A Magical Story of Love and Hope
This is one of the most inspirational children's books I have ever read. The message is simple but powerful and an inspiration for all. It is part Pinocchio,part Pride of the Yankees, and it works. For anyone who has ever had a child go through any kind of serious illness, it is a wonderful reminder of how sometimes the smallest thing can suddenly reach out to that child and bring them back to you, and how you should never give up fighting. For those who have lost a child, it is a powerful lesson in love, hope and strength. For those whose lives have never been touched by serious childhood illness, it is a chance to reach out and hug your own kids and realize just how special each and every child is and how much they bless your life. It's all about believing, and the message comes through loud and clear. This book should be on every child's bookshelf, in every classroom and in every library. It is a story to read again and again. The illustrations are just perfect for the story, gentle and magical. Since the proceeds of this book go to charity, you are not only sharing the magic of The Boy of Steel with your own children, you are helping other children as well. Young or old, you will be touched by the inspirational story and the simple style of the author. It is a book I now proudly own, and my child, a survivor of serious childhood illness, is now 20. A demonstration of the good just one person can do
This is the story of an extraordinary little girl. Alexandra Scott was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a form of cancer, when she was one year old. When she was four, she decided to build a lemonade stand and donate the proceeds to the hospital where she was treated. News of Alex and her goals spread, so that others decided to help her raise money. Now there is a foundation (Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation) dedicated to continuing her work.
Fabulous Story!
This is one of my new ALL TIME favorite books!I first came to know Alex on the TODAY show with Matt Lauer.She inspired me so much that I bought lemonade from every stand I could find that summer!I was so sorry that her little life was cut so short, but so thrilled that her spunk and determination and vision live on!EVERY child should be exposed to and read this book!There is no excuse for every library to not have it, and for every parent to not read it!Open a lemonade stand, and continue Alex' dream!

Great young adult book
Code Orange kept the attention of my 12 year old daughter who really doesn't like to read.It was on a list of approved books at her school for summer reading, so I was reassured that it would be appropriate for her age.I would recommend it to others of this age group.

Code Orange took a long time for me to get a hold of and it was pretty much worth the wait. I found that this book was very exciting and I enjoyed it very much.
All About Orange Code.
This book takes place in New York City in present time. Mitty is a 15-year-old boy who thinks that life would be so much easier without school. The only reason that he makes himself go is Olivia. Mitty takes advanced biology, and he's not really sure why. His class is assigned to research a infectious disease using books as their textural references. If he does not make a good grade on this test, he'll go back down to regular biology. Mitty would be fine with that, but it would mean not being in Olivia's class. So he decides to do the project. He chooses Variola Major, commonly called smallpox. While researching, Mitty comes upon a envelope stuck in between the pages of a disease book. When he opens it he finds several, what he believes were once smallpox scabs from a 1920 epidemic. As Mitty is writing his paper, he describes what smallpox does to your body. I recommend not reading these parts on a stop-and-go bus ride on the way to school, it only makes it worse. At the end of the chapters, the author tries to scare you by implying that the scabs had gone into his nose, and were affecting Mitty. He himself can not decide if he actually has this disease which he and the rest of the world thought no longer existed, or if he is simply imagining it.

This book moved me to tears
I came across this book in a local children's hospital resource library.The first page describes a speeding race car with no brakes, and how it might go off the road or even crash.Page two goes on to draw a parellel between this race car, and and explains that having ADHD is a lot like being a race car with no brakes, 'You have a great engine with lots of thinking power, and a good, strong body, but no brakes'.I broke down crying right there in the middle of the library - it was like finally getting inside my child's head and knowing how he feels and why he just doesn't seem to know when to quit. One of the most difficult things about parenting an ADHD child is explaining attention deficit disorder to that child. Patricia Quinn and associates have given a powerful resource to these parents - a true gift to empower them. Keeping it simple
How do you go about explaining something to your children that you have difficulty understanding yourself? Well Barklay and Eve make the process easier. This wonderful book describes the most complicated procedures in simple terms without talking down to children. I found the illustrations and story content charming and informative. Children will find the common hair loss of cancer a much less frightening process when they see the fun that Eve has with a wig. Great book for church library
I am a Lutheran Church librarian in Florida who bought this book for our church library.It stresses that though we may have different traits and characteristics we are all worthy of love, respect and human dignity.It discusses a mentally-challenged little boy and how he can be a good playmate even though he is a little slow.So what?He is still a persdon worthy of dignity and acceptance.This book stresses kindness on a personal level and a live-and-let-live attitude.This is a vital life lesson for our children to learn early on, and is a great conversation starter.This book will help cut down on bullying, marginalization and dehumanization of the mentally and physically challenged among us.After all, who among us doesnot have some sort of shortcoming?Children need to know that perfection is an impossibility and so they should expect people to do the best job they can but not expect perfection in themselves or others.The illustrations appear to be done in pastels and are very attractive.Great Job, Maria!Keep them coming!

What's Wrong With Timmy?
Just as with What's Heaven, this story has Kate as well.I think every parent that has a child with special needs would hope that friendship and acceptance would come as quickly to them as it does to Timmy in What's Wrong With Timmy?

This book is a real nightmare for children with disabilities. Maria Shriver does attempt to impart the message that nothing is wrong at all- unfortunately, she's already planted the seed in the young minds of her readers with the mere title of the book. She then spends an exhaustive twenty pages trying to be sure she'd convinced them of it.I'd recommend "Russ and the Almost Perfect Day" by Janet Elizabeth Rickert instead. ... Read more

My nephew loves these books, I got him this book first around age 2 and luckily just in time, he wouldn't take his medicine and his Mom referenced "taking it like the dinosaurs" and he was all over it. He's got the whole set now and knows more dinosaurs names than I ever knew existed and corrects me if I pronounce them wrong. Smart kid, great author, and illustrator. You will love these dinosaurs, get it.

Blue bonnet books
I think So B. It is a great book.It is kinda of cool that Heidi wants to find out her history.If I was her, I would too.But it is pretty sad that Mama dies.When I got finished reading it, I felt like there should be more, but I would never be able to think of such wonderful ideas for another end. My friend Emily, felt strange when she ended it.So did I.All the surprising things like Mr. Hill being her grandfather when he was so mean on the phone.I thought for sure he was just an old grumpy man. Elliot, I thought was Mama's husband and mama just ran away with her baby.If you haven't read it, I think you should.That is my opinion.

Confusing - in a good way!
I think that junie B. Jones realy made it sound like she was going to be the star of the play! But then everything turned around,when her part was picked she thought she got a dumb old boat. And then William sneezed in the middle of the show.It was confusing because too many things were going on!

Hilarious

Great reading for young girls
These are great books for the 8-10 year old girl.My daughter does not like to read and yet this series has captured her imagination and kept her engrossed for long periods.Well meaning topics and fun reading for kids.

Judy Moody is the best series I have ever read.
Judy Moody is a spunky third grader who wants to become a doctor.When Judy finds out she has to do a project for school she is really happy and wants to do it on Elizabeth Blackwell, first female doctor.While working on the report her brother gets sick and now Judy Moody has her first patient.Judy tries all kinds of ways to make her brother, Stink, feel much better.

A Nice Price (Even For Scrooge)
I've always liked the story of "A Christmas Carol", whether it was a live action film version, the Muppet version, the Disney animated version, even one of the dozens of sitcom parodies. I finally got round to reading the original, and I quite enjoyed it. Even though I'd seen and heard so many versions of the story, reading it was still very special.

this is not the best of Charles Dickens but it is one of his triumphs and his shortest book.
the christmas carol
the author is Charles dickens. there are 112 pges. the story begins w/ scrooge in his counting-house on a frigid, foggy christmas eve in london. the characters are: scrooge, bob cratchit, tiny tim, jacob marely, the ghosts of christmas past, present, and future, fred, fezziwig, belle, peter cratchit, martha cratchit, the portly gentlemen, and mrs. cratchit. the setting is one frigid, foggy christmas eve in london to a happy but still cold christmas day. the beginning of the plot starts by an old man named scrooge, a very greedy person who hates christmas and loves money, counting his money in a counitng house. the rising action is: the mean old man is haunted by four ghost, including Bob marely. this book is very inspiring book to those who are mean greedy of money and those especially that hate christmas.i like this book because i used to take christmas as a day of juss getting presents and it taught me that christmas is really about love and family. this book showed me that even though they give me a cheap gift but to thank the person fer giving it to me. like the saying goes,: "its the thoght that counts." if you are a hater or that u dont really care about christmas, read this book. it will changhe ur thought aboput christmas. this book is very interesting. readers all over the world should read it. this book teaches people that take Christmas fer granted a lesson. this book inspires, teches, and somewhat entertains. read dis book! and you'll think so 2. ... Petey: An All-Time Favorite
Petey is one of the most touching stories I've ever read and one of my all-time favorite children's novels. I'm a young middle school teacher, and I read 100+ YA/children's chapter books every year, but I keep coming back to this one. If there was one book I could recommend that everyone read, it would be Petey. I get teary just thinking of this story...that is how real Mikaelsen made Petey to his readers. Petey is the story of a baby, who becomes a boy, who becomes a man, with cerebral palsy. Petey's capacity for love will reach down and grab hold of you in a real way. This became "the book to read" last year for my 7th and 8th graders (who saw me crying once when I was reading it, and of course were fascinated!), both for boys and girls. Some of my "toughest" boys admitted to everyone that they cried while reading it, and challenged other boys to try it and see if they didn't cry. But the tears you'll cry for Petey aren't all of sadness; some are tears of happiness, of triumph...and there is also plenty of laughter in this story. What an important story to share with kids, as they develop love and understanding for people who are different than them! And what a wonderful story for adults to remember what life is really about.

A sensitive, realistic story of overcoming adversity...
Originally, this book was entitled "When Dreams Shatter", and was released in the mid-80s. After going out of print for awhile, I'm glad to see that it's made a comeback!

It's Kind ofa Good Story
Take a good helping of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," add a heaping spoonful of "Girl, Interrupted," and stir in a dollop or two of "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close," and you'll have a good idea what you're going to get with "Funny Story."
kind of a funny story?
it's different. and if you don't think that everything can be looked at with humor in life, you're wrong. This is def. reccomended for Ned's old fans and new fans.

Incredible!
It's not often you come across an adult author who can accurately portray teen angst and depression. However, Ned Vizzini does an excellent job with this insightful and somewhat darkly humorous novel.

Life with Diabetes: Lacie the Lizard's Adventure
This is an excellent book for children who are diagnosed with Type I diabetes. It also gives parents a tool to help the diabetic child understand that they aren't so different and they can enjoy a long, happy and normal life if they take care of themselves.
