Good book with simple sentences
Doctor Dolittle was a human doctor once. But he liked animals very much. Then when his pets grew many, people didn't like them and didn't visit him. But one of his pets taught him animal languages when he had almost no money. Then he decided he became an animal doctor.

The book I am going to do my report on is Doctor Dolittle.It is a book about an animal doctor.He has many pets but loves to get more.One day he went to Africa to heal all the sick monkeys.When he was coming home, he met the Pirates of Barbary.That's all!It was a good book and I recommend you read it.

READ IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I honestly think this book was sooooooooooo interesting and that anyone who doesn't like it is insane!!!!!!I'm a really good reader but this book was a little hard for me. SO, READ IT NOW!!!!!!!

Beautifully illustrated and revised
I presume anyone reading the reviews already is familiar with the storyline of Dr. Dolittle. I highly recommend this version with only a slight reservation (see below) because its illustration and editing would make an excellent introduction to children as well as a gift possibility and a lifelong keepsake.
Awesome book!
I had this book as a child and since I'm an avid reader, mine is still in excellent condition and is now being read to my child.He absolutely loves this book.It's so well illustrated and very well written.The imagination that it sparks is unbelievable and quite fun.He loves all the animals and watching Dr. Dolittle go to Africa in the boat.It jus sparks so much conversation and imagination.Don't hesitate on this book - it's just wonderful.

THE STORY OF DOCTOR DOOLITTLE
I bought this for my son for his eighth birthday, he loves it so much that he is reading it to himself. This is the first book that he has ever carried around with him, actually reading while he is walking around. This was the first chapter book that my older son read. We had barrowed a paperback edition from a friend. I am so glad that I bought this edition, it's a great story, and the illustrations are wonderful! We LOVE IT
What fun. Poems for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I will cherish this little gem of a book forever. My grandkids love it and ask me to read them a poem every day when I babysit.The drawings are darling.There's something for every member of the family. No wonder these are Doctor Dolittle's favorite poems.It's so nice to be able to pick up a quality hard cover book that the kids can enjoy over and over again.

the real Dr Dolittle
Forget about the Eddie Murphy movies - they don't convey the charm and the emotion of the books. This is a particularly good childrens' book, as it has Dr Dolittle becoming involved (against his better judgement) with a circus. The circus intends to exhibit the exoctic pushmi-pullyu, along with other unusual animals. The story of how Dr Dolittle becomes entangled in this mess and manages to rescue a seal is a classic.
Dolittle is required reading!
In the _Dr. Dolittle_ books, Lofting has created a series with no weak links, and this entry, in which circumstances force Dr. Dolittle to take over the management of a traveling circus,is as entertaining as could be.
Circus One of Dolittle's Best
The Story of Doctor Dolittle (which began this series) is unfortunately somewhat racist, rather baldly written, but engaging and inventive.The Circus of Doctor Dolittle, a later book in the series, is a vast improvement, keeping all the charm of the original but omitting the flaws.Read more

Fantabulous!Super duper!
Oh the JOY of reading Doctor Dolittle books!This is a great one.How can it be no publisher(s) have reprinted all the books including the zoo, the moon, the garden, the post office, puddleby adventures etc.??Are they mad?These books are timeless stories that appeal to animal lovers everywhere!

Possibly the best Dolittle Book
Ahh, the feelings of nostalgia I get when I think of Dr. Dolittle, the man who could talk to the animals.In the fifth grade all I did was read Dr. Dolittle books.My school library only had the Story of Dr. Dolittle, Dr.Dolittle's Voyages, Dr. Dolittle's Post Office, and Doctor Dolittle'sCircus, and I always had one of them checked out.Consequently, I got sickof them.Then came summer vacation, and my downtown public library had Dr.Dolittle's Caravan.Well, I read it and really got into it.The storyties in with both the aforementioned Dr. Dolittle's Circus as well as Dr.Dolittle and the Green Canary (to the point that read Green Canary borderson redundancy, but I digress).Herein Dr. Dolittle discovers the canarywith her sweet songs and bittersweet life's story.My favorite part occurswhere the good doctor meets Paganini, the infamous violinist.I liked the"flirting with historical fiction" Lofting tosses our direction. Chronologically, this story MUST take place before 1839, the year the Dr.meets Tommy Stubbins; Paganini died in 1837, I believe, so the timeline forthis novel would be the mid-1830s (assuming Dr. Dolittle was taught thelanguage of animals around 1830).I hope this book goes back in printsoon. ... good, although kind of a potpourri
this isn't the best doctor dolittle book, but it's a fun read. the book takes place in africa and concentrates on birds. there are several new characters including speedy the swallow and quip, and dab-dab has a slightly bigger role than usual (and cheapside also to some extent). this book features the first appearance of mud-face the turtle and the secret lake, and there's a nice section where each of the main characters tells a story. the beginning is a little slow and some of the scenes seem a bit familiar, but in general it's good fun.

Wonderful story
Unlike the other Dolittle books, which center around the doctor himself, this book is the story of Pippinella, a green canary, as told to the doctor by Pip herself.It is an excellent story, full of all the grand elements of good story-telling.However, I personally enjoy the books which focus on the doctor's adventures, my favorite being "Voyages of Doctor Dolittle."

ahhhh....boring!!!
This book was so stupid . Why couldn't the bird have been purple.I mean he thinks the bird is his friend but the bird like totally hates him.When was the last time this guy took a shower.He smells really bad.

Excellent and captivating writing.Never a dull moment.
I read this book with my ten and six year old sons.We wanted to read more of Doctor Dolittle's adventures after reading "The Story of Doctor Dolittle", and "The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle".Wecan't get enough of these books.
