3rd Grade Teacher
I bought this Science Encyclopedia along with their basic Encyclopedia and I truly love it.My kids are always reading it whenever they get the chance.I have a 5 minute session after lunch before my class leaves to go to "specials." During that 5 minute teaching period I have been letting them pick out one subject area from one of the encyclopedias and then we review how to read nonfiction while looking over that subject briefly.I am amazed to see the sparks that start flying and how interested in all of the subjects the students have been.The pictures are wonderful and help students to connect with the information they are reading.I will buy more sets for my classroom because they are always in use!!!!

Absaloutly Amazing
I love this book almost as much as the original E.Encyclopedia.

Worst World History Book Ever -- Huge Gaps in History
I bought this book and hoped it had a comprehensive view of world history.Sadly, it does not.First, I looked up World War II to find the name of the Japanese leader who ordered the kamikaze pilots to bomb Pearl Harbor.Only six pages are devoted to World War II and, since half of each page is graced with a huge photo, really only three pages of actual text (which is a huge font as well).Absolutely no mention of Japan's part in World War II and only a picture of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima without any further explanation.
Excellent History book for young kids
This is an excellent History book for kids who like to read and see pictures. The pictures are not only beautiful, they help kids to transport themselves to the times of History they are reading about.The internet links information is very useful, but if your child is too young to surf the internet, the book itself has enough historical information for young children.
Superb, An excellent, Concice History
This is an excellent introduction to history. This is a must for homeschoolers, particularly those of a young age.

Great Resource for Any Age
I bought this to assist with "homeschooling" my preschooler and it has a great range of info and links for all ages - she will likely be able to use it for many years to come!A great buy at this price!

If you know google, you don't need this book
This is a book for parents and children who are completely in the dark about google.It's the largest, most used search engine out there.Quite frankly, who doesn't know about Google at this point in time.Also, the links mentioned in this book that will be "maintained" and "monitored" and etc.--shouldn't parents be monitoring the sites that their children visit? Does anyone know the involvement and the amount of manpower this will take for a company to monitor ALL of these links?Next to impossible..yet only time will tell. What happened to good-old-fashioned Make Way for Ducklings?What about time away from "the web".DK is really for youngsters who can't read.YES, DK books are full of gorgeous pictures, but that's about...this is a hyped up title.You don't need it.Two stars for effort...I guess they are trying to keep up with technology? ... HTML Simplified
When I agreed(okay, well, volunteered)to recreate a section of my employer's website I was, perhaps, a bit too confident in my skills. I am by no means computer illiterate, but I had very little experience with HTML and all else that is needed to design a webpage. Wrong approach. Focuses solely on HTML.
I got this book, and was disappointed. It starts out teaching HTML, the language web pages are used for.HTML programming is the wrong way to start learning web page design.Tools like FrontPage and even MS Word will do ALL the HTML programming for you. After starting to read this book with my 8 year old daughter, we went down to the computer, started Microsoft Word, and made a couple web pages. That was a visual way to program, and it lets the tools handle the details. This book is the wrong way to learn web page development and design.

Not for younger kids
I had purchased for my 9 year old (who is a very advanced reader and gifted student) the Usborne World History book.She LOVED that book, and has read it cover to cover several times. I figured that the Usborne Science Encyclopedia would be similarly interesting to her.Wrong.She has barely touched the Science Encyclopedia.The problem with the Science Encyclopedia is that it is very complex and written at a very high level. I wouldn't recommend it for a child less than 14 or 15 and maybe even beyond that.
Science Encyclopedia a wealth of information at low cost.
My wife and I have enjoyed the Science Encyclopedia very much.The interweaving of the internet web sites make this a great information resource.

A Must for All Homeschoolers!
We are classically educating our children at home, and I was a little nervous about teaching chemistry to a 3rd grader.But this book allows you to study your topic in as much depth as you wish.In addition to the helpful websites (some are more helpful than others, admittedly), there are mini experiments and "see for yourself" projects that are fun, safe and educational.Theories are presented as theories, not facts.However, creation or "intelligent design" are not presented at all, which makes this encyclopedia incomplete.Other Christian homeschoolers may have a problem with the "800 million years ago..." jargon, but that's why we homeschool- to weed out the nonsense in our children's education.HOMESCHOOLERS: READ MY OTHER REVIEWS! ... Fantastic dinosaur world for all kids
This book i found on google during a search for dinosaur pictures for my 6 year old son. I liked it from the very first moment, the pictures are gorgeous and the online support is super cool. The book was a >Tooth fairy gift for the first toot of my son. i couldnot find a better gift. i recommend it to anybody.

Excellent Resource for Web Design Novices!
I should know...I am not computer savvy.I find it amazing that without spending money on expensive software that requires its own expertise, I am able to build my very own webpage!This book takes you step by step to designing a fully functioning personal web site in a very short period of time using the resources you already have on your computer.Spending just an hour or two a day, it took me less than a week to go through all the steps in the book and I now have a fully functioning model from which I can begin building my own web page.I never thought it would be so simple.

***** This is an EXCELLENT guide for beginners! I had my niece come over for a weekend to try it out. Following the step-by-step directions, we created a simple, free web site. Nothing fancy, but plain either. This book begins the creating of a site OFF the internet. In simple words and terms the first few chapters get the "newbie" (for lack of a better term) used to the computer, its files/folders, and inner workings. My niece is around ten-years-old and had only a few problems. I believe that kids around third grade could successfully use this guide. But if you are an adult who is new to computers, this book is perfect for you as well. Read more
