1-0 out of 5 stars Apologetics Cross-Dressed as Science
The title of this book "The Young Earth," is emblazoned on the cover in Star Trek style lettering - ironic since most episodes of Star Trek contain more science than this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why isn't this being taught in schools?
This was an outstanding book.At first, I got a little annoyed that Dr. Morris kept repeating the idea of perspective. And, although, I am a devout Christian, I was not looking for as many Biblical references. However, I really got it.I could not put this book down and even dreamed about it each night after my reading.I am an engineer, so I did get most of the technical discussions. However, I did get lost on the discussion of the magnetic field reversals. This is a great logical description of how the Biblical accounts of the creation of our world are very likely true. The author presents a very honest criticism of his findings stating that no-one can actually state emphatically what happened at the creation of the earth... but I can honestly state that it is much easier to believe in God's creation as stated in the Bible, than all of the other garbage that has been thrust on us in schools, TV and other outlets. As for the negative responses on this site... this is what I hear all the time from the skeptics.. some name calling, some attempts at intimidation and no substance.Great book... a must read!As Dr. Morris states in the book, if you are bound and determined to believe in an old earth, you may have doubts after reading this book, but I rather think that these doubts are a basis to continue a certain lifestyle rather than facing truly scientific findings in this book.If you are a Christian, you can stop talking yourself into weird comprimises between evolution, Big Bang and Genesis and start finding a deeper belief in God's Word."Seek and ye shall find".Praise God for Dr. Morris!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introductory work to the age of the earth
This is one book that really needed to be written. This is the only book I know of that deals specifically with the scientific evidences for a young earth. Dr. Morris presents the evidences in a clear manner and documents all of his research for further study. What I enjoyed most about this book was Dr. Morris' philosophy on science in the first few chapters. He clearly explains that it is not the evidence that he disagrees with, but the INTERPRETATIONS of the evidence. John also makes it clear that all of the "evidences" for a young earth are interpreted by fallible humans and should not be trusted dogmatically because science is always changing. Instead, he says that we should trust the authority of the bible, which is never changing, which clearly says that the earth is young. That is why I, along with many other creationists, fear for "progressive creationists" who are trusting the fallible ideas of man rather than the plain teaching of scripture.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME for resistant readers!
My daughter LOVED this series!!! One comment though, the description has preschol readers as the reading level.. but actually the INDEPENDENT level is about a second grade level book. Nice pictures, easy text, graduated vocabulary, and high interest topics. I only wish they had MORE on the independent level than they do.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginning readers & even include reward stickers
I love these book sets from the Now I'm Reading series. There is a parent guide included and a set of stickers so that when your child finishes a book she can put a sticker in it.There are several stickers for each book so it encourages reading and re-reading the books which is an important key to learning. My daughter loves the whimsical and colorful illustrations and she is very motivated to read from her experiences with these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have inspirational masterpiece!
We just love this book!! The soft, melodic prose is very soothing, as well as the fun, airy illustration. The story provokes imagination and creativity, even in us as parents reading to our child. As with all books by Chara M. Curtis, I couldn't recommend this book more.

5-0 out of 5 stars My daughter's favorite book
At 2 1/2 years old my daughter just hangs on every word and image. She loves this book as well as Curits' All I See is Part of Me.The message is outstanding, the writing divinely inspired, and the images evoking. When's the next one coming out?

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Is A Feeling
...Savor that smile as it slips onto your face and let the merriment begin with this refreshing and insightful narrative about the feelings of a child. This book is both adorable and wise, and it teaches children to look at everything and every situation in a different way. Fun Is A Feeling tells us that fun is where we find it and shows us how to look for it; however, it also reminds us that sometimes we have to put that fun there. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Book of Interest
This book allowed me to share stories of inventions by women with my students.Girls often feel left out of the "science of invention", this book allows them to relate to accomplishments in a field where girls often don't relate to the material presented.

5-0 out of 5 stars Empowering and informative
This book goes a long way towards encouraging girls (and women!) to put their creative powers to practical use. It is so gratifying to learn that many everyday items (ice cream cones; Toll House cookies) were invented by women. And the items that are not so 'everyday' (Kevlar; space shields) have such a positive impact on the world around us. The illustrations are wonderfully creative, blending the fascinating details of the text into whimsical collages. Don't forget the sidebars - lots of fun facts there as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it. Very inspirational.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent starter book on creation vs. evolution
Although this book is written on probably a junior high/high school level, as an adult who has never really tackled this subject, this is a great place to begin if you've wanted to explore the whole issue of creation vs. evolution.
4-0 out of 5 stars It Couldn't Just Happen
Other reviewers have commented enough on the content of the book. I reccomend it to parents, encourage them to sift through it, do further study, and to teach their children the errors of The Theory of Evelution, using this book as a tool. ToEvelotionists, all I have to say is this: When scientists discovered that the Universe is expandinding (early 1900's), this proved that the Universe was not eternal, but had a beginning. The Second Law of Thermodynamics says that things go from order to disorder - NOT from chaos to order, as The Thoery of Evelution requires.

1-0 out of 5 stars Your children believe everything you say when they're little...
In order for a book to be trustworthy, it has to be based on solid facts. However, this book starts off with blatant errors in even the most basic science and then goes downhill from there. At some point, your children will become educated enough to see those errors. And then what will happen? Will they start to question the conclusion that God and His Son do indeed exist? Find a better book. :)

I am getting ready to take the test so I am confident that OI will pass this test thanks to this book

2-0 out of 5 stars A Dishonest Mistake
I absolutely abhored this book and I regretted buying it. Though the explanation of the English sec. was acceptable, I was mostly upset with the way the explained the math format. They made the simplest concepts having to do with prealgebra or basic algebra more complicated for people who either know it or not. I agree with one of the reviewers who claimed that the questions were harder than questions on the actual ACT. I answered sample English questions online from the ACT's website and I easily got them correct compared to the ones found in the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive study guide and a good value
Barron's is one of many publishers that sells standardized exam study guides.Given what the book contains and its price, 'How to Prepare for the ACT' is probably the best ACT book out there. The student has four opportunities to simulate the entire exam (one diagnostic test and three full 'model' ACT tests).I would recommend using many different resources to study for the ACT, but I would also recommend beginning with this book.It will be a lifesaver for procrastinators. It can also give you an edge over the competition, or at least help you keep up.The ACT can be cracked.Barron's can help the diligent, dedicated student crack the ACT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Harkens back to my youth as a Native American
I, Smith T. Aames, have a secret.I was not always Smith T. Aames.Nay, I was raised an indigenous person. My original family was a small tribe of Native Americans called the Hopi, centered in Arizona. When I was a Hopi, my job was to gather succulent weeds and grasses for the tribe to eat.I think this early job was responsible for my interest in having dogs--I mean, it's very similar how I go about Washington, D.C. collecting roadkill and abandoned housecats for my dogs to feast upon.Just the other day I was able to capture an injured squirrel for my Pomeranian, PomPom P. Aames.PomPom really enjoyed the tasty, tender squirrel meat, although she did get some blood on my lovely white couch.I actually discovered a great upholstery cleaner as a result of this incident, but that is another review.
5-0 out of 5 stars Cloud Dance
This is an absolutely beautiful book.I am an art teacher attempting to integrate the visual arts and science. This book came highly recommended by a school librarian and I am so grateful for her direction.I will definitely share the book with my students.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cloud Dance
Thomas Locker creates an interesting way to learn about clouds in this beautifully illustrated book.As the reader turns the pages of this book, they encounter numerous types of clouds. The first illustration shows the many different sizes and shapes clouds can assume, from the light and wispy cirrus cloud to the puffy cumulus cloud. With each turn of the page, clouds are seen in different seasons and times of day, under various weather conditions. The illustrations are eye appealing oil paintings. As you view each picture, it is like you are standing on the ground and seeing the vast sky with the clouds creating a mosaic of lights, shapes, and colors. You can almost feel the rain hitting your face when you look at the painting depicting clouds in a rain storm. The painting of the clouds that "shimmer in the moonlight" gives the reader a sense of calm. Each painting in this book causes the reader to feel some emotion--from the suppressed anger of a developing thunderstorm to the warm peace of a sunset. At the end of the book the author includes factual information about clouds. The scientific names are given for all the clouds along with a description.Answers are also given for such questions as "How are clouds formed?" and "How high does the sky reach?"This book would be a good way to introduce a science unit on clouds and weather. The illustrations would stimulate a student's imagination and could be a starting point for them to begin thinking about what clouds look like at different times and in a variety of conditions.Cloud Dance would be a valuable addition to anyone's library. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Like visiting a world class Museum exhibit on the brain.
When I picked up this book I was floored as to the detail and the depth with which this book covers the subject.I felt like I had just entered the exhibit room of a world class museum. The book takes you on a tour ofthe brain the way a museum exhibit would. It has all the best features, including:being interactive; covering the history and developement of thefield; and being up to date and accurate. The book is as much fun for thebrain expert as well as the brain neophyte. It may be too detailed forchildren under 12 but with an adult helping I think children down to 7 or 8can get alot out of this volume.
