Rebecca Estelle hates pumpkins. "What's not to like?" you may be thinking. Certainly, pumpkins are benign, as far as gourds go, and they make for delicious pies. But if you were forced to eat Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great story about giving and letting go.
Linda White, the author, did a superb job of telling this story, which was inspired by her aunt during the days of the depression. An elderly woman, Rebecca Estelle, loves her garden. She enjoys planting her flowers and food for the year with her pet cat as her company. Rebecca hates pumpkins because her family had to eat nothing but that for years when they were poor. She has vowed to never even look at another pumpkin again, but her kindness takes over and as the story unravels she realizes that pumpkins hold a special place in her heart. Adorably detailed pictures with a great feeling of autumn and fall days.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This is a good book to share with kids in the Fall.I read this to my kids once and they were hooked.Ages 4-8 is right on target with this book.I did give this one as a gift to a five year old girl who has a birthday in the Fall and we were told that she loved it. When her parent's took her pumpking picking she kept talking about story in this book.My kids did the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic fall book.
Too Many Pumpkins really captures the fall/Halloween mood. The illustrations are marvelous--I love the look of the exploding pumpkins, and the cat's colors and expressions are perfect!Descriptions detailing all the pumpkin dishes the woman makes add to the feeling, and I loved seeing all her jack-o-lanterns!The townspeople really seem like ordinary people anyone could run into--I especially like the dad in the down jacket and his young child.

5-0 out of 5 stars My children are enchanted, amused and QUIET!
I purchased this CD prior to a family roadtrip last spring, having no prior exposure to Arnold Lobel, or Frog & Toad. My 6-year old son and 4-year old daughter were quick converts. They easily follow the stories, laugh at the absurdities of the characters' sweet friendship. They constantly requested it to be played in the car whenever we were out and about. Since then, we have also purchased "Mouse Tales" on CD, which they also adore. Intelligent, engaging, & fun.

1-0 out of 5 stars Does Not Include Read-Along Book
Because this item did not come with a companion book, it does not suit my family's needs. This is most disappointing. For the price, it should include a companion book.

Frog and Toad agreed: it was a perfect day for a swim. And Frog was kind enough not to look at Toad in his bathing suit, per Toad's request. But when the swimming was over, a crowd had gathered to see Toad in his funny-looking suit, and neither Frog nor Toad could make them leave. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars the beginning of a beautiful friendship.....
this book came out in 1970......it truly showed me what a really great childrens book should be.......the five stories are about friendship as it should be in real life but it's not......this will truly enlighten anyone who reads it...adult or child.......

4-0 out of 5 stars Endearing
This is a very sweet book. Some of the stories seem to not have point at the end, but that's probably because I'm looking at them from an adult female point of view.Other stories are endearing.A sweet, sweet book that teaches what it is to be a good friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars The simple but true-to-human-life stories and the drawings are a delight.
It's so wonderful to have a book that a very young child can read himself, and then ask the adult, or other reader, with whom he is sitting, for help with difficult words. When I was a kid, 65 years ago, we only read the simplest of books, with no real relationships, because we were expected to read them without help. Frog and Toad have it all over Dick and Jane!

4-0 out of 5 stars Frog and Toad are an amazing buy
I have a 3 year old daughter that LOVES this series. The art is very "old" -but in a good way.She likes the story "The Shivers" most of all.You can't beat this series for the price, or the lessons learned.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review by Alaisiah P.S. 39 and Michael P.S. 39
You should read Frog and Toad because they can teach kids a lot of lessons. For example, if you are a kid and you want to learn to be nice to a friend then Days with Frog and Toad is a really good book for you. You'll also learn that sometimes friends aren't nice to each other. So, if you're the kind of reader who wants to learn about relationships then this is a book for you to read.

"You know, Toad," said Frog with his mouth full, "I think we should stop eating. We will soon be sick." "You are right," said Toad. "Let us eat one last cookie, and then we will stop." Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel teaches the lesson that friends do things to make each other happy. The problem was Toad's hat didn't fit.So Frog sneaks into his house to shrink the hat and make him happy on his birthday. After Frog shrunk the hat, Toad didn't run into things or fall in holes. And if you love Frog and Toad Together you can also read Frog and Toad All Year.

Editorial Review

For fans of these famous amphibians, the continuation of Frog and Toad's saga gives a glimpse of what those rascals are up to all year long. They frolic together over four seasons, with a story for each celebration, plus one for Christmas. Glide down the snow-covered hill with Toad, hunt for spring with Frog, and discover just who is hiding under all that melted chocolate ice cream. Beginning readers will love the thrill of reading a chapter book by themselves; the simple language and unique adventures encourage and entertain those just entering the world of words. The endearing duo is depicted in the warmest of browns and softest of greens, reflecting the tender gentleness of their friendship. Children's bookshelves should be filled with all the classics in Arnold Lobel's series, including Read more

Editorial Review

"Tuesday evening, around eight"--a deceptively mundane beginning for what proves to be a thrilling, miraculous, and surreal amphibian journey. Slowly and quietly on this particular Tuesday, a few fat frogs begin hovering over a swamp, riding lily pads like magic carpets. Clearly satisfied and comfortable, the floating frogs are as serene as little green buddhas. Gradually, the flying fleet grows in momentum and number, sailing over the countryside and into an unsuspecting town. These frogs know how to have fun--startling the occasional bird, waving webbed feet at late-night snack-eaters, and even changing the channels on a sleeping granny's television. As day breaks, the frogs lose their lily pads, head back to the pond, and wait impatiently for their next scheduled departure.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for adults and kids
Flying frogs having fun.We all enjoy it.Hardly any words, but the incredible art jump starts imagination and sparks long conversations with my boys about what is happening on each page. For ages 3 on up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Charming and utterly deightful
David Wiesner's brilliant children's book Tuesday has long been one of my favorites illustrated books.Who else could bring such fantastic whimsy and realism to this genre. What makes the complexity of Wiesner's story all the more amazing is that he tells the tale only through images. As in some of his other works, there is no text...and yet the story is sweet, funny and joyous.I highly recommend this and his other book for folks who love art and imagination...He's right up there with Sendak and Van Allsburg!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for pre-readers, frog-lovers, and more
We love this little book.My 3-year-old can "read" it to herself now that we've read it together several times. We go through it and talk about all the pictures and she just giggles and giggles as I explain what is going on in them.I also get her perspectives on what the frogs' expressions might indicate and what is happening in the story. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fun to read out loud!
This is a great book if you have small children. They love it because it's fun to read out loud and it isn't so long that you get out of breath. This is a must have that I enjoy reading over and over again and my little ones never get tired of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still a Classic
I loved this book as a child, and now my daughter loves it, too.A really good lesson; we don't always get what we want in life, and sometimes that's for the best.Beautiful illustrations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Self concensus at work
An email friend used the term "self consensus" to describe the process by which we start with a known person- ourselves- and move in small steps away from that to construct our image of another person we know via email. This book is a good illustration of that idea.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved this book as a child
This book's pictures are based off of common nursery rhymes and in each picture you need to find someone who is hidden somewhere in the drawing. The pages have catchy little rhymes you read that indicate whom you need to be searching for. I must have read this book hundreds of times as a child and I don't ever remember becoming bored with it.

Poor Froggy, he sleeps all winter and has never been able to celebrate Christmas. But this year, his friend Max the beaver has other plans. He wakes Froggy up from his long winter nap to not only wish him a Merry Christmas, but to give him his first Christmas present ever...a Christmas tree.Froggy and Max hurry to wake up Matthew, the turtle and Travis, the bear from their winter hibernations (because Christmas is about friends) and all four head out to find the perfect tree. They carry it back to Froggy's house, decorate it, make home-made presents for Froggy's family (because Christmas is about family too) and then it's time for Froggy to put the star on top of the tree.Over goes the tree as Max shouts "timber"!This wakes Froggy's mom and dad and they have a wonderful celebration, doing everything...opening presents, roasting chestnuts, singing, eating and even having a snowball fight. And as the day ends, Froggy wishes "Merry Christmas to All"Jonathan London has written a funny, happy, gentle story about the real meaning of Christmas...spending time with friends and family. His easy to read text, full of cheerful animal dialogue and wonderful sound effects is complimented by Frank Remkiewicz's colorful, busy, detailed illustrations.Together they've created a wonderful holiday story that's just perfect for pre-schoolers and that's sure to become an instant favorite in your house. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for Froggy fans!
What can I say......the Froggy book series are fantastic! Jonathon London writes so well that children can help but enjoy the book. And Frank Remkiewicz is a wonderful illustrator - he makes the books come alive with his drawings of Froggy and the rest of the gang!4-0 out of 5 stars The Kids really enjoy it
I and my children found this book helpful whendiscussing fears and swimming lessons. Not only is the book fun to read (neat sounds, etc.), ithas the added bonus of providing two useful teaching tools for beginning swimmers.I have to say that the part where Froggy loses his bathing suit is over done, and really is not necessary to the storey. It conveys embarrasment about nudity when it really isn't necessary. A little skillful editing while reading can minimize this.Thebottom line is that I and my son found the book helpful, it is wellwritten, and has enjoyable illustrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Froggy & skills mastery
I agree with the other reviews that this book is especially splendid in it's illustrations, text and message.Like many young children, Froggy is fearful of the water (and, presumably, other new experiences). However, bytaking it at his own pace, and with the encouragement of his mother, hesoon masters his skills at swimming (anyone who has or works with youngchildren will empathize with a tired mom & dad frog who are stillwaiting patiently on into the night as Froggy practices his new learning). While very cute, age appropriate and fun, I have only one criticism:atone point, no doubt for humorous effect, Froggy looses his bathing suit and"turns more red than green."Demanding his parents NOT to look,he skedaddles into the bushes and re-suits.Perhaps I'm reading into thistoo much, but I would hope that children don't come to devolop negativebody issues re: being nude, especially around their own parents (no oneelse is at the beach with Froggy, Mom & Dad).My only concern is thatthis might reinforce the unnecessary shameful aspect of nudity that peoplein this country embrace and that, IMHO, is often one of the issues thatlead to negative body image in children in America (why do you think wehave so many anorexic/bulimic children here??) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Engaging and Exciting for our Little Guy
Our son loved this book - he watches intently as each "page" turns. The extra attachments - wings for butterfly, tail for mouse, claw for crab, etc. are all fun for him to reach for. It's also a great way to teach colors, bugs and animals. What a fun twist for a book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!Very funny
I love this book.I teach 7th grade English and read it aloud to my students. They loved it and couldn't wait to hear what Limpy was up to next. It's rare to find a book that a majority of 7th graders will enjoy. They all want to hear Toad Heaven, so they can see more of Limpy and his family. I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Im 20 and I loved it!
Yeah yeah, 20 and still reading kids books. This book is awesome and a quick read. Really vivid descriptions of places and things, I would reccomend this to babysitters and parents of kids at any age.

5-0 out of 5 stars Toadally awesome!!!!!
I found this book to be a 'toadal' riot!Stack me!I always read my kids books and though this book has a few odd bodily frog things going on, it is a great way to get kids to learn a little vocabulary and geography from down under (there is a glossary at the back of the book).I highly recommend this book and can't wait until I read another Gleitzman book! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars this book rocks! (school assignment)
this book is awesome! some people may not rate it a 5, but i love modern fantasy, so this book was just for me! i love how Prince Eadric keeps trying to steal a kiss from Emma. he is so persistant! also, whenever Emma DOES kiss him, its always when he doesnt expect it. like i said, i love these books that twist fairy tales with the modern day world! I was shocked when i heard about Grassina's and her families curse, Grassina sounds so beautiful, Emma's mother i wouldnt care less about though! lol. I almost cried when Grassina found her darling Haywood. i recomend this book to anyone who loves chic flicks!
5-0 out of 5 stars The Frog Princess
Princess Emma is not a, as you say, "perfect princess." Her laugh sounds like the bray of a donky insted of the sound of tinkling bells. To make matters worse her mother is making her get married to a prince she hates named Prince Jorge. Emma spends most of her time at a near by swamp. One day when she was at her swamp she hears a voice. The only other thing at the swamp besides herself is a frog. The frog explains to her that he was turned into a frog by an old which. The frog (named Edric) gets Emma to kiss him to change him back to a prince in human form. WRONG! He did get her to kiss him but insted of changing to a person, Emma changes to a frog! Emma refuses to remain a frog so Edric takes her to the place where he met the whitch that changed him into a frog. They went up, a asked the whitch to change them back to people only to find it is not the same witch, but one that is thirsty for eternal beauty and youth. This witch's spell is one that needs tongues and toes of talking frogs! She captures the two desperate frogs and takes them to her house. The frogs must escape and turn back into humans before the witch casts the spell.

I think the frog princess is a great book to read because she loves swamps alot. This frog wants her to kiss him but the kiss back fires and she turns into a frog. Well that's as far as I got.If you want to hear the rest of the story read it yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars nice adventures
I don't know what it is about Frog and Toad that's so great. It's like every word they say is laid out so perfectly and the stories are always so simple to understand, and yet, so much fun for children of all ages.I honestly wonder if my interest in walking around searching for and collecting toads came from this book. It's certainly a possibility.Anyway, enjoy these books.Buy them for your children and I hope they experience the same amount of enjoyment that I once did.

5-0 out of 5 stars Frog and Toad - Warm stories to snuggle with
My seven year old son is not nearly as thrilled with reading as his mother, but at last we have found a collection that he can't get enough of.Frog and Toad are the perfect bedtime characters. The stories are simple and sweet, and my son tells me that they make him feel "warm and cozy".The reading level is appropriate for him as a second grader. And even my four-year-old will settle in to listen to the latest tales of Frog and Toad. This is a must-have collection!
5-0 out of 5 stars Why do I love Frog and Toad?
Why do I love Frog and Toad? I'm not really sure. Not much really happens in these stories. The illustrations are beautiful but rather small. The eponymous friends carry on their friendship through mild misunderstandings and misadventures, always ready to forgive each other and forget. These gentle stories are among my favorite kids' books. I have fond memories of Frog and Toad from my childhood, and I never tire of re-reading them to my 4-year-old daughter. She seems to like them, too. ... Read more
