4-0 out of 5 stars Charming as always
I have been a Fredrick fan since childhood and still read it today when I get stressed, so always looking to have my kids find the same connection with the Lionni works.Got this and 2 of them were bored, but my 4 year old was different. She listened intently and has for months been making diffent associations on how things mix or work together for an end "just like little blue and little yellow".Perhaps she is the most like me, poor thing! It is in the same vein as the others but less obvious, which is not neccessarily a bad thing.Encouraging thought and imagination requires careful writing and too many modern stories spoonfeed the moral.I accept and encourage my 4 yr olds interpretations!

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great book!
To an adult, this book doesn't seem like anything all that special. It's about colored dots. The story is sweet, though, and easy for young children to appreciate. My multi-age 3-5 year old classroom loved it (I used it with our science unit on colors). It's great for talking about color (blue and yellow make green) and about appreciating differences (race).
5-0 out of 5 stars My most memorable book
Ask me what my favorite book was when I was growing up and that answer is going to be Little Blue and Little Yellow. Sure, there were other books that I'd read over and over again, or sit in the library with a stack of em on a Friday afternoon after school, but none was like Little Blue and Little Yellow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for church library
I am a Lutheran Church librarian in Florida who bought this book for our church library. It stresses that though we may have different traits and characteristics we are all worthy of love, respect and human dignity. It discusses a mentally-challenged little boy and how he can be a good playmate even though he is a little slow.So what?He is still a persdon worthy of dignity and acceptance. This book stresses kindness on a personal level and a live-and-let-live attitude. This is a vital life lesson for our children to learn early on, and is a great conversation starter. This book will help cut down on bullying, marginalization and dehumanization of the mentally and physically challenged among us.After all, who among us doesnot have some sort of shortcoming?Children need to know that perfection is an impossibility and so they should expect people to do the best job they can but not expect perfection in themselves or others. The illustrations appear to be done in pastels and are very attractive.Great Job, Maria!Keep them coming!

5-0 out of 5 stars What's Wrong With Timmy?
Just as with What's Heaven, this story has Kate as well.I think every parent that has a child with special needs would hope that friendship and acceptance would come as quickly to them as it does to Timmy in What's Wrong With Timmy?
2-0 out of 5 stars What's wrong with the author?
This book is a real nightmare for children with disabilities. Maria Shriver does attempt to impart the message that nothing is wrong at all- unfortunately, she's already planted the seed in the young minds of her readers with the mere title of the book. She then spends an exhaustive twenty pages trying to be sure she'd convinced them of it.I'd recommend "Russ and the Almost Perfect Day" by Janet Elizabeth Rickert instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Notes From the Midnight Driver
Home alone, 16-year-old Alex Gregory, enraged over his parent's separation and fuming about his dad's involvement with Alex's former 3rd grade teacher, gets drunk and sets off in his mom's car to confront his father and "that woman."He doesn't get far, but he's lucky. The only victims of the resultant accident are a decapitated French lawn gnome and the cop he barfs on when he's arrested.
5-0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Come ride along with Alex.Frustrated by his parent's divorce, Alex "borrows" his mother's car to pay a surprise visit to his father, who just happens to be dating Alex's former third-grade teacher. To work up the courage for this visit, Alex has had a bit too much to drink. His midnight drive ends in the neighbor's yard and involves a decapitated lawn gnome and vomit on a police officer's shoes.
5-0 out of 5 stars Richie's Picks: NOTES FROM THE MIDNIGHT DRIVER
"You would think I'd have been pretty scared by this point, but because I had drunk so much vodka so fast, I was still getting drunker by the second. Even with my hands cuffed behind my back -- and the cuffs were REALLY tight, because the officer hadn't been enjoying me much so far -- I was like a little one-man house party in the back seat of the cruiser. The last thing I remember was getting bored of the dispatch radio, and shouting, 'Change the station! Get me some ROCK!' "

4-0 out of 5 stars Great story of friendship, art, and puns, too!
This terrific book recounts the rivalry and eventual friendship of Picasso and Matisse, er, ah, excuse me...I meant, Pigasso and Mootisse. The protagonists in this story live across the street from each other and first hurl insults like,"You paint like a wild beast", (that's called "fauvism" for all you art lovers or snobs out there!) while Mootisse retorts, "You are pig-headed".Throughout, the paint and puns fly.

5-0 out of 5 stars A sequel to the classic
Lisa's bear Corduroy gets lost in the laundromat.Lisa looks for him but the manager must close up for the night. Then Corduroy goes on his adventures. It's a very good picture book for children 3-6.

5-0 out of 5 stars More adventures with Lisa's very own bear. . .
In this installment of Corduroy's adventures with Lisa, we see that some time has passed since she first brought him home from the department store. She's taller, wearing her hair a little straighter, and her mom looks like she had a makeover, too.Corduroy, however, is wearing the same green overalls he did in the first book and has managed to keep both buttons on this time.Early on in the book, however, Corduroy decides he needs a pocket, and in the search for one gets separated from Lisa and her mom while they are in the laundromat. They leave without him, setting him up for a meeting with a friendly stranger who washes his overalls for him, as well as encounters with such laundromat staples as powder detergent and pushcarts. 5-0 out of 5 stars Read to Your Child to Create Bonding and Intellect
Researchers constantly find that reading to children is valuable in a variety of ways, not least of which are instilling a love of reading and improved reading skills. With better parent-child bonding from reading, you child will also be more emotionally secure and able to relate better toothers.Intellectual performance will expand as well.Spending timetogether watching television fails as a substitute. 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read out loud!
This is a great book if you have small children. They love it because it's fun to read out loud and it isn't so long that you get out of breath. This is a must have that I enjoy reading over and over again and my little ones never get tired of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a Classic
I loved this book as a child, and now my daughter loves it, too.A really good lesson; we don't always get what we want in life, and sometimes that's for the best.Beautiful illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Self concensus at work
An email friend used the term "self consensus" to describe the process by which we start with a known person- ourselves- and move in small steps away from that to construct our image of another person we know via email. This book is a good illustration of that idea.

3-0 out of 5 stars Secret Recipe
I would recommend Granny Torrelli Makes Soup to someone who enjoys books that deal with life, friendship and especially soup. I think that the protagonist Rosie is jealous because Bailey who is blind, gets all the attention. I thought that this book was okay because I couldn't understand some of the words. The author of this book is Sharon Creech. Another book I will probably read by this author is, Absolutely Normal Chaos.

Truly disappointing. This book, though well-intentioned, falls short of what I find to be compelling YA writing. There is a sense of illogic in this book and "over-writing" in many of the scenes within.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you can look past the agenda . . .
I read Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes when I was taking a young adult literature class in college.I'd just finished reading Chinese Handcuffs, also by Crutcher, and even though I'm not interested in sports at all, I really enjoyed it.Feeling in the mood for some more angst, but wary of the emphasis on sports in a lot of his books, I decided swimming would be an interesting sport to read about and picked up Staying Fat.It wasn't bad.In fact, it was very similar to other books of Crutcher's I've read in that it deals with sports and angst.
5-0 out of 5 stars Two Teen's Couragous Battles Because ofBeing VeryDifferent.
When I began the book, I felt like it was going to be just some teen complaining because life isn't perfect. However, Eric was couragous and well beyond his years because he accepted himself completely.Beyond the teasing and tormenting that his peers gave him was a growing deep confidence in himself.
5-0 out of 5 stars Can I get an extra star?
I'm an ELA teacher. This is one of my favorite YA novels. After you get comfortable with the main character and hisrelationship with Sarah Byrnes, it's impossible to put this book down. The characters are new/strange and well defined. The issues are a bit heavy as is the language, so I'd keep it at 14 or older.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Good Book
This is an excellent book, with a solid, fairly executed mystery at its core, set against the backdrop of an equally intriguing historical mystery (is Shakespeare really the author of Shakespeare's plays?). A winner in every regard.

4-0 out of 5 stars Forsooth!
Shakespeare's Secret is a brisk middle-grade mystery with a simple premise: a sixth-grade girl learns that the house her family has just moved into may be hiding a million-dollar diamond. That idea alone is worthy of a good kid lit mystery, but the diamond didn't belong to just anybody - it was a de Vere family heirloom - as in Edward de Vere, the man some scholars believe may be the real author behind the works commonly attributed to William Shakespeare.
4-0 out of 5 stars A Mystery to Get Kids Thinking
This book is about a girl named Hero (named after a character in Much Ado About Nothing), who moves to a small town near Washington, DC. There, Hero becomes embroiled in a mystery involving a missing diamond and a potential link between Anne Boleyn and Edward De Vere (thought by many to be the true, secret author of Shakespeare's plays). I enjoyed the historical detail of this book, and also the strong friendship that develops between Hero and the older woman who lives next door, Mrs. Roth.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Spectacular Story!
I really enjoyed this story!!Hart Evans is a very popular sixth grade student at Palmer Intermediate. One afternoon he found himself landed in the principal's office after deciding to launch rubber bands at Mr. Meinert, the chorus director. After some convincing, the principal decided on a light punishment for Hart. This angered Mr. Meinert and therefore led to his decision to turn the Holiday concert planning over to his students. After all, Mr. Meinert had nothing to lose; his position would be terminated after the holiday break due to budget cuts.
4-0 out of 5 stars The Last Holiday Concert
I would recommend this book to boys or girls around the age of 10. This book is very good. I enjoyed reading it. I like the way Andrew Clements writes, and I know all of my friends do too. It may be a little confusing to people younger then 10, but it is a great book and I encourage people to read it.

Mr. Meinert's job was about to end.He was the sixth grade chorus director. Hart Evans, a student, shot a rubber band at Mr. Meinert but he didn't mean to. All he was trying to do is get attention by shooting a rubber band to the ceiling. Hart thought chorus was boring. Mr. Meinert got fed up with bad behavior. He put the kids in charge of the upcoming concert. The concert was going to be a holiday concert. They had an election to see who would be in charge of the concert. The students could pick anybody in the room.Hart Evans was chosen. It was a rough start. There was a big variety of performance ideas to choose from. They had to vote again for what they were going to do for the concert. They finally picked. They did some pretty interesting performances!

5-0 out of 5 stars Losers Inc. Review
My name is Max Mordini. About 3-4 weeks ago I stumbled onto a book that I bought a year or two ago called Losers Inc. The book looked interesting and I decided to read it. After I read the first fifteen pages I was already hooked and I wanted to see what would happen throughout the rest of the book. I will now give you a summary of the book.
