Engineering Documentation
I am a British Chartered Engineer working mainly in Blue Chip energy-related companies. I have just started using this book in my work and find it strongly re-enforces my passion for excellent documentation and design management. It is clearly the current 'bible' forEngineering Documentation Control and is extremely valuable in showing how to climb the 'Configuration Management Ladder' (page 8). It cuts away the dross and complexity that is plentiful nearly everywhere else. So many of us technologists and managers are struggling with hugely powerful new computer packages that integrate most processes in our companies. This is one of the very few books to chart our course and give us a chance of a reliable way through to simplicity, speed and profitability that are so often promissed but so rarely fully attained.
Thorough Industry Configuration Management Resource...
...but not for Software CM. Great Inroduction to CM
Unlike the vast majority of books available on configuration management, this book, as the title suggests, focuses entirely on configuration management in industry.Throughout the book, the author focuses on a simplified, fast configuration management system that exceeds DoD standards.This book, in the chapters titled Change Control and Fast Change, has an exceptional explanation of how to handle configuration modifications.In these chapters the author gives a detailed description of how to set up a system that allows the fastest possible changes to take place.Also, many case studies are given in these sections which provide further insight as to how to implement the correct system for a given situation.Overall, the book is very easy to understand, and serves as an excellent introduction and handbook to a configuration management system for industry. ... Great Reading
Classrooms That Work has a multitude of ideas that actually work in the classroom to help students become better readers and writers.

Great resource
This book is written in a reader-friendly format. It provides many useful strategies which are easily adapted to individual classrooms. The authors reference specific books which lend themselves to cited strategies. ( Some books will prove hard to come by as they are out of print, however.) For any experienced teacher, Cunningham's condescending,dogmatic style borders upon the insulting. Carefully read, her "best methods" approach, "research-based" book is neither supported, cited nor properly footnoted within the confines of her book. In spite of that fact, her books are being implented as if they were "Bibles" in numerous districts throughout the USA. In fact, the bureaucrats of the state of Illinois are requiring that we teach her methods!Read more

this is a great book
This is a great book that will help future teachers and parents to teach their children literacy.It has information about how to help children to understand reading and how one can help them to learn.This book has good information for anyone who wants to become a better reader.The only thing that I dislike about the book is that the chapters are long, but it is worth it.

Very useful text
This is a very useful, and up to date text. I'm in an education program right now that focuses heavily on literacy. This text book has become my bible! This text even carries complete lists of children's books to use for teaching certain ages and subjects!

Ultimate Frustration
The parts are cheap, the models built are flimsy and the motor is flaky. After the 2nd robot, the motor no longer works. I bought this solely based on the quality products that DK produces.This is not one of them.

Perfect answer to "I want to build a robot"
My 8 year old daughter has been asking and asking for a robot building kit.She is entirely happy with this kit and the robots we built."The Ultimate Robot Kit" contains several robots, each of which is fairly simple to build.The build time required is appropriate for a young child's short attention span.No, these aren't sturdy "last forever" robots but, seriously, if you kept every project, drawing, and happy-meal toy forever, you'ld be up to your ears in stuff.
Rubish, don't waste your money
The packaging and promise of this kit to build "robots" just didn't live up to its hype.

A great introduction to ROBOTICS
This might be the most informative guide to the amazing world of robotics!
Great book for kids and adults who love Robots!
First of all DK Eyewitness books are wonderful, beautiful pictures and just enough info for the beginner, makes these books my first choice all the time.I bought this book for my son and daughter along with a robot erector set so they could dabble a bit in robotics.My son has been collecting robots since he was young, the old tin wind up sort, he is hoping for Robosapien this Christmas.This book will give him more info on robotics, a science that is really growing.

My 2 year olds favourite book
Without doubt, my boys most favourite book, he just loves it - he follows what yous say, especially the 'work all day' Can't reccommend it highly enough

Great pictures---cute book
My 2 year old son loved this book when we brought it home from the library so much that I decided to buy it.He is captivated by the bright colorful full-spread pictures.The text is awkward in a couple of places, but that doesn't lessen his enjoyment, just mine as I read it.A worthwhile book for your little boy's personal library because it covers such a big variety of vehicles (even garbage trucks gobble-gobble-gobbling).

Good, but...
My two year-old loves the book and loves the pictures, but I felt like it didn't always make sense and could have been written better.Sometimes the authors force the text to fit the form they have set up.The Tracker goes "squelch sqelch"??But, the pictures are good and my son LOVES it.I just wish I was happier reading it. ... The Compleat Robot
Britain's DK Books are known for their lavish, full color coffee table creations, and this volume is no exception. At just under 200 pages it surveys nearly every avenue of things robotic. As such, it's a great overview, interest jogger or introduction to the subject whether your interest lies in toy collecting, robot building or sci-fi films. The flip side is that such a brief treatment can't hope to be exhaustive. My four stars is not due to any lack in the book, but merely because this book is easily used up. But not before it's achieved its purpose in directing the interested reader toward further study and reading.

Catchy, fun books for toddlers who like all trucks
our 2 1/2 year old son is realy enjoying the whole "amazing machines" series. i like them too. they are fun, and the rhymes are clever. they even give me more to talk about with my son when we see different trucks that go by. i can "discuss" the truck parts, and the jobs that the trucks do. in my opinion, a very fun series that has helped me spend quality time with my little truck lover.

My son's most tattered book! Constantly read & re-read.
My son knows this book off by heart. He is nearly two, and he makes me read it over and over. He says the last word of every rhyming page, and is reduced to hysterics by the squelching and glugging comments. He has alsolearnt all the technical terms for different parts of diggers and he isconstantly pointing them out on our journeys.Thank you Tony Mitton and AntParker for the hours of fun we have with your brilliant book. I have justordered Roaring Rockets, and I cannot wait for it to arrive.

Chinese inventions worth reading about
This nonfiction book gives many interesting facts about things that come from or were invented in China. The book is well organized because there is a table of contents and the book is divided into sections. Along with a glossary, a resource page is also included, which lists other books and websites about China. The book is very educational, and the information presented is clear and direct. The photographs help capture the essence of China's great inventions. The most exciting thing included in the book is the Mandarin language, the official language of China, for some English words. The calligraphy is given first, and then a pronounciation key is provided. The one and only flaw in the book is the illustrations of ancient Chinese people making paper from pulp. The illustrations are vague, which makes it hard to understand the process it took to make paper. This is a great resource to have in any classroom library. Teachers can use this book to introduce a lesson about China. If students are doing research about China, they can use the book to learn valuable information.

If your preschooler likes pictures, and you as the parent like educating, then this is a fun, educational book! I love to use it to teach my chinese daughter about her birth country!

Excellent Intro to Mechanical Engineering Concepts
Bought this for my 10 y.o. son, who's recently taken up robotics as a hobby.He had enough enthusiasm and natural ability to build his first robot from a kit, but had no idea how to design mechanical attachments to perform various actions (i.e., forklift arms) nor how to design his own from scratch.Get in Gear was the perfect blend of instruction and hands-on fun for understanding the many functions and uses of gears.The explanations are clear and simple, and the reader gets to experiment with each type of gear immediately by using the cleverly-designed parts included with the book.This has provided my son with a much better understanding of gears than he'd get from just reading and looking at pictures alone, and now he's very well-prepared to start employing gears in his robots.

Great intro to gears
I gave this to my son for his 4th birthday and expected to use it with him.He really enjoys the projects and both of us have a great time playing and learning.The only problem we had was that one page was warped and made the project involving planetary gears challenging.

A fresh take on an old rhyme
This remake of "Hush Little Baby" is creative and the rhymes are surprising, never forced. My niece and several other kids I love ADORE this book and ask for it over and over.
