3-0 out of 5 stars Good and bad
As the owner of a dog which is part Rottie, I was happy to see a story about a good Rottweiler. And Carl is a charming and sweet dog.The drawings in this line of books are beautiful and details, and have a certain Norman Rockwell quality to them. As has been stated this is a book with pictures only which lets your little one (or you) make up the words, which can be lots of fun.BUT, I too am troubled by a story where the mom leaves the baby alone with the dog for what seems like a looong time, with the instructions for the dog to watch the baby while she is out. And, in the process the baby gets but into all kinds of dangerous situations (dropped down the laundry chute, bathed in the fish tank, etc).I just don't know if little kids will be able to understand that those things don't happen "in real life".

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Dog Carl is Great
Alexandra Day is a gifted artist and clever and funny story teller. I laughed out loud at the escapades of Baby and Carl the dog. We're read all of her books and I highly recommend them.

5-0 out of 5 stars A typical work from a master wordsman
Eric is a common citizen with common dreams who owns a common framing business. But he struggles with memories of a broken childhood and suffering that he tries to silence with his common life. His son, Keith, is about as normal as any fifteen-year-old boy can be. That is, he is quiet, withdrawn and insecure.
1-0 out of 5 stars monster plot hole
It amazes me that not a single previous reviewer noted the gaping hole in the logic of the plot that renders the entire reading excercise an utter waste of time (not mention the waste of money in purchasing the book).
5-0 out of 5 stars Quick read of a great book!
This book is really the study of a family during a central crisis, though there are other crises that keep your interest as the plot ensues.I was totally engrossed and somewhat surprised at the ending. For any reader, this is a great book for a long airline trip.It will keep you focused. ... Silent to the Bone by E.L. Kongbigde is about a boy, Banwell, who is put in a juvenile detention center for purposely dropping his new born sister, Nikkie, and putting her in a coma.Branwell has not said a word scene the accident.Connor Kane, Branwell best friend, is able to find a way to communicate to enter view certain people that Branwell tells hem.
4-0 out of 5 stars moving, smart story
Branwell Zamborska's baby sister Nikki is in a coma.No one knows what happened except Vivian, the English au pair, and Branwell.Vivian got on the line that day and said that Branwell dropped the baby, so he's in a juvenile detention center.Branwell hasn't said anything since the Nikki stopped breathing.Connor, his best friend, doesn't believe that Branwell is really guilty, so he starts visiting and trying to communicate with him.Piece by piece Connor finds out what really happened that day, but he has to find enough evidence to get Branwell out of there. This is a great "serious" book that's light enough to appeal to young adults.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
This exciting novel makes you want to read it over and over again, to make sure you didn't miss a single clue or hint when the story is unraveling.Konigsburg writes a suspenseful lead by beginning the story with a 911 call where Branwell, a thirteen year old boy is struck dumb.Just after reading those first few pages, the reader is compelled to read the rest of the story to see how it will unfold.Since this story is told from Connor's point of view, it makes it easier for children to relate to when they are reading it.This book portrays the realities of life for some of today's children since many children today have nannies or au pairs and many children are dealing with troubled friendships and families. It discusses serious issues, such as emerging sexuality that mature middle school children and high school students could relate to.The author touches on those issues in a gentle but mature manner.Konigsburg also focuses on the meaning of friendship and family throughout this book. Connor and Branwell rekindle their friendship and realize how important it is to have a true friend you can trust telling your deepest thoughts. Both teenagers realize the importance of supporting and relying on their family members, especially in a time of need. This book is definitely a "must read." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars i really really liked it!..A LOT!
I thought that this book was brillantly written! go AMM!I mean of course there is going to be compeition and everything with the club, and how sometimes parents can be so impossiable! even though we know that they do care they seem a little overprotective and dont really listen to what we have to say, so i like this book a lot. and i like it when stacey and charollete bonds, this book is realy good. and its so sad how stacey was upset because she cares about the babysitters club because she doesnt want to lose any of her friends, and i liked that her and laine[her former best friend] were cool again.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very great book
I liked this book because it shows kids how to be responsible when babysitting. It shows them the right and the wrong things to do when babysitting. I also liked this book because it was an awsome story.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth About Stacey
The Truth About Stacey is a good book. The whole book isn't about the main plot. THAT part of the book is this: Well, there're these two girls named Liz and Michelle start this club that's a COPY of The Baby-Sitters Club called THE BABY-SITTERS Agency. Well, while the entire club is dealing with THAT, STACEY has problems of her own. What are they? Will The Baby-Sitters Club be able to beat The Baby-Sitters Agency at their own game? ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars More Lemonade
I really wanted to give this book five stars but I feel that the ending was rushed. Ms. Wolff did a wonderful job with introducing the characters and building them up over time, however I feel cheated of not being able to see more of Jolly's transition towards change in the end.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real for Teens
As a high school teacher I am always looking for a book that will speak to the heart and soul of the teen years. This is one such book. Written in the persona of a 14 year old girl, the book has pathos, humor and hope. The characters are believable, lovable and their mistakes are understandable. The minute my students opened the book, boys and girls, they were caught. So was I! There is so much to this unusually written book, that I am only sorry I started it so near the end of the school year.
5-0 out of 5 stars ! HELP !
Are you the type of person that is planning on going to college, but doesn't have the money to do it? Well this is the right book to read. This book may be written in poems but it doesn't mean it rhymes and it's boring. This book talks about a young teenage girl named Lavaughn.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better than The Babysitters Books
When I was little these book were very popular. They had movies which I loved to watch. But I was so little and the books were so long that I realy did not want to read them. I still do not want to read them because they are still a bit to long and they are just long boring books. This book is so great I read it in less than 3 days.I found this book at a book fair at my school and wanted it very bad. I love the comics on every page I think it makes it more interesting and it is more creative. You see many books out there and most of them are not very interesting once you buy it and start reading it. I love to read books but one thing I hate is SUMER READING. Most comic books are for boys but they do make some for girls but this is the best book I have ever read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
I love everything about this book. Raina Telgemeier managed to capture the characters perfectly, and there's so much energy in the drawings. She also does a really good job distilling the book's original text. If you like the BSC, or liked it as a kid, you'll definitely enjoy this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant adaptation!!

5-0 out of 5 stars people please!
i agree that these books dont talk about the issues that we go through these days as teenagers but these books were made for younger kids! and who would want to read about sex and all i mean come on! there are more important things like: frienships, parents, school and boys that are just as interesting as drugs and all. so yeah sometimes they can be immmature but so can we! im sure everyone has there immature moments right? and i just wanted to say that this book is great! how claudia became close with maryanne and kristy again and along with stacey! these girls couldnt be more different yet they compliment each other perfectly! the weird thingis i dont relate to kristy i am more like stacey and dawn but this book is a good one. a great one nonetheless!

5-0 out of 5 stars Hey, Tiffany!
I totally agree with you, these books are for kids 8-14 or so, I really don't think many 8yr olds are into stuff these people want them to be about, Martin writes what she wants, you can publish a book of your own of this horrible stuff. You may think these books stink, but people who are interested in something called "life" and "fun" will enjoy these books, if you don't like these, don't read them, OK? You were raised as jerks, Really, how many 8-10yr olds would luv reading this stuff? How many?
5-0 out of 5 stars What is wrong with you people???
You are complaining that the books are too "nice".There's no sex, drugs, drinking, etc. They're 13!!!!And I was 8 when I started reading the BSC.Why on earth would any responsible author write a series for young girls and fill it with stuff like that. This is FICTION (yeah, look it up).An escape from reality. You want sex, drugs, drinking, turn on the TV or something. The BSC was a GREAT series.I read it for years, well into my early teens, and I recommend it to any young girl. The was the series that spawned my love of reading. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Berenstein's Sitter
The book, The Berenstein Bears and the sitter, is wonderful. In the book, the cubs are very scared because a babysitter is coming to stay with them. However, once she gets there, the cubs find out that she is actually very nice and fun. They end up having a great time with her. I thought this book was very colorful and interesting. I love all of the Berenstein Bears books. Many times children are afraid of babysitters, but this book shows them there is no need to be. I would recommend this book to all children.

5-0 out of 5 stars This should be reprinted!
I was sorry to see that this was out of print. In fact I just read it tonight to my youngest child. This book has been a favorite of all three of my kids!Mark Teague is terrific. This book is fast paced and easy enough for even the youngest child to understand. The illustrations are pure hillarity!I also recommend "The Secret Shortcut" and "The Lost and Found".

5-0 out of 5 stars Mark Teague is the best!
We have a number of books by Mark Teague, and this is our favorite. We too checked it out from the library, and liked it so much that we had to buy our own copy. The paintings are very kinetic and the story is charming. Iespecially liked the kids' Secret Plan #2 to impress the babysittter!

5-0 out of 5 stars a charming lesson in testing limits
We originally checked this book out from the library and decided to add it to our library. The illustrations are wonderful and keep the kids very interested from page to page. The message is very clear and creativelypresented about trying to push someones buttons and the results of gettingno reaction. 5-0 out of 5 stars good counting book
Listen, my kids love the "little monkeys" but I used this one to teach my "almost" 4 yr old to count up to and past 100. As reader you might be tempted to gloss over the counting but if your kid is ready this is a great way to teach them to count. Add it to your library so you'll have when they are ready. I was amazed none of the other reviews emphasized this point, so I just had to add my two cents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Go Bananas for this Book!
Ready or not, the Five Little Monkeys are at it again!Mama, dressed in bright red, leaves her five little mischief-makers with a blue-eye-shadowed, bubble-gum blowing teen named Lulu. They'll try anything to keep from going to bed at eight, including an ongoing game of hide-and-seek and a frantic quest for the ultimate hiding spot.My girls, ages 5 and 3, love all the books in the Five Little Monkey series because they're so silly. The rhyming text and repetitive phrases make it easy for them to read along with me...over and over again, of course (they're not the only monkeys who hate to go to bed on time!).

4-0 out of 5 stars ready for a fun game of hide and seek?
The five little monkey are left with a baby sitter for the night. They want to play hide and seek.Their baby sitter agrees to one game but it leads to several more. Each time the baby sitter is told to count a little higher and the game gets more intense! They trick her into counting to 104.After that she can't find them anywhere!Mama comes home nd finds them hiding in bed!

I enjoyed this story a lot. Mary Ann is my favorite out of all the charecters. She is really smart ans sweet. Read this book. you will like it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Mary Anne is Hero!
I thought this was a prettygood book, but when they fight over who gets to baby sit Lucy Newton that's what I didn't like about it. I thought Mary Ann had good judgement When Jenny got sick. Also I thought it was pretty cool when Mary Ann tried to get her friends back together, and made a new friend in the process.

This book was OK. I think that it was very very stupid for them to have been fighting so long. I also think it was stupid that Mary Anne lied to Dawn from the beginning of their friendship. Overall though the book was good. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars comedic chaotic city life!
What a busy book! Lauren Child has created a tongue-twisting, mind-boggling story about the adventures of two city kids whose Mom must hurry off in help of her own brother, a policeman, who has slipped on a doughnut & hurt his legs.5-0 out of 5 stars Rip Roarin' Fun!
When Clarice Bean's Uncle Ernie slips on a doughnut and breaks both his legs, her mother has to rush to New York and help him out.Unfortunately her dad has to go away on important business and the only person they can find to babysit Clarice, her phone talking older sister, Marcie, her sun hating big brother Kurt, her accident prone little brother Minal and wandering Grandad is Uncle Ted.Clarice is thrilled.Uncle Ted is the best. He's a firefighter who loves westerns, can lasso lamps or kids and has been known to break a few things in the past.Mother leaves very strict instructions. She wants her house in one piece when she gets back and all goes very well for the first two days. But then Minal let's the school guinea pig, Albert, that they're taking care of over spring break, out of his cage and all heck breaks loose..... Lauren Child's sequel to Clarice Bean, That's Me will have both old fans and new readers jumping for joy and laughing out loud at the antics of this "typical" family.Narrated by Clarice, this charming and hilarious story really captures the essence of the grade school mind as she tells everyone about the terrible chain of events that was set off when Albert got away.Ms Child's delightful prose is almost outdone by her creative cartoon and collage artwork and even the text is artistic, changing fonts and size and wrapping itself in and around the illustrations.Perfect for youngsters in grades 1-4, Clarice Bean, Guess Who's Babysitting is a rip roarin' good time the whole family will enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Baby-sitters and others will identify with Henry
Henry Reed, the thin and studious boy who likes to address problems in a logical manner, has set his sights on continuing his fledgling business. Reed and Glass, Inc. made Henry and his sometimes-obnoxious friend Midge Glass some money last year, and after a survey of the neighborhood, Henry discovers that there is a need for baby-sitters in the area. The bulk of the book focuses on the adventures that Henry faces as he tries to run a business with as many problems as rewards.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun and Games in this "classic"
This was the first Henry Reed book I ever read, shown to me by my mother. Right away I got into the story, though I hadn't read the preceding books in the series. I couldn't keep my eyes off the predicaments of Henry and his best friend, Midge, as they went through their problems and misadventures while looking after children. Told from Henry's point of view in a diary format, he tells a story well and with bits of humour inserted in there additionally. Keith Robertson has made a good character.

5-0 out of 5 stars More fun from Henry and Midge
Anyone who has ever babysat before will be all-too-familiar with the trials Henry and Midge have to suffer through in this third book of the Henry Reed series. Keith Robertson does it once again with wackybabysitting scenarios everyone can identify with. You'll be cheering by theend of the book -- I guarantee it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This story is actually about just plain bravery
This book teaches more than just being scared to lose a tooth. I think the main theme of this story is bravery. Arthur brags that he is "Captain Fearless," but both sibings(even Arthur) have a fear of something-Arthur is scared to lose his first tooth-and Violet is scared of the dark. But when the treat for dessert is taffy apples, Arthur doesn't want them because of his loose tooth(and his fear to pull it out), so Violet decides to make s'mores but has to go out in the dark to get sticks to make them-and faces her fear, so Arthur decides to face his fear-and chooses to be the,"Captain Fearless" he calls himself so pulls out his tooth and then he IS able to eat the taffy apples as well as the s'mores. In other words, this is a great story to teach about any kind of bravery!

5-0 out of 5 stars The other Arthur experienced the other tooth-losing feeling
The lesser known Arthur character, created by Lillian Hoban. Many people may know Marc Brown's story, "Arthur's Tooth" about Arthur the aardvark, but they may not necessarily realize that each Arthur has a different message. One is about being desperate to lose a tooth, the other about being scared to lose a tooth. I actually prefer Lillian Hoban's Arthur the monkey over Marc Brown's Arthur the aardvark, so I purchased this book as well as other Arthur the monkey titles. This one reminded me of when I was scared to lose my first tooth. Plus this one teaches how to make taffy apples and s'mores, and tells how the s'more got its name on page 62. If you wish, buy the Marc Brown book listed above, then buy this book and compare the two feelings of each Arthur character. However, if you are particularly interested in this title, beware of trying to obtain a book club edition through a school book club which has this title listed, as you may accidentally get sent the Marc Brown title. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A Shy but functioning mouse.
I was at the library with my children tonight when I saw this book on the shelf. The title intrigued me as I have a 4 year old son Charles (we call him Charlie) who can be shy from time to time.I stopped what we were doing retrieved the book, and read it to him and my 2 daughters.
1-0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTING
I have been looking for books to help my child with SELECTIVE MUTISM begin to understand his difficulties with talking in public. We like so many of Rosemary Wells' other books, so I was excited to find this one. Luckily, I previewed it first! The pressure from Charles' parents and the ridicule and name-calling because Charles won't talk are APPALLING. How is this supposed to help a child begin to feel good about themselves?? If anything, this book seems to want to shame a shy child into talking, not build his confidence. Sure, Charles rises to the occasion and saves his babysitter. In the end, though, he realizes no breakthrough and gains nothing from his heroic act. Do not read this book to your child if you want to help him/her get over shyness!

1-0 out of 5 stars unfortunate name-calling in this book
We are tried and true Rosemary Wells fans, and are familiar with most of her books.I borrowed this one from the library, and was disappointed to find Charles' parents expressing their frustration through language like "another mother would have spanked you" for not saying thank you or goodbye (maybe Wells could have the mother model good manners rather than threatening punishment)and the father actually calling him names for not participating in football, which Dad forced on him. What a negative approach to modeling the behavior you want your child to adopt, never mind giving parents the idea that it's OK to treat a child in this manner.Needless to say, I edited it heavily when I read it, then returned it to the library post haste! Not one for my library! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dawn and the Impossible Three
Make that the Impossible Four. The Barrett kids are a lot to handle, but they're out of control because their mother doesn't TAKE control, making Mrs. Barrett the most impossible of all.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best of the beginning books!
This book was very interesting. I don't know, but I think this is the first appearance of the Barrets. Anyway, poor Dawn has to deal with MONSTERS for BSC clients. Also, too much bizzer sign! I wish there was less of that. Kristy was a total jerk in this one. Why can't she get over herself!!!!!! Everyone needs a variety of friends. Buddy's disappearance was scary. VERY scary. But the rest of the plotline and stuff was very well done.

4-0 out of 5 stars WRONG TITLE!!
Don't judge a book by it's cover - or it's title! The title "DAWN AND THE IMPOSSIBLE THREE" gives you an idea tht the Barrett kids are a real problem, but don't be fooled! The book should be called "DAWN AND IMPOSSIBLE MRS. BARRETT". She never gives Dawn baby-sitting instructions, leaves the wrong phone numbers and leaves the house a wreck, making Dawn feel that it's her responsibility to clean up! Her disorganization leaves Dawn in a mess when Buddy Barrett is kidnapped by his father. (He is returned in the end.) I am happy, though, that Dawn got everything straightened out in the end with Impossible Mrs. Barrett! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars More Junk On Life's Path
Beautifully illustrated book and perfect for dumbing down your child. Imagine silly Elmo, role model, talking about bedtime. Elmo has little to offer in this book. My daughter isn't allowed to and doesn't come up with 100 things she must do before going to bed. Why let Elmo teach her to stall or manipulate? If I read this book to her, she may need to check under the bed, water the plants, open the window and look outside, feed the fish, run out of the room to check to see if the water was left running, check to make sure the cap is on the toothpaste, close the window, et cetera before going to bed.I have a collection of now over 300 children's books and this one just doesn't offer much. There are so many better books out there--many classics which are engaging and silly, but ALSO teach kids lessons on HOW TO LIVE AND ACT.Often both parents are working these days and there is less time that they are around to teach their children about morality and how to live. Why waste time with this book? Even that purple dinosaur has more to offer!

5-0 out of 5 stars Another precious Elmo Book, a MUST Have!
This book is SO cute, my son loves it! It's the larger sized book (about 8 1/2 x 11) it's always hard to know because they never tell you in the description. Fabulous poem about going to sleep, lovely graphics and sweet as can be. My only wish was that it was a board book because I'm always afraid the pages are going to get ripped. Either way, don't hesitate this is one of Elmo's best!!!! P.S. I thought when it said (Glitter Picturebook) that the pages would be sparkly - they are not, I have no idea what Glitter Picturebook means but in case you were wondering:)

Another winner from Mr. Mayer! My son loves the Little Critter series and was quite pleased with the story. He had his first babysitter (other than the Grandparents) yesterday, so the timeliness wasn't lost on him. Neither was the sarcasm. The tone of the book is lighthearted. Critter helps the babysitter out with the meal and his little sister, with comical results. After the little sister is put to bed, the babysitter really shows her ineptitude and the fun really starts.3-0 out of 5 stars ...Review
"Just Me and My Babysitter" by Mercer Mayer was a pretty good book, but not one of the best by Mercer Mayer. It is a kid telling a story about what him, his sister and his babysitter do when his parents go out. The kid in the story thinks he is helping the babysitter out, by helping to do the dishes, making dinner, giving his sister a bath and things like that. The illustrations show that he is just making the babysitter angry because he keeps making messes and causing trouble. Kids would most likely find the book funny because the illustrations don't match when the words are saying. Some children might try to imitate what the pictures are showing, and cause trouble for their own parents or babysitter.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing from Mercer Mayer
While the children and I love the "Just Me" series, this one was particularly disappointing. The kids just don't appreciate the heavysarcasm and disrespect, and were quite horrified that the babysitter endedup sleeping on the couch while the kids were up.The book is aboutdisrespect, disobedience, a lack of adult control and is written in such amanner as to encourage children to copy it.I threw this book in thegarbage. ...
