Ideal for Young Children
I bought this book two years ago when my husband and I separated. It was the perfect story to tell my 3 year old son while we transitioned to our new situation. After the first couple readings, it went back on the shelf for almost a year. Now that he's 5, it's regained popularity. I even heard HIM read it to his cousin to explain why he has two homes while his cousin only has one. It seems to be a good way for him to share his situation with his young friends. A true gift! Thank you Claire Masurel!

Must-have for 3-5 year olds... and comes with a lasting title!
Of the several separated-parenting/divorce children's books I got, this one really stood out at least apologetic and most encouraging of stability and normalcy.

Solid, well-done fiction -a teacher's review
'The Cay' is a wonderful little bit of fiction. It has action, is well-written and contains such themes as overcoming racism, sacrifice and resourcefulness. Its quick-moving plot and easy to read style should make it accessible to almost anyone.
Why this book inspired me
This book inspired me by perservering.The young boy on the island never gave up after he became blind.For example, he asked the elderly man to show him how to survive on the island.This helped me in school because even though something might happen to me I shouldn't give up.

An Excellent Book
The Cay, by Theodore Taylor is an extremely exciting book, which could be read by ages 10 and up because it does not have very hard vocabulary, and it is easy to understand. This book takes place on the island of Curacao in the Caribbean, during World War Two. Philip, who is a preteen lives on Curacao is from Virginia, and lives on the island with his mother, and father. German submarines have surrounded the island and were destroying boats that were trying to get off the island. When Philips mother gets scared that the Germans will attack the island, she wants to get back to the United States with Philip. When their boat leaves, the Germans do not torpedo them...yet. Philip ends up on a raft with an old colored deckhand from the boat. He is old, and is named Timothy, who is from the U.S. Virgin Islands. They keep drifting for around a week and then end up on a, small remote island that is in an area called the "Devils Mouth." Timothy has excellent survival skills. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who likes, suspenseful exciting books. I think both boys and girls would like this book. Overall a great book that many people would like. ... Didn't live up to its potential
This is the fictional story of Rose and Ruby, 29-year-old conjoined twins living in southern Ontario. They were born with seperate bodies, but their skulls are fused together and they share some vital blood veins, so they can never be seperated. They were raised by adoptive parents: Aunt Lovey (the nurse who assisted in their birth) and her husband Uncle Stash. The girls have seperate jobs at the public library, and lead relatively normal lives.
Pretty good -- definitely lingers with you...
For some reason, it took me a while to get through this one. Why? I'm not sure. It's not terribly long and the pace doesn't seem all that slow, but I found that I couldn't get through more than a few pages at a time before growing bored. I really shouldn't have been. The idea was really fascinating, the characters endearing. My problem, I believe, was more in how the story was executed. This book definitely could have been a lot better. The author captured the memoir-feel of girls on the brink of death fairly accurately, but it just felt unfinished. Perhaps this is intentional, perhaps not. I was left with a lot of questions in the end. I really wish I knew more about these girls. But, is someone's story EVER really told in its entirety? All the more so when an "autobiography" is really that of two distinct individuals. I was left wanting more, so I suppose the author did do something right: I definitely cared about Rose and Ruby. I was rooting for them up until the end. I guess I just wished for a little more of a polished finished product. Don't let these comments deter you, though. It is still worth reading.

a great book out of a great series - a review by Eli (age 7)
This book is really out of this world.I have been hooked on the magic school bus series.I can't wait to read more books in the series.The inside the human body book is full with very interesting facts and I learned so much from reading it.Arnold doesn't know where the bus is and is trying to find it.He doesn't even know that it is actually inside him.Then Arnold sneezes and finds the bus right next to him.He doesn't understand how he didn't see it before.

packed with information
Ms. Frizzle is taking her class on a memorable field trip through the human body in this entertaining book featuring the beloved eccentric teacher and her curious class.My only complaint is that the pages are so busy with information that it's impossible to sit and really read the whole book, but perhaps it's best to let a child's curiosity guide you through a number of readings rather than trying to get everything in at one sitting.Concepts are expressed clearly and with humor.Justly popular with young students.

I loved this book, just like the others (from 1 to 6). You simply can't stop reading! I already bought numbers 8 and 9 and I can't wait to start reading... I MUST know what will happen in Blair and Serena's future!

Gossip Girl- Nobody does it better
For those of you that are familiar with the Gossip Girl series this is one of the better ones because some of the characters act slightly differently then you would expect them to and this adds a nice change.

More dreadful fun
Once again the Baudelaire Orphans find themselves off to another place to live with another sinister guardian.Mr. Poe drops the orphans off at a boarding school where all of the buildings resemble gravestones.The rules at the school are horrible and the evil Vice Principal forces the students to live in an even more horrible shack with crabs that live on the floor and bite the orphans' toes.However the orphans finally make some friends at the school and for a time it seems as though this school will be better than the other places they have lived.However, Count Olaf, in disguise, gets hired as the school's new gym teacher.Once again, Olaf finds a way to sneak past the people in charge and trap the Baudelaire's in another trap.

Have you ever read the austere academy? Well if you haven't, you should read it-you it's the fifth book of the series of unfortunate events. So you may want to read the first four first.That way you'll understand what is happening. It's mostly about- it is about three, wealthy, intelligent, children whose parent passed away in a fire while the children, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny were atthe beach. When the children find a new home, they discover that their foster parent is trying to steel their fortune. In every book, at least the first five I've read, that the foster parent discise himself in order to steel their fortune. A good read for any young girl
I read this when I was really young and it had a serious impact on my life and the way I treated others. This is a short book meant for kids who are under 12 years old but it's equally powerful even for adults and carries a strong message. I have met a lot of catty, shallow women and girls in my life (no names here) who should read this book. It has a very good lesson about kindness, not judging others and standing up for what is right. It's a sad story with a bittersweet ending. Though I wished the ending had more closure, the message is still strong and I would not change the story. I think kids will learn a great deal from this story, things like: Don't judge others on how they look or what they have. Be kind to people because you never know when they will be gone. Don't say anything to anyone that you may regret later. Above all, never underestemate people's talent or brains. This story is old but timeless!

THE HUNDRED DRESSES: What is it about?
First off, I want to start with saying that this book is not about lying but the hazards of peer pressure and teasing. Wanda Pertoniski was different and because of this she suffered the indignities of being teased and ostracized from any real normal life. She was an easy target for the more popular and socially acceptable girls of her school. Wanda was quite and reserved, never really stood up for herself. One day she announced to all that heard that she had a hundred of the most beautiful dresses in her closet at home. The reality of it was that while she did have dresses in her closet they were not in actuality real. They were pictures that she had created. To take this as a lie is not properly correct.

YOU REALLY CANNOT GO WRONG WITH THIS ONE
What a wonderful, sensitive and timely book.School is hard for kids.It is harder for some than others, but all children go through some sort of ordeal similar to our little heroine mouse.If not, then they are the kids that are dishing out the grief and need the lesson this book teaches even more than the child that is taking all the teasing.Eather way, this is a good work, excellent to read to the class as a whole or excellent to read with your child one on one.The illustrations are great and very much go with the text.This is one of my favorites, but more importantly, it seems to be the favorite of many of the children at the school.Recommend this one highly.

A great way to start a new school year
This story is sweet and a great way to start off a new school year talking about names of our new friends and classmates.Story lends itself to discussions about feelings, friendships, as well as activities in math and language.

Ogilvy still rules
David Ogilvy was, in the words of Ed Ney (Young & Rubicam) "... the best of the best." His magnum opus "Ogilvy on advertising" remains one of the best sources of inspiration, information, and just plain smarts of the advertising industry. Demographics, psychographics, and other consumer profiles may change, but Ogilvy's book is one of the best treatises on effective advertising. Anyone in the ad business who does not have a copy of this book is not serious about his/her craft. Highly reccommended.

Good book about real life
This book is a very good book that puts you inside of 11 year old Parvana's shoes. It depicts the horrors of life under the taliban rule well. While it is grusome, the auther shows the horrors without too much detail, so it is safe for younger readers, though i wound not recemend it to anyone younger than 10. You see life in this war torn land from the eyes of a girl worring about her father in jail, while forced to hide her true identity so her family can survive.
Best educational book ever
this book was my chosen summer reading book.I thought that it was going to be realy bad but it wasn't it ended up realy good.I read it in three days it was sogood.The book is about Parvana the 2nd eldest in a family of 6.Her Parents are educated very wellHer mother is an author and her father taught history in a high school.But that was before the Taliban took over Afghanistan and now women are not allowed to go out of their house,So parvana's Father writes and reads letters for the family to make moeny however because of her fathers bad leg she has to go walk with him.until he gets arested.then Parvana has to dress up like a boy and cntinue her father's work until he gets out of prison.Then she meets an old school mate who is a girl and is doing the same thing she is.So they decide to go into buesiness together.The her sister got a letter saying that an old neighbor would like to marryher but the family would have to travel.Parvana has to stay back with a friend.

These are great poems all about readers and reading.Great for all ages!

Whimsical little poems with exquisite illustrations
I love books, and I also work in a library, so I really had no choice but to see what this book was about when I came across its intriguing title.There is no murder or mayhem in these pages, of course, because Please Bury Me in the Library is very much a children's book - one aimed mostly at fairly young children.This is the kind of a book a parent would read to a young child as the future reader delights in the excellent artwork.Each picture accompanies a poem by J. Patrick Lewis, who throws in an interesting mix of poetic styles: haiku, free verse, rhyming verse, even an acrostic salute to libraries.I wasn't all that impressed by some of the poems, but this is largely due to the fact that they are aimed primarily at fairly young children (and I haven't been fairly young in a good many years now) - these are simple little verses that come across much better when read aloud.I'm sure many children would really enjoy them.It's really the artwork that makes this book special, though.Kyle M. Stone's artwork is both whimsical and a little dark - not scary, of course, but dark in a "Tim Burton was here" sort of way.As an adult, I feel sure that looking at these illustrations is about as close as I can ever come to once again seeing the world through a child's eyes - and that, in my opinion, makes this book a visual treat for young and old alike. ... Great Book That Little Girls Love
I have had this book for over a year and my girls just love it.We read it every single night and they have it memorized.I have never had a problem potty training and this book makes it fun.I have 5 children and each one will potty train when ready.I will continue to read this book even to the baby.

Enthusiastic about it!
This was the best book I found to help get my daughter interested in the potty. She loved the rhyming patterns, and I loved that the book showed "Hannah" making mistakes but not giving up.It was very positive and helpful in portraying a little girl wanting to get out of diapers without criticizing. I loved this book!

Very cute story
I bought the boy version of this book for my son when he was potty training.I read it so many times that I had to buy the girl version for my daughter.It's a cute story and I like the rhythm.I'm just now introducing my daughter to the idea of potty training.She's still a little young to fully understand it, but she does like reading this book.

Fantastic reading!
This is the best book for a child in their pre - 3rd grade years. It's well written to keep the child entertained and a parent from getting bored. It's one that I would read over and over again and so would my kids. The illustrations are great and the author is a fantastic story teller. The book teaches a good lesson about your enemies!

Enemy Pie
This book is called Enemy Pie.It was by Derek Munson and illustrated by Tara Callahan King.Its about a boy who tries to get rid of his enemy by making Enemy Pie but instead he got rid of his enemy by making friends and this is my favorite page (look at the page with the Dad and the boys eating pie).
My sister and I love this book- Kindergarten and 4th grader

The MOST INVALUABLE book for a child facing an IMPENDING death
This book is an absolute must have for anyone with a child who is about to face the loss of someone special and close -- due to an illness, accident, or age, -- Children have such difficulty expressing their emotions because in times of such sorrow and anxiety, they are experiencing things they have NEVER felt before. They are confused, distraught, fearful, and so terribly hurt - and when all the adults around them are suffering too -- it makes it all the harder to discuss such delicate and sensitive things -- we want to be strong for them, we don't want our angst to invoke their own.....
For you or your child to Write /draw out your feelings
I purchased this book for my daughter and now also plan to purchase it for my niece and nephew. After reading the other reviews I knew I needed to get this book and set it aside for when one or both of her grandparents pass away.

Helping parents raise an awkward but important issue with their young children
In my experience, young children are profoundly intuitive. That is to say, they `know' some things by means other than personal experience or having been instructed or shown.
