this book came out in 1979..the end of the 70's.....the end of frog and toad......this book is truly a classic....the 5 stories take me back to when i was 12 years old......i grew up with frog and toad along with the marshall family on land of the lost...and fonzie and ritchie on happy days.........and luke and c3po and r2d2 of star wars.....this book truly is not dated...it's as fresh today as it was in 1979......the last story.."alone"........i really felt it being 12......... ....

4-0 out of 5 stars Frog and Toad are an amazing buy
I have a 3 year old daughter that LOVES this series. The art is very "old" -but in a good way.She likes the story "The Shivers" most of all.You can't beat this series for the price, or the lessons learned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review by Alaisiah P.S. 39 and Michael P.S. 39
You should read Frog and Toad because they can teach kids a lot of lessons. For example, if you are a kid and you want to learn to be nice to a friend then Days with Frog and Toad is a really good book for you. You'll also learn that sometimes friends aren't nice to each other. So, if you're the kind of reader who wants to learn about relationships then this is a book for you to read.

I read about this book in EW and immediately went online to buy it.The topic sounded so refreshing.I tore through this book in about half the time it takes me to read a book of this length.I know this sounds cliche, but this was truely laugh out loud funny.I woke up my wife on numerous occasions laughing as I read long after she has fallen asleep in bed.
4-0 out of 5 stars If you like Freaks and Geeks...
A whimsical murder mystery wrapped up in a music-obsessed episode of Freaks and Geeks. Engaging, clever, and often very funny. You don't have to be part of the teen/young adult audience to enjoy it, either. (I'm 31). 4.25/5.

5-0 out of 5 stars STUPENDOUS!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Differences are what make the world so great
Charlie and Isabelle are the same age but they have some differences. For example, Charlie is tall and Isabelle is short, and whereas Charlie runs fast, Isabelle likes to take her time. The last difference that Charlie explains is when he tells us: "I know a lot of words.Isabelle's words are sometimes hard for me to understand."In the text of "My Friend Isabelle," author Eliza Woloson never comes out and says that Isabelle has Down syndrome and I was thinking that any indication of her condition in Bryan Gough's illustrations might well be too subtle for young children to pick up.But then it occurred to me that if a parent was reading this book to young children, or let them read it on their own, and then there was probably already a child with Down syndrome in the family or in the neighborhood.
5-0 out of 5 stars "My Friend Isabelle"
"My Friend Isabelle" is a book that ALL parents should have on their bookshelf. It celebrates the relationship between two children who are different from one another. It is an important book because today's classrooms are becoming more and more diverse. This book is a great tool to introduce these differences.I have been waiting for a book like "My Friend Isabelle".Thank you Ms. Woloson for being so insightful.

5-0 out of 5 stars The World Has Needed This Book for Some Time.
I can't praise this book enough. The illustrations and straightforward story line appeal to children while the message is one all aldults need to see.As the mother of a Down Syndrome child, I was overjoyed at how clearly the message came through that Down Syndrome kids are kids first. They enjoy all the usual childhood activities and enjoy friendships with thier non-Downs peers as well.I plan on purchasing this book for our local public library and our elementary school library as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Money, Comics, and Kids
Do you like money? Do you wonder how other people make money? Then I have the perfect book for you. It's called Lunch Money. It's by Andrew Clements. This book is about a money-holic sixth grader named Greg Kenton who LOVES money. He still wants more money, though. So he decides to make little handmade comics called Chunky Comics. But one day Maura Shaw, his enemy, copies his idea! Greg and Maura get into a lot of yelling fights. WATCH OUT! It gets physical! I'm sure you'll love this book because it will make you laugh out loud! So hurry and go to a bookstore or Library and get Lunch Money!

5-0 out of 5 stars You HAVE to read this!
Out of all the books I have read, this one was defidently a winner! It's a wonderful book about a boy (Greg ),Who loves money! And he's determind to sell his little comic books at school! But when he starts selling them he comes upon many problem! This is defidently a MUST read!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Book About Money
I read an interesting book named Lunch Money written by Andrew Clemets and illustrated by Brian Selznick. There are four main chichters. First is Greg Kenton he loves money and will do anything for it. Next is Maraw Shaw she likes to copy Gregs ideas for money. The tow last are Mr.Zenoupoulas or known as Mr.Z. Last over all is Mrs.Davenport or known as Mrs.D. There both teachers but Mrs.D is the principal of Gregs school. The biggest and best mesage of the story is not to be greedy or a hog.

My Children are 15 months old and we read this one almost every night. It's a sweet rhyming story with a happy ending!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming book!
I love this book and so does my 3 year old boy.The story is adventurous and has a nice, subtle ecological lesson. It also has a lesson about how you can be little but still accomplish great things. The pictures are gorgeous. The whole story rhymes and has such a nice rhythm.

4-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book
Mum's opinion: The Snail and the Whale is a delight to read with the rhyming text and adventurous journey around the world. To pick two creatures so totally different in every respect is pure genius and works like a dream. Not sure who got the most pleasure from this--me reading it or the little one listening.

Editorial Review

Forced to leave her sunny Caribbean home for the bleak Connecticut Colony, Kit Tyler is filled with trepidation. As they sail up the river to Kit's new home, the teasing and moodiness of a young sailor named Nat doesn't help. Still, her unsinkable spirit soon bobs back up. What this spirited teenager doesn't count on, however, is how her aunt and uncle's stern Puritan community will view her. In the colonies of 1687, a girl who swims, wears silk and satin gowns, and talks back to her elders is not only headstrong, she is in grave danger of being regarded as a witch. When Kit befriends an old Quaker woman known as the Witch of Blackbird Pond, it is more than the ascetics can take: soon Kit is defending her life. Who can she count on as she confronts these angry and suspicious townspeople? Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A bewitching story
This is one of my favorite books. I first read this book while in middle school and have re-read it so many times that I can recite some of the passages! The story of the girl who leaves her island home and must adjust to the harsh New England environment struck a chord with me, as I was a military kid and always moving from place to place. This story is about a girl who finds herself in a new environment that goes against everything she has ever learned or experienced, and she must learn who she is in order to survive this new land. It's also a romance story, and an intriguing story that shows what can happen when people become so closed-minded about what is "right" and "proper" that they refuse to look past a person's supposed subversive actions in order to really see or understand that person.Highly recommended reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent message!
What a wonderfully written, beautiful story! I love it more and more each time I read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Beutifully written story for all ages.
I was given "A Snowman Named Just Bob" as a present last Thanksgiving and was so touched by the beautiful message of how simple friendship is to start that I bought 15 more for Christmas presents for family and friends! The story is heartwarming and the illustrations are beautiful. I have since purchased 4 more of author Moulton's titles and each is as delightful as the other. I intend to buy every book Mark Kimball Moulton writes!

2-0 out of 5 stars short on story, long on sentimentality -- in the BAD sense
I am VERY confused by the multiple great reviews and 5-star ratings. The text is horrid, and I was surprised to see that the author has written a number of books. This is like an early Hallmark card, the poetry is not good -- "Friendship is a simple thing, The clue is just to start, As long as it is built on trust, And love from in your heart". Nice idea, but do you want to read 30+ pages of this? There is no story and apparently the only reason to own and enjoy this book is if you know someone named Bob. But the thing is, I know some Bobs, and they deserve a better book than this! Who is Bob? What makes him tick? What does Bob the magical snowman ever do in this book besides tell you to remember him?Read more

Editorial Review

The offbeat style of this wonderful story--and of Julie Vivas'sperfectly matched illustrations--couldn't be summed up better than by the oddness of the first sentence: "There was once a small boy called Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge and what's more he wasn't very old either." Wilfrid lives next to a retirement home, filled with folks like "Mrs. Jordan who played the organ" and "Mr. Hosking who told him scary stories."But his favorite old person is 96-year-old Miss Nancy. Everyone says Miss Nancy has lost her memory, and despite the fact that Wilfrid doesn't even know what a memory is, by accident he helps her find it. Mem Fox's original take on the capacity of children to help the old remember is especially notable for its non-patronizing focus on old people. (Ages 4 to 8) Read more

Mem Fox fans are a livid crew.If you've ever met one then I think you might know what I mean. When you meet a Mem Fox fan, it is more than likely that you may find yourself grabbed bodily as your arms start to fill with Mem Fox book after Mem Fox book.Mem Fox fans love her work and are quick to recommend everything she's done in a thrice. If you should feel like giving in and reading her works, then let me recommend that you begin with the delightful, "Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge".A touching tale of a boy and his elderly friend, the book explores the nature of memory itself in a way that children can understand.2-0 out of 5 stars feel-good book

What a great book. Timeless. Highly Recommend for children and adults. Right up there with the great works of Dr. Seuss. And don't forget to get The Missing Piece Meets the Big O.
1-0 out of 5 stars This Book Is A Paean To Divorce/Splits.
Written by the author and divorcee, Shel Silverstein, this book trys to instill, via allegory, the idea that a permanent split or divorce is unquestionably good. Although this story can be read as a lamentable opinion of the author on the union of couples, it can be also read as a story of an abusive relationship wherein one of the partners in the union is controlling to the point that the other partner cannot stop to talk to friends, smell the flowers or act in any independent manner. Whatever the author meant to convey when he wrote this book, 'The Missing Piece,' it is at best a gloomy read, if not an outright pessimistic one.

I think this book is for all readers young to old or beginner to experienced. They will all have fun reading this book. This book is about a part of a circle who can't find his missing piece. So I had this crazy idea: I'm going to read the Newberry Awards books. I was at my fiancé's school and they had a poster of past Newberry Award books and I had this epiphany: I was going to take some time and just read great young adult books!
4-0 out of 5 stars Teamwork Pays Off
I really liked this book because it was about different kids that worked together to meet a common goal. The characters were kids that I could relate to, and the plot moved along so you won't get bored. I would like to read other books by this writer and see if they are as good.

This is the second middle grade book by Konigsburg that I've read. She's such a wonderful writer.

After the disappointed g.g book # 3 This book (The fourth one) comes out it's so good. It's good like the first book was. Alot of things happen that are shocking like Nate gets busted in the park and Blair has an affair with a married man! Wow it was good. But the thing I hate about this book is Dan and Vanessa. Anything with them I quickly read through. It's so boring until Dan cheats on her with Mystery Craze. Also he's becoming very arrogant just like the rest of the characters in this book and I hate that! His sister Jenny has a lesbian affair too. I didn't see that one coming. It's all too juicy to put down.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite
This is the third gossip girl novel. So far out of reading all of them so far, this is my favorite. I like the plot that Jenny and all the characters were into. They live the perfect lives and it's just hilarious to see what they're going to be doing next.

5-0 out of 5 stars Elsa Beskow books are classic and warm
We love all of her books and buy them 1 at a time as we can afford them. In an age of big in your face pop up books and childrens books that make your eyes hurt these books are a wonderful find. As always the illustrations are beautiful with one big picture per page and the words on the opposite page. I read all the reviews first but few had actual specifics about the actual invdividual stories, so that's what I've done here. I hope it helps others know what wonderful books they are. I wish they were easier to find in Canada. Anyhow this is one of our latest purchases, It's about 2 boys Woody and Little Pip that are supposed to go out and gather acorns for the coming winter. It's very windy and they decide to go for a ride on the leaves that are being tossed high in the air, but the wind carries them far away and they crash in on some old women gnomes who are doing the wash of gnome beards. Pipand Woody end up having to deliver all the dried beards back to their owners. In the meantime Mrs. Acorn their mom is getting worried... along comes Mr. Squirrel who offers to go in search of them. Off he goes but doesn't realize little Hazel is hiding in his tail. He searches for the boys but has to stop and ddrop off hazel on toadstool as she is too dizzy to continue. 4-0 out of 5 stars Gossip Girl in General
I find the gossip girl books to be very entertaining. They fit around the same area as The Clique (which are entertaining, but let's face it, the girls have stupid 'non-problems') only for an older set. All of the books live up to expectations of the rest. I think that all of the characters are interesting and the story line keeps you guessing and entertained.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad
This book is so bad! This is the fifth book out of gossip girl and alot of things in this book are so bad that I have to skip alot of pages. I don't care about Dan and Vanessa anymore. Too boring and even worse when Vanessa's parents show up. Nate's girl friend is too retarded and too unbelievable to believe, and the gay snowboarding team? Are you kidding me? Why does Chuck of all guys become gay all of a sudden? It doesn't make any sense! I hate the character Rusty and I really hate Jenny. Snooping on her boyfriend like that all the time and that's all that happens with her in this book. Jennys friend Elise and Dan kiss. That was really stupid. This whole book is stupid and makes no sense. I loved gossip girls until this fifth one came out.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best
I have been hooked on the Gossip Girl series since the first book and I have currently read up to the fifth, I Like it Like That, but honestly, I wouldn't have mind skipping it. I thought this book was a little bit predictable and boring. Jenny is my least favorite character because, is it just me or does she seems like she goes after guys that are rich and handsome? After she finds out Leo is "normal" she dumps him. It seemed to me that he had a nice personailty and that should have been enough. The last book I was so hooked on the Vanessa & Dan relastionship, but this one I was actually skipping the chapters about them. Blair & Serena have always been my favorites, and that is what saved this book. Their adventures in Sun Valley was the best part and never really was boring in my opinon. Also GG [Gossip Girl] saved this book as well. Her entries are always funny and interesting to look at. Some people say that Cecily von Ziegsar writes using profound words such as the "f" word. Well I have to say that im a teenager to and to be honest, that is how most teens talk. Cecily really captured the life of a teenager well with the stress on schools [im 13 and picking a HIGH school is tough for me, think about college], also sex and drugs. I know people that are much younger than Blair and Serena and have more experience with these things than all of the characters put together. And also family troubles, because every family has them right? Her choice of words are accurate and theres nothing wrong with that, and besides in the fifth book she hardly swears if ever, I wasn't paying much attention to that. Overall though, this book wasn't the best, but the series is! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Clementine is a good friend, indeed.
Clementine is a good friend. She goes out of her way to help her friend, Margaret. She cuts off all Margaret's hair in an attempt to "fix" Margaret's own efforts that left a bald patch. She even colors Margaret's hair Flaming Sunset and draws curls to make Margaret feel good about herself. Finally, Clementine asks Margaret to color Clementine's hair green just to make Margaret feel like she's fitting in.

I have a bad habit when I read a book. If I'm reading a children's book (which, 19 out of 20 times is usually the case) and I hit on a passage that I think is especially amusing, I'll dog-ear the page. I know, I know. I'm a children's librarian. If ANYONE knows not to dog-ear pages it should be me. So to stop myself from this habit I've only been dog-earing the Advanced Readers Copies of books I review. Usually this isn't a problem. Then I read, "Clementine". I blame Sara Pennypacker personally for the fact that what was once a lovely little ARC is now a dog-eared-to-death series of bound pages. Sorry, Sara, but how could I help it? We're dealing with a book where if the infant brother of the main character says, "Go for a wok?" to her, he's referring to a game in which she puts him in the family's wok and spins him around real fast. I mean, how am I supposed to resist that? What we have here is one of the most amusing characters to grace the pages of children's literature in years. Engaging, mischevious, never ever dull, and topped off by illustrations by Marla Frazee, Pennypacker's early chapter book, "Clementine", is everything you could hope for in a story for kids. Finally, a character that can challenge Ramona Quimby for her throne.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tigers, Family and Friendship Conquer All
Do you like big cats? How about discovering secrets? If you do, I have a book for you! It's called, The Tiger Rising by Kate diCamillo. The book begins when a lonely and unhappy boy, Rob, discovers a tiger in the woods behind the motel where he and his father live. Rob has to figure out whose tiger it is. When he discovers the tiger belongs to the mean, grouchy and greedy motel owner, Rob concocts a plan. What will he do? You have to read the book to find out. I'm Laura, and I recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, family and making difficult decisions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Superb but somber
This is an extremely well-written story in every regard, and would appeal to even adult readers. It is, however, a serious and downright sad story, and is not as magical as the author's latest works, a fact which may disappoint some.

1-0 out of 5 stars The exception to the Dicamillo rule
This book is really a departure from the fantastic writing I'm used to from Kate Dicamillo. While it's similar in some ways to "Because of Winn Dixie", it fails to create a bond between the reader and the book's characters. I kept thinking the story would take a turn and grab my attention, or sympathy, or anything to make me care about what is happening to these characters, but it never happened. Fabulous author, bad book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief - Book One
Have you ever wandered what happened to the Greek gods and their children? This book will explain it all. This book called the Lightning Thief, shows every angle of what happened to Percy (who got kicked out of hiss boarding school), Annabeth, and Grover to find Zeus's Lightning Bolt that someone stole. I would recommend this book to people who like Greek mythology and has special powers (for example Percy has a water power. He has a special ability to breathe in the water).
5-0 out of 5 stars The Lighting Thief
Percy is going to bi kicked out of boarding school again, but that is not his trouble. The trouble is that mythological monsters and the gods of mount Olympus are coming into his life. And the worst of all Zeus the king of the gods is blaming Percy for the theft of his master bolt.
