the original and best Curious George stories!
I dimly remember reading the "George" books years ago. When I saw this collection, I couldn't resist buying it for my daughter.
Favorite for many years
We have an older version of this same book.This book was a gift to our oldest son when he was 2.13 years later, this very well read book is again our 4th sons favorite book.I'm continually amazed at how much each of our children treasured this book.A must have for any family library.

simple and fun
Caps for Sale is a delightful tale that is simple but with the right amount of absurdity that kids love.The repetition of words and the copycat element (when the monkeys imitate the peddler's actions)is entertaining for very young children.

Funner than I even remembered!
In searching reviews to find great books, I struggled to remember if I liked this one as a kid!I remembered the cover, but not the story!When it came, I was delighted to find that I loved the story, and my son has a NEW favorite book!He grins ear to ear as soon as the peddler wakes up from his nap and discovers only one hat left on his head.My 20 month olddoesn't sit still from that point on in the story.He crouches so as to make monkey gestures and sounds.He wags his finger and says "tsk tsk tsk" just like the monkeys!He stomps his feet and waves his arms just like the monkeys!The monkeys are so mischievous, and I think my son relates! LOL!All in all, the little copycat monkeys throw their hats down to the peddler when he gets angry enough at their taunting to throw his hat down on the ground!It is very cute.There isn't variety in the illustrations as the same vintage colors are used on every page, but the story is so strong that I have to give this one 5 stars!Enjoy!I still do!

"Caps for Sale" by Esphyr Slobodkina is a marvelous children's book. An ingenious plot that I remember from my childhood. Now I am enjoying it again with my children. I was always fascinated by how he balanced those hats. The illustrations are quite simple but intriguing. Just looking at Pezzo with all those hats piled one on top of another is more interesting than many of the high tech special effects I have seen in today's movies. Sometimes the simple way is the best.

Quick, easy reading BOARD book.
This sneaky gorilla steals the zookeepers keys. As the keeper says goodnight to all the animals, the gorilla is behind him (with his pet mouse who is dragging his banana for him) letting out all the animals so they can spend the night in the house of the keeper. Cute, colorful illustrations. Repetition of words and known animals allows this book to be an easy reader.

Amazing!
We have recieved this book as a gift, but had to buy it too, because my baby have been reading it too much! The book was "torn" to separate pages, because she wouldn't go to sleep, in the car or even eat without it. The pictures are great! And it is hard book, so my girl also tried her teeth on it!

A great gorilla!
When my son was born, two of our friends independently decided that the best way to buy him a baby gift was to take their young daughters to a book store and let them choose books they thought he would like.This was the only one they both selected.Our son is still in the "I licked the corner and it was good" stage of book appreciation, but I've enjoyed reading it to him.The pictures are colorful and interesting, with lots to point out to a small child.And the storyline is surprisingly gentle, with the gorilla leading a parade of zoo animals to the zookeeper's home where they all curl up around his bedroom for sleep.It's easy to see how this one made it onto the favorites list. ... Baby-Friendly
Nice, sturdy books. Stories are concise for short attention spans. I can usually get through a whole book before my 4-month old gets antsy. She likes the pictures and turning the pages is easy for her since the books are so little.

Great Intro to George
I read these to my son since he was a baby and he loved them! These definitely interested him in the "real," full-length George books when he got older.

Classics for the very young
These books were purchased for a one year old and are very sturdy and will last for a long time.My grandchild is too busy to sit still for more than a few pages at a time, but these books are small enough for him to hold and point to the pictures and enjoy on his own.We read to him by naming the pictures, but the reading experience can never begin too young. ... How can you go wrong with Curious George?
I bought this book to use as favors for my children's birthday party.The party was taking their cousins/friends to see the movie Curious George.It's a very cute book and Curious George's curiousity doesn't get him in too much trouble.It shows all the things that the man in the yellow hat does to prepare for a surprise party for George.It's great to see my children (3 and 5) enjoying book characters that I enjoyed as a child.

Fun with a book-loving monkey
"Curious George Visits the Library" is, as the title page notes, "Illustrated in the Style of H.A. Rey" by Martha Weston.In this tale, George--"a good little monkey and always very curious"--visits the public library with his friend, the man in the yellow hat.Chaos ensues as George frolics through the library, but it all ends happily. Curious George is in my favorite place!
Curious George is on another adventure.This time he's in my favorite place, the library.The man with the yellow hat has brought George to the library for story time.He likes the books but sees one on dinosaurs that he hopes the librarian reads next.He gets impatient, takes the book and runs off.This is the beginning of his adventure.He goes through the library finding neat books and making a big mess in the process.The boys and girls at the library, along with a volunteer help clean up the mess.In the end the man with the yellow hat helps George get a library card and they both check out lots of great books. My Whole Family Loves This Book
This story is delightful.We bought it because we were taking our 2.5 yr old along on a ski trip and wanted him to have a silly little story that related to the mountain and skiing (even though he's not on skis yet).Well, it is just that... and more.He's learned a lot, developed an interest in skiing (maybe next year) and always gets a good laugh out of this book!It's also fun that George seems to invent snowboarding - my husband and I got a big kick out of that and have shared the story with many adult friends (isn't everyone a Curious Geroge fan?)!

I bought this book for my 3 year old, but my six year old still loves it too. A nice variety of cute, but not too long stories.I give it as a birthday gift at 4 year old birthday parties and always get good feedback.

I purchased this book as a B-day gift for my 8yr old daughter and she loves it. She has already read the whole book and is on to the next one. I like the fact that you get 8 stories all in one nice hardcover book, saves space and is very durable, which is great for the 5 toddlers I have running around that also love to look at the book.

I was disappointed with this book; I ordered it online without realizing that it was a recent publication,illustrated 'in the style of' H.A. Rey. Both the illustrations and the stories lack the charm of the originals.

It's OK
I bought this book based on the reviews on this website having never seen it first hand.While I think it is a cute story, my 18 month old book lover didn't take to it.It's the last of his picks during reading hour.

Essential Book for Small Children (and their parents!)
Jez Alborough created a modern classic with Hug, the story of a little chimpanzee named Bobo and his quest for a hug. The book uses just three words (hug, Bobo, and Mommy), and this minimalist approach serves to highlight Alborough's rich artwork. The jungle and the animals Bobo encounters are rich and vibrant, and Bobo's facial expressions tell the story better than words ever could.
Encourages creativity/imagination

Excellent Book
This Book starts off with Jay Berry Lee and his Dog, Rowdy, discovering a tree full of Monkeys. When he tells his Parents what he found, his dad mentions having read something about a bunch of escaped circus monkeys. The Circus was offering 2 dollars for each monkey, and $100 for one large monkey. Jay has always wanted a Pony and a .22 rifle, and he believes that this is the perfect opportunity to get the money he needs. Catching these Monkeys soon turns out to be harder than expected, as he, his grandfather, and his dog soon find out. I enjoyed reading this book from the start to the finish, and I would recommend this to anybody.

A wonderful, delightful book!
This is a wonderful story for readers of any age. Jay Berry's dreams of catching the wiley monkeys and winning the reward money combines delightfully with his various escapades in attempting to catch them. If ever a book can be rip-roaring hilarious and heartwarming at the same time, this one is it. This story also has some positive themes in it - the importance of family and working hard for what you want, and the ending (I won't give it away) is absolutely perfect.

Not as Good as the Other George Stories
My son LOVES trains, and he also loved the Curious George movie. He has several of the books based on the Rey's style, and the PS2 Curious George game.
Another take on George
Refusing to believe that love equals control or perhaps distracted by his companion Mrs. Needleman, the man with the yellow hat once again disappears as George wanders unsupervised. This time, in a train station mired in mid-century stasis, George rearranges the trainmaster's board in a misguided attempt to help. In the end, George discovers that what it takes to be forgiven is good intentions and the quick wits to save someone's life. george is wonderful
George is good to read after an exasperating day with your toddler or preschooler.It reminds you that it could be worse, you could REALLY have a monkey to care for, and your monkeys don't really mean to get into mischief, they are just very very curiouus.

Just as good as the original stories
To date my daughter has been reading the "Curious George" books that belonged to my husband when he was a child. I was a little skeptical that the newly written stories would capture the same spirit as thosewritten more than 30 years ago. Spanish Speakers Delight
My husband and I are both fluent in Spanish and we love this book for our two year old son. I speak only Spanish to him, hubby speaks to him in both English and Spanish. We are always looking for good books in Spanish.
Great to add to any Spanish Library
If you'd like to teach your child Spanish, reading meaningful books is a great way to do it. As other reviewers have noted, this story is easy enough to give hints for vocabulary memorization - and the child will retain the story as well as the words. If you're worried about pronunciation, you can get something with a CD like Flip Flop Spanish to help you and your child gain more confidence as well as to be able to talk ABOUT the story in Spanish.

She loves it and has developed a pretty good accent (as good as mine, anyhow :) She knows what a bolsa is, and a monito and of course a sombrero amarillo. As the introduction explains, the watercolor paintings that accompanythis special edition of the very first Curious George story made their way out of Paris on the back of Hans Rey's bicycle, as he and his wife, Margaret,narrowly escaped the German occupation. By way of Spain and Brazil, Rey and his work came to the United States, where cash-strapped children's publishers always required "color separation" art--i.e., a different drawing for each color.
