5-0 out of 5 stars Completly perfect
I picked up this book for some light lunch reading while I was at my job at a bookstore.I was devestated when I had to put it back and get back to work!At the end of the day when I thought about having to wait until I was at work again to finish, I bought this along with Dragon's Breath and Once Upon a Curse.I read them all in two days!
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for girls of all ages!
My daughter checked this book out at the library...I think she was attracted to the pink cover and little crown on the spine (looked like princess stuff to her). She is only 4, but she sits through chapter books with or without pictures, so I read it to her. I was very impressed by the unique and unpredictable situations. The story is perfect for girls around 9 - 13 who may be in an awkward stage in life.It gives strength to girls as Emma, the main character, over comes her fears, uses her intelligence, and learns a lot about herself during the fanciful adventure. It only took a week to read it to my daughter (record time for us) and what did my 4 year old say when we finished the last page?"Let's read it again!"And ya know what, I am enjoying it as much the second time around as I did the first!

5-0 out of 5 stars THIS IS AWESOME!!!
This book is soooooo cool! I didn't want it to end! I LOVE how Emma is a witch and a princess! Eadric is cool too. And Li'l! Can't forget about Li'l! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A reverse story with a happily ever after ending.
Jon Scieszka, author, has a way of twisting a fairy tale around and truly making it his own.The frog prince is tired of being nagged by his princess about hopping around on furniture and having lily pads in his pocket, he just wants to be a frog again and live happily ever after. The frog prince sets off on an adventure and goes from witch to witch (witches from other fairy tales) begging for them to turn him into a frog again. He comes upon a witch who finally tries but fails, turning him into a frog carriage. At the stroke of midnight the frog prince changes back to a prince and runs home to kiss his beautiful priness who he loves so much (only because he thought he was going to live out the rest of his life as a carriage in the scary woods). He kisses her and....well, I don't want to give away the creative ending. The illustrations are a bit dark but creative and effective to the sadness in the beginning of the story and woods through-out the rest.

4-0 out of 5 stars Frog Prince Continued-06
And they all lived happily ever after........or not. The frog prince continued happens after the marriage of the frog prince and the beautiful princess. However life in the kingdom is not so magical. They fight they bicker, he whines she nags and now the frog prince wants nothing more than to become a frog again. So he sets off through the forest to find the witch who can turn him back into a frog. He meets many interesting witches along the way and finally one who can make him a frog, but is that really what he wants? Or does he wish he was with the princess again?

5-0 out of 5 stars FOR ANYONE WHO EVER TOOK A WALK WITH A KID
I truely enjoyed this one, both in it's reading and visually. The little girl in the story is so very, very typical of children her age, both girls and boys, that you are bound to see one of your children, or as in my case, children and grandchildren, in her.The text is rhyming in nature and is quite catching. This is one of those books you must read and see several times. Each time I read it to a child or a class I (and they children) see something new in the illustrations which are quite detailed for such a simple work.As an added bonus, dog lovers will love this one too as the little pup in the story is just about as cute as the little girl.Recommend this one very highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
We love this book! Great gift for girls of all ages! It is more about the princess inside of you then about being into frills, lace, and fairies. So cute and funny!

5-0 out of 5 stars An engaging and recommended picturebook story
Mike Gordon's large and appealing drawings adeptly illustrate an engaging and recommended picturebook story of a princess and her father who wander through the woods observing wonders. Scary woods encounters such as bees and dragons are revealed as a father tells his daughter what might be encountered in a woods walk - or not.

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully illustrated fairy tale
My husband and I both read this to our boys without the other knowing it. We later commented on the fact that it's our favorite fairy tale. The pictures are beautifully-illustrated and with fine details. The story itself is beautifully-written and entertaining for our little boys. It is a keeper in our collection!5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully illustrated escape from reality

5-0 out of 5 stars A Gorgeous Original Fairy Tale
Frankly, before I read this book to my daughter I was prepared not to like it. Hmmm, another preachy pansy-pants rewrite of a classic story to give it a moral with a capital M? However, I was pleasantly blown away by the lovely, luminous artwork -- and, even better, by the story. Far from just sanitizing the Frog Prince fable, Berenzy has managed to create an original story with all the horror and wonder of a great fairy tale. The scary parts are quite thrillingly SCARY, and the frog's quest is told in nicely poetic language. The illustrations are eye-popping and humorous by turns, and measure up to the likes of Kinuko Craft and Gennady Spirin.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Real Charmer!
Everyone knows the story of the Frog Prince, and the idea of "kissing a frog to make a prince" is a well-loved verse around the world. But did you ever think that the spoilt Princess, who first broke her promise to the frog who rescued her ball and then threw him across the room in disgust before he changed into a prince was a little undeserving of her happily ever after? (Some versions of the story have the princess kissing the frog to change him back, but the throwing against the wall is the original and correct tale).5-0 out of 5 stars Oh Mommy, Read it Again!
Is what our daughter exclaimed after we read her this book for the first time. The illustrations are Chris Van Allsburg (SP?) quality, the pace is just right for an attentive 3 to 4 year old. The frog keeps a steady moral high ground in both thought and deed while searching for the princess who is right for him. The end is quite a surprize, if only because of our preconceptions of the standard frog prince tale. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars De Fawg Pin
This was a charming story, and very well written. It was very funny, too.I was not irritated by Pin's speech, as Jade always understands, and repeats what he says in a normal tongue.I loved this story, until it came to the end when a princess picks up Pin and kisses him, transforming him into a prince again. That ruins the story, and it didn't have to end that way.I would have rated this 5 stars if it had not ended like that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hysterical, Sweet, Informative -- Wonderful!
I am agog at the reviews that complain about Pin's speech being annoying, or the biology lesson feel of the book.My kids (5 and 7) and I loved this poignant story of acceptance: acceptance of others' differences, of one's changing circumstances. They laughed themselves silly as Pin outwitted the pond's predators.I was incredibly touched by the lessons learned by both Pin and Jade as they got to know each other better. We never found the information the story conveyed to be heavy-handed or intrusive. It is one of the most imaginative books I've read in a long time.Beautiful illustrations and beautiful characters. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars From the first page, the ripple of words will pull you under, and not release you until the last page has been turned
Emma Pennington has been accustomed to a wealthy, comfortable life for as long as she can remember. She has never had to succumb to suffering, or been forced to work for the luxuries she has been shrouded in. And, while war is raging all around her, in the seclusion of her parents glamorous estate, she feels no different, give or take the sound of a gunshot or bomb exploding here or there. But then things change drastically. Young, beautiful Emma, and her mother travel from their home in Britain to their palatial estate in Belgium where they feel they will be safer, and will have less to worry about. However, upon their arrival, they see that the war is raging even closer in proximity in this location, and that they have placed themselves in grave danger by traveling this distance. Now, as enemy troops have claimed the estate as their own, Emma finds herself alone, with no family there to reach out to, and no way to escape from harms way. Now, the once material-obsessed Emma must focus her attention on saving herself from the danger that surrounds her in every nook and cranny, and that threatens her very existence, in an attempt to keep herself alive long enough to give her father, who is still faraway in Britain, the truth about what has happened to their beloved estate, and their once tight-knit family; while at the same time try and come to terms with the feelings of love she is experiencing towards Jack, a very peculiar man who is posing as her husband, in an attempt to keep the enemy at arms length.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightful teamwork for my son and me
I think this "We Both Read" series is great.Whatever mood my boy is in when bedtime rolls around - whether he's working with me or against me - this concept works.I read the (difficult) left page in each two page spread, and the child reads the (easy) right. Teamwork. And even though these make no mention of Power Rangers or Batman Beyond, these are my boy's favorites. Along with some math books from Singapore(sgbox.com), and a learn-to-read series called "Now I'm Reading" by Nora Gaydos, these books are a great experience for your child. After your child has finished reading and they climb in bed, give your child something to strive for... turn on your booklight, turn off the room lights, and read your child a chapter or two from a more advanced book. Treasure Island, Harry Potter, anything by Roald Dahl...That's what works for my boys and I.

5-0 out of 5 stars a simple idea, with a touch of genius in it
This series of readers really works. I've been running through them at bedtime with my six-year-old, who adores taking it in turns with me to read her page after I've read mine. It turns reading into a collaborative game, with plenty of play-acting (doing the different voices of the characters)thrown in. At my daughter's stage of reading, a short book can be a longhaul, when she has to do it all by herself. The "We Both Read"books break up the text into manageable segments, and give her time-outwhile I do my share of the work. I'd like to see more and more titlesquickly added to the series. I am baffled as to why Amazon should inflict a$1.35 surcharge on the publisher's recommended price--it seems to runentirely counter to the Amazon way of doing things. But the booksthemselves are splendid. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, funny book
This is really a delightful book. The princess looks like a regular little girl, and she runs into a couple of very straightforward problems (ball in the pond, lost penny) and one very unusual problem (a bird on her daddy's head) with a very silly solution (a froggy on her daddy's head). The three short stories are easy to follow and my daughter has been a fan since she was 2 years old (now she is nearly 4).

5-0 out of 5 stars This book gets big belly laughs from my 4 year old
This book contains 3 short stories, each starring Princess and her best friend and savior, Froggie. Key phrases are repeated in each story, so my preschooler delights in joining in the story telling. We must have checked this book out from the library at least 10 times in the last year; it's her standby favorite! I like it, too, because it's not very long -- perfect for bedtime.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rather Morose

1-0 out of 5 stars The moral: Violence is the way to assert yourself
This book teaches kids that violence is the answer. I don't know who the phony feminist wacko is who wrote this garbage, but do yourself a favor and pick up an un-Bowdlerized copy of the Brothers Grimm fairytales. At least they have real life lessons in them. This "modern" take on the story is reprehensible.

2-0 out of 5 stars I would not read this book to my child
This modification of the classic tale of the ugly frog turned into a handsome prince lacks the charm of the original tale. It is true that the frog is eventually turned into a handsome prince by the actions of a princess and they live happily ever after. However, the princess made a promise to the frog when he retrieved her golden ball and she had to be commanded to keep that promise. In a fit of frustration she hurls the frog against the wall and it is this action that turns him into a prince.
1-0 out of 5 stars The Frog Prince
This re-tooling of a classic might amuse children, and since they're the target audience... maybe it's not as bad as I think.I think it's pretty bad, though.

This is a great book for summer! It's mostley just fun, but it does touch on responsibility too (but not so it seems like you're getting a lesson).I'd recommend it to anyone, but especially boys, who are begining to read chapter books. There are a couple pictures in each chapter, which also make it a fun book. ...
