5-0 out of 5 stars great book
This book is one of Wegmans greatest books, with the use of the 20 x 24 camera he is able to achieve some of the most amazing outdoor photography. 2-0 out of 5 stars A Real Let-Down
As a fan of William Wegman's for years now I always enjoy his works on some level. Unfortunately, this is not one of his best attempts. The photographs are often repetitive andsometimes make it difficult to see the dogs. The pictures really don't work when the wolf is dressed asgrandmother. It is hard to understand how Little Red Riding Hood canexclaim how different the wolf's eyes and ears look when they look exactlylike her grandmother's. I also had some problems with the story, particularly the ending. The changes were disconcerting and I found theepilogue, in particular, a real let down. I think Wegman's version ofCinderella worked much better than this story did. ... Read more

This was the bestest book I have ever read!!! I didn't like the big bad ugly mean wolf though. He was evil!!! The ending was good though!

4-0 out of 5 stars Don't take the wrong path by Tamera Wright
I like this version of Little Red Riding Hood because no one gets killed in the end. This book takes place in the woods. Little Red Riding Hood was walking to her grandma's house and decided to take a different path. When she got to grandma's house, there was the wolf wearing grandma's nightgown, which had sheep print on it. The wolf locked grandma away in the closet in hopes of saving her for a late night snack. Luckily the wolf didn't eat or hurt anyone, he accidentally fell out of a window, tumbled down a hill and ran away. Afterwards Little Red unlocked the closet door and let grandmother out. They later had a picnic and lived happily ever after.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Bilingual Book with CD
One of the best purchases I've made and I have made several of bilingual books! and other materials for the learning of French for toddlers and young children. The quality of the book and translation, as well as the CD, are exceptional. The reader on the CD speaks beautiful fluid French. The enunciation is so clear. The illustrations in the book are fun and colourful and attract the young child's attention. Ana Lomba's products are of excellent quality and I would HIGHLY recommend all of them to anyone who wants to expose their children to a foreign language. ... Read more

Toby Forward hails from Liverpool, England and has written another fine book for children - "The Wolf's Story: What Really Happened to Little Red Riding Hood".Wonderfully illustrated by Ishar Cohen of Palestine, the artwork reinforces the perspective of the wolf on the events in the traditional Little Red Riding Hood story, retold here by the wolf thanks to Toby Forward.

Editorial Review

Trina Schart Hyman used to pretend she was Little Red Riding Hood when she was a little girl, wearing a red cape sewn by her mother. Her love for this character permeates her award-winning retelling of the traditional Grimm story, even as Grandma and Little Red get eaten alive by the wolf and then saved by the kindly woodsman (illustrated carefully with a minimum of violence). Little Red learns her lessons--to keep her promises, to stay on the path, to mind her manners, and to avoid talking to big, bad wolves--lessons parents still try to teach their children many generations after the Brothers Grimm first recorded this story.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Still beautiful
This book is as lovely now as it was when I was a child. The story is familiar and not adapted to make it less moral or more appealing to people who do not think that children should read good stories.Children enjoy the fact that though the little girl did not listen to her mother, she is still saved at the end by a kind old man and she lives to remember her lesson.Hyman's illustrations are, of course, gorgeous, and there is plenty to feast your eyes on on every page, whether you are the adult reading or the child listening.Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good retelling of the traditional stories - beware of reviewers who should know better
This is a well illustrated and entertaining version of the old story. My 4 year old son enjoyed it. The adult reviewer who was "shocked" and felt he "should have been warned" needs to get a grip on reality. This is Little Red Riding Hood. The wolf wants to eat Red and Grandma. We all know the story. It is an adult's responsibility to completely read a children's book before handing it over or reading it to children. It isn't up to anyone else to "warn you." Please. Anyway, this is a fine version of one of the most fondly remembered fairy tales, not watered down or sanitized PC junk. I also recommend Paul Galdone's versions of The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Red Riding Hood
I love Trina Schart Hyman's illustration style. I appreciate her line quality and the depth she gets from her paints and the faces of her characters are so expressive. She gets so much detail into each page. It is fun to study each page and to see all that is happening as the story unfolds. I have always been an admirer of her stories. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good choice for Spanish/English children's book
"Isabel and the Hungry Coyote" is basically a retelling of the classic Little Red Riding Hood but set in a southwestern desert or Mexican desert scene. The unique thing about the book is the gradual mixing of Latin American Spanish words into the story.Through a simple reading of the story a child can learn a handful of Spanish words by their context within the story.Once a Spanish word is introduced it is continued throughout the remainder of the book."Isabel and the Hungry Coyote" is a wonderful read and a recommended book for introducing children to the Latin American Spanish language.

5-0 out of 5 stars Familiar tale in a new setting
Sounds familiar, doesn't it? This time, our little girl is in the Chihuahua Desert in the American Southwest & she's carrying tamales & chili sauce, & the hungry villain is the Trickster Coyote.

This pop-up is awesome.I am completly amazed at how wonderful each page is.It's the little details that are so nice.I can't wait to share this with my daughter. She loved her first pop-up, which wasn't made so great and broke apart.I plan on keeping this as a special read.I think this may have turned me into a pop-up book fan!!!
5-0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book
I was absolutely enchanted with this pop up book, it is the best pop up book I've ever seen. The paper engineering is incredible - a "grandma" that is revealed to be a wolf, the wolf sneezing out grandma, grandma and red riding hood chasing the wolf...My 2 year old is enthralled with it - but I am careful to read it together with her... a toddler could easily tear the beautiful pop-us.

3-0 out of 5 stars Little red riding Hood
This book is about a little girl called little red riding hood because she always wear a red jacket. One day she decided to take muffings and lemonade. While she was on her way the wolf stop her to ask her questions like what she has in the bag and where she is gonig. The wolf told her to take her grandmother some flowers and th wolf went to her grandmother's house, the wolf tried to trick her grandmother but she got him and the wolf got scare of her.The wolf became friends with her and work with her on the store and he was able to eat all the muffings he wants.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hello little girl, what's your rush?
At long last the whole "riding" part of the title "Little Red Riding Hood" makes sense! It's difficult to resist picking up a picture book in which the subtitle uses the word "newfangled", so it was with high hopes that I paged through author/illustrator Lisa Campbell Ernst's new retelling of some classic fairy tale fodder.Initially, I was disappointed that she opted to make her wolf a little less blood-thirsty and a little more muffin-hungry.I feared that this was just the latest in authorial attempts to clean up a classic Grimm Brothers' story. But Ernst's tale is better than that.Rather than tidying up the original story, she's reworked it entirely, giving it a distinctly homegrown American taste and feel. Many countries in the world have their own wolves. This one's just an American shyster through and through.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Subtle Impact ofColor and Shape
This book is a gem to be treasured by all elementary teachers for their Art library.Molly Bang demonstrates the use color and shape to inspire creativity and emotions in the minds of young students.I had the privlege of attending her demonstration lecture some years ago at a Children's Literature Conference. There I was delighted to discover the subtle simplicity of her ideas; I even put them into practice with my preschool class. This book will open a new world of enjoyment and enrichment activities--especially in the study of fairy tales--while introducing basic artistic principles. I highly recommend it!

I am a professional graphic designer and I learned many things from this book. I purchased a copy at the Cooper/Hewitt Design Mueseum store in New York City, then left it on the plane, after reading all but the last pages. Now, I have to buy a new copy! It is one of my all-time favorite design books, and I have many. Among other ideas, she has an original way of describing gravity's influence on our perceptions in a picture plane. That alone is worth the money and time for this wonderful book ... Read more

This is the perfect version of the familiar tale if you're looking for a gentler version.I think it's a good way to familiarize the youngest children with the story without scaring them. The little animals under the flaps who try to warn Little Red Riding Hood are amusing also. The illustrations are rich in color and very appropriate.

5-0 out of 5 stars The sad ending for Riding Hood is dramatic and revealing
Fans of artistic photo books for kids will find this an intriguing contemporary treatment of the Red Riding Hood classic. Here a little country girl faces urban and rural threats on her way to grandmother's house, only to find her grandmother has been replaced by an evil wolf. The sad ending for Riding Hood is dramatic and revealing, providing a realistic twist on the fairy tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars Little Red Riding Hood by Perrault, illus. by Sarah Moon
I enjoyed the story as Perrault wrote it, not as yet another alternate version with yet another happy ending.Red Riding Hood, also available in French as Le Petit Rouge, contains marvelous photos by Sarah Moon which lend an eerie, appropriately menacing mood to an already dark tale.It should be said, however, that this book is unsettling and is undoubtedly not one to share with your child as a bedtime story. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Faithful to the original / Fiel al original
This bilingual version of "Little Red Riding Hood" uses colorful illustrations and simple -- though not simplistic -- language to tell the familiar story much as it was captured by the Brothers Grimm. For the unfamiliar, this detail means that this version does not spare the grandmother or Little RRH from being eaten, nor the wolf from a gruesome end when they are rescued! This bilingual version of "Little Red Riding Hood" uses colorful illustrations and simple -- though not simplistic -- language to tell thefamiliar story much as it was captured by the Brothers Grimm. For theunfamiliar, this detail means that this version does not spare thegrandmother or Little RRH from being eaten, nor the wolf from a gruesomeend when they are rescued!
