4-0 out of 5 stars A Classic
A classic story, but one that needs some explaining. After all, bullfights aren't really PC these days.If you try not to get too deep, it's still a nice story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Classic Story
I picked this book up at the bookstore about three years ago for my oldest son who at the time was 4 yrs old. He loved this book then and still does now. Also his younger brother who is 3 enjoys this story. I read this to them a few times a week and don't get tired of the story myself either. They think some of the pictures are hilarious.Would highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic Story about a Bull named Ferdinand
This is about Ferdinand who was a bull but didn't act very much like a mean, rough bull. The illustrations are in black and white, but they are quite funny (especially the men in the three funny hats). This is a classic story that I read growing up in the early sixties. It is still a good story despite it's age.Parents should read the classics in children's literature to their children.A must read ages 4-8. ... (What happened to the earlier review that I was writing!)
5-0 out of 5 stars Realizing their impact
I purchased several copies of this book, a copy for my children and one for each of their classrooms as a gift. This book is easily read by children and to children. It clearly explains the impact of their actions on others and to THEMSELVES and then gives them the choice of what they want to occur in their world.A very basic introduction to the "ripple effect" on world peace.I would also recommend similar books by this same author.
5-0 out of 5 stars How To Behave and Why
Excellent, creative lessons on etiquette and acting appropriately.I got it for my four year old niece and she LOVES it. It doesn't sound preachy or stuffy, and the drawings are adorable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars great book but you will have to scale down for toddlers
munro leaf's books in this series are excellent but before i bought it i checked it out at the library and i am glad i did.the concept is great but even for my 3 yr old daughter who will sit still for a book with great patience, she was losing interest. So i am just reviewing to share with others that you may have to shorten it as you read it to toddlers but it is a terrific series and would be perfect for children age 4 and up.

5-0 out of 5 stars Manners Can Be Fun
I remember this book from my own childhood, which is why I selected it for my grand-daughter.I enjoyed Mr. Munro Leaf's positive and humorous style in putting forth his gentle philosophy of courtesy to others.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, simple book for children of all ages
I am 65 years old and this was one of my first books. The revisions along the way have not changed the drawings that much.It is simple, but well illustrated, and gives a basic idea of good manners.I recommend it for every child - it makes them think about behavior. The way the author demonstrates "me first" and "whinney" have stuck with me all these years. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars How to Speak Politely and Why
An important book for kids as they are learning language.I got it for my four year old niece and she now makes it a habit of saying "yes" instead of "yeah."It seems insignificant, but is really charming and nice to hear.

5-0 out of 5 stars Parent and child time
This book is well written, really for any age, I bought it for my grandchildren, but I learned so much that I now have it at my home also. What a wonderful way to open dialogue with your child regarding polite words, there really is a need for this book and the author's other 2 books on manners and behavior.I truly have enjoyed this collection and will treasure them. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wee Gillis Pipes On
When I was a six-year-old, "Wee Gillis" was my second favorite book.("The Story of Ferdinand" by the same Munro Leaf, author, and Robert Lawson, illustrator, was my first.) It is a joy to find that "Wee Gillis" is available in this new edition and that, at 74, I still enjoy it.I am giving it to my great-nephew.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the BEST Children's books ever!!!
This book was originally published by Munro Leaf in 1937 and has been out of print for a VERY LONG time. This book has a great appeal to children because it is about animals and celebrates their many different traits. It also teaches the moral that everyone is unique and special in his or her own way, and that one should be proud of who they are.It is a story of a dachshund, Noodle, who gets one wish from a dog fairy.Noodle decides he wants to be a new size and shape, since being a dachshund he has short legs and a long body. The story is Noodle's quest to find out the best size and shape, and along the way he meets many zoo animals who all have different opinions. In the end Noodle realizes exactly what size and shape is best for him. This story was my mother's favorite book as a child, and my brother and I grew up reading this story with our pet dachshund. This book has been well-loved, and I am excited that it is back in print for children to love and cherish today. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Lovely, Timeless, Pacifism Message and More
This version of the classic book, expressed in a romance language, is completely lyrical and wonderful. The story itself is an enchanting and timeless tale, and is everything a children's book should be. The message is not simply one of peace and commitment to an ideal, but also one of basic karma, existentialist philosophy of choice and responsibility, and the need for all to follow the Golden Rule.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ferdinandus Taurus Excellent for Reviewing the Subjunctive
Ferdinandus Taurus is a great little book just for reading aloud in class. But for a review of the subjunctive primary and secondary sequences, it is truly outstanding. The students appreciate the repetitive vocabulary (like English versions of the Doctor Seuss books), for it means they are able to concentrate on the sequencing of the Latin subjunctive clauses with the indicative main clauses. The pictures, the story, and an increased interest in the subjunctive; it just doesn't get any better than this!
Debera decirse l topetea y no l topeta.

5-0 out of 5 stars It helped me...
I used this book, en espaol, in my first grade class room that I volunteer in, with the bilingual and spanish speaking children. It was the first time that they had books read to them in their native language in school, the first time they had their native tongue recognized as an academic thing, and it helped to build their self esteem in learning to read and write spanish.I also have a friend who owns this book in Norwegan... I highly recommend it, in any language.

3-0 out of 5 stars What edition were you reading?
I highly recommend this book in any language! Ferdinand the Bull is a wonderful story with comical illustrations. The translated version that I have in castellano is well done.I use the story with my ninth grade Spanish classes mostly to demonstrate the use of the Imperfect and Preterite tenses. The book gives some excellent examples and is jampacked with vocabulary and cultural information. There is only one missing accent mark in the version I own and some "leismo"(common in Spain)which is the use of the indirect object pronoun "le" in place of a direct object pronoun. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Safety Can Be Fun
This is a great book that teaches even the smallest child about using safety in different situations. It is hilarious yet helpful in teaching safety.Don't leave toys on the steps or you'll be a nit wit. Many other valuable lessons to learn!

5-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and very informative...
I read this book as a kid and it was probably the funniest book in the library. This book is basically a catalog of different kids who do unsafe things. Each one has a picture and a silly "NIT-WIT" name, likethe Dare Dumb Nit-Wit who is about to jump off the top of the stairs. Munro Leaf does a great job of explaining why you don't want to do thethings these kids do, so the book has lessons to learn while still beingentertaining. The drawings (stick figures) are very simple, but are prettyfunny for children to see.Years later, I still remember the drawings ofthe kids who got into the shower without checking how hot it was, pet astrange dog and got his arm stuck in the dog's mouth, who ran and fell witha lollipop in his mouth...the stick figures are not gory or violent, justkind of silly. ...
