1-0 out of 5 stars mortal kombat : evolved, but no guide needed really
Mortal Kombat:DA is a fine game with all new characters and graphics that r fantastic on xbox but not on ps2 or gamecube {and i'm not just saying that cause i hate the ngc or ps2 cause i own all 3 and have experience with them] But is a strategy guide really needed the game's isn't even difficult and u already have their moves list on an especially easy to follow menu , so i dont think it's needed but saying that it is useful for fatalities which r cool but not as cool as mk1 and mk2 . And is there any way to do friend ships cause they were cool especially Lui kang's disco inferno and thats true as well MK:DA doesn't have good fighters in like Shao Kahn and Lui Kang and Sub zero looks worse than ever as well as Raiden who Looks powerless just like KUng Lao and reptile as well . So in conclusion guide is ok but only for fatalities , MK:DA is good but NOT AS GOOD as MK1 and MK2 which were fantastic on arcade and snes but hard to play on megadrive.2-0 out of 5 stars Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance?-Good.This guide?-Not.
Mortal Kombat:Deadly Alliance is probably the best fighting game out there. However, when I bought the guide, I realized that it was exactly the same info that could be found in the character's Konquest mode, and by pausing any game and bringing up the character's moves. The guide only adds a few combos, and it never covers any character's fighting styles very well.

3-0 out of 5 stars a little bit too easy
maria litvin - i'd recommend it to anyone who never learned java b4. this book definitely stresses over concept, but the problems are not enough and much easier than the test i took in may. as a result, i'd recommend u to buy this book, but a harder book to go along with it like ds-marketing or barron's.
5-0 out of 5 stars A boon to AP Java students
This is a great book. I feel that I owe them for making this book. The authors do a great job in simply summarizing the concepts covered on the AP test, and providing great examples - the free response questions were right on the money! Highly suggested.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Review Manual for the AP Comp Sci Exam in Java
Maria Litvin has done an extraordinary job of putting together the new "Be Prepared for the AP Computer Science Exam in Java".This review manual, which has enough detail to double as a text book, has everything students need to focus on prior to taking the exam.It addresses everything in the ETS Java subset that students should have studied during the school year and has outstanding multiple choice and free response practice exam questions. The tests even include questions about the Java Marine Biology Simulation program which students need to know for the exam. Her web site also includes the 2003 C++ free response questions, which have been translated into Java.If you are searching for a great review manual with great practice questions, this is it! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Bland but at least shiny
The guide doesn't offer a great deal of content. Some nice shiny pictures, a lot of information rehashed from the game manual, a few good character ideas and a fairly good walkthrough. As some one who played this game way too much, it's clear the creators had only modest familiarity with the game just by the descriptions they offer for feats, items, etc. If you like having a walkthrough it does a solid job of that, but otherwise I found it mostly useless.

3-0 out of 5 stars neverwinter nights: hordes of the underdark
pros: very informative, good flow with the game story line
4-0 out of 5 stars It's worth it
Well, I must say that the writer has a bit of a sence of Humor, however I think the book is a bit backwords. The detail for the story and quests are very good, however they should have placed it in the front of the book, not the back. Very colorful, well writen and full of info. This is a must for NWN players. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, book with LOTS of examples and programming problems.
I use this book in a Computer Science class, and I feel that I have learned very well from this book...there are a lot of good examples, and a lot of good programming problems to help you learn. The book goes at afairly slow pace, so you can comprehend everything.I gave the book 4stars.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is confusing
This book offers good examples but the questions are confusing and badly worded it lacks lots of explination on the nature of the program to be written

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, easy to understand, many examples
This book has alot of examples, many that are very easy to understand, and some that get harder and you have to really think to figure them out.It has debugging problems, and it has programs that you have to write and solve.I know it is used in many school districts too. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars At this price??
I sincerely hope no one would be crazy enough to buy the strategy guide at four times the price of the game. It is a good game, but you can figure out most of the stuff that is in the guide for yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars Decent Play
I really was put down when I realized how different tactics would be compared to the origional Fallout 1 and 2; it had excellent graphics and a good storyline, and the new and improved items were great. I can't forget the multiplayer and map creators that are readily available, but if you are interested in buying tactics for the sheer RPG value of it,then don't even bother. Go for Deus Ex or Baldurs Gate. 5-0 out of 5 stars A well layed out book
This book has many tables and lists of all the statistics in the Fallout Tactics universe. It also gives information on comabat, charactors (and charactor building), missions, enemies, perks, skills, MULTIPLAYER, and tips on how to win your way to victory. It was easy to understand, the good thing was that it didn't tell exactly what to do. This left the game open, not a complete walkthrough (you know, do this, do that... no fun!). The book really helps make the Fallout expirience ten times better. Buy this book and make the most out of your game. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating. Started me on my cryptologic studies.
Reading this book gave me my start in my self study of cryptography, its science and its history. While I will not pretend to be anywhere near an expert on the subject, I found this book very insightful. It is an easy read, and not tedious in any way. It is meant as a "science for non-scientists" type book, and more of a history than anything else. (I have only managed to solve the first two cryptologic challenges at the end of this book, but am diligently working on the rest in my spare time.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful
The Code Book is a delightful treatment of the subject of cryptography. It is a nice combination of history, science, warfare and politics.5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone remotely interested in codes!
I have always been fascinated by codes and Singh has put together a comprehensive book on the history of codes.Having read many books on codes, Singh was still able to enthrall me with some historical stories that I had not come across. It's not just technical stuff, but is written with the novice in mind as well. But the book holds enough technical information to keep the enthusiast interested as well. The version I bought has a crypt contest in the back, which I enjoyed working on - I was only able to solve the first 3 or so puzzles, but it was a lot of fun. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good layout and breakdown, but not very accurate.
I thought that the book was organized nicely, the fact that there was three levels of information given for each area helped you get the hint you needed without getting too much information and spoiling some of the fun. The first section lists all the areas and important people to talk to, the second gives you hints as to what you should be trying to accomplish in that area, and the last section gives detailed instructions. There are also sections on enemies and equiptment. I thought that they needed to add more detail when giving the most detailed hints though. Lines like "If your speech skill is high enough..." Why not just say that you need a 45 in speech? My main problem though, was simply inaccuracy. About five times a main point is incorrect, such as needing to go to junktown for a SMG or a disarming key being on the Lt. in the Glow. In summation, good design, most of the info you need, but some irritating inaccuracy. By: Travis Blinkenberg

4-0 out of 5 stars A little too official but it's still a good guide
If you are beginnig to play fallout or are stucksomewere in the game it's the book for you. On the other hand, I bought this book because I had conquered every level in the game and I wanted to see if there was something else that I hadn't come by in Fallout, unfortunatly there wasn't so I was quite dissapointed in that and also they talked about fancy weapons you can have but they don't tell you where they are.I still enjoyed reading about the best game on the computer right now even though it was a little too official and not very oppiniated. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It is about time...
With so much talk about stories, games and interactivity, it is about time there is such a comprehensive book about the convergence of all these concepts.Andrew Glassner not only captures the present trends and experiments going on in these areas, but has presented an in-depth background and methodology of each. The advantage of this book is that it is from perspective of someone that has pioneered developments in each of these areas. His casual writing style allows us to enter the creative thought process evaluating such diverse examples and creative relationships.
5-0 out of 5 stars Exploring the convergence of Games and Stories
Lots of people have been thinking recently about the holy grail of computer games, that is the melding of good quality stories with fun computer games. On the surface, this seems like it should be easy, get some good writers together with some game programmers and voila, great things should result. This excellent book shows why things are not nearly as simple as they might appear to be.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brings interesting ideas into the mix
This book first gives an education in the elements of storytelling and in game design. Once this basis is established, the book then delves into the various issues and contradictions involved in the idea of interactive storytelling.

This book covers the game basics in a quick but effective introduction, with an explanation of the characters in the game, the different moves Yoshi can perform, and the way in which everything is scored. It then proceeds right on to the good stuff, with a straightforward focus on providing advice and solutions for the game's many levels. By lining up multiple screen shots, the book provides some nice full-level maps along with a generous helping of close-ups to illustrate key points. Also, you'll find call-out boxes throughout the book, each providing a helpful tip or trick.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars If you know google, you don't need this book
This is a book for parents and children who are completely in the dark about google. It's the largest, most used search engine out there.Quite frankly, who doesn't know about Google at this point in time. Also, the links mentioned in this book that will be "maintained" and "monitored" and etc.--shouldn't parents be monitoring the sites that their children visit? Does anyone know the involvement and the amount of manpower this will take for a company to monitor ALL of these links?Next to impossible..yet only time will tell. What happened to good-old-fashioned Make Way for Ducklings? What about time away from "the web".DK is really for youngsters who can't read.YES, DK books are full of gorgeous pictures, but that's about...this is a hyped up title. You don't need it.Two stars for effort...I guess they are trying to keep up with technology? ... 2-0 out of 5 stars What's Up with this guide??!!
What is up with the guides lately? Can they NOT get a walkthrough correctly?!IF you want to get almost everything in the game this is NOT the guide for you! Many errors! It tells you to go west when you should go east in many places. Also leaves you hanging in areas where you NEED detailed help.Had to call the Nintendo help line so many times for certain areas of the walkthrough. Mind you I played the game more than 1/4th without a guide.SAVE YOUR MONEY and go print a walkthrough from gamefaqs.comI am surprised because most Brady guides are good. This one will have you walking around in circles!I am ordering the OFFICIAL NINTENDO guide and hoping it will be better for the Oracle Of Seasons part.Nowadays you take a chance ordering game guides :(Even one guide I had ordered from Nintendo was so wrong I had to call them and give them ALL the corrections.Such sloppy work nowadays. DISGUSTING! And yet they want to make money doing these things. HA!

The book provides a good overview but stays on a quite overall level without really getting deep into the important problems in the serious games space. It seems a bit US-centric. But definitely a good companion for anyone wanting to do serious games.

As a Serious Game Developer, I am keenly aware of the state of our industry, of our movement. We have in a few years achieved a meteoric rise in exposure and progress butthis is not enough. There are a multitude of new ideas and projects that don't know what is out there, that don't know we are out there. There is much still to be learned and only by knowing what is out there here and now can new (and old) projects hope to succeed in this nascent field.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good guide with one mistake
this guide has everything you need in it to complete the game fully exept that it has one mistake in it. in the list of all the heart pieces there is one listed twice and one missing. heart piece 43 should be at rock spire island and to get it you need to defeat the boats in the area and haul up the treasure they leave. one of them is a heart piece. 4-0 out of 5 stars Well-done strategy guide
Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is not an easy game to write a strategy guide for, considering how very many tangents and extra features there are in the game. But this book succeeds pretty admirably, walking you throught the tough parts step-by-step.The charts that cover such things as where to find Heart Pieces and Treasure Maps are especially helpful. The only problem with the book is that in a few places, it directs you to use more difficult methods than necessary to accomplish tasks - for example, it might tell you to use water jars to cool off lava to make a footpath (hard to do and usually gets you burned a few times) when you can simply use your grappling hook to swing across the lava with no problem. But overall, this book is pretty much a must for anyone with a Zelda: Wind Waker game. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Arthur's in trouble now!
This is a great book to teach kids what happens when you break the rules. Arthur's mom tell him he can't play his new computer game while she's gone. But the game is really cool, and he doesn't mean to play it, exactly, just show it to Buster. But, as you might guess, things don't work out that way. Arthur is convinced he has broken the computer. D. W. worries that they will now be homeless, and it will all be his fault. But Mom is able to fix the computer and they all learn a lesson about following the rules.Read more
