5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite book to read to my kids
It's fun to read! Great graphics, easy flow, great funny story! It's our alltime favorite. We read it all year round too. Some books they want me to read to them are not much fun for me to read even though they love it, but this one I can't resist! I would recommend it again and again, and will never get rid of this book - even when my kids are grown.

5-0 out of 5 stars A True Halloween Treat!
I have a 3 year old who is just a nut about Halloween and pumpkins. This book is just the perfect story for him and he loves it year round...so far. It's the story of a witch who grows an absolutely huge pumpkin. But the Pumpkin is so big that she cannot get it off the vine and moved. She enlists the aid of similar denizens of the night including a ghost, vampire, mummy, and a bat but none of them can get the Pumpkin moved...until they figure out it takes teamwork and cooperation to get the job done.A truly hilarious story that teachs kids about cooperation. The book is spooky, but never scary. The illustrations are colorful and bold and attractive to especially younger kids.Erica Silverman has made a delightful book that is simply too good to be read only at Halloween time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just a seasonal read
I don't know how we got this book, but what a treasure. My daughter loves the rythym and build of this book. The characters build upon each others' attempt to pluck a witch's pumpkin from her vine. It features the witch, a vampire, a mummy and a bat. They are all non-threatening as the goal is to make and eat a pumkin pie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Halloween Chills
I love the beautiful illustrations in this book and the rhyming is perfect for phonemic awareness for preschoolers. It is the perfect amount of scary for 4 and 5 year olds. It is a short, spooky, read with gorgeous pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars wonderfully scary, but not too much
I just discovered this book and took it home to my two year old and he loved it.
5-0 out of 5 stars My almost 3 year old memorized in a couple of days!
My son is just turning 3 and borrowed this book from the library to get him excited about Halloween ...did it ever!We didn't know how much he was taking it in until one night when we were very tired and reading it to him...we stopped to yawn and he filled in the rest of the story in a very scary scary halloween whispered voice! So much fun - we are buying it!GREAT pictures and colors that go right along with a GREAT story!I will probably buy this for all my niece and nephews for next Halloween! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Hit of the Holidays
All of our friends and relatives commented on how much they liked these cards and because each one is different, we enjoyed picking just the right card for the recipients. My husband insists on creative cards each year because he's in a creative field.I'm not sure how we're going to top these next year!

5-0 out of 5 stars EXQUISITE!
I purchased these cards at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and wish I had bought at least 3 sets.Every card I put into an envelope I want to keep for myself. Each card is truly a little gift!Additionally, I am glad they say Happy Holidays because I have many friends celebrating different things this time of year.I am going to buy additional sets just to have (or give as gifts) for next year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, thoughtfully-made cards!
I love these cards and am purchasing a second set since the first set was so popular and wonderful to give away!A previous reviewer had given it only 1 star because they said the cards don't say "Merry Christmas" and has nothing about Christmas inside. The latter is not true.If anything, there is a slight Christian slanton a couple of the cards: one with baby Jesus, one with a lovely pop-up Bethlehem and star, and one stained-glass window one depicting the Virgin Mary and baby (and maybe a few more I can't think of right now).A large majority of the cards can be given away to anyone of any religion celebrating the holiday season.

4-0 out of 5 stars FUN HALLOWEEN BOOKS
My 2 1/2 year old just loves Halloween. He was born Oct. 28th so he's definitely a Halloween baby and he loves everything to do with the holiday including seeing pumpkins, bats and spiders. This delightful book by Natasha Wing is a Halloween takeoff on "Twas the Night Before Christmas" following the same pattern except that in this book various ghouls and goblins are preparing for Halloween and for the children who will soon be knocking at their front door. The Illustrations by Cynthia Fisher perfectly fit the fun tone and pace of the book and my little loves reading this one over and over...

5-0 out of 5 stars The Night Before Halloween is wonderful , colorful and cute.
The idea of the monsters getting ready for Haloween was great. I loved the book. I bought 10 copies and gave them to friends and relatives. 5-0 out of 5 stars Haunted Castle
This particular book I'm reading is called The Haunted Castle on Hallows Eve . It's not a very scary book but it might be for Annie and Jack. They're the main characters in the book. They have the magic tree house that sends them on missions. In this secret mission, they don't know what it is about but along the way they find clues. They don't know if it is dangerous or not. But luckily their friend Teddy can come along with them. He's from a whole different dimension. He's from a world where there's wizards. Teddy has a magic rhyming twig that nobody knows about. Inside this castle they go around looking for something that might be going wrong. The exciting, never ending heart pounding action is going to begin. Did Jack and Annie see A ghost or An invisible child. Find the excitement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This book is very fun. I't cool at the end where they run into the kid in the eyeball costume!

1-0 out of 5 stars Olivia Mails It In (or Falconer Mails It In) Your choice.
My son enjoys the Olivia series immensely. "Missing Toy" and "Saves The Circus" are on their second copies at my house due to the wear and tear of the originals. We looked forward to "Forms A Band" and were delighted to finally get it at our local bookstore. Disappointed at the results puts it mildly. It is a disjointed mess, with a terrible ending (and if the end is political message, that is just awful and inappropriate)Olivia has lost her edge which is why we love her and the imagination scenes showed none, which is unusual for this series. Ours lasted two reads before it was pushed aside for one of the vibrant other Olivia books. I would buy this book only to complete a collection and nothing more. It is terrible. I would give it 0 stars if I could.

My son and I have read this book over and over and over again.Whether it's Halloween time or not this book will be a sure favorite of kids' who like the dark side.Don't take this to mean that the book is dark or scary. What I mean is that if your kids have a taste for spookies then this book will not fail to please.Great pictures with subtle hidden pictures that show that the spookies and such aren't real in this haunted house. The text is fun to read outloud to the wee ones.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Little Disappointing
As great as Piggie Pie was to read aloud in class, this book doesn't live up to it as a sequel. While the details are darling in illustrations and Gritch pulls a few snickers as she suffers a broken broom, the plot falls apart. She doesn't really resolve the problem, which makes it hard to use in the classroom as a great example of Beginning, Middle and End. Gritch is a great character, though, and I hope Palatini gives her more adventures!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Bewitching!
This "sequel" to Piggie Pie is fantastic! It's one of those books you don't mind reading, out loud and in character, over and over, whether your grandchild has fallen asleep or not.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fun for both kids and adults!
This book was so fun to read. The story is about a cranky witch whose old broom goes kaput and how she tries to replace it.Adults will get a kick out of references to The Wizard of Oz and smarmy car salesmen.Kids will love the vivid illustrations and the hilarious language. The exchange between the salesman and the witch is a crack-up.Read more

I love the illustrations, I love the text, I just love this book. But. But I want to kiss my daughter in all of those sweet places while I am reading her the book and I can't because I have to hold the book in one hand and my daughter in the other and become a contortionist to kiss her bellybutton. And I wouldn't be able to do all of the kissing AND reading while my daughter is on the changing table. I guess I'll have to wait until she's in a big-girl bed. So it's not the author's fault, it's just that the book is better for, say, 18 months and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good early-reader history book!
I browsed and browsed before finding a book I felt was proper to read to my two young children about Thanksgiving;this one was it.3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but whitewashes history a bit.
This is a good, easy-to-read description of the Pilgrim's journey to America, their hard winter, and the first "Thanksgiving" celebration. However, I think it whitewashes history a little too much. It virtually ignores the tension that existed between the Pilgrims and Indians. There needs to be a happy median struck between telling the truly wonderful aspects of that first Thanksgiving -- how the two peoples were able to come together, if only for a short time, to share the celebration -- while acknowledging there were difficulties in the relationship between Pilgrims amd Indians. This isn't being "politically correct" -- it's just acknowledging the truth to our children that relationships between those two groups of peoples were not usually easy. Life is complex, even for young children -- they will understand and appreciate being told the full story.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good addition to your child's historical library
This history of the Pilgrims is very complete, given the reading level of the book.It is written for second to third grade students. The story covers the reasons for leaving England, the journey across the Atlantic, the first horrible winter, the meeting of Samoset and Squanto, the help given by the Indians and the Harvest Feast itself. The artwork is nicely done and adds to the content. Second grade students may find new vocabulary and challenging words to read, while third grade students should find the reading easy.A good asset for the teaching of American history to early elementary students. ... I love reading this to my child as much as I loved having it read to me when I was a child. The book is joyous and lets you enjoy the fantasy of just how a birthday should be. Reading it on birthdays is a tradition in our house and helps us to relive the fantasy each year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Child needs to sit on a pumkin at least as big as they are!
I discovered and checked this book out for the first time a few weeks after I had taken my son to the pumkin farm, and after Thanksgiving had passed. We were delighted with the beautiful artwork (colored pencil drawings). The texture and dimension in the artwork is exquisite. The simple story line is perfect for the young child of 2-5.Jamie is met with a variety of curious animals while he pursues a journey of growing and harvesting his very own pumpkin, carving it, decorating his face for Halloween (you hardly notice this in the soft hues of the artwork, but his pet dog certainly does)and saving the seeds for the next season (six, to be exact). It would make a fine early reader as well for a k-2 reader.Nice book!

5-0 out of 5 stars All the children I've read this too loved it.!
I got this book many years ago, when I took care of a class of 4 year olds. They loved this book and read the book with me.Now that I have a child of my own (almost 2 years old) it is his favorite book.I read it sometimes 10 times a day and it has wonderful illustrations.I never tire of it and am looking to buy more of Jeanne Titherington's books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for teachers
I teach English to a fifth grade that had very little instruction in the past. I gave this book to three girls and they could understand the meaning of words using the picture clues. One of them had never heard the word pumpkin before, let alone sprout or seed. Now they all have a better vocabulary. Last year I read the same book to a first grade that did not have English classes. I used the story to teach plant growth and sequence concepts. The year before I had also used it to teach subtraction and backward counting - Jamie saved 6 seeds. He plants one. He still has 5, and so on. Read more

I love this book - its the sweetest Halloween explaination I've ever heard. Before kids are ready for spooks and scares, this can help be a great introduction to dressing up and visiting neighbors. I love the characters and the illustrations - i can't wait for the sequel!

5-0 out of 5 stars The Story of the Halloween Fairy
This is a wonderful book for any fairy lover.I know this site recommends it for children 4 to 8 years old, however, all ages of fairy lovers will love it.I bought several copies for friends my own age and over and I am nearly retirement age. Both the author and illustrator do a wonderful job. You will do yourself a favor by buying a copy to add to your fairy book collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Delightfully fresh tribute to all who enjoy this time of year
As the fun of summer wears off, The Story of the Halloween Fairy brings children an introduction to the fall traditions of color, make believe and the spirit of giving which starts with preparation for Halloween, moves into the spirit of Thanksgiving and cumulates with the traditional religious holidays of Christmas and Hanukah. This story weaves the spirit of giving into the Halloween tradition and away from the bounty of a bag full of candy...and the resulting belly ache! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nice Introduction to Diwali!
I really am pleased how it approaches its subject matter. Most children's books about international holidays are too technical and long to be used as a read aloud. This book can be useful and provide useful information. If a student wants more they can read a more complex book later. It also helps include an ESOL child's holiday in class, even young kids. ...
