5-0 out of 5 stars excellet aid
My AP Biology class used the Campbell textbook, and I purchased this study guide to read along with it. It's perfect for summarizing the text and it goes into detail which is probably needed for the class tests. I wouldnt advise that you rely on the study guide, however, it is an excellent review with some practice questions and charts in each section that match the textbook. It goes into great depth for it to be a good AP test prep book. If you are looking for a AP Bio prep book for the AP test, I recommend Cliffnotes. If your class is using the respective Campbell textbook, it's a great idea to have this as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars this study guide helped me
This study guide helped to clarify information in my text that was unclear.By using this study guide it helped me to raise my grades in both of my college biology classes.Subjects liked ecology, the five kingdoms and energy pathways were explained with the reader in mind.I also found the following awesome for test preparation:
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for test review, etc
My AP Biology course uses Campbell's Biology as its main text. I ordered the study guide to help me study for tests. When I do the reading, I use this study guide to read the short summary, then read the section in the book. So far, this strategy has been very effective. In addition, the multiple choice study questions at the end of each chapter is very helpful. This book presents the information in a very organized, logical, and concise way. I would recommend it to anyone. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard to Follow any September
My kids (and I) found this book hard to follow. It is much too complex for the age grop it is intended. Hard to follow, follow, follow ... Try to remember this next September!

4-0 out of 5 stars Evolution remains to be demonstrated
1) Abiogenesis has not yet been demonstrated; 2) the alleged common ancestor has not yet been identified; 3) the mechanism of evolution is still to be determined; 4) vestigial organs have a function after all; 5) junk-DNA has a function after all; 6) the intermediate forms in the fossil record are still missing; 7) the intermediate forms in molecular biology are still missing; 8) there is much evidence of catastrophism in the fossil record; 9) evidence of a global environmental cathaclism several thousand years ago is mounting; 10) Lucy has been proven to be a monkey after all; 11) Neandertals are human after all; 12) the ape-man "line" of evolution is flawed after all; 13) dinossaurs were contemporary of mammals after all; 14) evidence of information, design, irreducible complexity and fine-tuning is overwhelming in astronomy, physics and biology; 15) random evolution is mathematically impossible; 16) simply making thousands of copies of the instructions to make a paper airplane will never get you the instructions of an Airbus A380; 17) developing resistance to antibiothics doesn't add any new genetic information, so it can be said to demonstrate evolution; 18)small variations within species or speciation always rely on pre-existent genetic information, so cannot be said to prove evolution; 19) even if a monkey could randomly type the instructions to build an Airbus A380 it would still take a very intelligent being to realize that and to structure the building process; 20)living and polystratic fossils abound.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very good bio text.
This text is very complete and goes over all the concepts of biology like five kingdoms, cells and ecology. It is written with the student in mind and a very helpful text.I also used The Ultimate Study Guide for Biology: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations by Patrick Leonardi (Volume 1, 2, 3)

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book
I used this book for my introduction to Biology class my freshman year of college.Cecie Starr has a good way to explaining to me certain concepts by using current research that is easy to understand, and connects to the chapter. She uses examples and images illustrating the concept that I thought were helpful, and I was surprised by how up-to-date the book really was (the most recent thing I've seen is the SARS virus), and was even more fascinated for it.Also, Starr makes a point in redefining terms, or telling in what section the term is defined, so that the reading is more understandable.
5-0 out of 5 stars Good book, helpful for college bio
This was my text in my undergraduate biology classes. It is filled with a lot of information and can be intense at times. However, I must say is very complete.Topics such as ecology, evolution, animal structure and function were particularly interesting.I also used more than one source to study from.Patrick Leonardi's "The Ultimate Study Guide for Biology: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations (Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3) were right on the mark for great test preparation questions. They were just awesome and so helpful for helping me really get a hold on what is important to study for in biology.Cecie Starr's Biology: Concepts and Applications helped me to first learn biology. Patrick Leonardi's study guides showed me what kind of questions to get ready for on my bio I and II exams. These books helped me to pass biology with very good grades.I thank both these authors for writing these books.

1-0 out of 5 stars too wordy, too advance for an intro book
cecie starr, gets mixed up in her own poorly written (and many times, poorly organized) textbook and produces numerous grammatical errors that make her sentences have two meanings, or mean something else that's completely wrong. the textbook uses too many pronouns, like "it" "them" "they" and you end up wasting time finding out what "that" was 2 to three sentences ago. one ends up spending too much time figuring out what she tried to mean, and the logic of her grammar, rather than learning the new material.so you end up reading a chapter over and over again without much help. her pages are jam packed with new and therefore hard concepts to grasp, without much explanation. starr needs an editor big time, especially when it comes to simplifying her complicated and poor writing of the already not so simple concepts of biology to new students. i do not recommend this book (or most of cecie starr's textbooks) to novices, this book is an easy read for bio experts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This is an awesome biology book! I'm in 7th grade and I really enjoyed learning from this textbook in my science class. It is packed with information and easy to understand, but at the same time also goes in depth. I found it very interesting. There are so many different and exciting topics in it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good text
This easy to read text was a good book for helping me learn biology for my college classes.I really liked topics on animal structure and function and ecology.I also found Patrick Leonardi's "The Ultimate Study Guide for Biology: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations" vol 1, vol 2, and vol 3 to have excellent test preparation questions that guided me on the importants points to study (and very helpful for my exams!). ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
I'm a high school Biology student, and this is the textbook our teacher's using. This book is terrible due to the fact that it expects you to blatantly memorize all of the material in it; I mean, the content is presented in the most terrible way possible, making it utterly useless for you to understand what you're reading before you memorize it. In the Chemistry chapters, I reverted to referring to an IGCSE textbook because of how bad the explanations were.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent --I mean outstanding in every way.
I have two unrelated degrees, and had only high school biology.I use this book for self-study.It is perfect. Its long list of reviewers gave me confidence in its lessons.
3-0 out of 5 stars Learned A lot--But Hated Learning
This book really goes in depth in information on all aspects of Biology. However, as a student, I have found that it is extremely difficult to learn from without the direct aid from a biologist or teacher. The vocabulary is over extravagent for a teaching book, and the section review questions badly organized and tiresome. The pictures and diagrams did help me to learn a lot however, because it combined visual along with analytic learning. Overall, I have learned a lot, but had a hard time learning it. And I may well forget this within a few weeks. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I'm a freshman in Honors Biology and
out teacher is sick and we have a permanent substitute.I find this book confusing and the teacher doesn't do a very well job at explaining it.There are plenty of facts and information, just too much at one time.I suggest making a photocopy of the pages you are reading and highlighting the facts to study...

2-0 out of 5 stars Agreed- confusing
I agree that the book was confusing. I would not recommend it. Even with help from teachers, I did not fully grasp the information taught to me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly Written and Overall Poor Quality
As a honors biology student I am very good in science and genraly like all of the books that I have used.I would say, with out a doubt, this is perhaps the worst textbook ever written. The concepts are explaind so poorly and unclearly all they can do is confuse a student. The language is written as a college level textbook.I would encouarge anyone consdiering this textbook to look for a new one.You could not do any worse.Even teachers can not understand this book. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Biology mess
This biology book is a written fairly well, but it could be better if more thought and organization were put into it! The only problem with it are the review questions and other questions at the end of the chapters. They are poorly written and when you're looking for the answers, they're not really in the section that it was intended for. Instead, the answers are in previous sections or chapters before!! It's a complete nightmare trying to answer them! How do they expect a student to learn from and focus on a section in which you have to stop thinking about it in order to review previous chapters or sections? Be consistent and organized please!!!! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Online Order of School Book
I received excellent service when I ordered this book online through Amazon. The service made it easier to obtain an item that would have taken much more time that I cannot spare. The item received was just as expected--in excellent condition.I would recommend this service to all.Amazon takes away the worries of difficulties/problems that could easily arise.

1-0 out of 5 stars Dhs biology
At dunwoody high biology is very hard at least in my class. This book didn't make it any easer weighing in at 250lbs i would do whatever it took not to lug this thing to and from school. So I got the cd.I still have to carry the book to class and the cd stinks anyways.I also find the concepts a little uh poorly written. This book stinks.I'm hoping however to try and work around it and pull my grade up.I just hope the next class won't have to deal with that aweful book.

1-0 out of 5 stars [NO GOOD!]
This book is no good, my students never bring it to class and never crack it open, yet they still manage to recieve mostly A's and B's. Paying somewhat attention in class could help you just as much if not more than reading this nuisance of a book!!!Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Too Wordy
I found this book a bit dissapointing to use as a supplement for high school biology students. The coloring pages are too wordy and not user friendly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Educational Coloring Book
This Biology coloring book has been fantastic for my son.It is not a 'for pleasure' coloring book, although it would be for me.It is not a child's book.It is a teaching resource.Highschool to college ages will get great benenfit from this.I recommend buying a 48+ Prism color pencil set, and start enjoying yourself while learning Biology.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good supplementary, review, or reference text for basic biology
I use this book as an optional/supplementary text in college, non-major biology classes. Some of the information and ideas are outdated, but the book has value on at least 3 different levels:

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, bright, and fun!
There are actual complete sentences in this book in both English and Spanish (not true of a lot of board books), which is perfect for this age and level range. This will be a great addition to Flip Flop Spanish workbook (level 2, not released yet) to help review or even introduce body parts.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for curious young minds!
My niece has lots of questions about lots of things (3 yrs.old) and it is a continuous challenge to occupy her active mind. This book was a great find for her. She has a new bilinqual friend at pre-school and is excited about learning to talk the way her friend can talk! As these kids have a growing awareness about their bodies and many other things, it is great to find books like this that teach and expand a child's world awareness. Lots of fun and highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great teaching tool!
One of the main reasons I got this book was because of how easy it made the information to learn for kids. This book is filled with fun illustrations labeled in english and spanish. Each page also has two sentences, one in each language, which use the featured part of the body in a sentence. I would definitely recommend it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book for every student
I know I have a biased opinion of this book since I worked on the lab manual that accompanies this book. That said, I can't pass up the opportunity to recommend this book to my fellow biology teachers. This book is going to change the way kids learn biology. The intergrated nature of the web activities and the clean, uncluttered, focused writing of the textbook will make biology understandable to students who get lost in a sea of vocabulary.Campbell's vision for this program was to collaborate with a team of classroom teachers to create a textbook, website and lab program that are designed to work together in a dynamic, pracical way for real kids - well it worked.Check it out! ...
