier new home on the other side. In the mountians they find the tribe cats who helped save the kits. They stay with the tribe cats to regain thier strength an move on. I loved this book, it was amazing. If you like cats you will love this book.

Me and my friend Blackeye,a ShadowClan warrior, were thrilled when we found out that Firestar and Sandstorm had kits, so it's nice to get both Leafpaw's and Squirrelpaw's point of view!

Give a Dog a Home!
What a lovely way to teach children `tis better to give than receive.' With few words and no rhymes - except for the author/illustrator's name, of course, and delightful black/white/aqua pictures of Claude the Basset and his homeless friend Bummer, all ages can delight in the spirit of kindness and compassion at Christmastime. But am I the only one bummed because Bummer didn't get a home for Christmas?

this was book really good. i liked that claude was really nice to bummer. he have him all of those gifts. what a nice dog. the author did a good job saying that it is better give than get. he used a good example also by useing dogs. overall this is one of the best children books there are. so if you want to read a good book read this one.

Sweet story
This is a wonderful story for any child who has ever felt left out.Leo is tiny and can't make his light shine.He is teased by the other lightning bugs.His mom tells him to keep trying and he'll succeed.After practicing over and over, he finally figures out how to light his light.The other bugs stop teasing him and he learns to laugh at himself, an important lesson for the younger child.I have a 6 year old and an 8 1/2 year old and they both love this story.The illustrations are wonderful.

My two nephews love this book & CD!
This lovely and lively story became an instant favorite of my two young nephews -- which is saying a lot considering that their bookshelf is well stocked!The CD that accompanies the book (making the price a real bargain) is no afterthought -- it is just as rich in detail and as well-produced as the book itself.And having a CD of the book comes in very handy when the boys are in the mood to hear the story AGAIN (and again and again and again...)

Oh, those pictures
I bought this for my five year old, and wish I bought it when she was a little younger. Despite the simple story line, she still likes to look at it, and I hope it's a book that will help her on the way to reading.

Great books for every child!!!
The books are great! This volume : The Going to Bed Book, But Not the Hippotamus, Opposites, Horns to Toes; I must say that I am going to get more of Sandra Byonton's books. The rhymes are short and simple but nice and I think this is important for infants as their attention span is pretty short. The illustrations are wonderful and kids won't go tired of them forever as they are cartoon characters. My 8 month old and 6 years old daughters to enjoy listening to the rhymes and looking at the pictures as I enjoy reading the books to them. Get these volume now.....

great for under two
I bought these books for my daughter and she just loves them. Plus, they're so easy for her to handle since they are board books. She loves to just sit in her chair and "read" them by herself too.

Boynton Books are Best
These books are great for the 0-3 age group. They have cute little animals that are likable and just look like they would be fun to know in person. The books are short with catchy rhymes. They are easy to read and easy to memorize. For those with a short attention span, like the active toddler age, these books are perfect.

Uh Huh Uh Huh Uh Huh (He's a yes man!)
We picked this book up with a CD of the author reading the story through school last year.My son loves it still 6 months later & I find it pretty amusing myself.We have had side discussions about time out, not drawing on the walls, how watching tv is a privilege, using your imagination, and how sassing your parents ("You're not the boss of me!") will get a child in trouble for sure.My son even took it to preschool last year to share with his class.Since it is about cats, I think young girls would be entertained as well.As a parent, I recommend this book particularly if you can get it with the read-along DVD.

Skippyjon Jone in the Dog House
It is as great as the first book my family loved the story. Again it is a book to have at home for children of all ages.

Skippyjon Jones in the Doghouse
My 6 year old daughter loves Skippy and we were both excited when we saw this, the second Skippyjon Jones book!The first book was fabulous!All of our family (dad, three daughters ranging in ages from 6-16, and myself) adored Skippy.The rhymes are fun to do and the book has a lot of energy, just like the first.Of course this book is similar to the first--it is a children's book and we bought it specifically because we liked the format of the first book.We are already anticipating the third book and will happily buy it when it comes out.Skippy is an extremely imaginative, high-energy, creative boy kitty who, like all little kids at one time or another, does naughty things.That doesn't make this a bad book, if anything, it should be a way to have a conversation with your young child about appropriate behavior.In the end, this was a fun, fast-paced fictional children's book that all three of my children laughed at and listened to when I read it--and that's saying something considering the older two are 11 and 16!!!! ... (young) Man V. Dinosaur (who bakes with aplomb)
It would take a human being with the sense of humor of a bowl of moldy tapioca not to find "Edwina: The Dinosaur Who Didn't Know She Was Extinct" one of the funniest picture books of the year.I mean, I resisted reviewing it.Mo Willems needs no introduction any longer.His misleadingly simple style is what it is, as it is, as it shall be evermore.Basically, he does not need my help promoting his books.That doesn't mean, though, that it's not fun to do.Now the man in question has tried his hand on the standard large-animal-who's-friends-with-kids genre.You can keep you Cliffords and your Dannys with their dinosaurs, though.Color me an Edwina fan through and through (and that goes double for her chocolate chip cookies).
Everybody loves Edwina...
Everybody in town loves Edwina, the dinosaur. And why wouldn't they? She's helpful and charming and winsome and makes great chocolate chip cookies. But smarty-pants Reginald von Hoobie-Doobie is very irritated that nobody -- least of all Edwina herself -- realizes that dinosaurs are extinct. And so he sets out to disprove Edwina's existence. While this book isn't as silly as the Pigeon series or Knuffle Bunny, "Edwina" is a solid read-aloud that will be enjoyed by children ages 4-6. And adults will appreciate the subtle humor in Willem's illustrations.

I love Mo Willems!
As always Willems is amazing!I haven't read a book of his yet that has dissapointed me, there is always humour and a certain degree of whimsy to his books.Here the story is about one boy who is determined to convince the rest of the world that their beloved Edwina the Dinosaur is supposed to be extinct.

Poor Horton. Dr. Seuss's kindly elephant is persuaded to sit on an egg while its mother, the good-for-nothing bird lazy Maysie, takes a break. Little does Horton know that Maysie is setting off for a permanent vacation in Palm Springs. Horton is Always a Good Choice
I grew up listening to this book on a record.These days, rhymes, like Mother Goose, are not taught in school or pre school like they once were.I teach ELL but even English speakers are having more difficulty with hearing rhymes which has a direct correlation to their phonemic awarness development.This is one of the major components of pre-reading readiness.Horton also is a good example of empathy and we certainly could use more of this in our public schools among the students!

HortonHatches The Egg
Hacton the Elephant and the egg and that lazy momma bird.Oh momma bird just waiting to tricksome animal into watching her egg .Then comes Mr,Elephant .Oh poor Mr.Elephant gets stuck sitting on a tree for months. This book is a real good book .I would give it a thumbs up.

One of the best of the Seuss books in my opinion
Horton Hatches the egg was one of my favourite books when I was a child and it is lovely to be able to read it to my children and it has become one of their favourite too. I certainly prefer this one to many of the Seuss books available (I have never been a huge fan of Cat in the hat or Green Eggs and Ham) This one has a hugely appealing story.

A lesser spinoff from "If You Give a Pig a Pancake", but my daughter still loves it!
Our first "If you give" book was the "Pancake" title. It was an instant hit with my daughter. We moved on to "Party". It is definitely good and entertaining, but it definitely reads and feels like a spinoff. Where "Pancake" flows out of a single gesture, "Party" feels forced, and just doesn't seem as funny and delightful. Plus, in this book, the pig somehow seems more demanding and selfish than in the Pancake book. Hard to explain unless you read it!
Livin High on the Hog?
Living high on the hog. This brings new meaning to those words and that's a good thing.It's not the "gimme gimme" attitude and materialistic lifestyle that makes this little piggy happy, oh no.It's just enjoying life by creating happiness in everything you do while remembering that sharing your heart with others doubles the fun!
...will put visions of celebration into each readers head, leaving everyone eager to have a party of their own!
Everyone knows that pigs can be a handful. Which is why it's probably never a good idea to throw a pig a party. For if you give a pig a party, she's bound to want balloons to accompany said party. And, once she's got balloons, she'll, of course, want to decorate the entire house. Then, once the decorating is done, she'll want to get all dolled up - in her favorite dress. And once she's done that, she's going to want to call all of her friends on the phone, and invite them over to celebrate. But if they're not home...well, she'll just have to go out and look for them. Which can only mean trouble.

Fun with reading and movement
This was a great incorporation of words and movement, I read itto my 3.5 year old and he loves it,but I also think older children will have fun acting like each animal.

Best book EVER!!!!!!!!!
This Book was awesome! I had a blast reading it. In no time, it was my favorite book of the five I've read so far. Maybe it was my favorite book of all the books I've read in my life! It was definatly a top book. I never expected for any book to be as great as this book was! I would be really surprised if any book was better than this one! I would reccomend this book to anyone who takes interest in awesome books.
The best of the first five!
Fireheart's life is in danger. A mysterious "pack" is roaming the forest,hurting and even killing cats. Also, Bluestar has given up on Starclan thinking they're abandoning Thunderclan. And Tigerclaw (now Tigerstar) Fireheart's enemy has become Shadowclan's leader!

Blackie, The Horse Who Stood Still
This title was purchased for my grand children yet it was my wife and myself who "entered" this special story before passing it on to our younger readers. Mr. Cerf's words reminded us of times past while Ms. Peterson's broad and colorful brush strokes brought life to each page.
Best Children's Book since Cat in the Hat
Truly an inspiration, the book incorporates a heartwarming narrative with a poignant message of environmental preservation .Congratulations to both the author and illustrator as "Blackie, The Horse Who Stood Still" is clearly the number 1 children's tale in recent memory as it recaptures the innocence and beauty of childhood.I highly recommend it to all ages as I know anyone who reads it will be as touched as I was.

Big Box of Boynton
Barnyard Dance! & Pajama Time! are a couple of our all time favorites. Excellent and fun!Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs is just OK in my opinion and that's why this group of books received a 4 star rating instead of 5 stars.

Barnyard is Best Boynton Book!
We (my one year old) daughter and I love the Barnyard Dance! She actually started liking the book when she was about 9 months. I borrowed it from the public library, thought it was the best Boynton book ever and asked for it for Christmas. The number two choice, in my opinion is "One, Two, Three."

Great Baby Books, Great Memories
We received Barnyard Dance! and Oh My Oh My Oh Dinosaurs! when our son was born.We started reading them to him before he could talk.There is a wonderful, enchanting way that Boynton uses words and drawings to create an exciting connection for young children.In addition, I will remember until the day I die the joy of my son pointing at words or characters as I read the text with enthusiastic expression.Six years later, our daughter was born and we renewed our connection with Boynton's books with the same heart-warming experience.These are simply great pre-reader books.Both my wife and I recommended them and we have given sets to friends who have also found them to be fun and joy-full. ... This Newbery honor book is the story of families of origin and families of creation. It is also a tale depicting the power of love and of story. Framed within the present in which Ben and Abby, brother and sister, spend time in their grandfather's barn listening to a tale told by the barn cat, Whittington, who is a descendant of the fabled Dick Whittington's cat. The novel "Whittington" moves between a re-telling of the medieval Whittington tale to two present day tales in which Ben is struggling to read and the animals are struggling for primacy in the barn.
